'Novitsjok vergiftiging Skripals': officiële Britse documenten tonen aan dat de bloedstalen zijn gemanipuleerd

Beetje kort door de bocht de kop op dit bericht, maar niet te kort. De vergiftiging van de Skripals met novitsjok nadert na meer dan 3 jaar de ontknoping, al zullen er meer dan genoeg mensen zijn die dit verhaal van meet af aan niet geloofd hebben, daar ze weten dat elke blootstelling van dit gif zonder meer dodelijk is en volkomen terecht: een aanval met novitsjok is niet te overleven, in géén ziekenhuis op onze planeet.......Novitsjok is zelfs het dodelijkste bestaande chemische wapen.....

Naar nu blijkt is er gerommeld met de stalen bloed die bij de Skripals zijn afgenomen en dat volkomen illegaal daar het protocol dat in dit soort zaken gevolgd moet worden op meerder manieren werd overtreden..... Naar nu blijkt hebben niet alleen Oekraïne en Groot-Brittannië nog voorraden novitsjok maar ook de VS en Duitsland..... Alle tijdsprotocollen zijn overtreden in het onderzoek naar de bloedstalen, dit gecombineerd met de wetenschap dat zoals gezegd geen mens een aanraking met novitsjok zonder beschermende kleding kan overleven, geeft aan dat men de bloedstalen dusdanig heeft gemanipuleerd dat het lijkt alsof de Skripals met een novitsjok aanslag te maken hadden...... Niet alleen dat, maar al kort na de 'aanslag' werd bekend gemaakt dat men in Rusland weliswaar de formule heeft om novitsjok te maken, maar dat zelf nooit heeft gemaakt, daar men concludeerde dat deze chemische stof niet is te gebruiken tegen vijanden...... (het zou zich als bijvoorbeeld mosterdgas tegen de eigen militairen dan wel bevolking kunnen keren)

Uiteraard zet dit nogmaals grote vraagtekens bij de novitsjok aanval op de fascistische misdadiger Navalny, waar sommige westerse media durfden te stellen dat Navalny 2 keer met novitsjok is aangevallen..... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Na de eerste keer zou hij al morsdood zijn geweest, hoe kan je hem dan nog een keer vergiftigen met novitsjok??!!!

Het volgende artikel geschreven door Dilyana Gaytandzhieva werd gepubliceerd op Defend Democracy Press. De documenten zijn verkregen middels de Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), wat men hier een 'WOB procedure' noemt (Wet openbaarheid van bestuur), althans een procedure die is te vergelijken met deze in Nederland gebruikte procedure om zaken aan het licht te brengen....... 

De novitsjok die na manipulatie werd aangetroffen in de bloedstalen van de Skripals werd geproduceerd in de VS, aldus Dennis Rohrbaugh van de US Army Chemical and Biological Defense Command’s Edgewood Research Development and Engineering Center......

Gaytandzhieva stelt in de kop van haar artikel dat het Britse ministerie van defensie de bloedstalen van de Skripals zou hebben kunnen manipuleren, echter gezien deze documenten en eerdere onderzoeken van echte journalisten en uitlatingen van specialisten op het gebied van chemische wapens, kan je niet anders concluderen dan dat manipulatie op zeker heeft plaatsgevonden!!! 

Lees het artikel van Gaytandzhievaen geeft het door, daar de reguliere media deze info niet zullen brengen, daar kan je donder op zeggen, immers dat zou ten overvloede nog eens aantonen dat ze hun werk niet hebben gedaan, maar zich hebben laten oplichten door diverse instanties, waaronder de Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) en het Britse ministerie van defensie, terwijl die meermaals zijn betrapt op liegen en manipulatie van berichtgeving....... (o.a. door klokkenluiders van de OPCW, wat betreft de leugens van het Britse ministerie van defensie: daarmee kan je een fiks archief vullen....). Je kan dan ook concluderen dat de aanslag op de Skripals en de vermeende vergiftiging van Nalavlny niets anders zijn dan 'false flag operaties'*, waarmee Rusland werd en wordt gedemoniseerd, een heel smerige vorm van propaganda..... (waarop de smerige nazi Goebbels jaloers zou zijn geweest):

UK Defense ministry document reveals Skripals blood samples could have been manipulated

New evidence has emerged of gross violations during the UK investigation into the alleged poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury on 4^th March 2018. The new revelations put into question the main evidence that the Skripals were poisoned with the nerve agent Novichok.

The blood samples taken from the Skripals could have been tampered with so that they test positive for Novichok, newly disclosed information obtained from the UK Ministry of Defense reveals. Furthermore, documents show that Russia was not the only country in the world that could be linked to the nerve agent Novichok.

The US had covered up its own Novichok program masked as research on fourth generation nerve agents (FGAs) and muzzled the Organisation for the prohibition of chemical weapons (OPCW) a decade before the Skripals attack.

Breach of chain of custody

Newly disclosed information obtained from the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) questions the integrity of the main evidence that the Skripals were poisoned with Novichok, namely their blood samples. The ministry is in charge of the British military laboratory DSTL Porton Down which analyzed the Skripals blood samples and reportedly identified Novichok.

“Our searches have failed to locate any information that provides the exact time that the samples were collected”, the ministry states. The information held by MOD therefore indicates that the samples were collected at some point between 16:15 on 4 March 2018 and 18:45 on 5 March 2018 (the approximate time according to MOD when the samples arrived at DSTL Porton Down). Even the time of arrival at Porton Down is indicated as “approximate”.

The lack of this information is gross violation and breach of the chain of custody. The UK NHS protocol requires that a request form accompany all specimens sent to the laboratory and clearly state the exact (not approximate) date and time of collection. This newly disclosed information questions the whole Skripals Novichok poisoning story. The fact that the chain of custody of these blood samples was broken directly suggests that they could have been manipulated and tampered with.

 

 

According to the UK Defense Ministry document, there is no information as to when exactly (date and time) the blood samples were collected. Hence, these samples are inadmissible evidence in court as without a proper chain of custody the samples could have been manipulated and contaminated with Novichok.

A British toxicologist with extensive knowledge in the field of organophosphate pesticide analysis who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons has reviewed the MOD document: “It is inconceivable that with such a visibility case, and the obvious significance of any and all biological samples, normal and expected sample logging and documentation did not take place. The person drawing the sample, in any clinical or forensic setting knows that the date and time must be recorded, and the donor positively identified. In a criminal case, evidence gleaned from these samples would be thrown out as inadmissible. Custody seals can be broken and re-applied. In a normal blood draw, the donor would sign the seal which is placed over the vials. In this case, with the donors apparently unconscious, then the phlebotomist would do the signing, and be able to later verify his/her signature on the seal. As we don’t know when, or possibly where the samples were taken, it would be difficult to prove that the seals were in fact the original seals. This lack of protocol is either very sloppy or clandestine.”

What is Chain of Custody and why is it important

The chain of custody is the most critical process of evidence documentation. Chain of Custody (CoC), in legal contexts, refers to the system of controls governing the collection, processing and storage of samples. These controls reduce the potential for samples to be accidentally or maliciously tampered with.

A template of Chain of Custody (CoC) form includes detailed information about each person handling the sample(s) from the time of collection to its receipt by the analyst. This essential information is missing in the Skripals case. Even the time of arrival at Porton Down is “approximate” not exact, according to the UK MoD document.

The chain of custody can be broken if:

1. a custody form is labeled incorrectly or is missing information such as exact date and time of collection, transfer and receipt
2. if a transfer of evidence takes an unreasonable amount of time, or
3. if there is reason to believe the evidence was tampered with

Although even one of the above conditions is enough for the chain of custody to be broken, in the Skripals case all three are present:

1. According to MoD, there is no information as to when the samples were collected and the time when they arrived at Porton Down is approximate (not exact)

2. The blood samples arrived at Porton Down 25 hours after the Skripals were admitted to hospital, according to MoD. For reference, the distance between the Salisbury district hospital and Porton Down is only 13 km or an 18-minute drive which means that the transfer of evidence took an unreasonable amount of time.

3.There are four reasons to believe the samples were tampered with since:

3.1. None of the people who were in direct contact with the Skripas tested positive for Novichok. According to the UK government, the nerve agent had been sprayed on the door handle of the Skripals house.  Yulia and her father Sergei touched the door handle and few hours later the two collapsed simultaneously on a bench in Salisbury. Meanwhile, few minutes after they had reportedly been poisoned by touching the door handle, the Skripals handed bread to three children to feed ducks. One of the children even ate the bread. This was documented by CCTV footage which the police showed to their parents. Despite the direct contact, no one of the children developed any symptoms of poisoning and their blood tests showed no traces of Novichok.

3.2. We have been told that Novichok is the deadliest nerve agent ever developed. However, none of the alleged “Kremlin targets” (the Skripals and Alexei Navalny) died and all made full recovery without any damage to their health or permanent harm. How is it possible that the deadliest nerve agent in the world has caused no harm to any of the targeted victims and they all fully recovered?

3.3. Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned with the drug Fentanyl, not the Novichok nerve agent, the initial report on the incident reveals. After I published this report on my Twitter account the information was immediately redacted and the drug Fentanyl was deleted from the original version.

3.4 Porton Down, which received and analyzed the blood samples, had already had Novichok prior to the alleged Skripals poisoning, according to British prime minister Boris Johnson. Although the UK Government publicly lied that only Russia could have been the source of the Novichok nerve agent, as it turns out, Porton Down could have also been the source of the Novichok agent identified coincidentally exactly by Porton Down in the Skripals blood samples.

The Navalny case

The chain of custody can be broken if a transfer of evidence takes an unreasonable amount of time. Such is the case with another alleged nerve agent victim – Alexey Navalny. His biological samples were collected in a German hospital and were delayed by 5 days before being transferred to OPCW designated laboratories, an OPCW document reveals.

Alexey Navalny fell sick during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow on 20^th August 2020 and was taken to a hospital in Omsk following an emergency landing. The Russian hospital identified no poison in his blood and attributed his condition to metabolic disorder. At the request of Navalny’s wife Yulia, Russia allowed the patient to be transported for medical treatment in Germany two days later. Germany announced that Russia had poisoned Navalny with Novichock and requested assistance from OPCW.  The following timeline of events as described by OPCW clearly shows that the biomedical samples taken from Navalny were inexplicably delayed by 5 days (working days according to the calendar) before being transferred to OPCW designated laboratories:

According to the OPCW report, biomedical samples were taken from Navalny on 6^th September. On 11^th of September OPCW received a request from Germany (5 working days after the samples were collected) and sent them to OPCW designated labs for analyses. According to recently declassified correspondence between Germany and OPCW about the Navalny alleged poisoning, “the samples’ transmission to OPCW reference laboratories should only take place after the consent by Germany”. Although the samples had already been collected, Germany delayed its permission by 5 days (working days according to the calendar.) There is no explanation as to why Germany delayed its permission for so many days.

 

 

Like the UK, Germany also possessed Novichok prior to the Navalny alleged poisoning. The sample was obtained in the 1990s, according to German media. In a joint report, German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the weekly Die Zeit and broadcasters NDR and WDR said Germany’s BND spy agency had secured the sample of the Novichok nerve agent from a Russian scientist. The German media report said the BND had informed the U.S. and British intelligence agencies about the case following the analysis, and small amounts of the poison were later produced in several NATO member states. One of these NATO member states was the US.

Documents reveal how US covered up its own Novichok program as research on FGAs

The US Army produced Novichok A-234 (the same nerve agent identified in the Skripals blood samples) in 1998 and in 2002 launched a special Novichok research program masked as research on Fourth generation agents (FGAs), documents reveal.

Dennis Rohrbaugh from the US Army Chemical and Biological Defense Command’s Edgewood Research Development and Engineering Center added the mass spectrometry profile of the Novichok nerve agent A-234 to the 1998-2001 version (NIST 98) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Mass Spectral Library. The Biochemical facility at Edgewood was making, synthesizing and analysing A-234 for some 20 years before the Skripal attack in Salisbury.

Het verzwijgen van belangrijk nieuws door de massamedia: het einde van de journalistiek

Julian Assange, gisteren 50 jaar geworden*, zit vast in isolatiefolter en dat voor het openbaren van oorlogsmisdaden begaan door de VS, die hem daarvoor uitgeleverd wil hebben door Groot-Brittannië, het land dat hem volkomen onterecht vasthoudt..... Afgelopen week werd bekend gemaakt dat de kroongetuige van de VS, Sigirdur Thordarson, zijn getuigenissen heeft verzonnen** en dat hem voor die getuigenissen immuniteit werd beloofd wat betreft door hem gepleegde fraude en misbruik van kinderen..... Je zou denken dat dit wereldnieuws volop moet zijn gepubliceerd in de westerse reguliere (massa-) media, en zeker die in de VS, maar nee, de media deden er het zwijgen toe......

Zoals ik afgelopen week al heb gemeld, is dit feit niet zo vreemd als je nagaat dat diezelfde media het gore lef hadden om de gelauwerde onderzoeksjournalist Julian Assange de grond in te schrijven, men nam zonder enig onderzoek het oordeel van de Obama administratie (met de huidige president Biden als vicepresident) en haar geheime diensten over: Julian zou mensen in gevaar hebben gebracht met het openbaren van staatsgeheimen, waardoor hij niet alleen moet worden gezien als een verrader, maar ook als moordenaar (immers als Julian inderdaad mensen met naam en toenaam zou hebben laten staan in de geopenbaarde officiële VS documenten, zou de kans groot zijn dat deze of gevangen zouden worden genomen en in het ergste geval zelfs vermoord)..... Echter deze claim als zou hij iemand in gevaar hebben gebracht, is zoals veel in deze zaak met geen bewijs te staven....... Vergeet daarbij niet dat je voor verraad in de VS levenslange gevangenisstraf of zelfs de doodstraf kan krijgen......

Maar nee, de reguliere media onderzochten niets en namen zoals gezegd de overheidsleugens over, sterker nog: die media begonnen Julian te demoniseren en af te doen als een charlatan, een mislukte clown die onterecht dacht de VS aan te kunnen klagen voor oorlogsmisdaden..... Het ging zelfs zover dat de Nederlandse (nep) journalist Jan Kuitenbrouwer durfde te stellen dat WikiLeaks, de site die Julian opzette om de de gelekte documenten te kunnen publiceren, de video had gemanipuleerd waarin te zien is hoe een VS helikopterbemanning in Irak 11 mensen zonder enige reden heeft vermoord, waaronder 2 journalisten van Reuters*** (NB collega's van Kuitenbrouwer, althans als deze schertsfiguur een echte journalist was geweest)...... Deze zaak kreeg de naam 'Collateral Murder' ('zijdelingse moord'), overigens een tweede aanval op dezelfde plek zou het aantal vermoorde slachtoffers op een totaal van 18 brengen, e.e.a vond plaats op 12 juli 2007........ 

Kuitenbrouwer en andere 'journalisten' hebben keihard gelogen om Julian Assange, een gelauwerde onderzoeksjournalist  ongeloofwaardig te maken, terwijl hij juist heeft gedaan wat elke zichzelf respecterende journalist zou hebben gedaan: zware oorlogsmisdaden openbaren..... Het voorgaande, oorlogsmisdaden geheimhouden door de VS, werd gedaan door een land dat zich als democratie verkoopt, terwijl openheid en transparantie een paar van de belangrijkste kenmerken zijn van een democratie...... (wat dat betreft is er ook genoeg aan te merken op Nederland, met haar 'commissie stiekem' en geheime militaire operaties waarin men zelfs mensen vermoordt......) 

Caitlin Johnstone heeft een artikel geschreven over dit verzwijgen van belangrijk nieuws door de reguliere media, waarvan het beschreven achterhouden van bijzonder belangrijk nieuws in de zaak tegen Julian Assange, het laatste voorbeeld is, echter wat bepaald niet wil zeggen dat dit de eerste keer is dat dit gebeurd. Zo noemt Caitlin ook de zaak van de OPCW, de Organisatie voor het Verbod op Chemische Wapens, waarvan de top het onderzoek heeft gemanipuleerd naar de  gifgasaanval op Douma, zodat de VS haar leugens over de Syrische president Assad als massamoordenaar in de lucht kon houden..... (terwijl deze zoals met alle andere gifgasaanvallen niets te maken had, een zaak die destijds deels door president Obama werd toegegeven.....) De reguliere media hebben het manipuleren door de OPCW top van de chlorine aanval op Douma verzwegen, het bewijs over deze manipulatie werd overigens in 2019 geopenbaard...... Een journalist van News Week nam ontslag en publiceerde mails die hij van de leiding had gekregen met het bevel niet over deze zaak te publiceren, daar geen ander mediaorgaan dit deed.......

Overigens combineert Caitlin het verzwijgen van de valse getuigenis door Thordarson niet met de houding van de reguliere media t.a.v. Julian Assange ('een charlatan, verrader en leugenaar'), terwijl dit uiteraard een belangrijk punt is, immers door het verzwijgen van deze zaak kunnen deze media hun eerdere leugens over Assange in de lucht houden.  

De gelekte e-mails zaak van Hillary Clinton in 2016 zou volgens Caitlin voldoende media aandacht hebben gekregen, echter daarbij moet je wel in het oog houden dat diezelfde media daarna de enorme leugen dat Rusland achter deze lekken zou zitten uit en te na brachten, zonder dat daar enig bewijs voor was en 'het bewijs' dat men wel had, zoals het 'Steele dossier', bleek grote onzin te zijn, echter daarvoor hadden de reguliere media amper of geen aandacht...... Kortom ondanks dat men Steele opvoerde als een belangrijke 'getuige', werd het door de mand vallen van deze schertsfiguur zoveel mogelijk uit de media gehouden, terwijl de alternatieve media deze zaak juist opvoerden als uitermate belangrijk daar met die zaak werd aangetoond dat men de aandacht van Clinton wilde afleiden en men Rusland wat later tegelijkertijd als dader kon aanwijzen voor het verliezen van de verkiezingen door Clinton..... Caitlin stelt in het hieronder opgenomen artikel van haar hand wel dat men later spijt zou hebben gehad om naar Clinton te wijzen en Trump met rust te hebben gelaten en dat men daarna Rusland bleef aanwijzen als manipulator van de verkiezingen in 2016, een leugen die men tot op de dag van vandaag blijft volhouden, ook in ons land...... Journalisten die destijds Clinton wel hebben aangevallen hebben hun excuus daarvoor aangeboden.....

Caitlin noemt nog de zaak Hunter Biden, die nog voor de verkiezingen van 6 november 2020 in de media kwam vanwege emails, nadat dit even in de reguliere media verscheen verzweeg men deze zaak verder, niet in de laatste plaats daar men van Trump afwilde.......

Lees het artikel van Caitlin, waarin zij tot slot opmerkt dat de reguliere media er volkomen lak aan hebben over wat ze wel dan niet verzwijgen..... De alternatieve media kunnen het tegenovergestelde wel beweren, maar dat heeft amper of geen invloed op het grootste deel van de bevolking en dat geldt lullig genoeg voor een groot deel van de westerse wereld...... Daarmee wordt ook de democratie aangetast, althans voor zover deze nog bestaand is...... Extra verontrustend is het dat men daarnaast die alternatieve media meer en meer weert van de sociale media, censuur in het belang van het grootkapitaal, gesteund door de reguliere media, waarvan de zogenaamde journalisten het  zelfs geen punt vinden om te eisen dat er censuur wordt uitgeoefend op de sociale media...... Two different media watchdog outlets, Media Lens and Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR), have published articles on the complete blackout in mainstream news institutions on the revelation by Icelandic newspaper Stundin that a US superseding indictment in the case against Julian Assange was based on false testimony from diagnosed sociopath and convicted child molester Sigurdur Thordarson.

FAIR's Alan MacLeod writes that "as of Friday, July 2, there has been literally zero coverage of it in corporate media; not one word in the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, NBC News, Fox News or NPR."

"A search online for either 'Assange' or 'Thordarson' will elicit zero relevant articles from establishment sources, either US or elsewhere in the Anglosphere, even in tech-focused platforms like the Verge, Wired or Gizmodo," MacLeod adds.

"We have not found a single report by any ‘serious’ UK broadcaster or newspaper," says the report by Media Lens. "But in a sane world, Stundin’s revelations about a key Assange witness – that Thordarson lied in exchange for immunity from prosecution – would have been headline news everywhere, with extensive media coverage on BBC News at Six and Ten, ITV News, Channel 4 News, front-page stories in the Times, Telegraph, the Guardian and more."

"For those who still believe the media provides news, please read this," tweeted Australian journalist John Pilger regarding the Media Lens report. "Having led the persecution of Julian Assange, the 'free press' is uniformly silent on sensational news that the case against Assange has collapsed. Shame on my fellow journalists."

As we discussed the other day, this weird, creepy media blackout has parallels with another total blackout on a different major news story which also involved WikiLeaks. In late 2019 the leak outlet Assange founded was publishing multiple documents from whistleblowers in the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) revealing that the organisation's leadership actively tampered in the investigation into an alleged chlorine gas attack in Douma, Syria in 2018 to support the US government narrative on the allegation, yet the mass media wouldn't touch it. A Newsweek reporter resigned from his position during this scandalous blackout and published the emails of his editors forbidding him from covering the story on the grounds that no other major outlet had reported on it.

Make no mistake, this is most certainly a new phenomenon. If you don't believe me, contrast the blackout on these stories with the mass media coverage on WikiLeaks revelations a few short years earlier. The press eagerly lapped up the 2016 publications of Democratic Party emails and actively collaborated with WikiLeaks in the publication of the Chelsea Manning leaks in 2010. Even the more recent Vault 7 leaks published in 2017 received plenty of media coverage.

Yet now every WikiLeaks-related story that is inconvenient for the US-centralized empire is carefully kept out of mainstream attention, with a jarring uniformity and consistency we've never experienced before. If the media environment of today had existed ten or fifteen years earlier, it's possible that most people wouldn't even know Assange existed, much less the important information about the powerful that WikiLeaks has brought to light.

We also caught a strong whiff of this new trend in the near-total blackout on the Hunter Biden October surprise last year, which only went mainstream because it stood to benefit one of America's two mainstream political factions. After the New York Post first broke the story we saw mainstream media figures publicly explaining to each other why it was fine not to cover it with reasoning that was all over the map, from it's a waste of time to it's just too darn complicated to it's not our job to research these things to the Washington Post's notorious "We must treat the Hunter Biden leaks as if they were a foreign intelligence operation — even if they probably aren't."

Anyone who dared publicize the leaks anywhere near the mainstream liberal echo chamber was bashed into submission by the herd, and without any legitimate reason it was treated like a complete non-story at best and a sinister Russian op at worst. And then, lo and behold, in April of this year Hunter Biden acknowledged that the leaks could very well have come from his laptop after all, and not from some GRU psyop.

And I think that whole ordeal gives us some answers into this disturbing new dynamic of complete blackouts on major news stories. Last year The Spectator‘s Stephen L Miller described how the consensus formed among the mainstream press since Clinton’s 2016 loss that it is their moral duty to be uncritical of Trump’s opponent and suppress any news stories which might benefit them.

“For almost four years now, journalists have shamed their colleagues and themselves over what I will call the ‘but her emails’ dilemma,” Miller writes. “Those who reported dutifully on the ill-timed federal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private server and spillage of classified information have been cast out and shunted away from the journalist cool kids’ table. Focusing so much on what was, at the time, a considerable scandal, has been written off by many in the media as a blunder. They believe their friends and colleagues helped put Trump in the White House by focusing on a nothing-burger of a Clinton scandal when they should have been highlighting Trump’s foibles. It’s an error no journalist wants to repeat.”

Once you've accepted that journalists have not just a right but a duty to suppress news that is both factual and newsworthy in order to protect a political agenda, you're out in open water in terms of blatant propaganda manipulation. And we saw the mainstream press shoved into alignment with this doctrine in the wake of the 2016 election.

This shove was never the biggest story of the day, but it was constant, forceful, and extremely dominant in the conversations that mainstream journalists were having with each other both publicly and privately in the wake of the 2016 election. Even before the votes were cast, we saw people like Vox's Matt Yglesias and Axios editor Scott Rosenberg shaming mass media reporters for focusing on the Hillary Clinton email scandal, and after Trump hysteria kicked in it got a whole lot more aggressive.

In 2017 we saw things like Clinton insider Jennifer Palmieri melodramatically lamenting the media's fixation on WikiLeaks publications despite the Clinton campaign's desperate attempts to warn them that it was a Russian operation (a claim that to this day remains entirely without evidence). Liberal pundits like Joy Reid, Eric Boehlert and Peter Daou (prior to his leftward conversion) were constantly browbeating the press on Twitter for covering the leaks at all.

It ramped up even further when mainstream reporters like The New York Times' Amy Chozick and CNN's Jeffrey Toobin stepped forward with degrading mea culpas on how badly they regret allowing the Russian government to use them as unwitting pawns to elect Donald Trump with their reporting on newsworthy facts about completely authentic documents. It was like a cross between the confession/execution scene from Animal Farm and the walk of atonement scene from Game of Thrones.

Bit by bit the belief that the press has a moral obligation to suppress newsworthy stories if there's a possibility that they could benefit undesirable parties foreign or domestic became the prevailing orthodoxy in mainstream news circles. By mid-2018 we were seeing things like BBC reporter Annita McVeigh admonishing a guest for voicing skepticism about Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's culpability in the Douma incident on the grounds that "we're in an information war with Russia." It's now simply taken as a given that managing narratives is part of the job.

Again, this is a new phenomenon. Mainstream media have always been propaganda firms, but they've relied on spin, distortion, half-truths, uneven coverage, and uncritically parroted government assertions; there weren't these complete information barricades across all outlets. You'd see them giving important stories an inadequate amount of coverage, and some individual outlets would neglect inconvenient stories. But you'd always see someone jump at the chance to be the first to report it, if for no other reason than ratings and profit.

That's simply not how things work now. A major story can come to light and only be covered by media outlets which mainstream partisans will scoff at and dismiss, like RT or Zero Hedge.

The way the mass media have begun simply ignoring major news stories that are inconvenient for the powerful, across not just some but all major news outlets, is extremely disturbing. It means any time there's an inconvenient revelation, mainstream news institutions will just pretend it doesn't exist.

Seriously think about what this means for a moment. This is telling whistleblowers and investigative journalists that no matter how hard they work or how much danger they put themselves in to get critical information out to the public, the public will never find out about it, because all mainstream news outlets will unify around blacking it out.

You want to talk about a threat to the press? Forget jailing journalists and whistleblowers, how about all news outlets of any real influence unifying to simply deny coverage to any major information which comes to light? This is a threat to the thing the press fundamentally is. More than a threat. It's the end. The end of the possibility of any kind of journalism having any meaningful impact.

The journalist who worked on the Stundin report says he spent months working on this story, and he would surely have expected his revelations to get some coverage in the rest of the western press. The OPCW whistleblowers would surely have expected their revelations to get enough attention to make a difference, otherwise they wouldn't have leaked those documents at great risk to themselves. What's being communicated to whistleblowers and journalists in these blackouts is, don't bother. It won't make any difference, because no one will ever see what you reveal.

And if that's true, well. God help us all, I guess.
