Kennisplatform Integratie & Samenleving (KIS), een vehikel dat in feite bestaat uit het Verwey-Jonker Instituut en Movisie en wordt gesubsidieerd door ons allen via het ministerie van Sociale Zaken, trekt de Armeense genocide in twijfel.....

De Tweede Kamer heeft na een ongelofelijk aantal jaren getouwtrek over deze zaak, begin dit jaar eindelijk erkend dat de Armeense genocide een feit is, echter niet het neoliberale afbraakkabinet Rutte 3 en haar voorgangers, waar mensenlevens uiteraard niet opwegen tegen economisch gewin..........

In een publicatie van februari 2017, weigert het KIS zonder voorbehoud de massamoord op de Armeniërs als genocide neer te zetten, wat het uiteraard wel is....... Even iets over KIS: dit platform adviseert, biedt praktische tips en instrumenten over vraagstukken rond integratie, migratie en diversiteit. Deze adviezen worden actief gedeeld met beleidsmakers van gemeenten en andere overheidsinstellingen, politici, professionals werkzaam bij maatschappelijke organisaties, migrantenorganisaties en het bedrijfsleven.......

Het is duidelijk dat KIS haar bestaan belangrijker vindt dan 'onbenulligheden' als de Armeense genocide, haar bestaan dat er onder meer in ligt een goede band te onderhouden met het dictatoriale bewind van Erdogan en haar fanatieke aanhang in Nederland......  Deze fanatieke aanhang van de Turkse regering, (uiteraard) bestaande uit 'Turkse Nederlanders*' het eerst de Turkse regering dienen en waarbij men die regering ziet als degene aan wie men verantwoording moet afleggen, niet aan de Nederlandse.....

Met haar uitspraken spaart KIS de kool en de geit, immers die fanatieke Turken willen als de Nederlandse regering de vreselijke massamoord op de Armeniërs niet zien als genocide, terwijl aan alle voorwaarden is voldaan, 'waaraan een genocide moet voldoen......' Ofwel KIS houdt hiermee zowel de Nederlandse regering en de fanatieke Turken te vriend, dit over een genocide van 100 jaar geleden....... (waar de houding van KIS ten opzichte van de Nederlandse regering 'logisch' is, deze is immers de subsidiegever) 

Erger nog is het feit dat KIS hiermee de uiterst smerige houding van de Nederlandse regering legitimeert, daarnaast heeft dit platform het gore lef gehad openlijk haar twijfel over de Armeense genocide uit te spreken....... Dan te bedenken dat KIS met ons aller belastinggeld wordt betaald....... 

Kortom je kan dan ook niet anders dan KIS als een lobbyorganisatie van de Nederlandse regering te zien..... (en in deze zaak zelfs als lobbyorgaan voor de reli-fascistische Turkse regering.....)

De genocide op de Armeense burgers van het Ottomaanse Rijk, aangevangen in 1915, wordt sinds begin dit jaar erkend door de Tweede Kamer. Met uitzondering uiteraard van de erdoğanisten van DENK. Het kabinet daarentegen weigert zich nog steeds uit te spreken over deze volkerenmoord. Het Kennisplatform Integratie & Samenleving (KIS), dat wordt gesubsidieerd door het ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid, gaat nog verder dan zijn broodheer en trekt de Armeense genocide zelfs in twijfel.

KIS is een samenwerkingsverband van het Verwey-Jonker Instituut en Movisie. Naar eigen zeggen doet het platform “onderzoek, adviseert en biedt praktische tips en instrumenten over vraagstukken rond integratie, migratie en diversiteit. Deze informatie wordt actief gedeeld met beleidsmakers bij gemeenten en andere overheidsinstellingen, politici, professionals werkzaam bij maatschappelijke organisaties, migrantenorganisaties en het bedrijfsleven.”

“Vermeende” genocide

In een publicatie uit februari 2017 met de titel “Verhoudingen tussen Turks-Nederlandse groeperingen”, weigert KIS de massamoord op Armeniërs onomwonden te kwalificeren als een genocide en probeert het een schijnbaar neutrale positie in te nemen. Het platform stelt het volgende: “De leiders van de Osmaanse regering besloten in 1915 tot deportatie van de Armeense bevolking uit Oost- en Centraal-Anatolië naar de Syrische woestijn, als een oorlogsmaatregel om de nationale veiligheid te garanderen. In de periode tot de late zomer van 1916 kwamen naar schatting tussen 600.000 en 800.000 Armeniërs om. Ze werden het slachtoffer van massale executies, aanvallen door paramilitaire bendes, en ziekte en uitputting tijdens soms maandenlange marsen naar het zuiden. De Armeniërs en veel westerse landen kwalificeren dit als genocide, maar Turkije heeft zich altijd op het standpunt gesteld dat het oorlog was en er veel slachtoffers vielen door gewapende strijd, honger en ziekte.”

Op zijn website gaat KIS nog verder en trekt de genocide ronduit in twijfel. Het platform schrijft: 

“De meeste Armeniërs woonden voor de Eerste Wereldoorlog in het oosten van het huidige Turkije en delen van het huidige Syrië en Iran. Een aantal van de nu in Nederland woonachtige Armeniërs is tijdens of na de Eerste Wereldoorlog naar Nederland gevlucht, het merendeel kwam vanaf de jaren zestig als arbeidsmigrant naar Nederland. De vermeende Armeense genocide heeft regelmatig tot spanningen geleid tussen Armeniërs en Turkse Nederlanders die zich niet herkennen in de term ‘genocide’.”

Beschamend

Het is beschamend dat KIS, een samenwerkingsverband dat prat gaat op zijn onderzoeksvaardigheden, de torenhoge wetenschappelijke bewijsvoering links laat liggen en de volkerenmoord op Armeniërs een “vermeende” genocide noemt. Naar de redenen hiervan kunnen we alleen maar gissen. Wellicht acht het platform het noodzakelijk om zijn subsidiegever, het kabinet, na te praten. En/of: men is bang voor de voorspelbare reactie van nationalistische en reactionaire Turken, een reactie die naast woede ook zal bestaan uit gesloten deuren voor KIS-onderzoekers die daardoor geen ingang meer kunnen krijgen voor onderzoek binnen en naar de Turkse gemeenschap.

Ook klopt de beschrijving van de achtergrond van de genocide door KIS niet. Het Ottomaanse besluit tot “deportatie” (lees: uitroeiing) van de Armeense gemeenschap was – in tegenstelling tot wat het platform in navolging van de Ottomaanse en Turkse staten stelt – niet ingegeven door militaire zorgen om de nationale veiligheid. De Armeense bevolking vormde simpelweg geen serieuze militaire bedreiging. Het besef dat de oorlog was verloren vormde juist de trigger voor het genocidebesluit van de Ottomaanse pasja’s: zij wilden het percentage Armeniërs in heel Anatolië reduceren tot marginale cijfers om te voorkomen dat zij zich na de onafwendbare nederlaag van het Ottomaanse Rijk konden afscheiden en een onafhankelijk Armenië konden uitroepen.


Rectificatie

Er is maar een weg voor KIS om zich te redden uit dit moeras van angsthazerij en historische onwaarheden. En dat is een rectificatie. “1915” was ongetwijfeld een genocide.

Hollywood sterren vieren feest n.a.v. de massamoord op Palestijnen

Op 1 november jl. was er een groot feest in Hollywood, een zogenaamde 'fundraiser' voor het Israëlische leger...... Waarom dat nodig is, is me een raadsel, immers dat terreurleger wordt dubbel en dwars gesteund door de VS en dat met vele miljarden......

Een feest om de moordenaars een extra 'hart onder de riem te steken', daar deze psychopaten geen hart bezitten? Je leest 't beste bezoeker, ik sla er maar een slag naar.......

Sinds maart dit jaar hebben Israëlische psychopaten, 'helden' die als scherpschutter meer dan 200 ongewapende Palestijnen (dat zijn mensen) hebben vermoord, inclusief, kinderen, gehandicapten, medisch hulpverleners en journalisten, dat alles over de grens met de Gazastrook, dus ook nog eens op gebied 'van de Palestijnen....' 

En daarvoor denken flut acteurs als Kutcher (die dom genoeg dacht Charlie Sheen te kunnen evenaren) dat die militairen wel beloond mogen worden, met nog meer kogels en wapens..........

RAMALLAH, West Bank - As Hollywood stars celebrated at a fundraiser for the Israeli army last week in Los Angeles, halfway across the world Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip were waking up for another Friday of protest and bloodshed.

The gala on 1 November, organised by Friends of the Israeli Defence Forces and attended by actors such as Ashton Kutcher, Gerard Butler and Andy Garcia, was praised by Israel and its supporters for raising a record $60 million and bringing together more than 1,200 people. 

A memorandum of understanding signed between Israel and Barack Obama's US administration in 2016 included a record $38bn deal to provide Israel with military assistance over a ten-year period, the largest such pledge in American history.

In the occupied Palestinian territory and on social media, the star-studded event was met with anger and condemnation.

In 2016, Ashton Kutcher was filmed "shutting down" an activist from the BDS movement at a promotional event for the property rental company Airbnb, which was listing homes in illegal Israeli settlements. "But this comapany is about bringing people together and loving one another", Kutcher said, speaking about the privately-held global corporation. 

“The Israeli army will use these funds to buy more bullets and more bombs, only to kill more civilians,” said Ahmed Abu Artema, an organiser of the Great March of Return protests in the Gaza Strip. The rallies, which call for the right of return of refugees to their homes and an end to Palestinian suffering, have been ongoing since 30 March.

“The Israeli army has killed more than 200 civilians and wounded some 20,000; these people were men, women and children calling for basic human rights. They did not pose any threat to the Israeli army,” Abu Artema told Middle East Eye.  

Despite cries of human rights abuses and violations of international law, the voices of Palestinians were nowhere to be heard at the Los Angeles event.

The gala’s attendees enjoyed a performance by producer and rapper Pharrell Williams, who was attacked on social media for recently asking US President Donald Trump to refrain from playing his song “Happy” at his rallies only to perform it at the fundraiser.

This year's Friends of the Israel Defense Forces Gala topped last year’s record-breaking fundraiser.

           
“It is difficult to understand how actors and performers, who carry the message of life, can               support an army that carries out systematic killings, which contradict the essence of life                   and art,” Abu Artema said. 

“To us, anyone who funds this army has blood on their hands,” he added.

For Mahmoud Shobi, a resident of the West Bank city of Nablus, funds from the US government, US taxpayer money and donations from American citizens have only allowed Israel to “intensify its occupation and colonialism”.

Shobi lost eight family members in 2002 when US-made bulldozers, bought by Israel, demolished his home with his family still inside.

“Israel has used its money and weapons to destroy our homes, our trees, and kill our people,” he told MEE. “It doesn’t matter where this money is coming from."

“They’ve labelled us ‘terrorists’, though we fight for our land. Even in ‘peaceful’ resistance, as we see in Gaza, the protestors are being met with live bullets,” Shobi continued.

“But as families of martyrs and political prisoners, as people who are facing the occupation, these donations will only empower us to become more resilient.”

Fareed Taamallah, a political activist based in Ramallah, said he believes more needs to be done to raise awareness of the situation on the ground by the Palestinians in the West.

“Israel has effective tools to market itself as the only democracy of the Middle East and claim that it holds the same values as the American people, particularly with the Zionist lobby,” Taamallah told MEE. “They try to show Israel as a victim of Arab and Muslim terror.”

“We need to work with Palestinians in the US and Europe to change the narrative. We must be more active in raising awareness of where this money goes.”

The activist said the money raised in Hollywood would undoubtedly be used to further suppress Palestinians, pointing to Israel’s Nation-state law passed earlier this year. 

          
“Every American dollar donated to the occupation’s state translates into our suffering as a               Palestinian people,” Taamallah said.

Ongelofelijk maar waar: de Britse justitie gaat 'hate crimes' van de Labour partij onderzoeken (hate crimes >> misdaden met een racistisch of in dit geval antisemitisch motief), zo meldde BBC World Service in haar radionieuws van 12.00 u. (CET).....

Je snapt het al: men stelt dus dat uitlatingen gedaan door bijvoorbeeld Jeremy Corbyn met kritiek op de illegale staat Israël, als een misdaad moeten worden gezien, waarbij Corbyn wordt beschuldigd van antisemitisme........

Israël is zoals gezegd illegaal gesticht en heeft sinds die tijd (1948) een enorm aantal massamoorden begaan onder de Palestijnen (die overigens ook semieten zijn...), dat mag je tegenwoordig niet meer zeggen want dan ben je een antisemiet.......

Het is al zo zot dat Israël zelfs slachtoffers van de holocaust beschuldigt van antisemitisme, dat overkwam ook de intussen overleden Hajo Meijer, lid van 'Een ander Joods Geluid.....' Op basis van die meer dan belachelijke beschuldiging werd Corbyn door de neoliberale schoften (van de Tories, als ook de neoliberale tegenstanders uit de eigen partij) in eigen land als antisemiet neergezet...... De reden? Corbyn was het met Hajo Meijer eens was wat betreft diens kritiek op de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël.....

Alsof de zionistische fascisten in Israël alles kunnen flikken wat 'god verboden heeft' en het recht hebben om de Palestijnen uit te moorden....... Waarnaast Israël ook belangrijke critici (meestal Palestijnen) van haar barbaarse en bloedige beleid t.a.v. de Palestijnen in het buitenland vermoordt.......

Opvallende vergelijkingen van de huidige VS met de deelname aan de Eerste Wereldoorlog

Harry Blain is een student 'politieke wetenschappen' aan de City University of New York, de CUNY. In die hoedanigheid heeft hij een opiniestuk geschreven over de vergelijkingen tussen 2018* en de periode dat de VS verwikkeld was in de Eerste Wereldoorlog (WOI).

Volgens Blain had die periode (van 2 jaar) alles wat de VS heden ten dage heeft: een regering die demonstranten haat, een hooggerechtshof dat in lijn liep met de regering, de hysterie over het volkslied en nationalisme in het algemeen. Wat nu nog niet gebeurt is het kussen van de vlag, al zie je nu in de VS bijna geen huis dat niet een VS vlag voor of aan het huis heeft hangen.......

Al moet ik zeggen dat deze nationalistische hysterie fiks is opgepompt na de aanslagen van 9/11, neem ook de Patriot Act.

Wat we na die aanslagen nog niet zagen, waren de smerige beschuldigingen aan het adres van de sociale media over het brengen van fake news (nepnieuws) en de wil tot censuur op die media, terwijl de reguliere media na 9/11 niet anders deden dan vooral veel fake news brengen, waar de absolute top van liegen en bedriegen door die media destijds lag in de aanloop naar en tijdens de illegale oorlog tegen Irak......... Waar dit liegen en bedriegen nu standaard door die reguliere (massa-) media wordt gedaan.

Ten eerste was er in 2001 nog amper sprake van sociale media, die toen pas in opkomst waren. Ten tweede zijn de reguliere media na 2001 voor een groot deel in handen gekomen van multimiljonairs/miljardairs of van grote beursgenoteerde bedrijven, beiden groepen die belang hebben de huidige neoliberale status quo te beschermen en te handhaven....... Leuke bijkomstigheid, dat laatste, de media in handen van bepaalde figuren of groepen, heeft er juist voor gezorgd dat er platforms op het internet verschenen die zware kritiek leverden en leveren op die reguliere media en die met deze kritiek op de (reguliere) berichtgeving zelf het echte nieuws brachten en brengen.

Everything About 2018 Shows Why Americans Should Remember World War I

The Great War had it all: An administration that hated protesters. A compliant Supreme Court. National anthem panics and literal flag kissing!

It wasn’t the good war. But, in our popular imagination, it wasn’t the bad one either.

Instead, it’s identified by a vague mixture of concepts, names, and events: the Lusitania, “Wilsonian Idealism,” Versailles, Theodore Roosevelt.

The First World War — known as the “Great War” in Europe — has largely faded from memory on this side of the Atlantic. Arguably, this is because our involvement was so brief — joining the slaughter over two years after it began and leaving it just over eighteen months later.

But, beyond the fact that it claimed the lives of over 100,000 Americans, there are good reasons why, a century later, we should remember this chapter in our history, not least because it has ominous parallels with today.

Compliant Courts

The political science textbooks tell us that “checks and balances” are central to American democracy.

And, with a mechanical and historically dubious recounting of Marbury v. Madison (1803), students are immediately taught about the rise of one of these great barriers to tyranny: judicial review. 

Unlike in the crusty old monarchies, they learn, wise and dispassionate judges can protect us from oppressive laws and power-hungry politicians.

The Founding Fathers would find this view surprising. As Alexander Hamilton succinctly put it, the power of the judiciary would always be limited because it had “no influence over either the sword or the purse.” And Madison repeatedly warned about the weakness of “parchment barriers” laid down in the constitution.

In 1917 and 1918, these fears — and worse — were justified.

Far from merely accepting the various censorship laws passed by Congress, one of the country’s most revered Supreme Court Justices, Oliver Wendell Holmes, affirmatively endorsed them.

The crime was committed by Charles Schenk, General Secretary of the Socialist Party in Philadelphia, whose organization was distributing leaflets protesting the first ever nation-wide conscription law (the Union and Confederacy had separate conscription laws during the Civil War).

Opposition to the draft came from many motives and groups: socialists who saw this as the rich man’s war and the poor man’s fight; second- or third-generation immigrants whose parents had come to America to escape conscription in Europe; German- or Austrian-Americans who objected to killing their own friends and family in the trenches.

But for Holmes, none of this mattered.

Starting with the obnoxiously famous remark — “The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man in falsely shouting fire in a theatre and causing a panic” — Holmes argued further: “When a nation is at war, many things that might be said in time of peace are such a hindrance to its effort that their utterance will not be endured so long as men fight, and that no Court could regard them as protected by any constitutional right.”

This was essentially an eloquent, lawyer-speak translation of Attorney General Thomas Gregory’s chilling promise to the anti-war movement: “May God have mercy on them, for they need expect none from an outraged people and an avenging government.”

Schenk was found guilty and so were many others.

Few high-profile socialists avoided the reach of the Espionage and Sedition Acts, which defined both “espionage” and “sedition” as almost any criticism of the war. A very partial list of targets would include Eugene Debs, Rose Pastor Stokes, Joseph Stilson, Frederick Krafft, Abraham Sugarman, and Edwin Firth.

Not to mention less famous people like Walter Matthey in Iowa, who was sentenced to a year in jail for (in the words of the attorney general) “attending a meeting, listening to an address in which disloyal utterances were made, applauding some of the statements made by the speaker… and contributing 25 cents.” (Details of all these cases can be found in HC Peterson and Gilbert C Fite’s book, Opponents of War, 1917-1918).

Media Support and Flag Worship

Thankfully, we have the “fourth estate” for times like these: dogged, fearless, whiskey-drinking journalists working through the night to keep our democracy on life support.
Here’s a sample of how the New York Times’ editorial board approached this mission during and after the war (again, documented by Peterson and Fite):

• “It is the duty of every good citizen to communicate to the proper authorities any evidence of sedition that comes to his notice” (June 6, 1917).
• “The Selective Draft Act gives a long and sorely needed means of disciplining a certain insolent foreign element in this nation” (June 10, 1917).
• “The I.W.W. [Industrial Workers of the World] agitators are, in effect, and perhaps in fact, agents of Germany. The Federal Authorities should make short work of these treasonable conspirators against the United States” (August 4, 1917).
• “There is no reason for sympathy with [Eugene] Debs” (March 12, 1919).
• “[Amnesty for political prisoners] is of impudence and unreason all compact” (April 5, 1921).

Meanwhile, the Washington Post lamented the lack of war enthusiasm on the East Coast, in contrast to the “healthful and wholesome awakening in the interior of the country,” which was praiseworthy “in spite of excesses such as lynching.”

Other “excesses” included tarring-and-feathering, vandalism against people who didn’t buy enough Liberty Bonds, the burning of German books, and — almost unbelievably — rituals of forced flag-kissing, which, “by 1918, had become so frequent” that they were “hardly first-rate news.”

Eerily, Peterson and Fite recount: “Along with flag-kissing came a great sensitiveness about respect for the national anthem,” as “disorderly conduct” fines were dished out to people who failed to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner across the country.

Drawing from the Dissenters

The main reason we know about these events is because they were meticulously documented by an obscure organization called the National Civil Liberties Bureau, initially part of the American Union Against Militarism.

On August 31, 1918, the Bureau had its New York City offices raided and records seized by the Justice Department.

Yet, it survived the war years, and renamed and reorganized itself into what we now know as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) — a crucial, if not saintly, defender of the Bill of Rights ever since.

The ACLU will be the first to tell you that we are now living under a president whose gutter patriotism and disdain for free speech rivals the worst demagogues of that shameful era.

As this same president edges closer to war with Iran — and continues the permanent war against “terrorists” — we would do well to heed the advice of Wisconsin Senator Robert LaFollette, expressed in one of Congress’s greatest speeches on April 4, 1917:

“We should not seek to hide our blunder behind the smoke of battle to inflame the mind of our people by half-truths into the frenzy of war in order that they may never appreciate the real cause of it until it is too late.”
