Burkina Faso gedompeld in terreur met grote dank aan de VS en de NAVO

In het Afrikaanse Burkina Faso is de gegijzelde Canadees Kirk Woodman* doodgeschoten teruggevonden. Hij werd ontvoerd en gegijzeld door een islamitische terreurgroep.

Het noorden van Burkina Faso is de laatste maanden meer en meer het tafereel van aanslagen geworden, hoewel ook in de rest van het land aanslagen worden gepleegd. De terreur in Burkina Faso is voor een heel groot deel te danken aan de VS en andere NAVO staten die zo nodig in Libië moesten ingrijpen, daar Khadaffi o.a. een gevaar was geworden voor de oliedollar....... Khadaffi was van zins een nieuwe munt in te voeren, waarmee de oliemarkt van de dollar af zou stappen.... In tegenstelling tot de dollar, verworden tot een vod papier, was de nieuwe dinar die Khadaffi in wilde voeren, gedekt door een enorme goudvoorraad....... (die na het illegale westerse ingrijpen plotseling was verdwenen.....)

Met de oorlog van de VS en andere NAVO leden, werd Libië van rijkste Afrikaanse land terug gebombardeerd tot zo ongeveer het armste land op dat continent. Libië was een moderne staat waar zowel jongens als meisjes met grote steun van de overheid mochten studeren in het buitenland, waar de staat de kosten voor de studie, het dagelijkse leven en de huur van woonruimte betaalde....... Onder Khadaffi waren een groot aantal zaken t.b.v. de rest van de bevolking gratis of zo goed als gratis, zoals gezegd scholing (nogmaals voor jongens en meisjes en dat in een islamitisch land!), gezondheidszorg, energie en huisvesting......

Intussen is het land dat voor een fiks deel in puin ligt, verworden tot een door uiterst gewelddadige oorlogsheren en islamitische strijdgroepen geterroriseerd land, waar zelfs openbare slavenmarkten plaatsvinden...... Zaken als scholing bestaan nog amper en zeker niet voor meisjes, onderdak is een probleem geworden, men mag al blij zijn als men 3 uur per dag elektriciteit heeft en gezondheidszorg bestaat nog amper in Libië...... Nogmaals: door westers ingrijpen.....

Door dit ingrijpen van het westen vluchtten grote groepen Toearegs naar het noorden van Mali, waar deze groepen hun macht vestigden, zeer tegen de zin van de regering...... Een conflict dat in feite nog steeds gaande is en waar NAVO partners als Nederland 'de vrede moeten bewaren', vrede die door ingrijpen van de NAVO in Libië de nek om werd gedraaid........

De ellende hield bepaald niet op bij de landsgrenzen van Mali en zo is o.a. Burkina Faso het toneel geworden van in feite een oorlogssituatie, vooral in het noorden van dat land.......

Ongelofelijk, maar een woordvoerder van Human Rights Watch (HRW) probeerde op CBC Nova Scotia uit te leggen hoe e.e.a. zo verkeerd kon gaan, waarbij ze doelbewust niet sprak over de Toearegs en de westerse terreur in Libië...... Nee als je deze woordvoerder van HRW moet geloven is de strijd in Mali als een soort van klimaatramp over het noorden van dit land geraasd......

Kan me niet voorstellen dat men bij HRW niet weet hoe de vork werkelijk in de steel steekt.... HRW is dan ook meer en meer verworden tot een organisatie als de White Helmets, een organisatie waar men doelbewust grote oorlogsmisdaden van westerse mogendheden verzwijgt en spreekt naar de mond van NAVO staten o.l.v. de VS...... Landen die het liefst zoveel mogelijk oorlog willen voeren..... Waarbij HRW geen problemen heeft met het herhalen van leugens in de wereld gebracht door VS politici, het Pentagon, de CIA,andere VS geheime (terreur-) diensten en de totaal afhankelijke reguliere massamedia in dat land......

* Kirk Woodman was werkzaam in de lokale top (in Burkino Faso) van een Canadees mijnbedrijf, een bedrijf dat ongetwijfeld op de veel beproefde westerse neokoloniale manier een land van haar grondstof goud ontdoet en dat tegen een grijpstuiver, geregeld door omkoping van ambtenaren en politici..... Soedan: troepen van dictator Bashir gaan tekeer tegen demonstranten

In de strijd tegen demonstranten, begon de regering van dictator Bashir met het beperken van de toegang tot Facebook en Twitter, twee platforms die door demonstranten worden gebruikt om de demonstraties door het land te coördineren. Van de 40 miljoen Soedanezen heeft naar schatting 28 miljoen de beschikking over een smartphone, vandaar........

De schrijver van het hieronder opgenomen artikel, Joziah Thayer, is zo naïef om te denken dat Bashir het meende toen deze na gewelddadigheden van het leger tegen demonstranten, het leger publiekelijk opriep minder geweld te gebruiken, terwijl ze Bashir even daarvoor vergeleek met een gewonde leeuw die elk moment kan toeslaan..... Ze stelt dan ook dat het leger ondanks die oproep door is gegaan met het gebruik van bruut geweld tegen de demonstranten, waar ik aan toe zou willen voegen: zoals Bashir dat heeft verordonneerd......

Niet voor niets ook dat Bashir, nu 30 jaar aan het bewind na een staatsgreep van het leger, allerlei politieke tegenstanders en demonstranten heeft laten arresteren. Waar dezelfde Bashir het advies van de VN, als gebaar politieke gevangenen vrij te laten, naast zich heeft neergelegd......

Troepen van de regering zouden volgens Human Rights Watch ziekenhuizen zijn binnengedrongen, om daar gewonde demonstranten af te tuigen en te arresteren.......

De VS, Groot-Brittannië, Canada en Noorwegen hebben laten weten zwaar verontrust te zijn en hebben gewaarschuwd dat de zaken die zich nu afspelen in Soedan nauwlettend worden gevolgd door die landen en dat e.e.a. gevolgen kan hebben voor de omgang met Soedan in de (nabije) toekomst..... Anders gezegd: Bashir als je niet oppast vallen wij Soedan binnen.....

Het lullige van westers ingrijpen in dergelijke situaties is dat dit niet leidt tot bescherming van de bevolking, integendeel het leidt altijd weer tot groot bloedvergieten onder de bevolking, terecht dan ook de hoop van Thayer dat de genoemde landen niet ingrijpen en het land in een bloedbad veranderen....... Wat Thayer niet noemt zijn de bemoeienissen van het westen met Soedan in het verleden, waar men maar weinig problemen had met Bashir (immers Soedan had een 'gezond economisch klimaat' voor (grote) westerse bedrijven, ofwel uiterst goedkope werkkrachten zonder enige rechten en geen 'gezeur' over milieuvervuiling enz.....)

Thayer heeft groot gelijk met te stellen dat de bevolking in opstand dient te komen tegen de corrupte regering Bashir en haar agressieve leger, waar dit geen taak is voor even agressieve westerse staten, die na ingrijpen landen achterlaten als rokende puinhopen, overladen met lijken... Voorts stelt Thayer dat de protesten in Soedan halverwege afgelopen december begonnen, echter als ik me niet vergis zijn die protesten al veel langer aan de gang, waarschijnlijk doelt Thayer op de grootte van de demonstraties, die inderdaad vanaf december fiks zijn gegroeid.

Late last month al-Bashir’s government began restricting access to popular social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter which have been used by demonstrators to coordinate protest in major cities across Sudan. President Omar al-Bashir has ruled over Sudan for 30 years after coming to power during a military coup in 1989.

According to Reuters, there are 40 million people in Sudan, and 28 million of them have mobile phones, which has made the Internet a vital tool in combating media censorship. President Omar al-Bashir’s actions reflect that of a paranoid lion ready to strike out with brute force against anyone who threatens his reign. He has arrested political opponents by the dozens even as the U.N. urged Bashir to release political foes and protesters imprisoned as a “good faith gesture.”

The protest began in mid-December, and instead of responding like a stable-minded leader Bashir publicly urged government forces to use less force, but his forces didn’t seem to listen as they cracked down on protesters resulting in dozens being killed. January 9th of this month, more protest erupted in the city of Omdurman leading to one protester being killed and six others injured. On the same day, President Omar al-Bashir held a rally in Sudan’s capital city of Khartoum, where he pledged to stay in control, seemingly oblivious to daily protest calls for him to step down.

According to a report from Human Rights Watch’s Associate Director in Africa, Jehanne Henry, Sudanese government forces entered hospitals terrifying patients and started to beat and arrest protesters being treated for injuries as well as the doctors who were treating them. Government forces were reportedly heard telling the hospital staff “we don’t care if you are doctors.” Later that same day, doctor organizations across Sudan condemned the attacks on hospitals by government forces and announced they were joining a nationwide general strike.

Norway, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada all condemned the attacks on protesters stating that the actions of Bashir and his government are being monitored and will dictate how these nations deal with Sudan in the future. Whenever we have unrest in a region, Western nations feel as if it is their right to be the policemen of the world. Why should a nation like the United States that has 25% of their population in prison be the moral authority of human rights globally? Sudan does not need the United States or the United Kingdom – all Sudan needs is a pure rebellion, from the citizens who live there.

In recent history when Western powers intervene in unrest in the Middle East or North African countries it often ends with the citizens who Western powers are allegedly helping, being displaced from their homes. The ‘War on Terror’ has killed millions of Muslims. These interventions rarely help the citizens of the nations where they intervene. Instead, they are used as pawns for public acceptance for the very atrocities being committed against them.

White Helmets: naast gebruik van terreur ook schuldig aan orgaanhandel, vernietigende VN video presentatie

Op deze plek heb ik al vaak over terreurorganisatie White Helmets geschreven, maar niets was gruwelijker dan de zaken uit het hieronder opgenomen artikel......

Zelfs in de VN is men ervan overtuigd dat de White Helmets een terreurorganisatie is (al zullen de VS, Saoedi-Arabië, andere arabische staten en Israël dat ontkennen), in tegenstelling tot de valse beelden van de White Helmets als hulpverleningsorganisatie, hier een relaas met beelden die er bepaald niet om liegen, om het nog maar voorzichtig uit te drukken...... Dan te bedenken dat Nederland ook deze terreurorganisatie heeft gesteund (met ons belastinggeld...).......

Lees het volgende verhaal en geeft het door, het masker van de White Helmets dient volledig vernietigd te worden, waarna deze organisatie in de hele westerse wereld eindelijk als de terreurorganisatie kan worden gezien, die het in werkelijkheid is!

Maxim Grigoriev of the “Foundation for the Study of Democracy”, discussed this and other findings gleaned from interviews with numerous individuals, including former terrorists, in Syria, during a video-taped presentation entitled, “Roundtable Discussion on the Middle East Issues: Activities of the White Helmets Organization in Syria” under UN auspices.

One interview subject, Omar Al-Mustafa — who wanted to be a White Helmet but wasn’t accepted because he wasn’t al Nusra Front (al Qaeda) — recounted the following:

“People evacuated by the White Helmets often did not come back alive.  For example, a person receives a minor injury, is rescued, evacuated, and then brought back with their stomach cut open and with their internal organs missing.  I heard that a little girl was injured.  They took her to Turkey and brought back in three days, dead and with no internal organs. People were scared.  When someone got injured, they were afraid to call the White Helmets and ask for help.”

Grigoriev’s findings, presented at the U.N, are consistent with previous on-the ground investigations, including those of pioneering investigative journalist Vanessa Beeley (also featured in the Roundtable presentation), and Prof. Tim Anderson. 

In October, 2017, locals told Prof. Tim Anderson that the building pictured below had been used for organ trafficking.

Additionally, the Director-General of Syria’s Coroner’s Office, Houssein Noufel, reported in November, 2016, that body organs from 15,000 Syrians were sold over the course of six years. [1]

A litany of crimes committed by the White Helmets is documented in the video below.

Equally disturbing, however, is that Western agencies, including Amnesty International, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), and Western media, use the White Helmets as sources for their stories.

A U.K document entitled, “Syria Resilience CSSF Programme Study” states, in reference to the White Helmets, which it names Syrian Civil Defence (SCD), amply documented, the “news” that the White Helmets report to Amnesty, SOHR, and myriad government sources, consists of fake news and staged rescues. “In addition to service delivery, SCD provide an invaluable reporting and advocacy role, being nominated again this year for the Nobel Peace Prize. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have stated that SCD are their most routinely reliable source for reporting. Throughout the bombardment by Russia since September 2015, SCD has provided essential corroboration that strikes were not targeting Da’esh but moderate opposition entities. This has provided confidence to statements made by UK and other international leaders made in condemnation of Russian actions.”

Amply documented, the “news” that the White Helmets report to Amnesty, SOHR, and myriad government sources, consists of fake news and staged rescues. Consider these screen grabs from the above video on UN Web TV:

Colonial media uses terrorist-embedded sources for their criminal disinformation campaigns, and these campaigns amount to (criminal) war propaganda.

Testimonies such as those above provide evidence-based counter-narratives which Western governments and their agencies have disappeared for years.

Bolton (o.a. Trumps adviseur buitenlandse zaken) wil de Khashoggi tapes niet horen, hij is het arabisch niet machtig....... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Oorlogsmisdadiger en superpsychopaat Bolton, de 'national security adviser' van Trump, die hem o.a. adviseert op het gebied van buitenlandse en militaire zaken, zei tegen reporters die hem ernaar vroegen, dat hij niet zal luisteren naar de Khashoggi tapes, die werden gemaakt tijdens de gruwelijke moord op Khashoggi in het Saoedische consulaat in Istanbul, daar hij de arabische taal niet machtig is.* 

Ofwel de adviseur van Trump wil alleen over zaken spreken en handelen, als men in het betreffende buitenland minimaal in het buitenland Engels spreekt...... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Wat een dolgedraaide gek, jezus! Was het maar waar dat de VS alleen haar illegale oorlogen voerde tegen Engelstalige landen, dan waren na 1945 miljoenen levens gespaard gebleven!

Kortom de VS zal geen maatregelen nemen tegen de reli-fascistische staat Saoedi-Arabië of haar werkelijke (bloedige) heerser, Mohammad bin Salman (MBS)..... Eigenlijk niet eens vreemd, als je ziet dat de VS de Saoedische terreurcoalitie helpt bij de genocide in Jemen, waarmee intussen al een enorm aantal mensen feitelijk is vermoord........ (zo sterft er elke 10 minuten een Jemenitisch kind door toedoen van de Saoedische terreurcoalitie.....) Dat gaat wel even wat verder dan de (verschrikkelijke) moord op Khashoggi, hoe lullig het ook is om dat vast te stellen......

Opperschoft MBS gaat overigens volgende week naar een G20 conferentie in Argentinië**. Human Rights Watch en een speciaal aanklager hebben onder de Argentijnse wet strafvervolging geëist van Saoedi-Arabië, dit vanwege oorlogsmisdaden. De Argentijnse wet staat dit toe, echter deskundigen hebben al gezegd dat het hoogst onwaarschijnlijk is dat MBS zal worden gearresteerd, niet in de laatste plaats daar een dergelijke aanklacht onderzocht moet worden, waarbij o.a. het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) zal worden gevraagd te getuigen.....

Bolton Won’t Listen to Khashoggi Murder Tape Because He Doesn’t Speak Arabic

(MEE) — US National Security Adviser John Bolton has said he doesn’t need to listen to the audio recording of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder because he doesn’t understand Arabic.

Speaking to reporters in a confrontational manner on Tuesday, Bolton asked: “Why do you think I should? What do you think I’ll learn from it?”

“I’m just trying to make the point that everybody who says ‘why don’t you listen to the tape’ – unless you speak Arabic, what are you going to get from it?” he said.

Bolton’s comments come as US President Donald Trump is under pressure from members of his own Republican party, as well as US intelligence officials and Democrats, to take decisive action to hold Saudi leaders accountable for Khashoggi’s murder.

Trump’s administration has defended Saudi Arabia and its crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, since the killing of Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and prominent columnist for the Washington Post who was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October.

As national security adviser, Bolton reports directly to Trump on matters relating to foreign policy and military affairs and leads the National Security Council, which dictates the White House’s national security policy to other branches of the federal government.

Last week, in a meandering written statement, Trump vowed to remain a “steadfast partner” of Saudi Arabia despite the murder, saying both Saudi King Salman and bin Salman, the country’s de facto ruler, deny having any knowledge of the journalist’s killing.

The US president has also repeatedly cast doubts on the CIA’s assertion that bin Salman, also known as MBS, ordered Khashoggi’s murder.

Saudi officials have repeatedly denied that the crown prince had any knowledge of the plan to murder Khashoggi or cover up the crime, but human rights groups, journalists, UN experts and others have pointed the finger at MBS, saying it’s impossible he was not involved.

The case has caused a split between Trump and some prominent politicians within his own Republican party.

On Sunday, several US senators rejected the president’s attempts to discredit the CIA’s conclusion that MBS ordered Khashoggi’s murder.

“I disagree with the president’s assessment. It’s inconsistent with the intelligence I’ve seen” implicating the crown prince, Republican Senator Mike Lee said on NBC’s Meet the Press television show.

Other Republican senators, including Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul and Bob Corker, have been unsparing in their assessments of Saudi Arabia’s involvement in Khashoggi’s killing, saying MBS must have been involved.

“I never thought I’d see the day a White House would moonlight as a public relations firm for the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia,” Corker, the current chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who is set to retire next year, wrote on Twitter.

No confirmed Trump-MBS meeting in Argentina

Amid the controversy over the US’s response to Khashoggi’s killing, the White House said Trump has no plans to meet with bin Salman when the two leaders are in Argentina next week for a G-20 summit.

Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that an informal meeting may happen, however.

“I wouldn’t say we’ve ruled out any interaction,” she said, although she stressed that “the president’s schedule is pretty packed”.

Earlier this week, Argentina announced it was examining whether to file criminal charges against MBS over his role in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

Human Rights Watch said the inquiry was opened after the group and an Argentine federal prosecutor lodged a complaint against the Gulf kingdom for violating international war crimes laws, according to a New York Times report.

Still, officials in Argentina have said bin Salman’s arrest, while he is in the South American country next week for the G-20 summit, is “extremely unlikely”, the Times reported.

*  Opperploert Bolton wist wel te vertellen dat de tapes uitwijzen dat Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) niet aanwezig was bij de moord...... Alsof dit MBS, de opdrachtgever tot die moord, vrijpleit....... Clinton, Bush, Obama en Trump zijn ronduit oorlogsmisdadigers, die waarschijnlijk nooit daadwerkelijk iemand hebben vermoord, dit doet niets af aan het feit dat ze grote oorlogsmisdadigers zijn en voor het leven gevangen zouden moeten zitten....... Met die uitspraak van Bolton geeft hij aan wel degelijk op de hoogte te zijn van wat er in de Saoedische consulaat is gebeurd; ofwel ook hij wenst (zoals te verwachten was) geen sancties tegen Saoedi-Arabië vanwege de moord op Khashoggi. (waarschijnlijk is Bolton ook de persoon die Trump heeft overtuigd geen actie te ondernemen, immers hij is, zoals gezegd, de adviseur van Trump op dat gebied)

** Misschien 'een goed idee' om pampakoningin Maxima in Argentinie, haar vader/moederland, de 'honneurs' waar te laten nemen, ze kan het immers, als de rest van het koningshuis, prima vinden met massamoordenaars....... Zo heeft Maxima massamoordenaar paus Franciscus (massamoordenaar vanwege het verbod op anticonceptie >> miljoenen aids doden) meermaals geld geschonken.......

VS heeft al 4 keer het verboden chemische wapen witte fosfor gebruikt

Vanaf midden september heeft de VS tot 4 maal toe het in bewoond gebied verboden chemische wapen witte fosfor ingezet 'tegen IS', dit in het dorp Hajin in de provincie Deir ez-Zor in Syrië......

Toevallig ligt het dorp Hajin vlakbij een olieraffinaderij, daarover gesproken de gebieden in Syrië waar de meeste olie te vinden is, zijn in handen van de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde... de VS! Een zaak, waar je als het gebruik van witte fosfor door de VS, de reguliere westerse media niet over hoort......

Eerder gebruikte de VS witte fosfor bij bombardementen op het Iraakse West-Mosul en het Syrische Raqqa, je weet wel toen o.a. de VN smeekte bij de VS te stoppen met bombarderen, daar er ongelofelijk veel burgerslachtoffers vielen bij die bombardementen, helaas was dat tevergeefs...... 

Tegelijkertijd durft men in die westerse media en politiek wel een grote bek op te zetten over de Russen en het reguliere Syrische leger, die telkens wel stoppen met bombarderen als er veel burgerslachtoffers dreigen te vallen, zoals 2 maanden voor de inname van Oost-Aleppo, een zaak die 'ook al' nooit werd gemeld door de reguliere westerse (massa-) media............ 

Hetzelfde geldt voor de 'door het reguliere Syrische leger gepleegde gifgasaanvallen', ondanks dat al lang duidelijk is dat die aanvallen werden uitgevoerd door de zogenaamde gematigde rebellen (gesteund met ons belastinggeld), die NB met medeweten (en zonder protest) van het westen beschikken over gifgassen als chlorine en sarin, blijft men Syrië beschuldigen........ 

Deze terreurgroepen, want dat zijn het, pleegden deze vreselijke aanslagen met de opzet deze in de schoenen van het Syrische bewind te schuiven, een false flag operatie noemt men dat....... Het is ronduit een schande dat dit gelukt is, 'met dank' aan de reguliere westerse media, westerse geheime diensten, het Syrisch Observatorium voor Mensenrechten (SOHR >> een propaganda orgaan van de 'gematigde rebellen...) en een groot deel van de westerse politici......

DEIR EZ ZOR, SYRIA – The U.S.-led coalition in Syria has been accused of using white phosphorus incendiary munitions for the fourth time since mid-September.  White phosphorus is banned internationally when used in areas with civilian populations.

Syrian state news agency SANA reported on a bombing conducted by the U.S.-led coalition that had targeted the small city of Hajin in Syria’s Eastern Deir Ez-Zor province over the weekend. The bombing, allegedly intended to target Daesh (ISIS) terrorists who control the city, killed fifteen civilians – among them women and children – and injured scores more. Civil sources cited by SANA reported that white phosphorus bombs had been used, which – in addition to resulting in several civilian deaths and injuries — caused massive property damage due to the fires resulting from the use of the banned substance.

White phosphorus is well-known for igniting spontaneously in the presence of oxygen and its use frequently results in post-explosion fires that can burn for hours, as well as painful chemical burns for those who come in contact with the substance, which can stick to hair and clothing. The International Committee of the Red Cross has stated that “employing asphyxiating, poisonous or other gases, and all analogous liquids, materials or devices is listed in the Statute of the International Criminal Court as a war crime.”

As a result of the extreme damage it can cause, Protocol III of the 1980 Convention on Conventional Weapons prohibits the use of the chemical weapon in areas populated by civilians. However, the United States is not a signatory of Protocol III.

The recent alleged bombing of a Syrian town with white phosphorus by munitions is the fourth time the U.S.-led coalition has been accused of using the banned substance in the village of Hajin just since September. On Oct. 29, and a few weeks prior on Oct. 13, local sources reported the use of white phosphorus by coalition jets in Hajin. A month prior, on Sept. 10, Russia’s military mission in Syria also accused the U.S. coalition of using white phosphorus munitions in the city of Hajin.

The prior bombings were the result of an effort of by the United States’ military’s proxy in Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to take the city of Hajin from Daesh. However, the SDF suspended its campaign to take Hajin at the end of October, three days before this most recent bombing. Notably, Hajin is the site of an important Syrian oil refinery, making it an area of interest to the U.S.-led coalition, which is currently occupying 30% of Syria as well as the areas containing the vast majority of the country’s oil resources.

Seeking Justification for War Crimes

Unfortunately, the U.S.-led coalition has been using white phosphorus in combat operations long before September. In fact, the use of white phosphorus had become so commonplace that a New Zealand general that worked with the coalition openly admitted to its use in Iraq’s Mosul in an interview with NPR. The coalition also used the banned munitions in its efforts to take the Syrian city of Raqqa from Daesh in June of last year.

Those two offenses, which took place in areas that were densely populated by civilians, prompted groups like Human Rights Watch (HRW) to slam the U.S.-led coalition for putting civilians in Raqqa and Mosul at unnecessary risk.

“No matter how white phosphorus is used, it poses a high risk of horrific and long-lasting harm in crowded cities like [Syria’s] Raqqa and [Iraq’s] Mosul and any other areas with concentrations of civilians,” Steve Goose, the arms director at the HRW, had stated last June.

At the time, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition claimed that the U.S. military only used white phosphorus in “accordance with the law of armed conflict” and that the munitions were only “used for screening, obscuring, and marking in a way that fully considers the possible incidental effects on civilians and civilian structures.”

Thousands of civilians died in coalition efforts to retake Raqqa, which also destroyed an estimated 90% of the buildings in the city. Over a year after the operation concluded, many of the dead are still buried under the rubble. This past June, Amnesty International accused the U.S. coalition of “war crimes” in its Raqqa offensive.
