De VS was in feite aan het eind van de Tweede Wereldoorlog (WOII) al losgeslagen van de internationale wet- en regelgeving, maar onder Trump heeft dit land werkelijk alle morele en ethische waarden laten vallen, niet alleen in eigen land maar vooral in het buitenland. Men stelt dat de VS middels de 'rules-based order' (RBO), ook wel aangeduid als 'liberal international order' (LIO) de vrede heeft bewaard sinds WOII, je reinste kul als je ziet hoeveel illegale oorlogen, staatsgrepen en geheime militaire CIA acties de VS sinds die tijd heeft gevoerd..... Het gaat overigens al jaren zover dat je gerust kan stellen dat de VS het Vierde Rijk is met meer dan 800 militaire bases over de wereld, een land dat als gezegd met staatsgrepen, geheime CIA-acties en het beginnen van oorlogen op basis van leugens, sinds 1945 meer dan 25 miljoen mensen heeft vermoord, alleen deze eeuw al meer dan 5 miljoen.... (die illegale oorlogen meestal militair gesteund door 1 of meerdere slaafse NAVO-bondgenoten) Daarnaast heeft dit land aan een fiks aantal landen waaronder Cuba, illegaal sancties opgelegd, die aan een enorme hoeveelheid mensen (en kinderen) het leven hebben gekost, ofwel die daarmee werden vermoord (illegale sancties: niet gesteund door een VN-resolutie)*. Zwaar lullig ook dat de meeste westerse staten, waaronder de onze deze resoluties vrijwel altijd hebben gesteund en steunen, waarmee de opvolgende regeringen ons, het volk van Nederland, in feite medeplichtig hebben gemaakt aan massamoorden.....
Naast het opblazen van bootjes en het vermoorden van de mensen aan boord, die volgens Trump (NB een oorlogsmisdadiger, mede genocide pleger, pedo, belastingontduiker, fraudeur en godbetert president van de VS) drugs zouden hebben vervoerd, zonder daarvoor ook maar 1 bewijs te hebben geleverd, heeft deze opperploert meerdere schepen laten kapen en een terreuraanval laten uitvoeren op Venezuela, een soeverein land..... Als klap op de vuurpijl heeft Trump de president van Venezuela en diens vrouw laten ontvoeren, om deze in de VS te laten berechten op basis van volledig verzonnen zaken, waarbij Trump zelfs stelt dat , de ontvoerde president van Venezuela, de baas zou zijn van een niet bestaand drugskartel....
Het is overduidelijk dat de enorme misdadiger Trump nu zijn zinnen op Cuba heeft gezet waar hij hotels en golfbanen wenst te realiseren. Werkelijk ongelofelijk dat de andere NAVO-lidstaten niet allang enorm protest hebben aangetekend tegen deze ronduit fascistische maatregelen en illegale oorlogsvoering middels enorme terreur van de VS, die daarmee zo ongeveer alle internationale regels aan de laars lapt.... (waarbij sancties ook moeten worden gezien als een vorm van oorlogsvoering die niet zelden meer sterfgevallen opleveren dan oorlogen, ofwel met deze illegale sancties, zoals gezegd gesteund door de meeste andere westerse staten worden enorm veel mensen vermoord.....) Daarmee maken deze westerse staten zich nog meer gehaat in het grootste deel van de wereld, meer dan eerder al het geval was onder leiding van de grootste terreurentiteit ter wereld >> de VS....
Deze westerse staten moeten vooral niet vergeten dat ook zij het doel kunnen worden van tiran Trump, zie wat dat betreft zijn wil om Canada in te lijven als 51ste staat, Groenland in te nemen en van de Latijns-Amerikaanse staten onderdanige vazallen te maken.... Het steunen van de unilaterale VS-sancties (nogmaals >> illegaal!!) door de meeste andere westerse landen, maakt hen medeplichtig aan massamoord, dat moeten regeringsleiders, ministers en staatssecretarissen van die landen vooral niet vergeten omdat ze daarmee vervolgbaar zijn en blijven door het ICC voor massamoord!!! (ICC >> Internationaal Strafhof >> International Criminal Court)
Dan te bedenken dat de NAVO 2 militaire bases heeft in Colombia, naast meerdere militaire bases en vliegvelden waar de VS, in feite de leider van de NAVO, het voor het zeggen heeft en nog meer smerige praktijken in Latijns-Amerika kan voorbereiden....
Ongelofelijk dan ook dat de Latijns-Amerikaanse staten het MERCOSUR verdrag juist nu ook voor EU-deelname hebben opengesteld, een handelsverdrag waarvoor de EU uiteraard heeft onderhandeld o.l.v. hare helleveeg von der Leyen, die het verdrag dan ook heeft getekend.... Met dit verdrag is het zeker dat we nog veel meer gif op ons bord zullen krijgen en waar hare kwaadaardigheid en voorzitter van de Europese commissie von der Leyen af wil van een groot deel van de voedseletikettering, zodat je niet meer kan zien waar producten vandaan komen, of dat ze genetisch zijn gemanipuleerd en al helemaal niet welk landbouwgif is losgelaten op de producten (wat schunnig genoeg nu al niet hoeft....).... Om nog maar helemaal te zwijgen over zwaar dieronvriendelijk houden van dieren en het slachten van die levende wezens, iets dat in de EU bij wijze van spreken toch al 'bij de beesten af is.....' Vleeseters zullen al snel te maken krijgen met kadaveronderdelen die zijn afgeladen met zaken als hormonen.(wellicht een reden te meer voor velen om voorgoed te stoppen met het eten van kadavers en 'zuivel', beiden toch al slecht voor de gezondheid)
Met MERCOSUR hebben de deelnemende Latijns-Amerikaanse staten zich in feite onderworpen aan de westerse staten en zullen daardoor aan de leiband moeten lopen van die al deels fascistisch geleide staten, staten die zelf onderhorig zijn aan de fascistische politiestaat VS, dat zoals eerder aangehaald van heel Latijns-Amerika een vazal wil maken..... Daarmee staat de poort in Latijns-Amerika open voor het invoeren van fascistisch beleid zoals dit al het geval is in Argentinië, Uruguay en Ecuador.... Als eerder aangeduid: de grote onderlaag van deze volkeren zullen een nog grotere hekel aan het westen ontwikkelen dan eerder voor mogelijk werd gehouden!!
Over handelsverdragen gesproken >> Een aantal EU-lidstaten zijn bezig om handelsverdragen af te sluiten met Australië, Aziatische landen en Afrikaanse landen. Wat kunnen en zullen ze nog doen als Trump die landen dreigt met hoge importtarieven of sancties als ze zich houden aan deze handelsverdragen met de EU? Niets!! Dezelfde EU die achter de VS aanliep toen dat land een opstand en een coup organiseerde in Oekraïne, een coup die er tot leidde dat etnische Russen massaal werden vermoord in Oekraïne, na 8 jaar greep Rusland eindelijk in en wat deden de VS en haar slaafse EU-lidstaten daarna? In the stillness of a Havana night, the only sounds are the hum of a generator in a distant hospital and the murmur of a family gathered in candlelight. For them, “US national security” is not an abstract concept debated on American cable news; it is the tangible reality of a 20-hour blackout, the smell of spoiled food, and the fear for a child’s refrigerated medicine. This is the face of a policy that the United States government calls a response to an “extraordinary threat.” The true threat, however, is not military. It is the 67-year defiance of a small island nation that has refused to relinquish its sovereignty.
On 29 January 2026, the Trump administration transformed a long-standing campaign of pressure into a blunt instrument of suffocation. With an executive order, it weaponized the US tariff system against any nation, including countries like Mexico, that dares to sell oil to Cuba. This is no longer about isolating or containing the Cuban people from the rest of the hemisphere; it is a deliberate strategy of total economic asphyxiation, a move unseen in its aggression since the Cold War.
The machinery of suffocation
Cuba’s electrical grid, water pumps, public transport, hospitals, and schools run on imported fuel. By coercing third countries, the US aims not merely to sanction but to disrupt a nation’s very metabolism. The Cuban government’s statement cut to the core: this is “blackmail, threats, and direct coercion” designed to prevent fuel from entering the country. The result is collective punishment, a violation of international law that uses hunger, darkness, and disease as political weapons to break the will of a people.
A constant war: the imperial playbook from Eisenhower to Trump
To call this a “foreign policy” is to undersell its nature. It is an evolving, multilateral instrument of war, relentlessly pursued by ten consecutive US presidencies with a single goal: the destruction of Cuba’s socialist project.
Eisenhower (1960) initiated the aggression with the first blockade after Cuba nationalized US-owned refineries.
Kennedy (1961-1962) escalated with the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, made the blockade total, and greenlit Operation Mongoose, a secret program of sabotage and attempted assassination of Cuban leaders, including over 630 attempts against Fidel Castro.
Clinton (1992-1996) delivered what was hoped to be a “knockout blow” after the Soviet Union’s fall, passing the Torricelli and Helms-Burton Acts. These laws extended the US blockade extraterritorially, punishing foreign companies for trading with Cuba and asserting US authority over global commerce.
Trump (2017-2026), after a fragile thaw under Obama, not only reversed course but plunged deeper into cruelty. He added Cuba back to the “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list, a move widely condemned as political fiction, and enacted 243 new sanctions. His most recent act, the 2026 executive order, seeks to seal the island’s fate by starving it of energy.
The strategy has always been naked in its intent. A declassified 1960 State Department memo by Lester D. Mallory advocated creating “hunger, desperation and overthrow of government” by denying “money and supplies.” The human cost is the point, not a side effect.
The “brutal dilemma” and its human toll
This engineered crisis has measurable, horrific consequences. By the 1990s, the tightened blockade caused a 40% drop in caloric intake and a 48% surge in tuberculosis deaths. Today, it blocks the purchase of medical ventilators, spare parts for water purification, and, crucially, the fuel to power them.
This suffering is framed as a necessary sacrifice by members of the Cuban-American mafia that serve in the US Congress. US Representative Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida, recently articulated the chilling calculus: “It’s devastating to think about a mother’s hunger, a child who needs immediate help… But that is precisely the brutal dilemma we face…: to alleviate short-term suffering or to free Cuba forever.”
This promised “freedom” is a return to the pre-1959 past, when US corporations controlled 80% of Cuba’s public utilities and 70% of all arable land. It is the “freedom” to exploit, purchased with the calculated suffering of an entire generation.
The “Donroe Doctrine”: imperialism unleashed
Trump’s escalation is the cornerstone of his administration’s “Donroe Doctrine,” a 21st-century revival of the 1823 Monroe Doctrine that declares the whole of Latin America and the Caribbean to be US property. Following the illegal attack of 3 January 2026, on Venezuela, Trump stated plainly: “American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never be questioned again.” Under this doctrine, any nation that chooses an independent path, especially one organizing its economy for human need, like Cuba’s world-renowned healthcare system, is deemed a “national emergency”.
The war abroad and the war at home
For the American people, it is critical to see this not as a distant issue but as part of a continuous logic. The same administration that invokes “national emergencies” to strangle Cuba’s economy uses “emergencies” to unleash ICE raids in US cities and kill its own citizens like Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The same mindset that labels 11 million Cubans a collective threat for practicing self-determination labels migrants and minorities as domestic threats. The logic of the blockade and the logic of the border are one and the same: the violent control of populations and resources, and the designation of entire groups of human beings as disposable.
The flickering candle in that Havana home, then, is more than a light against the darkness. It is a defiance of an imperial order. The struggle of the Cuban people to keep their lights on is a fundamental struggle for the right of all peoples to determine their destiny, free from the coercion of an empire that confuses dominance with security and mistakes cruelty for strength. As in the past, Cubans will collectively rise to the challenge in order to not only survive, but overcome the blockade.
