BBC topman waarschuwt dat de BBC haar geloofwaardigheid en reputatie kwijtraakt...... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

De absolute topman van het regeringsgetrouwe en neoliberalisme dienende 'onafhankelijke zendgemachtigde' BBC, Tony Hall heeft ervoor gewaarschuwd dat de BBC haar reputatie verliest (en daarmee haar geloofwaardigheid, Ap)......

De BBC is haar reputatie en geloofwaardigheid vooral verloren na de aanvallen op de Twin Towers in 2001, een terreuraanslag die uitgevoerd werd als false flag operatie, maar dat terzijde...*

Zoals het overgrote deel van de reguliere media ging men mee in de mythe van 'rechtvaardige vergelding' door de VS, het aantal slachtoffers dat viel bij de 'aanslagen' op de Twin Towers staat dan ook al lang niet meer in verhouding tot het aantal moorden dat de VS met hulp van NAVO lidstaten maakte na die aanslagen: intussen meer dan 2,5 miljoen.......... Over 'rechtvaardige vergelding' gesproken.....

Directeur Hall komt geheel toevallig met zijn pleidooi nadat duidelijk is geworden dat van het hele Russiagate verhaal geen bliksem waar is, terwijl zijn BBC dit als een gegeven dag in dag uit noemde, dit met alle negatieve klanken die daarbij horen.......

Echter nee, geen rectificatie van Hall, zoals al zijn collega's onder de commerciële en publieke zendgemachtigden en de rest van de reguliere westerse media er het zwijgen toe doen na alle bergen leugens en fake news die men bracht..... Hooguit sputtert men nog wat na met gelul dat het rapport niet openbaar is, even vergetend dat Mueller het van de daken had geschreeuwd als Trump foute connecties met de Russen had onderhouden tijdens de verkiezingen.....

Hall doet net of hij een natuurverschijnsel in betere banen moet leiden, zoals een rivier intomen die keer op keer veel te grote gebieden onder water zet, terwijl het beleid werd, wordt en zal worden gevoerd vanuit de top van de BBC, waar hij de zoals gezegd absolute topfunctie vervuld, tegen een godsvermogen aan inkomen en nogmaals: ten laste van de Britse belastingbetaler.......

De BBC die haar geloofwaardigheid en reputatie kwijtraakt? ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Die zaken is de BBC al dik meer dan 17 jaar kwijt (en zelfs daarvoor was de BBC behoorlijk regeringsgezind, niet zo gek als je ziet dat de BBC afhankelijk was en is van overheidssubsidie.....) 

De BBC is verworden tot een propagandaorgaan tegen Rusland, China, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela en lobbyt voor de regering May, het militair-industrieel complex, de NAVO het uiterst agressieve en bloedige VS buitenlandbeleid en ga nog maar even door....... De middelen die de BBC daarvoor gebruikt zijn: nepnieuws (fake news), desinformatie, ronduit leugens, haatzaaien (zoals tegen Corbyn), angstzaaien (voor Rusland, China en socialisten), of zelfs door zaken in het geheel niet te noemen.......

BBC director general Tony Hall has warned that the publicly funded broadcaster is losing its reputation. Hall, who occupies the most powerful position at the BBC, said that people’s perceptions of BBC impartiality “have weakened in recent years”. He then added that the broadcaster’s leadership needs “to see what we can do to strengthen them”.

“We must stand up for it”

In the BBC‘s annual plan, Hall continued on impartiality:

We must stand up for it and defend our role like never before. It is essential if we are to continue to be the place people know they can trust to get to grips with what is truly happening in the world, and to hear the broadest range of views

The director general echoes political editor Laura Kuenssberg, who in December 2016 said:

I would die in a ditch for the impartiality of the BBC.

Supporting Hall’s claims of a weakened perception of BBC impartiality, Kuenssberg has long faced allegations of bias. In May 2016, a petition to remove her for alleged pro-Conservative reporting gained 35,000 signatures in a handful of days. She also stood accused of biased coverage of the 2016 UK local elections.

There are many other examples of the discontent Hall speaks of. For instance, in August 2018, thousands of people joined an online campaign to switch off the BBC for its alleged smearing of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Earlier in March, Hall also claimed:

The phrase, ‘mainstream media’, is now a term of abuse – used by people of all political persuasions. Traditional journalism is painted as part of the problem rather than the solution. This really worries me.

Jeremy Corbyn en de lastercampagne van de publieke 'onafhankelijke' zender BBC in aanloop van de verkiezingen.....

Afgelopen zaterdag ontving ik van The Canary een Twitterbericht met een verwijzing naar een artikel over een optreden van Jeremy Corbyn bij de BBC.

Zoals gewoonlijk wordt er weer grof gelogen op de BBC als het om Jeremy Corbyn gaat....... Laura Kuenssberg van de BBC liegt er (niet erg vrolijk) op los. Corbyn zal en mag de verkiezingen niet winnen. Te zot voor woorden dat het zogenaamde deskundigen als Kees Boonman het laatste jaar niet is opgevallen, dat zelfs de 'onafhankelijke' BBC een lastercampagne voerde en voert tegen Corbyn, of hem op andere momenten eenvoudigweg doodzwijgt.

Een beter voorbeeld, als het optreden van Kuenssberg is er bijna niet te vinden, ontluisterend het gore lef waarmee deze oplichter haar leugens met een 'serieuze' rotkop op durft te lepelen.......... Kuenssberg durft zich journalist te noemen, zoals de BBC zich als 'onafhankelijk' durft te afficheren.........

Overigens staat er een kapitale fout in het artikel van the Canary, waar wordt beweert, dat de minister van Defensie in april jl. als eerste met de Britse doctrine rond kernwapens zou hebben gebroken en gezegd zou hebben dat GB niet zal aarzelen om als eerste naar het atoomwapen te grijpen........ Dit deed hare kwaadaardigheid en opperploert May al vrij kort nadat ze vorig jaar als premier aantrad, na het opstappen van Cameron...... May gaf e.e.a. te kennen in navolging van de VS (onder Obama!!)........

De pers besteedde hier amper of geen aandacht aan, pas toen Putin werd gevraagd wat daarvan te denken en deze antwoordde dat bij een nucleaire aanval op Rusland, hij niet zal twijfelen om dan terug te slaan, stond de reguliere westerse afhankelijke massamedia op de kop van verontwaardiging (over die 'volkomen normale' uitlating van Putin..).......

There’s something very wrong with Laura Kuenssberg’s response to Corbyn’s performance on BBC Question Time

Laura Kuenssberg’s response to BBC Question Time’s Leaders’ Debate was extraordinary. Because she completely made up a story about the debate in an apparent attempt to prove her point.

Her point, of course, was to suggest Jeremy Corbyn struggled in the debate. Whereas Theresa May’s performance marked the start of her campaign’s recovery, after “a bumpy few days”. But that point is as much fiction as the story she made up to prove it.

Corbyn cracking?

Kuenssberg reported that the audience “pressed” both leaders in their “areas of vulnerability” on the Question Time special on 2 June. They pushed May on domestic issues. Particularly, on the cuts in the NHS, social care, education and more.

In contrast, Kuenssberg said, the audience confronted Corbyn on security issues, like the use of nuclear weapons. The BBC’s Political Editor said Corbyn’s “unwillingness to use weapons if Britain was under attack” didn’t go down well with the audience. This interpretation is, however, untrue. Corbyn did not say he wouldn’t use nuclear weapons. He said there would be “no first use” of them, meaning he wouldn’t start a nuclear war. Also, he said, in terms of a retaliatory attack, he would “decide in the circumstances at the time”.

Kuenssberg then concluded that while May seemed more on the “front foot” in the programme, Corbyn’s experience was less positive:

“In contrast, Jeremy Corbyn who had been lapping up the political attention, and setting much of the momentum, seemed almost irritated by the end.”

The “irritation” Kuenssberg speaks of didn’t exist. In fact, when presenter David Dimbleby told Corbyn it was the end of his Q&A session, he smiled and said:

“But I’ve got so much more to say!”

And he received applause and cheers for his contribution.

Getting real

Importantly, Corbyn’s refusal to use nuclear weapons in a first strike capacity is something that should give us all more security. And this is shown in what would happen in the event of a nuclear tit-for-tat war.

In April, Defence Secretary Michael Fallon broke with UK convention and said he would not hesitate to fire nuclear weapons in a first strike. As a minister who has also increased the chances of a nuclear confrontation with Russia, The Canary looked into what would happen should Fallon act on his first strike rhetoric and carry out a Trident nuclear strike on that country. Here’s what we found:

“There’s limited information about Trident’s force. But commentators say that today’s nuclear weapons are around seven to eight times more powerful than the atomic bomb the US used on Hiroshima in 1945. That bomb killed 140,000 people. And Trident can allegedly travel up to 7,500 miles. So it could reach Russia and kill masses of civilians.

But Russia… has 7,000 nuclear warheads; of which 4,500 are either deployed or stockpiled. That’s around 33 times more warheads than the UK has. And Russia’s weapons will be just as powerful, if not more so. Take the Satan 2 missile as an example. It can allegedly carry up to a dozen warheads and level an area the size of the UK in one hit. The UK has a population of around 65 million people.

And if that sort of nuclear conflict kicked off, the US would surely join the fray, with its 6,800 warheads. The US has just over 4,000 of these deployed or stockpiled.

This would be a global catastrophe.”

QT Winner?

The very real threat of a nuclear war commencing between the world’s larger nuclear powers, and the destruction that would bring, is why the audience gave one particular commentator the biggest applause of the night:

The BBC‘s round-up of audience members who ‘stole the show’ listed this woman’s comment last. But that’s more a reflection on the BBC than the country at large. Because most people surely don’t want the catastrophe detailed here to play out. And now they have a politician standing for Prime Minster who’s determined to avoid a conflict that could see the UK lying at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean.

If that’s not an option people want, then we’re in a desperate place indeed.

BBC: propaganda-orgaan voor het neoliberalistische beleid van de conservatieven

Gisteren op het blog van Stan van Houcke een artikel van the Canary, dat op 6 mei vorig jaar werd gepubliceerd. Het handelt hier over wie macht uitoefent via de BBC, de publieke Britse omroep, die intussen gerust een gezwel kan worden genoemd, als je alle aftakkingen in het buitenland ziet, zoals die in Canada.

Op dit blog heeft u al vaak kunnen lezen, over de propaganda die de BBC dag in dag uitstort over het Britse publiek, neem de Brexit of de enorme hoeveelheid leugens over de strijd in Aleppo (en het weglaten van feiten, zoals de terreur die de 'gematigde rebellen' uitoefende op de bevolking in Oost-Aleppo....)........

The sorry facts which show the BBC has moved beyond bias, into pure propaganda

EDITORIAL

The BBC and its political editor Laura Kuenssberg are under fire this week, following local election coverage which has been dismissed as nothing short of propaganda by people across the country. But how did we get here?

Who runs the BBC?

The current abysmal state of BBC News and Politics makes much more sense when you see who has been appointed to plot its editorial course.

The BBC Trust is responsible for granting licenses to all BBC outlets and stations, managing value for money on licence fee payments and ‘the direction of BBC editorial and creative output’. The Trust consists of 12 Trustees and is headed by Rona Fairhead – who also happens to have been a longtime board member of HSBC bank.

As The Canary’s James Wright reported earlier this year:

Fairhead has entrenched ties to the Tory government. In fact, she and Osborne are old friends. Fairhead worked for the Conservative government as a cabinet office member, until being appointed by the previous Conservative culture secretary – Sajid Javid – as the new head of the BBC Trust. She is still business ambassador for David Cameron.

Fairhead has also sat on the board of HSBC directors for a long time. And what is even more shocking than her other Conservative links are claims that she was actually appointed chairwoman of the BBC Trust to keep a lid on Cameron’s involvement in covering up a £1bn fraudulent HSBC scam on British shoppers. Whistle-blower Nicholas Wilson made various freedom of information requests that confirmed that Fairhead’s appointment did not follow proper procedure. She was rushed to the position after the application date closed, with no mention of her on any contemporary media shortlist.

Her appointment does not coincide with the normal process, and many questioned why a business tycoon was right for the job. What it did coincide with was a string of interconnected visits from the BBC, HSBC, the Houses of Parliament and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to Wilson’s website where he details the scam and the FCA and Cameron’s involvement in covering it up.

But the conflicts of interest do not stop at Fairhead.

The Director of News and Current Affairs at the BBC, James Harding, is a former employee of the Murdoch Press. While Editor of The Times newspaper, he was responsible for exposing the identity of police blogger NightJack by hacking the blogger’s email accounts – which his legal team then covered up during a court case against the action. Harding has also gone on the record as ‘pro Israel’.

This is the calibre of the figures responsible for hiring the news teams, presenters and journalists who will report on matters of hacking, privacy, and the Middle East.

These are not trivial conflicts of interests. The two individuals primarily responsible for driving the News and Politics agenda for the BBC, are instead driving forward their personal and professional causes – and the licence fee payer is footing the bill.

What is the impact on reporting?

These conflicts of interest affect the reporting of News and Politics at the BBC in a very real way. In 2013, researchers at Cardiff University undertook a major content analysis of BBC coverage – funded in part by the BBC Trust. They studied the impartiality of BBC reporting across several areas, including the Israel-Palestine conflict, the EU, business and economics, and politics.

The findings revealed that:

• Whichever party is in power, the Conservative party is granted more air time.
• On BBC News at Six, business representatives outnumbered trade union spokespersons by more than five to one (11 vs 2) in 2007 and by 19 to one in 2012.
• When it comes to the Financial Crisis, BBC coverage was almost completely dominated by stockbrokers, investment bankers, hedge fund managers and other City voices. Civil society voices or commentators who questioned the benefits of having such a large finance sector were almost completely absent from coverage.

On top of this, BBC reporting of Israel-Palestine has been woefully partisan – and in 2013, we found out one reason why.

In 2013, a devastating report by Electronic Intifada, revealed that Raffi Berg, online editor for BBC News, was instructing journalists to skew reports on Israel-Palestine in favour of Israel. While hundreds of Palestinians were losing their lives during Israel’s eight day assault on the Gaza strip in 2012, Berg was emailing journalists with ‘guidance’ to maintain a pro-Israel tone in their reports. This from the report:

In one, he asked BBC colleagues to word their stories in a way which does not blame or “put undue emphasis” on Israel for starting the prolonged attacks. Instead, he encouraged journalists to promote the Israeli government line that the “offensive” was “aimed at ending rocket fire from Gaza.”

This was despite the fact that Israel broke a ceasefire when it attacked Gaza on 14 November, a ceasefire which the Palestinians had been observing — firing no rockets into Israel.

In a second email, sent during the same period, Berg told BBC journalists:

“Please remember, Israel doesn’t maintain a blockade around Gaza. Egypt controls the southern border.”

He omitted to mention that the United Nations views Israel as the occupying power in Gaza and has called on Israel to end its siege of the Strip. Israel’s refusal to do so is a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1860.”

Berg is still in his role.

All that’s left is propaganda

Recently, these two vested interests – pro-neoliberalism and pro-Israel – converged on an area of common interest: opposition to Jeremy Corbyn.

This united bitter Blairites, Conservatives and pro-Israel groups – who ran perhaps the most toxic smear campaign against the Labour party and its leader in living memory. In the run up to the local elections on May 5, the headlines across the BBC and wider media’s flagship television and radio programs was not the 1 million people in the UK reliant on food banks to eat, but the intrigue of the smear campaign.

Prior to the elections, the reporting by Kuenssberg was dominated almost exclusively by claims of crisis within Labour, providing a platform to a minority of bitter Blairites, and applying pressure on Corbyn to stand aside – or at the very least prepare to.

On Friday morning – when Corbyn’s vote had not collapsed, but increased, compared to Miliband’s general election performance of 2015 – there was no apology for the wrongful prediction. Instead, the narrative wheeled on regardless. While the SNP lost their majority in Scotland, and Labour advanced in England and Wales – this was the BBC website’s response.

The situation brings to mind the moment when the BBC’s Andrew Marr interviewed Noam Chomsky about the role of the mainstream media as a propaganda service. Chomsky was discussing the role of self-censorship by journalists, and Marr repudiated the claim, asking:

“How can you know if I am self-censoring?” Arguing he had never been censored, or told what to think.

Chomsky calmly responds, as if he were explaining the non-existence of Santa Claus to a child:

“I’m sure you believe everything you’re saying, but what I’m saying is that if you believed something different, you wouldn’t be sitting where you’re sitting.”

And therein lies the rub with the role of the BBC, and the wider mainstream media, as a vehicle by which to advance the causes of those who own and run them. There is a monopoly of wealth and power in our society which translates directly into a monopoly of the media. The result is a staggering lack of diversity and pluralism of voices and opinions in the mainstream space. The media has become little more than a monotonous, relentless monologue – when as a country, and a world, we need to be having a conversation.
