Dierenmishandeling >> 'Kweekvis', de gruwelijke manier waarop deze dieren worden vermoord

Het kweken van vis moet stoppen, kreeg afgelopen maandag een petitie van Compassion In World Farming (CIWF), over het houden van vis op intensieve basis, 'zeg maar' de intensieve martelviskweek........ De wantoestanden in deze dierhouderij is nog veel gruwelijker dan die voor zoogdieren...... Ook in deze viskweek worden grote hoeveelheden antibiotica gebruikt, zodat ook deze walgelijke dierhouderij bijdraagt aan de antibioticaresistentie........

Dieren als koeien kunnen nog schreeuwen als ze worden vermoord of schreeuwen al op het terrein van de slachterij, daar ze door het ruiken van bloed weten dat hun eind er aan komt, zelfs dat kunnen vissen niet..... Deze dieren kunnen zelfs nog een tijd leven als ze worden ingevroren, de pijn bij het slachten van deze dieren, waarbij hun ingewanden ruw worden verwijderd (terwijl ze nog leven), moet een onbeschrijfelijk gruwelijke en uiterst pijnlijke gebeurtenis zijn voor deze arme dieren......

Intussen wordt vis, kril en ander zeeleven misbruikt voor de kul die men visolie noemt, vergeet niet dat dit voedsel is voor walvissen en pinguïns en de hoeveelheid van dat voedsel gestaag terugloopt, niet alleen door menselijk leegvissen van zeeën en oceanen, maar ook door de klimaatverandering (die nooit eerder zo snel is verlopen, deze opwarming wordt dan ook door de mens veroorzaakt..).......

Mensen lees de petitie, teken deze ajb en geeft het door! (en stop ajb met het eten van vis en vlees, vis bevat bovendien al jaren veel gif als kwik en andere kankerzooi, maar door het steeds verder ophogen van de toegestane hoeveelheden gif, kan het 'eten van vis nog steeds geen kwaad...')

Millions of fish are silently suffering in vast underwater factory farms across Europe. And out of sight, fish fight for their lives when being killed in ways so painful they are illegal according to European Law. These fish need your help

Compassion in World Farming recently sent undercover investigators to fish farms across Europe. We discovered fish like sea bass, sea bream and trout being kept in appalling conditions.

Confined to concrete tanks on land or in floating ocean nets by the thousands, these fish spend their short, miserable lives swimming in cramped waters where disease and parasites can thrive. Dead fish were found floating in tanks as live ones swam around them.

Equally shocking is the cruel way fish are killed. Sea bass and sea bream are commonly dumped into large buckets of ice slurry, where they thrash about, fighting for their lives, as ice gets lodged in their gills and they struggle to breathe. They can remain conscious throughout this ordeal, and many are still alive when they are packaged for sale.

Our team also witnessed trout flailing about in pools of bloody water after having their throats cut, a clear sign that the stunning system wasn’t working properly. This kind of suffering is illegal according to European law, which mandates animals should not suffer unnecessarily while being killed.

Not all European countries farm sea bass, sea bream and trout, but these fish are found on supermarket shelves across the continent. There are producers, like some in the UK and Netherlands, who are using more humane slaughter methods for fish but these practices need to be written into national legislation and cover all species.

Please, write to your Agricultural Minister, asking them to introduce national legislation protecting fish at their time of death.

Just like other farmed animals, fish are sentient. These intelligent, sensitive animals are capable of feeling immense pain, and they desperately need you to speak up on their behalf.

It’stime for us to Rethink Fish.

Visolie: de mensparasiet >> nu ook krill voor walvissen en pinguïns in voedsel voor de mens.......

De mens vist de oceanen meer en meer leeg en verziekt het leefklimaat voor de dieren daarin, niet alleen middels de door de mens veroorzaakte klimaatverandering, of de enorme plastic vervuiling, dumpen van chemisch afval (zoals zwaar vervuild water van fracken in de VS), maar ook middels vervuiling door olieboringen, het vergaan van schepen, de vervuiling door clandestien geloosde olie, gif en vuilnis dat van schepen in zee wordt gedonderd...... (en er zijn nog meer voorbeelden te noemen, zoals lozingen van riolen...)

Alsof dit alles niet genoeg is om schijtziek van te worden, hebben een aantal schoften bedacht om krill te verwerken in voedingsolie voor de mens, terwijl walvissen en pinguïns afhankelijk zijn van deze minuscuul kleine zeedieren...... Niet dat de mens deze nodig heeft, er zijn meer dan voldoende alternatieven te vinden voor omega 3, waarvan 'de gezonde werking' trouwens zwaar ter discussie staat....... 

Het Britse levensmiddelenketen Holland & Barrett heeft de varianten voor de olie van krill NB naast de alternatieven staan, alternatieven die niet ten koste gaan van andere levensvormen op onze kleine aarde.........

Het spul vindt gretig aftrek, dus reken maar dat binnenkort ook de Nederlandse kruideniersketens deze olie gaat verkopen (wellicht staan deze daar al, geen idee)...... In de Noordelijke Atlantische oceaan is de krill al op haar retour, dit door menselijk handelen (o.a. de opwarming van de aarde).....

Nogmaals: de mens is ziek, doodziek en sleept alles en ieder dier mee de afgrond in.......

Stop het gebruik van visolie of krillolie, of andere producten met omega 3, er zijn alternatieven te over!

In the Antarctic, all life, from the giant blue whale to a newborn penguin, depend on one tiny creature: krill. These quirky, shrimp-like crustaceans are one of the Antarctic's most important species. Without krill, most life forms in the Antarctic would vanish.


But right now, Antarctic krill is being sucked out of the Antarctic Ocean, pulped into oil, and sold as a health supplement on UK shelves.This rapidly growing, multi-million dollar industry is threatening to upset the delicate balance of the Antarctic ecosystem.


The UK is the fourth largest krill oil market globally. Holland & Barrett are one of the biggest sellers of krill oil products, even stocking their own krill brand. 


Holland & Barrett has the power to influence the krill industry to stop fishing in areas that need to be protected. But they'll only do it if they have thousands of people call on them to stand up and defend the Antarctic.


Email Holland & Barrett's CEO and tell him to make sure the products on their shelves aren't putting sensitive Antarctic waters at risk.

Holland & Barrett cares deeply about their public image. They've spent a lot of time and money promoting themselves as a healthy and planet-loving company. But by selling krill products sourced from delicate parts of the Antarctic, Holland & Barrett are undermining their reputation as an environmentally friendly brand.


Our recent report reveals that the krill industry is already fishing right next to penguin colonies and whale feeding grounds - the same areas scientists and governments say we need to protect [1]. Animals in the Antarctic are already facing pressures from a changing climate. The last thing they need is additional strains on their food supply.


Holland & Barrett can influence their suppliers to stop fishing in areas that need to be protected. With their help, the krill industry will hear loud and clear that the Antarctic waters are ours to protect - not theirs to exploit.

PS: Although krill oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids, there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan alternatives to krill. Holland & Barrett even sells them right next to their Antarctic krill oil products.

Adorable Penguin Swims 5,000 Miles Each Year to Visit the Man Who Rescued Him

Talk about gratitude.

How far would you swim to reunite with the person who saved your life? For one penguin who found himself in a sticky situation (literally), the answer is approximately 5,000 miles.

Have you heard about the Magellanic Penguin and retired bricklayer in Brazil who have struck up a unique friendship?

Joao Pereira de Souza lives in a fishing village just outside Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2011 he found a tiny penguin lying on some rocks at his local beach. The creature was covered in oil and close to death.

Joao cleaned the penguin, nursed him back to health, and named him Dindim. Joao tried releasing the penguin, presumably never to meet again, but Dindim wasn’t ready to leave just yet. Joao recalls, “He stayed with me for 11 months and then, just after he changed his coat with new feathers, he disappeared.”

But that was not the last time the two would meet. So the story goes, over the past five years, Dindim has spent many months of the year with Joao and some believe he spends the rest of the time breeding off the coast of Argentina and Chile.

Joao told Globo TV, “I love the penguin like it’s my own child and I believe the penguin loves me.” Apparently, no one else is permitted to touch Dindim, besides Joao, of course. Dindim lets Joao give him showers, feed and pick him up.

That’s quite a heartwarming story, eh?

According to Penguin World, the Magellanic Penguin is the only migratory, offshore-foraging species in its genus. Some move as far north as Peru and Brazil in winter. So a penguin hanging out at a Brazilian fishing village is not necessarily as wild and crazy as it may sound.

I wonder though; is having a human ‘bff’ in any way a detriment to this wild penguin’s welfare?

We know that there are health and emotional benefits of human-animal interactions. But we also know that wild animals belong in the wild and when humans try to change that, tragedy happens.

Still, a recent study found that ecotourism — which some claim can be dangerous to animal species in general —“might be less harmful to larger birds than previously thought because larger animals are more likely to be able to tolerate human disturbance.” A key finding from the study: “Larger birds are more tolerant of humans than smaller birds.”

Daniel Blumstein, the study’s senior author and a member of the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, explained, “This new finding flips previous recommendations about large-bodied species being more vulnerable to the presence of humans, and shows that large-bodied species are more tolerant.” He added, “It is likely costly for animals to respond fearfully to people that are not harming them.”

Interesting indeed, but to get the full picture, you should read the complete study.

As for the heartwarming bond between Joao and Dindim, to further explore whether this relationship is in any way harmful to the penguin, I turned to International Bird Rescue, an organization that has pioneered oiled aquatic bird care.

There I connected with Barbara Callahan, International Bird Rescue’s Response Services Director, who had just left Brazil where she was working with their partner organization, Aiuká Consultoria em Soluções Ambientais. Callahan suggested I connect with the Projects Director of Aiuká, Valeria Ruoppolo, who has been following this case.

About the unusual human-penguin friendship, Ruoppolo told me, “There is no harm really, but that is excluding the fact that the animal is being fed while on shore and that is why it does not go away.”

Takes a bit of wind out of the friendship sail, but what do you expect? It’s hard for anyone to turn down free lunch.

In terms of where exactly the penguin goes when not with Mr. Joao, Ruoppolo believes the media thus far has gotten it wrong. “Once it decides to go, the animal clearly knows where it is going back to, but in my opinion it does not go back south to Argentina as I have seen all over the media.”

Her theory? “The penguin is generally away for 4 months and it probably feeds and swims around south and southeastern Brazil when it decides to go back to Mr. Joao.”
