Horens worden afgesneden, verbrand en afgescheurd: onverdoofde behandeling van vee in West-Australië

Weer een staaltje dierenmishandeling waarvan je haren recht overeind gaan staan : de veeteelt doodsindustrie in het westen van Australië brand, snijdt en scheurt de horens af van vee.......

Om meer dieren in een veel te klein afgerasterd stuk land te kunnen proppen, of tegelijk te kunnen melken, of door de gangen te jagen richting dood in een slachthuis of in schepen of vrachtwagens te jagen voor vervoer naar elders (zoals naar Israël, zie de hierboven opgenomen link), snijdt, brandt en scheurt men horens van runderen af en dat slechts in 15% van de gevallen met een verdoving (en dat vaak alleen voor dieren van een half jaar of ouder, alsof jonge dieren geen pijn voelen >> wat een barbaarse dierenbeulen!!)...... Een aantal van de dieren overlijdt zelfs door deze barbaarse inhumane behandeling.......

Het Care2 team blundert in deze petitie toch een paar keer, zo stelt men dat het verstandig kan zijn om de horens van vee te verwijderen, daar dieren elkaar kunnen verwonden, echter daarbij vergeet het team dat dit alleen gebeurt in plekken waar men veel te veel vee bij elkaar houdt (nogmaals zie de hierboven opgenomen link) en/of waar men zo snel mogelijk en zoveel mogelijk vee tegelijk wil melken of wil afvoeren...... 

Bovendien zou het Care2 team toch vooral moeten pleiten voor het zo snel mogelijk opdoeken van de intensieve martelveehouderij, immers door het blijven eten van vlees en gebruik van zuivel wordt onze leefwereld om zeep geholpen*, dit nog naast het feit dat vlees en zuivel zonder meer slecht zijn voor een groot aantal organen in het menselijk lichaam.....  Echter boven het voorgaande gaat toch het enorme dierenleed dat deze arme dieren wordt aangedaan, dieren die gemiddeld niet eens een vijfde van hun levensduur mogen bestaan.....

Deze zaak is echter ernstig genoeg, dus lees en teken de petitie ajb en geeft het door!!

These Cattle Can Feel Everything As Their Horns Are Cut, Burned, or Ripped Off

Animal welfare laws are so vague, it's actually legal to rip off the horns of young cattle without giving them pain relief. This must change!
 

An industry is only as good as the way it treats its animals. By this logic, the cattle farming industry in Western Australia (WA) is abhorrent.

Footage shot by brave activists from the animal rights organization Sentient showed countless cattle in WA facilities being dehorned aggressively and without any medical pain relief. The cattle screamed and struggled as their horns were sliced and pulled from their heads. The lucky ones without complications would be left disoriented and traumatized. The less fortunate would later suffer and die with the sun beating down on them. 

Sign the petition calling for the Western Australia to make pain relief mandatory during all dehorning procedures!

The dehorning of cattle is a reasonable practice if done humanely. Cattle often injure each other with their horns inadvertently, so horn removal promotes herd safety and health. But in Western Australia, the practice is highly unregulated. Words like "should" are littered throughout the code of animal welfare. One section states that painkillers are only suggested for cattle older than six months old. Why on earth would the youngest, most vulnerable cattle be put through the most pain?
 
All cattle, no matter what age, should have their pain alleviated during dehorning.

Only about 15% of the industry's producers use painkillers at all. If you watch the footage for yourself, you can hear countless workers claiming that painkillers and vets are too inconvenient and expensive to use. If cattle farmers cannot go to the trouble of treating their animals with decency, they should find a new job.  

Enough is enough. Sign the petition and make sure that Western Australia's Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development create real regulations granting all cattle pain relief during dehorning!

YouTube staat leugens toe van klimaat-sceptici

Het Care2 team is op een smal en gevaarlijk pad bezig: het team eist dat YouTube de samenzweringstheorieën verwijdert die gericht zijn tegen het afremmen van de klimaatverandering, ofwel klimaatsceptici die hun leugens posten op YouTube moeten daaraf gehaald worden door dit platform.....

Het voorgaande waar YouTube rustig video's verwijdert van echte deskundigen als deze niet passen in de huidige inhumane neoliberale maatschappij, of die ingaan tegen de belangen van de grote bedrijven als farmaceuten, zo werd onlangs een video verwijderd van een arts (met veel dienstjaren) die volkomen terecht wees op de foute behandeling van Coronapatiënten..... 

De petitie dient een uitstekende zaak, echter de woorden die het Care2 team gebruikt zijn op z'n zachtst gezegd over de rand.... Immers samenzweringstheorieën zijn voor het grootste deel bepaald geen onzin en berusten meestal simpelweg op de waarheid. Niet voor niets dat de term samenzweringstheorie door de CIA werd uitgevonden en gebruikt om bijvoorbeeld klokkenluiders het zwijgen op te leggen, immers men heeft uit en te na gepropageerd dat samenzweringstheorieën van 'gekkies' komen en zo de massa's in slaap gehouden.....

Samenzweringstheorieën moeten niet worden gecensureerd, censuur van niet gewenste informatie leidt op den duur tot totale censuur, die in feite alleen in een dictatuur thuishoort!!! Ofwel censuur is de opmaat naar het instellen van een dictatuur.......

Uiteraard is het doel van het Care2 team gerechtvaardigd: zo min mogelijk verweer tegen klimaatmaatmaatregelen, echter de manier waarop is zoals gezegd uiterst dubieus. Verder kan je stellen dat je het best feiten kan opsommen tegen dergelijke leugens en deze daarmee neutraliseren.......

Met tegenzin heb ik deze petitie niet getekend, hoewel het doel uiterst legitiem is. Lees de volgende tekst en beslis zelf:

Human-induced climate change is not up for debate — the evidence is undeniable. UN scientists have made it clear that the time for action is now, purporting that we have only ten years to curb the world's emissions drastically, or we will reach the point of no return.

And yet YouTube is giving a platform and free advertising to these outrageous videos that spew misinformation. The site is directly contributing to public confusion and fear that makes it harder to enact desperately needed changed. Genitale verminking op 100 meisjes uitgevoerd door artsen in de VS niet bestraft.....

Om kotsmisselijk van te worden, het bericht dat artsen in de VS op minstens 100 meisjes genitale verminking hebben uitgevoerd, ofwel ze hebben meisjes besneden (waarbij de clitoris wordt verwijderd; hoe gestoord moet je als arts zijn om iets dergelijks te doen??)...... Dacht dat artsen een eed moeten afleggen waarmee ze verklaren zich in te zetten voor de gezondheid van mensen die hun hulp zoeken vanwege een aandoening (of die nu fysiek of geestelijk is), blijkbaar is die tijd al lang voorbij..... Nogmaals: hoe kan een arts een genitale verminking uitvoeren bij meisjes, zodat hun seksuele beleving voor de rest van het leven enorm beperkt zal zijn, terwijl er geen enkele medische noodzaak is om een dergelijke schunnige ingreep te doen.....

Vreemd overigens dit getal van 100 meisjes, immers als je zoekt naar dit onderwerp kom je een fiks aantal artikelen tegen die over verschillende gevallen en aantallen gaan, waar dat getal van 100 overigens wel terugkomt, maar dat is het bericht waar Care2 een petitie voor op poten zette (november/december 2018). De artsen die verantwoordelijk waren voor de 100 meisjes die Care2 noemt, zijn vrijgesproken door de rechter in de VS, ofwel deze artsen voeren hun misdadige praktijken nog steeds uit, dus het aantal van 100 is zeker gestegen en waarschijnlijk meer dan verdubbeld!! (zo meer over de petitie van Care2)

Overigens geloof maar niet dat e.e.a. niet in Nederland gebeurt, al zal geen arts meewerken aan het besnijden van meisjes, zijn er buiten de officiële gezondheidszorg mafketels die dergelijke barbaarse ingrepen doen, zonder dat ze enige medische opleiding hebben en bijvoorbeeld geen hygiënische manier van werken kennen....... Voorts worden Nederlandse meisjes nog steeds genetisch verminkt als ze op vakantie zijn in het moederland van één van de ouders...... Vergeet niet dat meer dan 90% van de besneden meisjes hun leven lang pijn hebben en zeker in arme landen vaak overlijden tijdens het bevallen (de vagina wordt met grote regelmaat verkleind door deze deels dicht te naaien.....)

De hoogste tijd dat overtreders en daar versta ik ook de ouders onder, lange gevangenisstraffen (minstens 8 jaar) worden opgelegd als ze door de mand vallen, waarbij de ouders uit de ouderlijke macht moeten worden gezet en dat zou meteen ook voor de eventuele andere kinderen moeten gelden..... Als je dit als ouder toestaat ben je totaal ongeschikt nog een kind groot te brengen!!

Het Care2 team heeft 'Zero Tolerance Day', afgelopen donderdag aangegrepen om dit feit nogmaals in de openbaarheid te brengen (voor de tweede keer). Jammer dat men bij Care2 niet meteen heeft aangegeven of de petitie uit 2018 nog openstaat, ik heb deze destijds getekend. Op Facebook staat dat je deze nog kan tekenen, echter ben zoals gezegd niet zeker of deze nog openstaat, hier de link naar deze petitie,  als deze gesloten is staat dit daar aangegeven, helaas kan ik die pagina niet meer bereiken om dit te controleren, daar ik al getekend heb. Als je nog kan tekenen doe dan dan ajb en geeft het door! (gezien de tekst van het Care2 team, ben ik bang dat de petitie al is gesloten, vind het daarom vreemd dat Care2 niet een nieuwe petitie is gestart, dit onderwerp is het meer dan waard!)

Voorts ben ik van mening dat ook genetische verminking van jongens, anders dan uit medische noodzaak, afgelopen moet zijn! Te zot voor woorden dat deze ingrepen in Nederlandse ziekenhuizen worden uitgevoerd.....

Besnijdenis van meisjes en jongens gaat niet alleen volledig in tegen de kinderrechten, maar is in feite ook een misdaad tegen de menselijkheid!!

Back in 1996, Congress passed a federal law banning FGM, defined as the partial or complete removal of the labia majora, labia minora, or clitoris. But then, in November 2018, a federal judge ruled that the ban was unconstitutional.

This ruling means that future doctors will not be dissuaded from performing these atrocities as there would be no legal repercussions. Worse yet, the doctors involved in the November 2018 case who mutilated over 100 girls are still practicing medicine. This is dangerous and deplorable. Ontving afgelopen week een petitie van het Care2 team, een bericht dat ik te lang heb laten liggen, daar de klimaatconferentie in Polen vandaag de laatste dag ingaat. Al zou er nog langer onderhandeld worden, daar er zoals gewoonlijk weer geen maatregelen zullen worden voorgesteld die er echt toe doen. Mijn excuus voor het laten liggen van deze petitie.

In een verontrustend 'Carbon Majors Report', opgesteld door het Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) en het Climate Accountability Institute (CAI), wordt gesteld dat 100 bedrijven verantwoordelijk zijn voor 71% van de wereldwijde CO2 uitstoot...... 

Niet moeilijk te raden wie de belangrijkste bedrijven zijn die voor de enorme uitstoot aan CO2 zorgen: de oliemaatschappijen en de grote kolenboeren van de VS en Australië.

Lullig toch dat zelfs het Care2 team zich laat ringeloren met cijfers die al lang zijn achterhaald, zo haalt dit team het cijfer van 4 graden Celsius aan als stijging van de temperatuur op aarde tegen het eind van deze eeuw, als de komende 28 jaar de uitstoot hetzelfde blijft. Terwijl duidelijk is dat die 4 graden zelfs gehaald zal worden als we vandaag alles uit de la zouden halen en de uitstoot drastisch zouden verlagen......... 

Dit is uiteraard fantasie, het meest lullige is wel dat de grootste vervuilers mogen deelnemen aan de klimaattop in Polen, terwijl de groepen van milieu activisten als Greenpeace, maar voor een heel klein deel aan mogen zitten bij de besprekingen, precies zoals dit tijdens de klimaattop van Parijs het geval was..... Destijds mochten de grote vervuilers voor iets meer dan 90% van de tijd meedoen aan de besprekingen, terwijl milieu ngo's voor een kleine 6% mochten aanzitten......

Niet verder gezeurd, elke actie op dit gebied dient gebruikt te worden, lees en teken daarom de petitie ajb vandaag nog en geeft het door, actie op terugdringing van de CO2 (en methaan*) uitstoot mag niet meer uitgesteld worden!

Per the bombshell Carbon Majors Report, prepared by the environmental non-profit CDP and the Climate Accountability Institute, a staggering 71 percent of all carbon emissions since 1988 can be traced back to only 100 corporations, most of which are fossil fuels producers. Even more alarming, half of all global industrial emissions can be traced to just 25 corporate and state-owned entities.

If emissions continue at the same rate for the next 28 years as they have for the last 28 years, global average temperatures would rise by 4 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, resulting in catastrophic consequences for civilization, including:

• the inundation of coastal cities;
• increasing risks for food production potentially leading to higher malnutrition rates; many dry regions becoming dryer and wet regions wetter;
• unprecedented heat waves in many regions, especially in the tropics;
• substantially exacerbated water scarcity in many regions;
• increased frequency of high-intensity tropical cyclones;
• irreversible loss of biodiversity, including coral reef systems.

These 100 companies, of which ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Hess, Murray

Coal, and Chesapeake Energy Corp are a part, are a clear and present danger to civilization, and action must be taken at once to ensure that average global temperatures do not pass the point of no return.

Our top priority – not just as Democrats or Republicans, or even Americans, but humans – should be to transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy, to end our use of fossil fuels, to curb meat consumption, to protect and expand forests, and to eliminate our carbon footprint. Of course, even all of those actions will be useless if the corporations responsible for the vast majority of such dangerous emissions do not act now.

* Methaangas is één van de sterkste broeikasgassen en komt in grote hoeveelheden vrij in de intensieve martelveehouderij (in ons land goed voor het jaarlijks groot en doodmartelen van 500 miljoen dieren!!).... Voorts komt er steeds meer methaangas vrij door het ontdooien van de permafrost, dit werkt cumulatief, dus hoe meer methaangas (en CO2) er vrijkomt, des te sneller stijgt de wereldtemperatuur, waardoor er nog meer methaangas vrijkomt, daardoor ontdooit er nog meer permafrost, enz. enz. Juist het cumulatieve effect zorgt ervoor dat de temperatuur de 1,5 of 2 graden Celsius stijging (zoals afgesproken in Parijs) aan het eind van deze eeuw ver zal overstijgen...... Onlangs werd bekend gemaakt dat de ijsmassa op Groenland in een schrikbarend tempo verdwijnt, ook dat doet de temperatuur verder stijgen..... Als de totale ijsmassa op Groenland is verdwenen zal de zeespiegel met zo'n 7 meter stijgen, ofwel een groot deel van Nederland zal onderwater komen te staan, ook zal dit de kans op grote overstromingen en orkanen aanjagen......

13.000 kinderen van vluchtelingen zitten gevangen in VS 'detentiekampen'

Kreeg gisteren een petitie van het Care2 team. De kop gaf al aan dat deze gevangenhouding een zeer grove schending van kinder- en mensenrechten is, schendingen waarin terreurentiteit VS één van de grootste specialisten is.......

13.000 kinderen zitten gevangen in 'detentiekampen' (wat 'luxer' dat een gewoon concentratiekamp...).....

Gelukkig mogen andere dan VS burgers deze petitie ook tekenen, lees de tekst ajb en teken! (en geeft het door!)

And now, these children are starting to be adopted by foster families in the U.S., never to see their own families again.

Araceli Ramos Bonilla is one mother very nearly lost her two-year-old daughter, Alexa, to an American family. She was arrested after crossing the border into Texas, and Alexa was taken away. Months later, she was denied asylum and deported to El Salvador without her baby. 

Alexa was eventually sent to live with a temporary foster family in Missouri. But through various legal loopholes, Alexa's guardians decided to seek custody even though they weren't supposed to. After 28 minutes in a courthouse, that Araceli had no idea was taking place, a judge granted them custody.


After a long and expensive fight, Araceli did eventually get Alexa back, but by that time, Alexa hardly recognized her mother. They were eventually able to bond, but the stress of separation has left an indelible scar on both of them.

Araceli and Alexa may have been reunited eventually, but many other families won't be that lucky.
The cruelty must end now. Sign now to demand that the Trump administration reunites families to ensure that detained children are not permanently separated through adoption.

Stop de barbaarse Japanse slachting van walvissen >> boycot Japan!

Gisteren ontving ik een petitie van Alex B., lid van het Care2 Petiton Team, een petitie tegen de komende slachting die Japan wil uitvoeren op walvissen, e.e.a. ook naar aanleiding van World Oceans Week (WOW), die dit jaar van 4 tot 12 juni duurt.

Japan voert deze jaarlijkse slachting uit onder het mom van wetenschappelijk onderzoek, terwijl dit wetenschappelijk bewezen kul is, voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek op walvissen hoef je deze mooie en intelligente dieren niet te vermoorden......



Vorig jaar vermoordde Japan maar liefst 120 zwangere Antarctische dwergvinvissen, van de in totaal 333 vermoordde dwergvinvissen........ Van de honderden walvissen die Japan vorig jaar vermoordde, waren er meer dan 180 van het vrouwelijk geslacht en 70% van hen was zwanger..... (het is maar zeer de vraag of deze cijfers kloppen, immers ze worden aangevoerd door Japan...)

Sea Shepherd, de organisatie die zich jarenlang actief verzette tegen de Japanse slachtingen, heeft vorig jaar de handdoek in de ring gegooid, daar de Japanse walvisvloot met militaire zaken de boel zo had versterkt en beveiligd dat Sea Shepherd niets meer kan uitrichten.



Die aanpassingen zijn door de Japanse overheid gesubsidieerd, zoals ook de hele walvisjacht wordt gesubsidieerd door de Japanse overheid. De consumptie van walvisvlees is sterk teruggelopen in Japan, waardoor de diepvriespakhuizen voor walvisvlees volkomen uit hun voegen barsten........



De hoogste tijd dat de Japanse regering internationaal aan de paal wordt genageld voor de barbarij......

Boycot Japanse producten en onderneem geen vakanties naar dat land!

Action for World Oceans Week: Stop the Summer Whale Slaughter

Last year, the government of Japan harpooned 333 Antarctic minke whales to death. 120 of these whales were expecting mothers.

It wasn't the first time this slaughter has occurred, and if we don't act now, it certainly will not be the last.

The Japanese government conducts this annual whale hunt every summer in the name of scientific research. But non-lethal surveys have been shown to be just as effective for "biological sampling." In reality, many of the whales are ending up at the dinner table.

This week is World Ocean's Week and the summer hunt is just around the corner. There will be no better time to raise your voice for these whales.

Japan plans to slaughter at least 4,000 whales over the next decade. But according to a 2014 ruling by the International Court of Justice, Japan is breaking the law by continuing their Antarctic whaling program. 

We must continue to shine a light on Japan's horrific, criminal hunt. Please sign and share the petition today!

Imagine this, you are out in the ocean, swimming along with your friends and family. The sky is blue, the water is the perfect temperature. Life couldn't be better. Then all of a sudden a grenade-tipped harpoon plows into your chest.. It explodes. Your friends look on in horror as you are dragged to your death by a whaling ship. 

This is what happens hundreds of times a year all thanks to the horrific Japanese whaling industry. The country is one of only a handful of nations that continues to harvest the cetaceans. Officials defend the practice in the name of science. They say the whales are harvested in order to conduct "biological sampling." However, according to many experts, non-lethal surveys have been shown to be just as fruitful. 

Science though is only an excuse, in reality, the 333 minke Antarctic whales that were killed last year likely ended up at the dinner table. 

Of the hundreds of whales that were taken in 2017 more than 180 of those were female and of those, nearly 70% were pregnant making the hunt even more tragic. 

If the world cannot convince Japan to abandon its whaling program the bloodshed will continue since the country says they intend to kill at least 4000 whales over the next decade. 

According to a 2014 ruling by the International Court of Justice, Japan is breaking the law by continuing their Antarctic whaling program. Countries like Australia and animal rights organizations around the world have urged Japan to stop to no avail. But we can't give up. Each and every one of our signatures let Japan know that we are against this horrible practice. Together, by speaking up, we can send a strong message. 

Please sign the petition and urge Japan to end their whaling program and stop this barbaric hunt.

River State Nigeria, alles is bedekt met een laag roet........

Ontving gisteren een petitie van het Care2 team. In deze petitie wordt de deelstaatregering van River State (Nigeria) opgeroepen eindelijk wat aan de al een paar jaar voortdurende enorme luchtvervuiling te doen.

Mensen worden 's morgens wakker en vinden veel van hun spullen onder een laag roet...... Uiteraard zorgt de luchtvervuiling die dit veroorzaakt, ook nog eens voor een aantal aandoeningen zoals kanker....... Organen als hart, longen, nieren en lever raken beschadigt door deze troep.

Black Soot in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria: “The Danger that Lurks” Behind the Black Particles

According to the Press Release purportedly issued by the Rivers State government dated December 8, 2016, it has been brought to the attention of the Rivers State government the “appearance of strange black soot deposits noticeably seen on cars and rooftops in our environment especially in Port Harcourt and its environs.” The Press Release further stated “that it is apparently obvious that the [Rivers] state government cannot decontaminate the airspace but it can put a stop to the pollution if the source of the soot is located.”

Sources of particulate matter, which can manifest as black soot, include diesel trucks, plants powered by coal/industrial operations, wood-burning stoves (USEPA, 1997). Exposure to black soot can severely impact human health causing premature death, severe asthma, breathing and other respiratory problems, cancer and birth defects (USEPA, 2016). Black soot or “black carbon”, a “harmful air pollutant”, can also contribute to global warming (Sierra Club, n.d.). According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, “there is sufficient evidence in experimental animals for the carcinogenicity of black carbon”(IARC, 1996), i.e. black carbon can cause cancer.

Time is of the essence for the Rivers state government to spare no efforts to find the source of the black soot pollution in the Port Harcourt area and to use appropriate technologies to, yes, clean up the soot contamination and “decontaminate the airspace”.

For the longer term, “prevention is better than cure”. To ensure a sustainable environment and foster sustainable development in Rivers state, the Rivers state government should develop effective laws and regulations to prevent pollution in any form, including air pollution, AND enforce such laws and regulations. The polluter pays principle should be the bedrock of environmental legislation not only in Rivers State but in Nigeria. 

The primary role of government is to ensure the security and welfare of the people (Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999). It is not unreasonable to state that the security of a person may be threatened by poor health. The Rivers state government must protect every person in Rivers state, young and old, rich and poor, from the danger that lurks behind the black soot particles. All breathe the same air as air contaminants do not distinguish between the rich and the poor, young and old, government officials and non-government workers. To whom much is given, much more is required.

Help End Air Poisoning in the Rivers State Community!

People in Rivers State, Nigeria wake up every morning to find black soot covering everything from their food and furniture to their cars and the trees outside. It seems as though the entire community is coated with a fine dust that seeps into everything.

Residents of the state have started a Care2 petition, imploring the global community to help them stop the pollution that is showering down on them. Will you add your voice to their cause?

The soot may look like just a freaky occurrence, but its implications are deadly real. Air pollution is poisoning the people of the town. Everyone is affected — the elderly, children, mothers, fathers, common citizens, and even government workers. Soot is dangerous and can cause premature deaths, asthma attacks, lung diseases and rise in cancer. No one is immune.

That's why the community there is reaching out to us. In order to make sure the government takes them seriously and gets involved immediately, we will have to act together to bring international attention to this public health catastrophe.

Kraft Heinz en slavenarbeid in uw ketchup.........

Donderde afgelopen woensdagavond weer 'naarstig' van m'n stoel, toen ik de e-post van Care2 openmaakte. De Kraft Heinz tomatenpuree gigant maakt in haar productieketen naar grote waarschijnlijkheid gebruik van slavenarbeid...........

Eén ding is wel zeker: als dit bedrijf al wordt verdacht van slavernij, is het loon dat in ontwikkelingslanden wordt betaald aan mensen die in de voornoemde keten werken, van onbeschoft laag niveau!! 2017 mensen, is het godverdomme niet om te janken??!!!

Boycotten die hap smerige uitbuitketchup mensen!!!

21 million people around the world experience forced labor, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO). People are particularly at risk in the food industry, where an average US$9 billion in illegal profits are produced globally every year.

This is a huge problem that we just can't ignore. We need the largest food companies like Kraft Heinz to take action now to help stop this.

The Know the Chain report benchmarks Kraft Heinz at a shocking 9 points out of 100 based on how major food companies address forced labour in their supply chains. Notably, Kraft Heinz needs to do better when it comes to disclosing and tracing their supply chain down to the commodity level to help ensure that horrific exploitation stays out of the end product.

Kraft Heinz needs to know that the world is watching and we don't want human suffering in our food. Please add your voice to call out Kraft Heinz so that they're pressured to crack down on forced labour.

The Know the Chain report lays out several ways the company can take action. Kraft Heinz should start by reviewing and adhering to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Kraft Heinz must ensure that their supply chain is traceable and that workers are free to associate and organize in support of their rights!

Australisch fascistische gevangenisbewind deel 2: een petitie!

Beste bezoeker: hier een herhaling van een eerder bericht, dat ik op 27 juli jl. plaatste, dit daar Care2 een petitie is gestart (daarover straks meer):

Schokkend te horen hoe bewakers omgaan met jonge gevangenen in Australië..... Afgelopen maandagmiddag (26 juli jl.) bracht BBC World Service (radio ± 14.22 u CET) het bericht, dat in twee jeugdgevangenissen in de Northern Territory, jongens zwaar werden mishandeld, of beter gezegd: gemarteld, door het personeel.....

E.e.a. vond plaats tussen 2010 en 2012. Zo werd één van de jongens gedwongen uitgekleed en zwaar mishandeld door twee bewakers en werden 6 jongens gecorrigeerd met traangas in hun cel..........

Onlangs werd Australië al verantwoordelijk gesteld voor de inhumane detentie van vluchtelingen op kleine eilandenstaten in de Stille Oceaan........ Dat Australië hiermee het VN Vluchtelingenverdrag schendt, is nog een zwakke constatering, gezien de barbaarse omgang met vluchtelingen door dit 'land........'

Vanmorgen meldde BBC W.S. (radionieuws 10.00 u. CET) dat het Australisch parlement een wet heeft aangenomen, waarin artsen, psychologen en andere Australische hulpverleners, die werkzaam zijn in de gevangenissen ('detentiecentra') op die eilanden, wordt verboden met wie dan ook te spreken over hun ervaringen........ Overtredingen zullen zwaar worden gestraft.......

Weet u nog hoe Australië werd bewierookt over haar omgang met vluchtelingen, door o.a. VVD Untersturmbannführer Zijlstra en de houten CDA dildo van Haersma Buma?

Steve King (VS Congres): openlijk racistisch, zonder enige consequentie.......

De republikeinse psychopaat Steve King, uit het Congres, durfde onlangs openlijk racistische taal te uiten tijdens een White Supremacy (fascisten) bijeenkomst te zeggen, dat de gekleurden niets hebben bijgedragen aan de 'geciviliseerde samenleving......' Met 'geciviliseerd', bedoelt hij uiteraard vooral de VS..... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Goed plan, de VS civiliseren!!

Buiten dat de gekleurden de VS zo ongeveer hebben opgebouwd, is er een groot aantal gekleurden dat grote bijdragen heeft geleverd op gebied van wetenschap, politiek, literatuur, kunst en vooral niet te vergeten muziek!! Er zijn veel meer zaken te bedenken, waar de gekleurden in alleen al de VS grote prestaties hebben neergezet!!

Het is dus nu al zover, dat een 'toppoliticus' dit soort praatjes mag houden in het openbaar, zonder enige consequentie....... Dit in een land, waar vorig jaar 998 gekleurde mensen door de politie werden doodgeschoten en het eerste halfjaar van 2016, geeft weer een stijging van 6% op dezelfde periode van 2015 te zien.......

De VS, het land van hoop en glorie? Zeg maar: 'stront en smurrie!'

De bron voor mijn bericht is een Care2 petitie, die wij als niet-VS burgers niet kunnen tekenen. Een petitie waarmee een openlijk excuus wordt geëist van opperschoft King voor zijn racistische uitlating.

Iowa Congressman Steve King preached literal White Supremacy last night on an MSNBC panel. 

He was there to discuss the racial makeup of the Republican Party and he said the following about what he called “subgroups” (A.K.A. non-Western European descent folks):

“I’d ask you to go back through history and figure out where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you are talking about? Where did any other subgroup of people contribute more to civilization?”

While his racist view is not terribly surprising, it is wildly offensive and we demand he publicly apologize.

His comment shows a historical, cultural and sociological ignorance at best and deep-seated proud racism at worst. 

There is no way to spin this comment that doesn’t say “I’m a white guy who legitimately believes white people are better than everyone else”. And he isn’t ashamed of that viewpoint, which ultimately betrays the fact that the RNC is a safe space for vitriolic and rampant racism.

It’s astounding that he could say this in a country that was literally built on the backs of slaves of African descent.

Pinguïn zwemt jaarlijks meer dan 8.000 kilometer om redder te bezoeken!

Adorable Penguin Swims 5,000 Miles Each Year to Visit the Man Who Rescued Him

Talk about gratitude.

How far would you swim to reunite with the person who saved your life? For one penguin who found himself in a sticky situation (literally), the answer is approximately 5,000 miles.

Have you heard about the Magellanic Penguin and retired bricklayer in Brazil who have struck up a unique friendship?

Joao Pereira de Souza lives in a fishing village just outside Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2011 he found a tiny penguin lying on some rocks at his local beach. The creature was covered in oil and close to death.

Joao cleaned the penguin, nursed him back to health, and named him Dindim. Joao tried releasing the penguin, presumably never to meet again, but Dindim wasn’t ready to leave just yet. Joao recalls, “He stayed with me for 11 months and then, just after he changed his coat with new feathers, he disappeared.”

But that was not the last time the two would meet. So the story goes, over the past five years, Dindim has spent many months of the year with Joao and some believe he spends the rest of the time breeding off the coast of Argentina and Chile.

Joao told Globo TV, “I love the penguin like it’s my own child and I believe the penguin loves me.” Apparently, no one else is permitted to touch Dindim, besides Joao, of course. Dindim lets Joao give him showers, feed and pick him up.

That’s quite a heartwarming story, eh?

According to Penguin World, the Magellanic Penguin is the only migratory, offshore-foraging species in its genus. Some move as far north as Peru and Brazil in winter. So a penguin hanging out at a Brazilian fishing village is not necessarily as wild and crazy as it may sound.

I wonder though; is having a human ‘bff’ in any way a detriment to this wild penguin’s welfare?

We know that there are health and emotional benefits of human-animal interactions. But we also know that wild animals belong in the wild and when humans try to change that, tragedy happens.

Still, a recent study found that ecotourism — which some claim can be dangerous to animal species in general —“might be less harmful to larger birds than previously thought because larger animals are more likely to be able to tolerate human disturbance.” A key finding from the study: “Larger birds are more tolerant of humans than smaller birds.”

Daniel Blumstein, the study’s senior author and a member of the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, explained, “This new finding flips previous recommendations about large-bodied species being more vulnerable to the presence of humans, and shows that large-bodied species are more tolerant.” He added, “It is likely costly for animals to respond fearfully to people that are not harming them.”

Interesting indeed, but to get the full picture, you should read the complete study.

As for the heartwarming bond between Joao and Dindim, to further explore whether this relationship is in any way harmful to the penguin, I turned to International Bird Rescue, an organization that has pioneered oiled aquatic bird care.

There I connected with Barbara Callahan, International Bird Rescue’s Response Services Director, who had just left Brazil where she was working with their partner organization, Aiuká Consultoria em Soluções Ambientais. Callahan suggested I connect with the Projects Director of Aiuká, Valeria Ruoppolo, who has been following this case.

About the unusual human-penguin friendship, Ruoppolo told me, “There is no harm really, but that is excluding the fact that the animal is being fed while on shore and that is why it does not go away.”

Takes a bit of wind out of the friendship sail, but what do you expect? It’s hard for anyone to turn down free lunch.

In terms of where exactly the penguin goes when not with Mr. Joao, Ruoppolo believes the media thus far has gotten it wrong. “Once it decides to go, the animal clearly knows where it is going back to, but in my opinion it does not go back south to Argentina as I have seen all over the media.”

Her theory? “The penguin is generally away for 4 months and it probably feeds and swims around south and southeastern Brazil when it decides to go back to Mr. Joao.”
