Trump administratie manipuleert de bevolking middels 'fake news' richting oorlog met Iran.................

Het volgende artikel, geschreven door Adam Johnson Op 'FAIR', ontving ik gisteren via Anti-Media.

Johnson betoogt dat het vreemd is te zien hoe de Trump administratie van uur tot uur via een slechte plot de reguliere (massa-) media manipuleert en hoe die media als een kip zonder kop een waanzinnig verhaal overnemen als was het de waarheid...... Kortom: alweer komt een fiks deel van de reguliere media met nepnieuws (of 'fake news' zo u wilt)......................

De Trump administratie heeft 'veiligheidsaanklagers' van justitie opgedragen te zoeken naar alles wat maar stinkt in verband met Iran...... Dit daar de Trump administratie de sancties tegen Iran verder wil opvoeren, maar daar wel een reden voor moet hebben...... Ronduit schandalig natuurlijk, daar de aanklagers worden gebruikt voor een smerig politiek spel van Trump en z'n militaire junta, vandaar ook dat een paar klokkenluiders deze zaak naar buiten brachten.

Behoorlijk vreemd, zeker als je bedenkt dat de Trump administratie Iran zonder enig bewijs beschuldigde van het zich niet houden aan de eerder met Obama gesloten nucleaire deal (de zogenaamde: Iran Deal) en daarop opnieuw sancties instelde. Dit deed de VS zonder overleg te plegen met de andere partijen (zoals de EU) die meewerkten aan het tot stand komen van deze deal (Iran zou afzien van verrijking van uranium, als beloning daarvoor zouden de sancties tegen dat land worden opgeheven)....

En waar gaat hem om beste bezoeker? Wel simpel: men stelt o.a. dat een Iraanse man HBO en dan m.n. haar site van Game of Thrones heeft gehackt....... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! 'Zo de waard is vertrouwt deze haar gasten', zullen we maar denken, immers welk land zou zo gek zijn daadwerkelijk energie te steken in het hacken van een tv serie??? Juist: alleen de VS!!

Het is als met Noord-Korea dat Sony zou hebben gehackt, een zaak waarvoor nooit de bewijzen boven tafel zijn gekomen......

Zijne kwaadaardigheid Mike Pompeo die momenteel de CIA leidt was eerder al bezig om middels delen uit rapporten aan elkaar te plakken en zo te bewijzen dat Osama Bin Laden en Al Qaida een band hadden/hebben met Iran........ ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Bin Laden en 'zijn' Al Qaida zijn van soennitische huize en die geloofsrichting in de islam is de doodsvijand van de sjiieten en daarmee van het sjiitische Iran.......

Lullig genoeg geeft dit eens te meer aan dat de VS uit is op oorlog met Iran, daarin werkt de VS samen met de reli-fascistische dictatuur Saoedi-Arabië en de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël...... NB de 3 grote agressors in het Midden-Oosten, dit in tegenstelling tot Iran!

It’s rare to see evidence of an administration plot to manipulate the media unfolding in real time, but such is the case this week—and thus far, corporate media have taken the bait hook, line, and sinker.

The Washington Post reported Sunday (11/19/17) that the Trump Justice Department had been ordering national security prosecutors to single out cases involving Iranian nationals to help push for new sanctions on Iran. The Post’s Devlin Barrett, citing Justice Department officials, laid out the strategy (emphasis added):

Last month, national security prosecutors at the Justice Department were told to look at any ongoing investigations involving Iran or Iranian nationals with an eye toward making them public.

The push to announce Iran-related cases has caused internal alarm, these people said, with some law enforcement officials fearing that senior Justice Department officials want to reveal the cases because the Trump administration would like Congress to impose new sanctions on Iran. A series of criminal cases could increase pressure on lawmakers to act, these people said.

Some federal law enforcement officials have also voiced concerns that announcing the cases, rather than keeping them under seal, could imperil ongoing investigative work or make it harder to catch suspects who might travel out of Iran, according to the people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing investigations.

Here we have several insiders effectively whistleblowing on the Trump DoJ* that its national security investigations are being politicized to advance a hawkish policy agenda. Under a “normal” presidency, this would likely be a major scandal, but under Scandal-a-Day Trump, it hardly registered notice.

What’s perhaps more shocking is that numerous major media outlets—either ignorant of or indifferent to the Post’s revelations—took the bait, reporting about an “Iranian” hack of HBO without noting the Trump DoJ’s cynical motives:

• BuzzFeed (11/21/17):  “Let The Puns Begin: ‘Winter Has Come’ to the Iranian Who Pirated HBO‘s Game of Thrones”
• Reuters (11/21/17): “US Prosecutors Charge Iranian in Game of Thrones Hack”
• New York Daily News (11/21/17): “Iranian Hacker Charged With Stealing Game of Thrones Scripts to Extort HBO for $6M in Bitcoin”
• Guardian (11/21/17): “US Prosecutors Charge Iranian With Game of ThronesHack”
• New York Times (11/21/17): “Iranian Hacker Charged in HBO Hacking That Included ‘Game of Thrones’ Script”

All of these reports were 36–48 hours after the Post broke the story that the targeting of Iranian nationals was a deliberate political ploy by Trump to single out their alleged crimes for the entirely unrelated purposes of stoking a war panic, imposing harsher sanctions, and doing what the administration has long—and quite openly—wanted to do: get out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, otherwise known as the Iran Deal. But none of these reports mention this crucial piece of context, context that would put the sensational headlines about Iranians hijacking our precious pop culture assets into proper perspective.

Most of the articles had a throwaway line explaining that Justice wasn’t technically implicating the Iranian government, but it was heavily implied they were involved, with citations of the defendant’s “links” to the Iranian military, and one or two paragraphs devoted to previous Iranian and North Korean government hacks.

After noting the alleged hacker had “previously worked as a hacker for the Iranian military,“ and spending roughly 100 words on historical examples of government’s hacking, LA Times’ Ryan Faughnder did note in paragraph 11 that “the indictment did not say the Iranian government was behind the HBO hack.”

The Daily News skipped the caveat all together and strongly suggested the defendant was working on behalf of the Iranian government, writing he was a “member of the Iran-supported Turk Black Hat Security team” and “had worked on behalf of the Iranian armed forces to attack military and nuclear software systems, as well as Israeli infrastructure.” The DoJ’s reluctant admission that he had no connection to the government didn’t merit a mention.

One outlet, NBC News (11/21/17), actually added the context of potential DoJ bias after initially omitting it and hyping up the Iran connection, noting prosecutors denied the allegations. (The archived version can be seen here.)

Clearly NBC editors realized this context was crucial. How many other people around the world have committed similar crimes? How many hacks of this nature are currently under FBI investigation? If the number is 100 and the Trump DoJ, under pressure from anti-Iran ideologues in the administration, selectively highlighted this case to paint a broader narrative, certainly this would put the story in a whole new light.

This isn’t to necessarily blame specific journalists writing up the DoJ’s press conference. It’s possible they missed the Washington Post’s report on political corruption at the DoJ on Iran. Certainly, no reporter can know all relevant reports all the time. But it does speak to a much broader problem of the media taking FBI press releases at face value, and declining to contextualize the broader political implications. (As FAIR has noted previously—4/1/15, 7/1/15—this usually manifests in treating every manufactured “terror” plot as the Lindbergh Baby case.) But to those who do know—and those covering the case moving forward—certainly the blatant politicization of Trump administration prosecutions should be put front and center in any subsequent coverage.

Evidence of anti-Iran positioning at Justice comes on the heels of Trump’s CIA head Mike Pompeo cherry-picking files captured at the assassination of Osama bin Laden in an effort to link Iran to the terrorist mastermind and Al Qaeda to Iran—then giving the only advance copy of this report to a partisan anti-Iran think tank, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, for heavy spin. It was a highly unusual move that ex-Obama official and ex-CIA analyst Ned Price argued on Twitter and in an article in The Atlantic (11/8/17) was a clear attempt to undermine Obama’s Iran deal. “The ploy is transparent despite the fact that the newly released documents don’t tell us anything we didn’t already know,” Price said on social media:

What’s not as transparent are the motives of Pompeo, the administration’s leading and most influential Iran hawk…. These moves suggest he’s reverting to the Bush administration’s playbook: Emphasize terrorist ties as a rationale for regime change.

To anyone paying attention to the bigger picture, the trend is obvious.

Given the Trump admin’s open and well-documented attempts to undermine the Iran deal and build up tensions with Iran, any gestures against the country should, at the very least, be contextualized as part of this broader propaganda effort—especially when confirmation of this effort is relayed by DoJ officials themselves in real time. Thus far, the media is taking DoJ and CIA moves at face value and not presenting these stories as what they clearly are: marketing collateral in a broader PR push for sanctions and potentially war against Iran.

Afghanistan, aantal burgerdoden door oorlog wordt angstvallig verzwegen in de westerse massamedia

Het volgende artikel van Adam Johnson, o.a. geplaatst op Anti-Media, ligt alweer vanaf 24 augustus jl. op de berg concepten die ik heb liggen.

Johnson betoogt terecht in zijn schrijven dat de reguliere (massa-) media in de VS wel aandacht hebben voor het feit dat de VS voorlopig niet van zins is Afghanistan te verlaten, maar geen woord vuil maakt aan het aantal burgerslachtoffers, die werden vermoord met VS geweld. Uiteraard wel aandacht voor het sturen van meer VS troepen naar dit land, dat al meer dan 15 jaar zucht onder de terreur van de VS en een aantal van haar NAVO partners.........

Waar ik nog aan toe zou willen voegen, dat er bij diezelfde media amper aandacht is voor het mislukken van deze oorlog, een zaak die men al vanaf 2006 kon waarnemen, ook in deze wel aandacht van diezelfde media voor de 'successen' die de VS coalitie maakt, successen als het uitschakelen van een Taliban-kopstuk, het uitschakelen van Taliban-strijders, of het mislukken van een Taliban-aanslag...........

Johnson betoogt voorts in zijn artikel, dat de massamedia in de VS het liefst geen aandacht schenken aan het aantal VS militairen dat omkwam in Afghanistan, of wat de enorme kosten voor de belastingbetaler zijn van deze illegale oorlog.......

Hetzelfde geldt voor de oorzaak van deze oorlog, het in feite illegaal binnenvallen van een soeverein land door de VS, een enorme terreurdaad die uiteraard niet zo wordt verwoord door diezelfde media (als het voorgaande, geldt dit ook voor de verdere westerse massamedia)...... Alsof de VS met een nobel voornemen de bijna grootste oorlogsmisdaad begon die te bedenken is, een illegale inval (ofwel oorlog) in een land waar het niets te zoeken had of heeft........

De Taliban moesten niets hebben van Al Qaida, bovendien is het intussen duidelijk, dat Osama Bin Laden, zogenaamd het brein achter de 911 aanslagen, zich niet eens in Afghanistan bevond...... Daarnaast is het intussen wel duidelijk, dat de aanslagen van 911 grotendeels in de VS zijn uitgebroed........

Door deze illegale oorlog van de VS tegen Afghanistan, zijn intussen meer dan 31.000 Afghanen vermoord, waaraan Nederland mede schuld is............

Hetzelfde kan overigens over Jemen worden gesteld, ook hier amper aandacht voor het enorme aantal burgerslachtoffers, al moet gezegd worden, dat daar enige verandering is te bespeuren*.

Mainstream Media Reporting on Afghanistan Escalation Conveniently Omits Dead Civilians

(FAIR) — As President Donald Trump tries to make the case for staying indefinitely in Afghanistan, the stakes for those actually living there are rarely broached by US corporate media.

In dozens of write-ups, recaps and reports on Trump’s “major” Afghan War speech, almost no outlets took time out to note the plight or condition of the people the US is nominally there to save. The New York Times (8/21/17, 8/22/17), Washington Post (8/21/17), Chicago Tribune (8/22/17), CNN (8/21/17, 8/21/17), NBC News (8/21/17), ABC News (8/21/17) and CBS News (8/21/17), among others, didn’t mention the Afghan death toll at all in their summary of events in the region.

Almost all, however, reserved airtime and column inches to mention the number of US soldiers and cost to the US treasury—presumably the only moral metric that matters. One notable exception was Ali Velshi at MSNBC (8/21/17), who did mention live on air how many Afghans were killed in the first half of 2017—a scope curiously limited to the term of the current Republican president, but an improvement on silence nonetheless.

US media also continued their rich tradition of not blaming the US or Trump for the war—instead laying responsibility at the feet of some unknown geopolitical dark matter that has forced the US to occupy Afghanistan permanently. The US isn’t waging ongoing war in the Central Asian country; it is simply “stuck,” according to the AP (8/21/17) and the Washington Post’s Karen Tumulty. Trump isn’t continuing the occupation; according to the Sacramento Bee (8/21/17); he “Keeps US Stuck in Afghanistan Quagmire.” The US doesn’t seek further war and occupation, but to “break free from the quagmire,” the Chicago Tribune(8/22/17) spells out.* Bush, Obama and Trump didn’t make a deliberate choice to bomb Afghanistan, according to PBS’s Judy Woodruff (8/21/17);  attacking the country just became “the burden of three presidents.” War was consistently depicted as being thrust upon the US government by forces outside of its control.

The number of Afghan civilians killed during the 16-year US military occupation is well over 31,000, according to researchers at Brown University. The average American couldn’t possibly know this fact, since it’s almost never mentioned when weighing the cost/benefit ratio of further military occupation and bombing.

Just as the thousands killed in Yemen by US-backed Saudi bombing don’t inform coverage of the famine there, the causal effect of US military action on poor, faceless brown people is never clearly laid out. The US bombs and, on a totally separate note, people are dying. That the United States may be causing the suffering, and could choose to stop doing so, is never really considered, much less argued in any meaningful way.

*The Chicago Tribune editorial does mention civilian deaths, referring to a 2016 UN report, but the paper attributes them solely to “ambushes and suicide bomb attacks” by insurgent forces, whereas the UN holds the US and the US-backed government responsible for nearly a quarter of the carnage there. The Tribune also misstates the UN civilian death toll more than threefold, confusing deaths with casualties (which include injuries).

De eerste plannen voor een staatsgreep in Syrië, dateren uit de 80er jaren, de tijd van opperschoft Reagan! In 2006 werd dit plan nieuw leven ingeblazen, nadat bleek dat het bewind van Assad weigerde pijpleidingen over haar grondgebied toe te staan, pijpleidingen  voor olie en vooral gas transport richting EU.

Twee vliegen in één klap, daar het bewind Assad, zeer tegen de zin van de VS, goede banden onderhield en onderhoudt met Rusland........ In de besprekingen die de VS in 2006 startte met landen als Groot-Brittannië, Turkije, Saoedi-Arabië en een paar andere arabische landen, zette men in op een opstand in Syrië, die zou moeten uitmonden in een staatsgreep tegen Assad en de opdeling van Syrië.....

Vanaf 2011 heeft de VS jaarlijks 1 miljard dollar aan wapens en training in de zogenaamde oppositie gestoken....... Zogenaamde oppositie, daar het overgrote deel van de 'gematigde rebellen', uiterst gewelddadige buitenlandse terroristen zijn zoals die van Al Qaida en IS....... De VS liet na de val van Khadaffi in Libië (ook al via een door de VS georganiseerde opstand en illegale oorlog) een groot aantal terroristen transporteren naar Irak, om van daaruit Syrië in te trekken en daar het Assad bewind omver te werpen.......

De media in de VS stellen echter keer op keer, dat de VS de beste bedoelingen heeft en in een oorlog wordt gelokt, i.p.v. het vervolmaken van een jarenlange uitgedachte strategie om bijvoorbeeld in het Midden-Oosten (maar ook in Oekraïne) de lakens te kunnen uitdelen. Elk land waar een regime aan de macht is, dat niet klakkeloos knielt voor de VS, wordt door de VS als een gevaar voor het eigen voortbestaan afgeschilderd, zowel door de politiek als door de reguliere massamedia.......

Telkens weer wordt onomwonden gesteld dat de VS wordt aangevallen en zich derhalve dient te verdedigen....... Vanaf WOII tot het jaar 2000 heeft de VS meer dan 20 miljoen mensen vermoord in conflicten die door de VS zelf werden gecreëerd..... Sinds het begin van deze eeuw heeft diezelfde VS al 2 miljoen moorden op het geweten, alleen in Irak al meer dan 1,5 miljoen, middels de in 2003 illegaal begonnen oorlog tegen dat land (één van de grootste oorlogsmisdaden en daarmee terreuruitoefeningen die men kan bedenken......)........

Uiteraard moeten Rusland en Iran het ook ontgelden in de reguliere VS media, als zouden zij i.p.v. de VS illegale oorlogen beginnen en opstanden op poten zetten waar het maar uitkomt.........

Mensen het ligt er allemaal zo dik bovenop, dat je niet snapt dat de reguliere media en 'intellectuele opiniemakers' in de rest van het westen, zich zo laten gebruiken door de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde, de VS........ Zonder amper enige kritiek loopt men achter de VS aan, de enige uitzondering is Trump, die sinds zijn aantreden als joker wordt neergezet. Lullig genoeg vinden deze media en intellectuelen verder zo ongeveer alles wat Trump en zijn leger flikken over de wereld, boven elke kritiek verheven.......

Syria Is Just the Latest Example of the US Gov’t Pretending to Be Dragged Into War

(FAIR) — A recent headline in The Atlantic (6/9/17) earnestly pondered if the US was “Getting Sucked Into More War in Syria.” “Even as Washington potentially stumbles into war…” was how the article’s discussion began.

One of the most common tropes in US media is that the US military always goes to war reluctantly—and, if there are negative consequences, like civilian deaths, it’s simply a matter of bumbling around without much plan or purpose.

This framing serves to flatter two sensibilities: one right and one vaguely left. It satisfies the right-wing nationalist idea that America only goes to war because it’s compelled to by forces outside of its own control; the reluctant warrior, the gentle giant who will only attack when provoked to do so. But it also plays to a nominally liberal, hipster notion that the US military is actually incompetent and boobish, and is generally bad at war-making.

This is expressed most clearly in the idea that the US is “drawn into” war despite its otherwise unwarlike intentions. “Will US Be Drawn Further Into Syrian Civil War?” asked Fox News (4/7/17). “How America Could Stumble Into War With Iran,” disclosed The Atlantic (2/9/17), “What It Would Take to Pull the US Into a War in Asia,” speculated Quartz (4/29/17). “Trump could easily get us sucked into Afghanistan again,” Slate predicted (5/11/17). The US is “stumbling into a wider war” in Syria, the New York Times editorial board (5/2/15) warned. “A Flexing Contest in Syria May Trap the US in an Endless Conflict,” Vice News (6/19/17) added.

“Sliding,” “stumbling,” ”sucked into,” “dragged into,” ”drawn into”: The US is always reluctantly—and without a plan—falling backward into bombing and occupying. The US didn’t enter the conflict in Syria in September 2014 deliberately; it was forced into it by outside actors. The US didn’t arm and fund anti-Assad rebels for four years to the tune of $1 billion a year as part of a broader strategy for the region; it did so as a result of some unknown geopolitical dark matter.

Syria especially evokes the media’s “reluctantly sucked into war” narrative. Four times in the past month, the Trump administration has attacked pro-regime forces in Syria, and in all four instances they’ve claimed “self-defense.” All four times, media accepted this justification without question (e.g., Reuters, 6/19/17), despite not a single instance of “self-defense” attacks occurring under two-and-a-half years of the Obama administration fighting in Syria. (The one time Obama directly attacked Syrian government forces, the US claimed it was an accident.)

Why the sudden uptick in “self-defense”? Could it be because, as with the bombing of ISIS (and nearby civilians), Trump has given a green light to his generals to adopt an itchy trigger finger? Could it be Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis, who has a decades-long grudge against Iran, want to blow up Iranian drones and kill Iranian troops? No such questions are entertained, much less interrogated. The US’s entirely defensive posture in Syria is presented as fact and serves as the premise for discussion.

When US empire isn’t reluctant, it’s benevolent. “Initially motivated by humanitarian impulse,” Foreign Policy‘s Emile Simpson (6/21/17)  insisted, “the United States and its Western allies achieved regime change in Libya and attempted it in Syria, by backing rebels in each case.”

“At least in recent decades, American presidents who took military action have been driven by the desire to promote freedom and democracy,” the New York Times editorial board (2/7/17) swooned.

“Every American president since at least the 1970s,” Washington Post’s Philip Rucker (5/2/17) declared, “has used his office to champion human rights and democratic values around the world.” Interpreting US policymakers’ motives is permitted, so long as the conclusion is never critical.

In contrast, foreign policy actions by Russia are painted in diabolical and near-omnipotent terms. “Is Putin’s Master Plan Only Beginning?” worried Vanity Fair (12/28/16). “Putin’s Aim Is to Make This the Russian Century,” insists Time magazine (10/1/16).

Russia isn’t “drawn into” Crimea; it has a secret “Crimea takeover plot” (BBC, 3/9/15). Putin doesn’t “stumble into” Syria; he has a “Long-Term Strategy” there (Foreign Affairs, 3/15/16). Military adventurism by other countries is part of a well-planned agenda, while US intervention is at best reluctant, and at worst bumfuzzled—Barney Fife with 8,000 Abrams tanks and 19 aircraft carriers.

Even liberals talk about war in this agency-free manner. Jon Stewart was fond of saying, for example, that the Iraq war was a “mistake”—implying a degree of “aw shucks” mucking up, rather than a years-long plan by ideologues in the government to assert US hegemony in the Middle East.

War, of course, isn’t a “mistake.” Nor, unless your country is invaded, is it carried out against one’s will. The act of marshalling tens of thousands of troops, scores of ships, hundreds of aircraft, and coordinating the mechanisms of soft and covert power by State and CIA officials, are deliberate acts by conscious, very powerful actors.

Media shouldn’t make broad, conspiratorial assumptions as to what the bigger designs are. But neither are they under any obligation to buy into this mythology that US foreign policy is an improvised peace mission carried out by good-hearted bureaucrats, who only engage in war because they’re “sucked into” doing so.
