Aanval op schoolbus Jemen, door Saoedi-Arabië opzettelijk als doel gekozen, geen reden voor VS veroordeling......

Ondanks dat Saoedi-Arabië heeft toegegeven dat de aanval op de schoolbus in Jemen* (het dodental is opgelopen tot 50..) met opzet werd uitgevoerd, in reactie op een raketaanval van de Houthi rebellen, is dat geen reden voor de VS deze enorme oorlogsmisdaad te veroordelen.......

Niet zo vreemd als je bedenkt dat de VS (en Groot-Brittannië) pal achter de reli-fascistische Saoedische coalitie staan (S-A en VAE**), een coalitie die met hulp van de VS en GB, een genocide uitvoert tegen de sjiitische bevolking van Jemen.......

Wat wellicht wel vreemd is aan deze enorme oorlogsmisdaad, is het feit dat de reguliere (massa-) media in de VS nu wel kritiek hebben op deze oorlogsmisdaad. E.e.a. bleek toen de woordvoerder van het ministerie van buitenlandse zaken, Heather Nauert, onder vuur lag van deze media, daar ze weigerde deze oorlogsmisdaad (in feite zelfs een misdaad tegen de menselijkheid) te veroordelen. Dit in tegenstelling tot de reguliere media hier, die zelfs amper aandacht schonken aan deze smerige oorlogsmisdaad.......

Nauert durfde zelfs te zeggen dat Saoedi-Arabië van groot strategisch belang is voor de VS (en ach als dat tienduizenden doden kost, het zijn maar sjiitische Jemenieten, ja toch....???)

Vreemd die reactie van de reguliere media in de VS, daar men normaal gesproken achter de Saoedische coalitie staat, ook al voert die coalitie overduidelijk een genocide uit in Jemen, een genocide die intussen aan alleen al duizenden kinderen het leven heeft gekost........

Het meest vreemde aan deze zaak is wel de lauwe westerse 'reactie' op het bewust vermoorden van kinderen, terwijl na een dergelijke (hypothetische) actie van de Russen en/of het reguliere Syrische leger, de hele westerse wereld op de kop zou hebben gestaan..... Sterker nog: de VS en anderen hebben Syrië en de Russen meermaals beschuldigd van het vermoorden van kinderen, dit gesteund door die reguliere (massa-) media, waarbij men inderdaad totaal hysterisch reageert, ook al blijkt keer op keer dat er voor die beschuldigingen geen schijn van bewijs kan worden geleverd........ (dat is dan ook bijzonder moeilijk als er geen bewijzen zijn...)

Overigens heb ik tot op heden nog niets gehoord over een veroordeling door de Nederlandse regering of door de EU.........

(ZHE) — Just as expected, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert refused to condemn Thursday’s coalition airstrike on a school bus in Yemen, which left as many as 50 people dead and 63 injured — the vast majority of which were children. 

As we reported previously, Saudi-US/UK coalition jets scored a direct hit on the school bus packed with children as it drove through a crowded market place in Dahyan, in the rebel-held north of Yemen.

During the State Department’s daily press briefing, Nauert was asked point blank by journalists, starting with the AP’s Matt Lee, whether the US condemns the attack.

The whole testy exchange on Yemen is worth watching, especially as Matt Lee lays out the case for direct US complicity in the attack on the bus packed with children from the start of his question: “The Saudis obviously are the ones who conducted this, but they do that with weapons supplied by the U.S., with training supplied by the U.S., and with targeting information, targeting data, supplied by the U.S. How can something like this happen?” he said.

Unbelievably, Nauert tried to obfuscate the issue by simply saying “I can’t confirm all the details because we are not there on the ground.”

Not only did Nauert refuse to say the State Department condemned the attack, but wouldn’t so much as agree to simply call for an independent investigation into the incident (she called only for a Saudi-led inquiry).

Nauert drew random incredulous expressions of laughter from the press pool by the end of the segment on Yemen when she was caught struggling to acknowledge the long established fact that the US supplies “a tremendous amount of weaponry and the data for targeting to the Saudis” while simultaneously touting that Washington provides “a tremendous amount of humanitarian assistance.”

This section of the exchange played out as follows:

MS NAUERT: Look, we provide a tremendous amount of humanitarian assistance in Yemen to try to support civilians in Yemen and try to mitigate against the devastation that’s taken place there in that country. I don’t have anything more for you on that.

QUESTION: But you also supply a tremendous amount of weaponry and the data for targeting to the Saudis.

MS NAUERT: Well, then – sorry.

QUESTION: Right? No?

QUESTION: No.

QUESTION: Am I wrong? Is that wrong?

QUESTION: That’s not wrong.

MS NAUERT: Sorry, these ladies over here are laughing. On that I would refer you to the Department of Defense that is involved with that, but as you know, Saudi Arabia is an important strategic partner in the region to the United States.

Meanwhile as Al Masdar News reports, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is calling for an independent and prompt investigation into the deadly Saudi-led coalition airstrike that hit the bus carrying children, United Nations deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said in a press release.

“The Secretary-General condemns the air strike today by the coalition forces in Saada, which hit a busy market area in Majz District, and impacted a bus carrying children from a summer camp,” Haq said on Thursday. “He calls for an independent and prompt investigation into this incident.”

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), citing local officials, a total of 50 people died in the attack, while another 77 were injured.

Leader of the Yemen’s rebel Supreme Revolutionary Committee Mohammed Houthi on Thursday urged Russia, China and France to hold an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting over the attack of the Saudi-led coalition, local media reported.

According to the Houthi-run Al Masirah TV, the committee’s leader said that the coalition’s attack confirmed that the coalition rejects peace in the region.

Ten tweede durfde ze de leugen te herhalen dat Iran de Houthi's van wapens voorziet, zoals al vaker op de ze plek verzucht, daar is geen nanometer bewijs voor! De BBC blijft keer op keer de Houthi's criminaliseren, dit is in het belang van de broodheer van de BBC, de Britse regering, die het ene na het andere enorme wapencontract t.b.v. de reli-fascistische terreurstaat Saoedi-Arabië tekent, contracten voor wapens, munitie en militaire hardware, dus rollend, varend en vliegend oorlogstuig....... Uiteraard wijst de VS op een eerder gesloten wapenstilstand, echter de enige die zich daar enigszins aan heeft gehouden is het Syrische leger en haar coalitie met o.a. Rusland en Iran......

US Threatens Syria With "Firm And Appropriate Measures" After New Airstrikes

Washington is once again concerned about Syrian government expansion inside... wait for it... Syria.

The United States threatened to take "firm and appropriate measures" against Syrian government forces, claiming repeat "ceasefire violations" and concerned over reports that the Syrian Army may be poised for a new military operation to retake Deraa in the country's south.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said late Friday, “As a guarantor of this de-escalation area with Russia and Jordan, the United States will take firm and appropriate measures in response to Assad regime violations.”

Nauert referenced the thus far tenuously-holding deal between the US, Russia, and Jordan struck last November which among other stipulations proposed efforts for "the reduction, and ultimate elimination of foreign forces and foreign fighters from the area to ensure a more sustainable peace." This was widely interpreted at the time as calling for an "Iran-free" zone in southern Syria, as Israel has long threatened to go to war should Iranian troops be present near its border.

The State Department warnings come at the end of a week in which Syrian state media claimed US fighter jets attacked Syrian Army positions in the eastern desert near the Iraq border overnight Wednesday, which reportedly killed 12 pro-government fighters.

The US, however, has denied any involvement: "We have no operational reporting of a U.S.-led coalition strike against pro-Syrian regime targets or forces," CENTCOM spokesman Captain Bill Urban said in a statement. And a separate Pentagon spokesman said, "These reports are false, the coalition did not strike any Syrian army positions in eastern Syria."

And less than 24 hours later, another airstrike on a base in central Syria is widely reported to have involved Israel, believed to have targeted a Hezbollah weapons depot. 

Notably, a Reuters report acknowledges the US warning issued late Friday comes as 1) Syrian government forces have cleaned out the last ISIS pockets in the country's south; and 2) Damascus is now "in its strongest position since the early months of the war in 2011". Reuters notes further that the government has "recaptured all remaining insurgent areas near Damascus in recent weeks, including the densely populated eastern Ghouta area, as well as big enclaves in central Syria." 

So essentially while warning against "Assad regime violations" and expansion, the State Department is reasserting the US position that Syria cannot "expand" within its own sovereign borders (borders obviously long recognized internationally and by the United Nations).

The Syrian Army is making preparations to move deeper into the southern province of Deraa where fighting began during the opening months the war starting in 2011. Syrian state media has reported that government planes are dropping leaflets over towns in the region, warning anti-Assad forces that they must disarm or face military attack.

Meanwhile, the New York Times has published what purports to be a detailed account of a February 7th major clash between pro-government forces and Russian allies and pro-US forces, which we explained at the time was cause for "an acute international crisis” as it left up to hundreds on the pro-government and Russian side dead, and may have controversially included Russian mercenaries. 

The NYT description of what took place paints a glowing picture of US special forces successfully holding off a massive assault by hundreds of pro-government fighters, based on multiple interviews and documents given to the Times. Business Insider summarizes the NYT revelation as follows :

• Roughly 40 US commandos held off about 500 forces loyal to the Syrian government — including Russian mercenaries — in an intense firefight in early February, The New York Times reports.
• No US troops were harmed, but hundreds of pro-government forces were killed, according to The Times.
• The firefight took place at an outpost next to a Conoco gas station in eastern Syria on February 7.

The New York Times sources described the outcome as follows:

In the end, 200 to 300 of the attacking fighters were killed. The others retreated under merciless airstrikes from the United States, returning later to retrieve their battlefield dead. None of the Americans at the small outpost in eastern Syria — about 40 by the end of the firefight — were harmed.

And further:

The firefight was described by the Pentagon as an act of self-defense against a unit of pro-Syrian government forces. In interviews, United States military officials said they had watched — with dread — hundreds of approaching rival troops, vehicles and artillery pieces in the week leading up to the attack.

If both this week's reported foreign air assaults and last month's massive US coalition strikes on Damascus are any indication, such direct clashes between Syria and the US forces will likely occur again. The only question that remains is the degree to which things will escalate in any future confrontation as the stakes are now even higher with Damascus feeling itself in a more comfortable security position compared to last year, and has a new confidence to respond militarily.
