VS coalitie valt Syrische troepen aan......... Ofwel de strijd van de VS tegen IS, is in feite een strijd tegen de democratisch gekozen regering Assad........

Ongelofelijk: de VS, de grootste terreurentiteit op onze aarde, NB illegaal aanwezig op Syrisch grondgebied, heeft Syrische Assad getrouwe strijdgroepen* aangevallen nabij Khusham, ten oosten van de rivier de Eufraat en daarbij naar eigen zeggen meer dan 100 strijders vermoord...... Alweer een oorlogsmisdaad en in feite een terroristische aanval van enorme proporties op het conto van de VS.....

De aanval werd ingezet daar de strijders posities aanvielen van de Syrische Democratische Strijdkrachten (SDF ofwel Syrian Democratic Forces*), die een Syrisch gebied bezet houden waar ze eerder IS uit verdreven...... Het zou de strijders tegen de SDF om gaswinning gaan, aldus de VS...... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! 'Zo de waard is...', immers de VS is maar voor één zaak aanwezig in het Midden-Oosten, olie en gas! Oh nee, nu vergeet ik het behartigen van de Israëlische belangen, deze fascistische apartheidsstaat wil het Midden-Oosten opdelen in kleine stukken, zodat het zionistische geteisem de boel makkelijk onder de duim kan houden.......

Alsof het vreemd is dat een soevereine staat als Syrië haar eigen grondgebied wil beheren......

Vreemd dat de VS (van wie de straaljagers de aanval uitvoerden) Turkije niet aanvalt, het land dat nu al een paar weken lang de Koerdische YPG op Syrisch grondgebied aanvalt en daarbij een groot aantal slachtoffers heeft gemaakt (ook al een grove en grote oorlogsmisdaad), dezelfde YPG die volgens de VS deel uitmaakt van de SDF....... 'Vreemd' daar de VS ('coalitie') beweert dat de aanval uit zelfverdediging was, verdediging tegen de Assad getrouwe strijdgroepen........

Nogmaals: hiermee wordt geheel ten overvoede aangetoond dat de VS niet in Syrië is om terreur te bestrijden (door gebruik van grootschalige terreur), maar om de democratisch gekozen regering Assad ten val te brengen.......

De VS zegt dat er geen van haar piloten, noch 'militaire adviseurs' (ofwel VS militairen) zijn omgekomen bij de gevechten...... 'Militaire adviseurs', zo probeert de VS nog enigszins te verhullen dat het met troepen in Syrië vecht.......

De zoveelste massamoord op naam van de VS en dat om terroristen te beschermen..........

Hoe lang kan de VS doorgaan met haar terreur voordat de wereld zegt: "Tot hier en niet verder!"

Het Internationaal Strafhof moet eindelijk de VS aanklagen voor alle begane oorlogsmisdaden!

*   Volgens Syrië gaat het om Syrische militairen, niet dat dit verder iets toevoegt aan deze barbaarse aanval.......

** De SDF wordt door de VS afgeschilderd als een 'gematigde rebellengroep', echter in werkelijkheid is het voor een fiks deel moorddadig tuig, dat al meermaals mensen heeft gemarteld, onthoofd en een waar schrikbewind voert in gebieden waar het de lakens uitdeelt..........

VS bombardeert Raqqa plat en nog steeds kijkt de wereld stilzwijgend toe........

Het volgende bericht is eigenlijk een vervolg op een eerder bericht op dit blog*, maar is te belangrijk om niet nog eens te noemen, zeker als je ziet om hoeveel burgerslachtoffers het in deze berichtgeving gaat en de reguliere media en politiek er het zwijgen toe blijven doen, maar wel de smerige leugens van de VS en haar coalitiegenoten blijven herhalen als feiten.....

De VS heeft het grootste deel van de Syrische stad Raqqa in puin gelegd, elke acht minuten wordt er vanuit de lucht munitie afgeworpen, dan wel afgevuurd (raketten) op de stad........ Anti-Media bracht gisteren een artikel van Darius Shahtahmasebi, die o.a. Airwars citeerde, deze organisatie stelt dat er in Augustus minstens 433 burgers in Raqqa werden vermoord middels VS 'precisiebombardementen.....'

Uiteraard is een groot deel van de slachtoffers vrouw en kind, je weet wel, waarbij getroffen kinderen in het westen onder aanvoering van de VS tot hysterische reacties leiden als men daar het reguliere Syrische leger en de Russen van beschuldigt........ Terwijl de basis van deze berichten bestaat uit valse berichten ('fake news') van terreurorganisatie 'White Helmets', of andere terreurorganisaties in Syrië, die spreken over getroffen kinderen bij acties van het reguliere Syrische leger en/of de Russen.......

Blijkbaar kan de VS zoveel (kinder) slachtoffers maken als het wil, het westen kijkt stilzwijgend goedkeurend toe......... Bij de bevrijding van Aleppo door hetzelfde Syrische leger en de Russen, stopten deze legers 2 maanden voor de uiteindelijke bevrijding met bombarderen van Oost-Aleppo...... Let wel: bij de bevrijding van de bevolking van de vreselijke terreur waarin zij leefden, ook onder terreur van de door het westen gesteunde 'gematigde rebellen.......' (lees: psychopathische: moordenaars, verkrachters en martelbeulen) Dit stoppen met bombarderen, om zoveel mogelijk burgerslachtoffers te vermijden, haalde de reguliere westerse media niet en het besluit kreeg al helemaal geen goedkeurend commentaar van die ('onafhankelijke') media of van het overgrote deel van de westerse politici.......

In West-Mosul bleef de VS tot het eind doorgaan met bombarderen, ook al hadden de VN en een aantal landen de VS meermaals om verzocht daarmee te stoppen......... Het totale aantal vermoorde burgerslachtoffers in West-Mosul, alleen al met die bombardementen, zullen we waarschijnlijk nooit weten, zeker nadat het Iraakse leger begon met het bulldozeren van gebouwen en huizenblokken, waarin zich nog de stoffelijke resten bevonden van gebruikers en/of bewoners....... Schattingen van het aantal burgerdoden in West-Mosul lopen uiteen van 10.000 tot dik 20.000.........

Nu heeft de VS dus het grootste deel van Raqqa platgegooid en alweer een groot aantal burgers vermoord....... De VS-coalitie (maar vooral de VS zelf) gooide maar liefst 5.775 bommen op Raqqa, dat was een stijging van maar liefst 92% t.o.v. juli 2017....... De VS liet in augustus maar liefst 10 keer zoveel stuks munitie vanuit de lucht neerdalen op Raqqa (een gebied van 40 vierkante kilometer), dan in de maand augustus op heel Afghanistan, hoewel de VS bombardementen daar een record vormden gemeten over de laatste 5 jaar........ Het zal je dan ook niet verbazen dat intussen 75% van Raqqa in puin ligt........



Vergeet voorts niet dat het bombarderen van woonwijken een ernstige oorlogsmisdaad is, iets wat bijna niemand nog schijnt te deren......

Wanneer gaat men de VS eindelijk aanklagen bij het Internationaal Strafhof in Den Haag voor haar gruwelijke en grote oorlogsmisdaden die het her en der aanricht....?

The US Is Bombing Raqqa Into Complete Devastation — at Least 433 Civilians Killed

(ANTIMEDIA) — The United States has been bombing the Syrian city of Raqqa into complete devastation at the rate of at least one air-delivered munition every 8 minutes, according to monitoring group Airwars. The organization found that in August, there was a sharp increase in the number of bombs dropped by the U.S.-led coalition. This resulted in at least 433 civilian deaths in that month alone.

From Airwars’ monthly report:

“Raqqa bore the brunt of this dramatic hike in munitions released. The Coalition reported that a record 5,775 bombs and missiles were fired in support of operations to capture the city – a 92% increase [from] July.  This figure is 5% higher than the peak munitions fired on West Mosul back in March, to date the deadliest month for civilian harm tracked by Airwars across the entire war. Those 5,775 munitions fired at Raqqa were also more than ten times the declared number of munitions released by US aircraft in all of Afghanistan during August – which was itself at a five-year high.”

This is also the rate at which the U.S. was bombing Mosul in Iraq before Donald Trump took office, and yet the media continues to remain mostly silent on the topic. It is especially quiet now, even though Raqqa is less than half the size of West Mosul. As Airwars explains:

“Moreover, those record Coalition munitions were fired into a small geographic area. Raqqa covers approximately 40 square kilometers – less than half the size of West Mosul. It was reported that some 2,000 ISIS fighters still remained in Raqqa city by August 6th, who were using as many as 20,0000 civilians as involuntary human shields.”

Airwars also explained that even though the coalition continues to use the term “coalition,” so as to promote the idea of a team-effort being involved, it is the United States that continues to conduct nearly 100 hundred percent of the bombing. For example, the United Kingdom delivered only eight strikes in Iraq during the month of August and 31 strikes in Syria (mostly aimed at Raqqa). France delivered 16 strikes in Raqqa for the same period.

More than 75 percent of Raqqa has now allegedly been destroyed by the bombing. This is a territory the United States does not even have the legal justification to bomb in the first place, yet it continues to do so unabated.

Russia’s contribution to the Syrian conflict as of late barely received a passing mention in Airwars’ report. While no one would deny that Russian-delivered bombs are just as deadly as American-delivered bombs, the point is that the media refuses to cover America’s illegal aggression in Syria in the same way it has relentlessly covered Russia’s bombardment of Aleppo last year – even though Russia’s air campaign appears to have more legitimacy than the coalition does.

“The coalition has made much of its precision munitions and that has played a role in reducing harm on civilian populations,” Chris Woods, director of Airwars, told Al Jazeera. “I think, though, that with these major assaults on urban areas, we are seeing the limits of precision warfare.”

Woods added:

“The coalition likes to claim that this is the most precise warfare in history. Precision tells you where the bomb goes, not what happens there after it’s landed. So when the coalition is dropping these bombs on heavily populated areas, it often has a devastating effect.”

Meanwhile, having successfully destroyed much of Raqqa, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reportedly essentially abandoned their campaign in Raqqa and turned their eye to Deir ez-Zor, an oil-rich region in Syria. This particular arena pits the U.S.-backed forces directly against the Iranian and Russian backed forces, which is nothing short of a recipe for a complete disaster.

Pentagon betrapt op vervalsen documenten over wapenleveringen aan terreurgroepen in Syrië.......

Weer is het Pentagon betrapt op het leveren van wapens aan terreurgroepen in Syrië, dit keer niet via gelekte documenten op Wikileaks. In een rapport van 2 clubs die de wapenhandel monitoren, t.w.: het 'Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project' (OCCRP) en het 'Balkan Investigative Reporting Network' (BIRN), valt niet alleen te lezen dat het Pentagon bezig is om (veelal nagemaakte Russische) wapens ter waarde van 2.2 miljard dollar te leveren aan die terreurgroepen, maar ook daadwerkelijk bezig is om de documenten die e.e.a. aantonen te veranderen, zodat het spoor naar het Pentagon niet gevonden kan worden.......

Het OCCRP en BIRN hebben uitvoerig onderzoek gedaan en stuitten daarbij op het feit dat deze wapenleveringen worden geregeld en verzonden vanaf de Balkan en de Caucasus. Het VS ministerie van Defensie heeft voor 2017 en 2018 maar liefst 584 miljoen dollar aan budget gereserveerd voor deze wapenleveringen, daarnaast is er voor 900 miljoen gereserveerd t.b.v. deze terreurgroepen voor de periode van nu tot 2022. Samen met de al uitgegeven kosten komt men op een bedrag van 2,2 miljard (billion) dollar......... (al zou 1,484 miljard dollar ook al geen misselijk bedrag zijn......)

Veel van de wapenhandelaren waar de VS mee samenwerkt en die hen nagemaakte Sovjet wapens leveren, zitten in de Oost-Europese georganiseerde misdaad* en voormalige Sovjet republieken als Kazachstan, Georgië en Oekraïne....... Daarnaast heeft één van de munitiefabrieken in Oost-Europa aangekondigd 1.000 extra personeelsleden aan te trekken, om aan de vraag (van de VS) te kunnen voldoen..........

Pentagon Caught Falsifying Paperwork for Weapons Transfers to Syrian Rebels

(ZHE) — A new bombshell joint report issued by two international weapons monitoring groups Tuesday confirms that the Pentagon continues to ship record breaking amounts of weaponry into Syria and that the Department of Defense is scrubbing its own paper trail. On Tuesday the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) produced conclusive evidence that not only is the Pentagon currently involved in shipping up to $2.2 billion worth of weapons from a shady network of private dealers to allied partners in Syria – mostly old Soviet weaponry – but is actually manipulating paperwork such as end-user certificates, presumably in order to hide US involvement.

The OCCRP and BIRN published internal US defense procurement files after an extensive investigation which found that the Pentagon is running a massive weapons trafficking pipeline which originates in the Balkans and Caucuses, and ends in Syria and Iraq. The program is ostensibly part of the US train, equip, and assist campaign for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF, a coalition of YPG/J and Arab FSA groups operating primarily in Syria’s east). The arms transfers are massive and the program looks to continue for years. According to Foreign Policy’s (FP) coverage of the report:

The Department of Defense has budgeted $584 million specifically for this Syrian operation for the financial years 2017 and 2018, and has earmarked another $900 million of spending on Soviet-style munitions between now and 2022. The total, $2.2 billion, likely understates the flow of weapons to Syrian rebels in the coming years.

But perhaps more shocking is the following admission that Pentagon suppliers have links with known criminal networks, also from FP:

According to the report, many of the weapons suppliers — primarily in Eastern Europe but also in the former Soviet republics, including Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Ukraine — have both links to organized crime throughout Eastern Europe and spotty business records.

The sheer amount of material necessary for the Pentagon program — one ammunition factory announced it planned to hire 1,000 new employees in 2016 to help cope with the demand — has reportedly stretched suppliers to the limit, forcing the Defense Department to relax standards on the materials it’s willing to accept.

It is likely that the organized crime association is the reason why the Pentagon has sought to alter its records. In addition, the sheer volume of weaponry continuing to ship to the Syrian battlefield and other parts of the Middle East means inevitable proliferation among unsavory terror groups – a phenomenon which has already been exhaustively documented in connection with the now reportedly closed CIA program to topple the Syrian government. The associations and alliances among some of the Arab former FSA groups the DoD continues to support in the north and east remains fluid, which means means US-supplied weapons will continue to pass among groups with no accountability for where they end up.

One of the authors of the OCCRP/BIRN report, Ivan Angelovski, told Foreign Policy that, “The Pentagon is removing any evidence in their procurement records that weapons are actually going to the Syrian opposition.” The report is based on internal US government memos which reveal that weapons shipment destination locations have been scrubbed from original documents.

Balkan Insight, which is hosting the original investigative report: “Seven US procurement documents were whitewashed to remove reference to ‘Syria’ after reporters contacted the Pentagon to enquire about whether the exporting countries – Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine and Georgia – had been informed of the destination.”

The fact that Foreign Policy, which is the foremost establishment national security publication in the world, would admit that the Pentagon’s Syria weapons procurement program is tied to East European organized crime is itself hugely significant. At this point the evidence is simply so overwhelming that even establishment sources like FP – which itself has generally been pro-interventionist on Syria – can’t deny it.

FP further reports that the Pentagon program “appears to be turbocharging a shadowy world of Eastern European arms dealers.” And adds further that, “the Pentagon is reportedly removing documentary evidence about just who will ultimately be using the weapons, potentially weakening one of the bulwarks of international protocols against illicit arms dealing.”

Notice the map denotes that prior CIA weapons went directly to Idlib province (northwest, section in green) and the Golan border region (south). Both of these areas were and continue to be occupied by al-Qaeda (in Idlib, AQ’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham). In Idlib specifically, analysts have confirmed genocidal cleansing of religious minorities conducted by AQ “rebels” directly assisted by CIA weapons.

Late last month we featured the story of Bulgarian journalist Dilyana Gaytandzhieva, who was fired from her job after being interrogated by national intelligence officials for exposing the same Pentagon arms network which is the subject of the latest OCCRP/BIRN investigation. At the time, Al Jazeera was the only major international outlet which covered the story, which confirmed that Bulgarian agents interrogated Gaytandzhieva and “tried to find out her sources.” An anonymous source had leaked a large trove of internal government files connected to the arms trafficking to the East European-based Trud Newspaper journalist, which was the basis of her reporting. The newest investigation released Tuesday appears to include some of the same documents, also confirmed by Gayandzhieva.

'Strijd tegen IS' in Syrië, kan simpel escaleren tot volledige oorlog met Syrië, Iran en zelfs Rusland......

Afgelopen woensdag ontving ik een artikel van Anti-Media waarin Shahtahmasebi de huidige situatie in Syrië beschrijft en zaken noemt, waarover de reguliere, zogenaamd onafhankelijke (massa-) media niet berichten.

De situatie in Syrië escaleert in redelijk tempo, aldus Shahtahmasebi, waarbij hij onder meer wijst op het neerschieten van een Syrische jager, door de illegaal in Syrië aanwezige VS. Dit werd gevolgd door het neerschieten van een Iraanse drone, door dezelfde terreurentiteit. Beide toestellen waren bezig IS te bestrijden. Volgens de VS waren deze toestellen bezig met het bestoken van door haar gesteunde 'gematigde rebellen' (lees: psychopathische moordenaars en verkrachters)........ Onlangs nog nam de VS het besluit Al Qaida Syrië van de terreurlijst te halen............

Shahtahmasebi vraagt zich af wat er echt gaande is in Syrië en of de VS uit is op een volledige oorlog met Syrië, Iran en Rusland......

De VS steunt de Koerden, dit zeer tegen de zin van Turkije, de VS doet dit vooral om straks in Koerdisch gebied een grote permanente VS basis te kunnen bouwen. Dit uiteraard niet alleen tegen de zin van Turkije, maar ook van Syrië, Iran en Rusland, de laatste twee zijn overigens wel legaal aanwezig in Syrië, immers de democratisch gekozen regering Assad heeft hen om hulp gevraagd.

Je kan rustig stellen, dat de Koerden zich laten misbruiken door de uiterst agressieve VS....

Zo zijn de Koeren ook bezig om Deir ez-Zor te veroveren*, voorts wil de VS dat de strategische grensstad al-Waleed (in het artikel van A-M: al-Tanf) in handen komt van de Koerden (door de VS en reguliere westerse media: Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) genoemd...). Al-Waleed is een stad op de grens met Irak en Jordanië, vandaar ook zeer belangrijk. Deir ez-Zor is na Raqqa het laatste gebied in handen van IS, de stad is nu in handen van het reguliere Syrische leger. Dat laatste heeft ervoor gezorgd dat de VS strijders van IS vrije doorgang met hun voertuigen en wapens hebben gegeven vanuit Raqqa (zoals eerder uit het Iraakse Mosul). Het gebied van Deir ez-Zor is voorts belangrijk vanwege grote olievoorraden.....

Kortom Shahtahmasebi ziet alle mogelijkheden voor een nog snellere escalatie van de oorlog in Syrië, waar hij het gelijk aan zijn kant heeft, niet zo moeilijk gezien het steeds agressiever optreden van de VS, dezelfde VS die niets, maar dan ook niets te zoeken heeft in Syrië..... Een verdere escalatie zal hoogstwaarschijnlijk leiden tot een oorlog met Iran en Rusland.......

Vergeet bij het voorgaande niet, dat de VS al onder Reagan bezig was met het plannen van een oorlog tegen Syrië, iets dat men in 2006 weer ter hand nam. De opstand die in 2011 uitbrak in Syrië is dan ook gepland en gefinancierd door de VS, met hulp van Groot-Brittannië, Saoedi-Arabië en Egypte. Een opstand die tot een staatsgreep tegen Assad had moeten leiden, maar totaal mislukte! (in Oekraïne gebruikte de VS hetzelfde scenario, daar lukte het wel.....)

Everything You’re Not Being Told About the US War Against ISIS in Syria

(ANTIMEDIA) — It’s time to have a sane discussion regarding what is going on in Syria. Things have escalated exponentially over the past month or so, and they continue to escalate. The U.S. just shot down yet another Iranian-made drone within Syrian territory on Tuesday, even as authorities insist they “do not seek conflict with any party in Syria other than ISIS.”

Col. Ryan Dillon, chief U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, seemed to indicate that the coalition would avoid escalating the conflict following Russia’s warning that it will now treat American aircraft as potential targets. He stated:

“As a result of recent encounters involving pro-Syrian regime and Russian forces, we have taken prudent measures to reposition aircraft over Syria so as to continue targeting ISIS forces while ensuring the safety of our aircrews given known threats in the battlespace.”

So what is really going on in Syria? Is the U.S. actually seeking an all-out confrontation with Syria, Iran, and Russia?

The first thing to note is that a policy switch under the Trump administration has seen the U.S. rely heavily on Kurdish fighters on the ground as opposed to the radical Gulf-state backed Islamist rebels, which the U.S. and its allies had been using in their proxy war for over half a decade. Even the Obama administration designated the Kurds the most effective fighting force against ISIS and partnered with them from time to time, but Turkey’s decision to directly strike these fighters complicates the matter to this day.

Further muddling the situation is the fact that the U.S. wants the Kurds to claim key Syrian cities after ISIS is defeated, including Raqqa. However, the reason this complicates matters is that, as Joshua Landis, head of the Middle Eastern Studies Center at the University of Oklahoma explains, the Kurds have “no money” nor do they have an air force.

“[T]hey’ll be entirely dependent on the US Air Force from now to eternity, and the United States will be stuck in a quagmire, defending a new Kurdish state that America had partnered with to defeat [ISIL],” Landis said, as reported by Quartz.

So what has the U.S. proposed as a solution to this perpetual dilemma? To put it simply, the U.S. is not only training the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to retain the vitally strategic border crossing area of al-Tanf, which, if owned and operated by the Syrian government, could link Iran to Syria, Iraq, and right through to Hezbollah in Lebanon (incidentally, al-Tanf is the latest instance of the U.S. shooting down an Iranian-made drone took place). The U.S. is now also backing these Kurdish fighters to retake an area known as Deir ez-Zor.

The Syrian government retains an isolated outpost at Deir ez-Zor, and the region is almost completely encircled by ISIS fighters. Just last week, a video emerged of convoys of ISIS fighters fleeing the war in Raqqa unscathed. Anti-Media speculated that these fighters were most likely headed towards Deir ez-Zor as they have done in the past, and this area is now widely regarded to be the scene of ISIS’ last stand in Syria.

The U.S. needs a strong ISIS presence in Deir ez-Zor to justify an offensive to retake the city, especially considering the fact that Syrian government troops are already present there. This is why the U.S. delivered airstrikes to stop government forces from repelling ISIS fighters in an air raid in September of last year that reportedly lasted well over an hour and killed over 60 government troops.

Deir ez-Zor is immensely important because it is home to Syria’s largest oil fields. As Quartz explains, according to Landis, America’s strategy is “for the Kurdish forces to take Deir al-Zour, the major regional city and the hub for its oil fields. That way, the Kurds would be able to afford to buy airplanes from the US, rather than require Washington to give them for free.”

As Iranian-backed militiamen — supported by Iranian-made drones — amass upon a U.S. training base in al-Tanf, it is becoming increasingly clear that the Syrian government and its allies will not want to cede strategic territory to the U.S. without a fight. At the very least, Iran intends to encircle al-Tanf and cut the U.S. off from the rest of Syria, rendering the base useless for America’s goals in the country.

However, Deir ez-Zor is where things could potentially get more heated than they already are between the U.S. and the pro-Assad alliance in al-Tanf and Raqqa.

Russia, a staunch ally of Iran and Syria, is already bombing the areas around Deir ez-Zor in full preparation for this battle. According to the Independent, Russia just claimed it killed around 180 ISIS militants and two prominent commanders, Abu Omar al-Belijiki and Abu Yassin al-Masri, very close to ISIS’ stronghold in Deir ez-Zor.

Iran launched a mid-range ballistic missile attack on a position in Deir ez-Zor over the weekend, as well. According to Military Times, Iranian officials said the purpose of the strike was to send a message to the United States and Saudi Arabia and have warned of more strikes to come, with former Guard chief Gen. Mohsen Rezai — an Iranian politician — stating “[t]he bigger slap is yet to come.”

Landis believes these recent escalations only mark a “gnashing of teeth and growling” between the Russians and the Americans and that both powers are merely working out where the new boundaries will fall between American-backed forces and Syrian government forces.

But there is a crucial difference between the Russian-led campaigns and the American-led campaigns within Syria: Russia was invited by the Syrian government and is not clearly not attempting to invade Syria in the traditional sense of the word, as they are relying on local troops to retake the territory that still belongs to the Syrian government. In contrast, the United States has invaded Syrian territory without authorization from Congress or the international community and has partnered with incredibly controversial militias on the ground to claim Syrian territory, further partitioning the country and over-complicating an already convoluted battle arena.

And what will happen if Syria decides that the oil-hub area of Deir ez-Zor is too important to allow the U.S.-backed forces to take it away from them? The fact that Russia and Iran are already bombing this area speaks volumes as to its strategic value, and it seems increasingly unlikely that the pro-Assad alliance will give up the location freely.

Further, having complete control of Deir ez-Zor without opening up the al-Tanf border to Syrian government control would make the liberation of Deir ez-Zor almost meaningless to Syria and its allies, as Deir ez-Zor would be cut off from the rest of Syria. The two offensives go hand in hand, and this is exactly why we see the war escalating rapidly on these two fronts.

Not to mention, Syrian Member of Parliament Ammar al-Asad reportedly just told Russian state-owned Sputnik that the Syrian army will respond to America’s provocative actions by conducting “massive strikes” on positions held by American-backed militants.

An optimist would view the recent developments in the humanitarian disaster that is the so-called Syrian revolution with the hope that the U.S., Iran, and Russia are merely muscle-flexing inside Syria in an attempt to control as much of the country as realistically possible following the downfall of ISIS – and will eventually settle amicably on a drawing of Syria’s new boundaries.

A pessimist might not be so hopeful, as Iran and China held naval drills in the Strait of Hormuz just days after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson admitted the U.S. is officially targeting Iran for a regime change operation.
