Trump heeft de welgestelden middels het terugbrengen van belastingtarieven een cadeau gegeven van 1,5 biljoen dollar..... Dezelfde Trump (en zijn administratie) zijn nu van zins om voor 4,5 miljard dollar te bezuinigen op voedselhulp voor arme gezinnen.......

Hoe is het gvd mogelijk dat zoveel politici de VS nog steeds als lichtend voorbeeld zien?? Hoe is het mogelijk dat men zich nog steeds schikt naar de eisen van de VS, zoals kiezen voor de JSF, een waardeloze jager die zich nog net kan meten met een straaljager uit de 70er jaren.... Of wat dacht je van de 'defensie' uitgaven: reken maar dat Nederland over een paar jaar 2% van het bbp aan defensie uh oorlog zal uitgeven, ook al weet men dondersgoed dat de VS zo achterlijk veel uitgeeft aan het ministerie van oorlog door de volgende zaken: -alle illegale oorlogen die dit land voert, -de duizenden standrechtelijke executies middels drones, -de geheime militaire missies onder bevel van de CIA, -de meer dan 800 militaire bases die dit gestolen land over de wereld heeft en voor -de geheime gevangenissen die de CIA her en der heeft.....

Als het plan doorgaat om op voedselhulp te bezuinigen, laat de VS ten overvloede nog eens zien dat het ook terreur in eigen land uitoefent....

Afgelopen dinsdag was het weer zover toen ik een artikel van Jake Johnson op CommonDreams las, daarin het ongehoorde voorstel van de Trump administratie om 3 miljoen VS burgers hun voedselbonnen af te nemen, terwijl men een oorlogsbudget heeft opgetuigd dat nooit eerder zo hoog was........ De Trump administratie wil bijvoorbeeld arme gezinnen de voedselbonnen afnemen als zij door de nationale overheid of de staat waarin ze wonen worden gesteund met zaken als de kosten voor huisvesting en kinderopvang......

De VS wordt overduidelijk fascistisch bestuurt en met name de grote onderlaag, zo'n 60 miljoen mensen die afhankelijk zijn van voedselbonnen, zijn het grote slachtoffer van dit ijskoude, inhumane beleid...... Mensen zullen zonder deze voedselbonnen, waar ze niet worden geholpen door goede doelen organisaties of kerken, honger moeten leiden, nogmaals: dit in een land waar het oorlogsbudget zo groot is dat het de defensiebudgetten overtreft van alle andere landen op de wereld bij elkaar......

Westerse politici zien de VS als het grote voorbeeld dat men graag na-aapt, zodat wij nu ook met een krankzinnige gezondheidszorg zitten, waardoor zelfs ziekenhuizen failliet gaan en velen de premie niet meer op kunnen brengen, hoe is het gvd allemaal mogelijk....????

'Unconscionable': Trump USDA Proposes New Rule to Strip Food Stamps From Over 3 Million Americans

The proposal, said Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, would "take food away from families, prevent children from getting school meals, and make it harder for states to administer food assistance."

In a move critics denounced as the Trump administration's latest effort to bypass Congress to attack low-income families, the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Tuesday proposed a new rule that would strip food stamps from more than three million Americans.

USDA chief Sonny Perdue, in a call with reporters Monday, said the rule change would end automatic food stamp eligibility for those receiving other forms of federal and state assistance. The 60-day comment period on the proposal is set to begin Wednesday.

As the Washington Post reported: "Current rules give states latitude to raise SNAP income eligibility limits so that low-income families with housing and child care costs that consume a sizable share of their income, can continue to receive help affording adequate food."

"This option also allows states to adopt less restrictive asset tests," according to the Post, "so that families, seniors, and people with a disability can have modest savings or own their own home without losing SNAP benefits."

"This proposal is yet another attempt by this administration to circumvent Congress and make harmful changes to nutrition assistance that have been repeatedly rejected on a bipartisan basis."

Tens of millions of people suffer from hunger and food insecurity each year in the United States, and the SNAP program is widely recognized by experts as an effective way to reduce hunger—particularly among children.

Policy experts, lawmakers, and commentators warned the Trump administration's proposed rule—described by one critic as "unconscionable"—would increase hunger among vulnerable Americans.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), the top Democrat on the Senate Agriculture Committee, said in a statement Tuesday that the rule would "take food away from families, prevent children from getting school meals, and make it harder for states to administer food assistance."

"This proposal," added Stabenow, "is yet another attempt by this administration to circumvent Congress and make harmful changes to nutrition assistance that have been repeatedly rejected on a bipartisan basis."

As Common Dreams reported in April, the Trump administration is also moving to add punitive work requirements to the SNAP program, a proposal that was met with a flood of angry comments from across the nation.

"This is a direct attack on the most vulnerable among us, and this policy violence cannot go unchallenged," Rev. William Barber, co-chair of the national Poor People's Campaign, said at the time.

Trump tekent 'executive order' om GMO voedsel in de schappen te krijgen zonder waarschuwing op het label

Op 11 juni jl. heeft Trump een 'executive order' gelanceerd waarmee de 'strenge regels' t.a.v. gentech voedsel (zowel genetisch gemanipuleerde planten als dieren....) teniet moeten worden gedaan...... 'Strenge regels' tussen aanhalingstekens, daar die regels in de VS allesbehalve streng zijn.......

Trump wil genetische manipulatie van planten en dieren o.a. om de voedselveiligheid te verbeteren..... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Voor ons zal e.e.a. betekenen dat we straks met een vrijhandelsverdrag als TTIP te maken krijgen, waarin de VS gewaarborgd wil hebben dat gentech producten, hetzij plantaardig dan wel dierlijk, ook in de schappen van onze supermarkten zullen worden aangeboden..... Waar geheime rechtbanken (ISDS) zullen zorgen dat de bedrijven die dergelijke producten aanbieden aan het langste eind trekken en waarbij wij fiks zullen moeten inleveren op voedselveiligheid...... 

Voedselveiligheid een woord dat met een groot aantal producten al geweld wordt aangedaan, neem met gif platgespoten fruit en groente uit arme landen, waar Nederlandse telers zich niet hoeven te houden aan 'de strenge regels' zoals die hier gelden, maar wel hun producten uit die landen mogen verkopen op de Nederlandse markt.........

Trump heeft met deze order ook opdracht gegeven aan de 'minister' die over landbouw en veeteelt gaat, de bevolking te onderrichten over GMO voedsel en dat dit 'volkomen veilig is voor consumptie.......' 

Overigens opvallend 'weinig aandacht' in de reguliere media voor deze stap van het beest Trump, niet in de laatste plaats daar de plutocraten en investeerders die deze media in handen hebben, 'niet zelden' grote aandelenpakketten hebben in firma's als Bayer-Monsanto.......

Overigens is ook de EU voor een fiks deel tegen het duidelijk etiketteren van GMO voedsel, maar ja, de EU is er dan ook in de eerste plaats voor bedrijven en welgestelden, waar de EU bevolking ergens achteraan hangt.... Ofwel: ook hier gaan de centen ver voor op de volksgezondheid.....

Trump Just Made It a Lot Easier for GMOs to Enter the Food Supply

President Trump issued an executive order aimed at "streamlining" GMO regulations in the US.

(TMU) — On June 11, President Donald Trump quietly issued an executive order to “streamline” GMO regulations in the United States. The order, titled Modernizing the Regulatory Framework for Agricultural Biotechnology Products, is the latest move by the Trump administration aimed at promoting the use of genetically engineered or modified crops.

In his executive order, Trump called on federal agencies to fix what he called a “regulatory maze” related to the farming and selling of GMO products.

The executive order states:

“Biotechnology can help the Nation meet its food production needs, raise the productivity of the American farmer, improve crop and animal characteristics, increase the nutritional value of crop and animal products, and enhance food safety. In order to realize these potential benefits, however, the United States must employ a science-based regulatory system that evaluates products based on human health and safety and potential benefits and risks to the environment. Such a system must both foster public confidence in biotechnology and avoid undue regulatory burdens.“

The order goes on to instruct the Secretary of Agriculture and other officials to “develop an action plan to facilitate engagement with consumers in order to build public confidence in, and acceptance of, the use of safe biotechnology in agriculture and the food system” [emphasis added].

The executive order also lays out plans for the Trump administration to work with other nations in developing GMO policies. Section 8 of the order gives the Ag Secretary and Secretary of State 180 days to develop an international communications and outreach strategy to facilitate engagement abroad with policymakers, consumers, industry, and other stakeholders.

Additionally, the order calls on the Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Food and Drug Administration to design a website that contains and provides links to relevant United States Government regulatory information.

Greg Jaffe, biotechnology director at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, told the Associated Press that the impact of the order depends on how the federal government responds. “There needs to be an assurance of safety for those products,” Jaffe said.

The topic of genetically engineered food has been controversial for years. Scientists, health advocates, and concerned citizens have been raising questions about the technology over the last decade, including activists forming global marches against biotechnology giant Monsanto between 2013 and 2016.

More recently, criticism of GMOs has centered around labeling laws. To understand the current battle for labeling genetically engineered foods, one must look back to 2015. At that time, the controversial Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act passed the House in June before ultimately failing amid heavy opposition.

To critics, the bill was known as the “DARK” (Deny Americans the Right to Know) Act because the law was also aimed at nullifying GMO labeling measures, such as a state labeling bill passed in Vermont. Mike Pompeo, author of the bill, criticized mandatory labeling laws as unnecessarily costly and insisted a federal standard was the answer.

In late February 2016, U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts introduced another bill which attempted to create a federal voluntary standard for labeling GE food. Roberts’ Senate Bill 2609, or the Biotech Labeling Solutions Act, would have blocked mandatory labeling efforts by states.

In March 2016, the bill failed to reach the 60 votes needed during a procedural vote, with 49 votes in favor and 48 votes against. However, by July 2016 the labeling measure was added to the National Sea Grant College Program Act as the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard. It was that measure which was ultimately signed into law by Obama, placing the U.S. Department of Agriculture in charge of labeling America’s genetically engineered food supply.

Under the Trump administration, the battle for labeling has died down largely due to a lack of reporting in the mainstream press and misinformation which falsely tells Americans that labeling rights have been won.

However, in July 2018, an analysis of proposed rule changes revealed that thousands of genetically engineered foods may be exempt from upcoming labeling requirements. In early May 2018, the Department of Agriculture released a draft rule describing how the labeling law is supposed to be implemented.

Between May and July 3, the USDA received 14,008 public comments.

The comments indicate that some of the public is concerned about the language used in the rule. “The term bioengineered should not be used. It is both misleading and confusing to consumers. GMO, GE or Genetic Engineering should be used instead,” one commenter writes. “Please make all food items labeled correctly as GMO so consumers know exactly what they are purchasing,” another said.

The Environmental Working Group reports that if companies want to label foods which are made with genetically engineered ingredients, they must use the terms “bioengineered” or “bioengineered food ingredient,” instead of the widely known phrases “genetically modified” or “genetically engineered.”

Interestingly, the International Food Information Council (IFIC) recently conducted a survey to see how people respond to these different labels, including new symbols being tested by the USDA. The IFIC found that in every combination of label, the level of concern among consumers increased. In the survey consumers were shown bottles of canola oil without any label, with one of three symbols (plant, sun, or smile), with a symbol plus “bioengineered” on the label, and a symbol with “may be bioengineered” on the label.

As the USDA works to establish a uniform national standard for labeling foods that may be genetically engineered, critics continue to call out the dangers of putting the federal government in charge of the situation. Donald Trump’s recent executive order will only exacerbate the already confusing situation.

Americans who have concerns about the safety of GMOs will have to wrestle with the fact that these products may not be labeled and—with the latest executive order from Trump—will enter the food supply at an increasing pace in the coming years.

Trump heeft met een 'executive order' overheidsorganen de opdracht gegeven om de belemmerende regels op te heffen voor genetische gemanipuleerde dieren en giftige planten (doordat deze planten zijn gemanipuleerd om bestand te zijn tegen gif als glyfosaat, zitten deze planten vol met dat kankerverwekkende gif.....).

Kortom geen of veel te weinig onderzoek meer naar de schadelijke gevolgen van gentechvoedsel, waar bovendien te verwachten is dat bijvoorbeeld op etiketten van maaltijden waarin gentechvoedsel is verwerkt, niet meer mag worden vermeld dat daar gentechvoedsel in zit, het zou oneerlijke concurrentie zijn t.a.v. niet gemanipuleerd voedsel.... Anders gezegd: deze maatregel 'is noodzakelijk' daar een flink aantal consumenten gentechvoedsel in de supermarkten laten staan als daarop is aangegeven dat het onderdelen bevat die genetisch gemanipuleerd zijn......

De volgende stap zal druk van de VS zijn op landen die voedsel uit de VS importeren, om gentech voedsel toe te staan op hun binnenlandse markt...... Dit is uitermate gevaarlijk daar de EU al vanaf het aantreden van Trump bezig is met een peperdure lobby in Washington om het TTIP (vrijhandels-) verdrag getekend te krijgen door de Trump administratie......

In dit TTIP verdrag zit een clausule over geheime rechtbanken (ISDS) waar grote bedrijven afzonderlijke landen kunnen aanklagen voor het weigeren van hun producten, zoals in dit geval gentechvoedsel..... In de praktijk van dit soort verdragen is al te zien dat de bedrijven voor meer dan 90% aan het langste eind trekken en de landen deze producten moeten toestaan op hun binnenlandse markt....... De rechtszaken zijn geheim voor het publiek, daar men anders de producten van smeerpijpen als Bayer zal laten staan (Bayer heeft Monsanto overgenomen, de producent van Roundup, waarvan glyfosaat een belangrijk onderdeel is)........

Trump bewijst ten overvloede nog eens schijt te hebben aan de gezondheid van het volk in de VS en elders, hij is alleen uit op het nog rijker maken van welgestelden en bedrijven, zelfs al moet hij daarvoor de hele wereld vergiftigen met zaken als glyfosaat en de natuur bloot stelt aan genetische gemanipuleerde dieren en planten, waarvan de eerste gevolgen al desastreus zijn te noemen.......... Ach ja, eens een onverantwoordelijke, inhumane rotschoft, seksist en moorddadig psychopaat........

BREAKING: Trump green lights GMO foods

President Trump gave genetically engineered organisms (GMOs) a free pass this week when he signed an executive order directing federal agencies to scale back on regulations of these toxic crops and foods. This could allow new GMO foods and animals to be grown and brought to market without any testing, oversight, or scientific review! 

But just because Trump orders the deregulation of GMOs does not mean that it’s a done deal. EPA, FDA, and USDA have to make any changes to the GMO regulations that Trump wants available to the public, and that’s where we come in. Center for Food Safety (CFS) will be vigilant in tracking these changes and fight to halt every one of these illegal actions in court. 

Can you help CFS’s legal and science teams prevent the mass approvals of untested GMO crops and foods by becoming a monthly donor?

Under this new executive order, any new GMO crops or animals—such as GMO pigs—could appear in the supermarket without having gone through any federal scientific review for potential environmental or human health harms. With this order (which is a boon to pesticide and GMO corporations such as Bayer/Monsanto and Dow/Dupont), Trump is showing his complete disregard for farmers, human health, and the environment.

The executive order would also enlist government agencies in a “domestic engagement” campaign to further deceive and confuse the public about the true nature of GMOs. It also includes an “international outreach” component to force other countries to accept GMOs that they don’t want!

This move from the Trump administration comes just one week after the USDA issued a proposed rule to sharply limit and weaken the regulation of GMOs that fall under its jurisdiction. CFS is prepared to challenge this newly proposed rule which is now set to exclude the majority of GMO crops from any regulation whatsoever.

In addition to our lawsuits to stop the newest hazardous GMOs and their companion pesticides, CFS has also sued the FDA to reverse its irresponsible approval of genetically engineered salmon in order to prevent its certain escape and resulting havoc on native salmon. We’ve also petitioned the government to protect the iconic monarch butterfly from the GMO-driven use of glyphosate, which kills the monarch’s host plant.

De economische en ecologische gezondheid van bossen in Alaska

Hoe kan je het volk nog harder belazeren dan ooit voor mogelijk gehouden? Niet zelden komt daar een antwoord op, vooral van neoliberale politici, echter in het hieronder opgenomen artikel is het een ambtenaar van het Unites States Department of Agriculture (USDA), boswachter David Schmidt, die spreekt over de 'ecologische en economische gezondheid van bossen'.

In een lullig en uiterst tegen strijdig schrijven stelt deze flapdrol dat de bossen van Alaska beschermd kunnen worden en er tegelijk grote commerciële activiteiten kunnen worden ontwikkeld.... Alsof een arts een longpatiënt die nooit gerookt heeft, het advies geeft te gaan roken en in de buurt van grote wegen te gaan wonen....

Opvallend trouwens: in ons land pleiten de VVD, het CDA, de PvdA, CU en PVV er al langer voor commerciële activiteiten te ontwikkelen in het kleine beetje natuur dat we nog hebben......

ALASKA ROADLESS RULES

As we move forward with developing an Alaska Roadless Rule, two themes emerge from Alaskans about the Tongass National Forest. Whether they support or oppose the current rule, I hear that 1) the forest is unique and requires unique regulation, 2) the forest offers an abundance of opportunities.

Imagine that we can do what is best for Alaska in terms of how we influence the ecological and economic health of the forest; are mindful of the demand for restoration and recreation; grow more jobs through timber, tourism, commercial fishing, and mining; and increase access for transportation and utility infrastructure. Now imagine we can do all this while we further protect the environment, fish and wildlife habitats, and subsistence activities.

The roadless rulemaking process provides an opportunity for everyone to be a part of this historic effort. I invite you to look for opportunities on the timeline offered in this bulletin and to participate during comment periods when announced; ask us to present a Roadless Rulemaking Overview for your organization or community; attend public meetings; or simply follow the process through this bulletin and the information resources that are available.

By working together—citizens, tribal governments, state and municipal governments, Alaska Native corporations, and other constituency groups—we can accomplish our combined goal to support the rural communities of Alaska, while conserving lands that are important to all Americans and to visitors from other countries.

Bovendien zullen veel boeren die ecologische gewassen telen, hun certificaat verliezen, doordat het gif waarmee deze manlijke motten, de vrouwelijke motten bij de voortplanting vergiftigen, in het milieu en op plantmateriaal terecht zal komen......

Oppose Release of Genetically Engineered Moth in NY

Help stop a dangerous plan hatched in New York to control a caterpillar in cabbage. Under the plan, up to 10,000 genetically engineered (GE) male diamondback moths (DBMs) will be released each week during the cabbage planting cycle (which runs about three to four months). According to USDA, “The males are genetically engineered with a lethal gene that they pass on to females when they mate.”

Because of the widespread release, this plan –a first of its kind in food crops– will contaminate organic farms with genetically engineered material. And, this is all being done based on a cursory environmental assessment, without an in-depth environmental impact assessment.

This is an issue that affects all of us –not just New Yorkers–because the moths do not respect state boundaries, and this action would set a precedent for other states.

Following a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) by USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) on Cornell University’s proposed release, there is an urgent need to ensure that the state of New York addresses contamination issues that APHIS failed to consider. At the top of the list is possible contamination of organic crops, which could threaten the standing of organic products with consumers and holds the threat of decertification. Other  contamination concerns are raised by scientists at the Center for Food Safety, Food and Water Watch, and GeneWatch UK.

The FONSI absolves APHIS from the duty to perform an in-depth environmental impact statement (EIS) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York (NOFA-NY) points out that this is the first food use of this particular kind of GE technology –using a genetically engineered male to produce inviable female offspring— and, as such, deserves the full investigation of an EIS, rather than the more cursory evaluation of the environmental assessment that led to the FONSI.

In addition to NEPA, New York state law requires a state agency to conduct a review under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR) when it uses its "discretionary" authority to approve, fund, or directly undertake an action that may affect the environment. In order to release the insects, Cornell must receive a permit under New York Environmental Conservation Law §11-0507 from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), as it did for the release of caged insects in the past. 

However, DEC has denied responsibility for permitting the action. As a university with a state extension service, Cornell is subject to SEQR. If Cornell or DEC does not perform the required EIS, enforcement is up to citizens. According to the DEC website, “[C]itizens or groups who can demonstrate that they may be harmed by this failure may take legal action. . . . Project approvals may be rescinded by a court and a new review required under SEQR. New York State's court system has consistently ruled in favor of strong compliance with the provisions of SEQR.” NOFA-NY has made a strong showing that organic growers may be harmed by this release.

Organic growers may be harmed if the moths escape from the research plots. The engineered trait is designed to leave behind dead moth larvae and pupae resulting from the mating of the engineered males with wild females. These residues, if left on organic crops (cabbage, broccoli, and other brassica plants), could threaten the standing of organic products with consumers and threaten decertification. In addition, there are plausible scenarios that would result in release of viable DBMs, which could increase damage to crops.

In general, the environmental assessment performed by APHIS ignored a number of important issues, including: contamination of crops with GE dead insects; the impacts on the ecological balance of native brassicas; the lack of research on the migration of DBMs from site to site; impacts in the future if engineered DBMs are released in commercial agriculture; other alternatives besides “no action,” such as the systems approach used by organic growers; the lack of adequate monitoring and buffer zones; food safety; impacts on predators; antibiotic resistance as a result from the use of tetracycline in breeding the moths; other ecological effects; and movement of the DBM across international borders.

Voice your opposition to the release of genetically engineered DBMs to Cornell University (which proposes to release the moths), DEC (which is responsible for state permits of releases of wild animals), and Governor Cuomo (who is responsible for ensuring that state agencies meet their responsibilities.)
