De VS is rijp voor fascistisch bestuur, wat zeg ik.......

Democraten en de reguliere media in de VS hebben de laatste jaren aangeduid als een politiek vacuüm, de jaren onder Trump, waar men volkomen voorbijgaat aan het feit dat Trump een logisch gevolg was van een al decennialange bestaande omarming van het ijskoude, inhumane neoliberalisme, m.i. niets anders dan een andere verschijningsvorm van fascisme en mocht je daaraan twijfelen, zou je toch moeten zien dat het op zeker een aanloop is naar een volledig fascistisch regeringsbeleid in de VS en andere westerse staten......

Vergeet niet dat de fascistische partijen (en ingeval van de PVV een beweging), zelfs binnen de EU met elke verkiezing groter worden... Met de laatste verkiezingen daar is Groot-Brittannië een uitzondering, echter daarbij moet je wel bedenken dat de Tories en nu zelfs Labour onder opperploert Starmer de fascisten van Ukip de wind deels uit de zeilen hebben genomen (terwijl de vraag blijft staan hoe Ukip het bij de volgende Britse verkiezingen zal doen....)

De laatste jaren en zeker het laatste jaar (vanwege e Coronacrisis) hebben westerse en andere regeringen op grote schaal de burgerrechten hebben uitgekleed, zogenaamd om deze na de Coronacrisis te herstellen en terug te gaan naar 'het normale leven', echter de (ook recente) geschiedenis laat zien dat het maar zelden gebeurt dat men terugkomt op genomen beleid, neem bijvoorbeeld het beleid op gebied van terrorisme. Men heeft allerlei maatregelen genomen, waarbij geheime diensten en politie een groot aantal extra bevoegdheden hebben gekregen, alles gelegitimeerd met de dooddoener van 'de strijd tegen terreur', maar deze bevoegdheden zullen op zeker niet worden teruggedraaid, ook al zou terreur een zachte dood sterven....... (en dat zal niet gebeuren)

Men maakt het publiek bang voor die terreur (dat doen zowel politici, de geheime diensten als de media), terwijl je oneindig veel meer kans loopt te overlijden dan wel zwaar gewond te raken ten gevolge van een ongeval, of dat nu binnens- of buitenshuis is....... Op grond van die angst worden maatregelen genomen waarvan het overgrote deel van de bevolking de gevolgen niet kan overzien waar dit toe kan leiden >> een totale controle staat, ofwel een politiestaat waarbij de politiek alleen nog een ondergeschikte rol zal spelen om de burgers de idee te geven dat men nog in een democratie leeft........

Als je gelooft dat men deze maatregelen terug zal draaien mocht morgen elke terreur zijn overwonnen, moet ik je zoals gezegd teleurstellen, dat zal (zoals jezelf waarschijnlijk al lang begrijpt) nooit gebeuren, zeker niet zolang het machtige westen elders illegale oorlogen uitvecht, staatsgrepen organiseert (en dat maar al te vaak tegen democratisch gekozen regeringen), geheime uiterst gewelddadige militaire acties uitvoert en willekeurig mensen opblaast middels drones, waarbij meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers niet eens werd verdacht van een misdaad, standrechtelijke executies van verdachten en 'bijkomende schade' waar geen rechter aan te pas is gekomen...... De westerse volkeren wordt voorgehouden dat deze illegale oorlogen en moorddadige acties noodzakelijk zijn voor de veiligheid van het eigen land, uiteraard een leugen van grote proporties..... (sterker nog: er wordt met deze moorden haat gekweekt tegen het westen en dat zal uiteindelijk tot terrreur leiden op het grondgebied van die westerse landen.......) Deze illegale oorlogen en ander ongeoorloofd geweld staan voor niets anders dan grootschalige westerse terreur!!

De leugen dat westerse terreur noodzakelijk is wordt door de media en zelfs 'Hollywood' tot het oneindige herhaald..... Zag daar gisteravond een 'mooi voorbeeld' van, de Britse film 'Eye in the Sky', over het opblazen van een moskee waar een paar kopstukken van Al-Shabaab verbleven en waarbuiten een meisje brood verkoopt. Alsof men werkelijk begaan is met het lot van het meisje, neemt men uiteindelijk toch de beslissing de moskee met twee door een drone afgeschoten raketten op te blazen (ook daar tegelijk een paar mannen in de moskee worden voorzien van een bomgordel, een zeer onwaarschijnlijk scenario)..... Het meisje komt om het leven door die aanval en de daders en alle anderen die betrokken waren bij die aanval waren zogenaamd zeer geschokt door het gebeuren, terwijl de realiteit laat zien dat men enorm veel aanvallen uitvoert met drones, waarbij meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers zelfs niet werden verdacht van terreur....... (voor een groot deel vrouwen en kinderen....) In de film probeert men de kijker ervan te overtuigen dat het westerse geweld, in dit geval in Nairobi (Kenya), nodig is om de bevolking daar te beschermen....... Het is dat het zo triest is, anders zou je je doodlachen......

Lees het artikel van Nolan Higdon en Mickey Huff, gepubliceerd op CounterPunch en zegt het voort, zoals al even aangeduid in mijn schrijven, ook hier lopen we de kans langzaam maar zeker te belanden in een politiestaat, de controle is al op een punt beland die zwaar doet denken aan het boek 1984 van George Orwell...... (zo wordt hier al censuur uitgeoefend op het internet) Nogmaals de kans dat je het slachtoffer wordt van een terreuraanslag is bijzonder klein en dan wordt die terreur alleen gevoed door westers ingrijpen in landen waar het niets maar dan ook helemaal niets te zoeken heeft, terwijl de politici en de westerse media ons, zoals hiervoor al aangehaald, doen geloven dat men wel moet ingrijpen daar dit in het belang is van onze veiligheid of om zogenaamd democratie te brengen >> alweer: het is dat het zo triest is anders...... Alleen deze eeuw heeft de VS met hulp van de NAVO en dictatoriaal geregeerde arabische staten als Saoedi-Arabië, al meer dan 5 miljoen slachtoffers gemaakt of beter gezegd vermoord, als je denkt dat alle nabestaanden van dat enorme aantal slachtoffers het hierbij laten zitten ben je uiterst naïef..... (en uiteraard weten de westerse regeringen, die meedoen aan de illegale oorlogen van de VS, dondersgoed dat dit een feit is!!)

Ripe for Fascism: A Post-Coup d’Trump Autopsy of American Democracy

For the past few years, the corporate/establishment news media oft analyzed Donald Trump’s presidency in an historical vacuum, ignoring the decades-long, bipartisan embrace of neoliberalism that helped bring about his successful candidacy while focusing sensationally on his cult of reality TV personality. Such bread and circus tunnel vision misses the bigger picture. Trump, even with all his faults, is a symptom of a much larger pattern brought on by increased privatization of the public sphere, especially in the realms of education and media, which go back over half a century, particularly the past forty years. With the continued degradation of these key pillars of our society, our civic and information literacy has suffered greatly at a time when the world has become more complex, and our country more unequal. As a consequence, we have become more partisan, more divided, and more estranged from one another as a society. We argued this in our book, United States of Distraction, and unfortunately our thesis continues to ring true.

Most legacy media outlets sought to persuade voters to choose Joe Biden for president because “democracy is on the ballot” and once Trump was out of office, things would return to normal, we could all go back to “brunch.” However, this analysis overlooks the crucial realities of how we got here and, as Lau Tzu might suggest, where we have been and are heading. The “return to normal” rhetoric distracts from the reality of American democracy: it is in such an emaciated state that a more adept and sophisticated version of Trump could easily come to power. It was our infatuation with what passes for “normal” that brought about this historical moment. The Democracy Index rates the U.S. as a “flawed democracy,” which means that the elections are free and fair, basic civil liberties are respected, but there are underlying issues (e.g. the erosion of the free press and suppression of opposition political parties and viewpoints). Prior to Trump, scholars noted that the U.S. was an oligarchy, not a democratic republic. However, rudimentary corporate news media narratives concerning the so-called “coup” at the U.S. Capital January 6^th leave out crucial realities that can easily lead audiences to glean that Donald Trump and his followers single handedly undermined the American democratic experiment. To be clear, Trump as a person and as a symbol has been responsible for the proliferation of dangerous and disgusting attitudes and behaviors in the U.S. However, we have been heading here for decades. To alter where we are heading, we need to confront certain realties that media narratives distract attention from on a ritual basis.

The first reality is that we have to focus our energies on helping citizens discern fact from fiction. Trump’s behavior is unequivocally reckless, but his rhetoric would have been unsuccessful sans a significant population whose material decline, after 50 years of neoliberal policies, became susceptible to the fake news that permeates the internet. Indeed, their behavior illuminates a rarely discussed aspect of so-called fake news: it is particularly dangerous when it leads people to believe they must take aggressive actions they deem are morally justified. For example, the people at the Capitol would be heroes if there was actually well-sourced, demonstrable factual evidence that 2020 election was stolen. So too would the individual who shot up the restaurant in Pizzagate, to expose a pedophilia ring. In both cases, individuals showed concern for children and democracy, but reacted to false or incomplete information. That is to say, someone is not necessarily a bad person for engaging with fake news, but it can lead them to engage in horrific behavior. We saw this from left leaning voters as well. When it came to Russiagate, the Democrats repeatedly red-baited with the baseless and disproven claims that the Russians aided Bernie Sanders 2020 campaign, colluded with Trump’s 2016 campaign, shut down a Vermont power plant, put a bounty on U.S. soldiers, hacked the Democratic Party’s emails in 2016, and released Hunter Biden’s computer. People who engage with fake news are not bad people, but too often lack the skills to evaluate and analyze content critically.

The second reality is that those who chide Trump are often responsible for Trump. They have already extracted everything they needed from his presidency. Take prominent Republicans like Mike Pence, Lindsay Graham, and Mitch McConnell. They excused or ignored Trump’s racism, classism, and sexism to get tax cuts and judicial appointments. Similarly, big-tech companies reaped massive profits by creating a platform for Trump to build his electoral brand where his opponents could virtue signal against him. Only after Trump lost the election and threatened their business model with the repeal of section 230 of the Communications Decency Act did they oppose him. Closely related, the corporate media, even the supposed “resistance” outlets like MSNBC, who owe their increased audience size and massive profits to Trump, have recently admitted that their existence depends upon lazy and reckless coverage of Trump. Perhaps a harbinger of what’s to come is happening at Twitter. Just days after they dumped Trump from the popular social media platform, their stock plummeted by 10 percent, still down nearly seven percent at the close on Monday. These media companies helped create the need for a Trump figure to make profits, and as journalist Matt Taibbi recently noted, this is another major reason why we need a new media system, one preferably of, by, and for the public, which was the topic of Victor Pickard’s stellar book, Democracy Without Journalism.

The third reality we must all face is that Trump is a key symptom, not the cause, of declining democratic culture in the U.S. Trump would not be able to undermine the pillars of democracy if they had not already been in shambles. This is crucial to understand because a return to the “normal” politicians will do little if anything to slow the corrosion of democracy. The reality is that Trump’s fake news epithet was effective because the news media had traded journalism for profiteering, partisanship, and political grandstanding decades ago. Trump’s faux populist derision of elites found a sympathetic audience after policy failures such as NAFTA, the bogus justification for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the pre- and post-2008 economic collapse response, and their polling and analysis about the 2016 and 2020 elections. Worse, the so-called party of the people, the Democratic Party’s (and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, or DCCC) shifted their appeal to educated elite rather than the working class, as Boots Riley recently noted. This helps explain why 100 million Americans refuse to vote because they feel that neither party speaks to their needs. In fact, “non-voters are less educated, poorer, and more likely to be minorities, single and women.” By the 2014 polls showed the DCCC had its lowest approval rating ever resulting in the party holding less seats under President Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s leadership than any time since 1920. It is no wonder that in 2020, Pelosi proved to be such an effective bogeyperson for GOP attack ads that the DCCC lost seats in the House of Representatives (where she is the Speaker). If the U.S. hopes to avoid another, and more sophisticated version of Trump, the neoliberal behaviors, attitudes, policies, and politicians of the last forty-years must be sent to the dustbin of history and studiously avoided moving forward.

The fourth reality is that we cannot censor our way back to a strong democracy. Censorship, a practice long associated with authoritarian regimes, is now embraced by those that oppose Trump. Censorship is dangerous because studies show that it not only fails to stop the targeted information, it popularizes the content in what is known as the Streisand Effect, and punishes bystanders who experience a chilling effect. The post- January 6^th removal of Trump’s social media accounts saw Democrats cheer just as they had a few years earlier when other right-wing accounts were removed. We find it difficult to celebrate censorship by algorithms and technocrats, especially given the impacts go far beyond right wing fringes as suppression of expression comes with major civic consequences. Furthermore, the actions of these big tech overlords amounts to censorship by proxy considering the Silicon Valley’s wealth is dependent upon the federal government’s revolving door, loans and innovation such as the internet, and contracts to collect citizens’ data and surveil them. Censorship by proxy defined the Second Red Scare which saw the federal government intimidate industry and collude with the Screen Actors Guild, through Ronald Reagan, to develop the Hollywood Blacklist. Rather, than censor we need to cultivate a populace who are invested in the society, have faith in a more transparently accountable system, and are equipped with the critical thinking skills to effectively evaluate and analyze content. History has been very clear that this will not come about by mocking, labeling, and censoring individuals or content.

Donald Trump has helped peel back the gilded veneer of democracy in America. His presidency has revealed what neoliberalism has wrought: a post-democratic U.S. ripe for fascism. Democracy ceases to exist unless the citizenry participates in and respects the process, put its faith in and defends public institutions, accepts verifiable electoral results, and attains the critical thinking and media literacy skills necessary to make well informed and sophisticated decisions. We cannot, and should not, return to normal, as by this point we are all too aware of what “normal” has wrought.

Joe Biden belazert het volk en de rel op Capitol Hill leidt tot Patriot Act II: totale controle op het volk, ofwel de vorming van een totale politiestaat

Joe Biden die vorige maand nog de poging van Donald Trump saboteerde om elke volwassen ingezetenen in de VS $ 2,000.- te geven als compensatie voor de Corona ellende*, heeft in aanloop van de van de senaatsverkiezing in Georgia beloofd dat wanneer de Democraten deze verkiezing zouden winnen, iedere volwassen VS burger $ 2,000.- zou krijgen. Maarrrr i.p.v. zich aan zijn woord te houden, blijkt dat hij niet verder gaat dan een bedrag van $ 1,400.- per volwassen ingezetene...... Tja de wel in december door de Democraten goedgekeurde $ 600.- in december wordt van de beloofde $ 2,000.- afgetrokken, waardoor er nu inderdaad $ 1,400.- overblijft om weg te geven.....

Let wel: via advertenties voorafgaand aan de verkiezingen in Georgia stond duidelijk een cheque afgebeeld met daarop het bedrag van $ 2,000.-....... In feite heeft Biden het volk dus 2 keer een oor aangenaaid, terwijl zelfs een bedrag van $ 2,600.- (de in december afgegeven belofte van $ 600.- plus de nu door Biden beloofde $ 2,000.-) een schandalig laag bedrag zou zijn voor het overgrote deel van de VS burgers, die financieel zo hard zijn getroffen door de Coronacrisis!!! In het hieronder opgenomen artikel van Caitlin Johnstone, stelt zij dat het rijkste land ter wereld makkelijk veel meer kan betalen en gezien wat er al aan de bedrijven is uitbetaald zou je het daarmee eens kunnen zijn, echter de VS zit tot over de oren in de schuld, dus van die rijkdom blijft maar weinig over >> de geldpersen in de VS draaien overuren en dat 365 dagen per jaar, waarmee de dollar in feite een veel te hoge koers heeft, voor elk ander land met zoveel schuld zou de nationale munt zwaar worden afgewaardeerd......

Dan het tweede punt dat Caitlin aandraagt en dat is de reactie op de rel op Capitol Hill en in het Capitol zelf. Er is een nieuwe wet in de maak die je Patriot Act II zou kunnen noemen en met die wet (waarvoor niet alleen politici en media in de VS pleiten, maar ook alle andere westerse politici en media..) zullen de burgerrechten nog verder worden uitgekleed... Zoals eerder opgemerkt op deze plek zal deze wet ook links, inclusief o.a. de natuur beschermende groeperingen, milieuactivisten en mensenrechtenorganisaties (zoals Black Lives Matter >> BLM) treffen die niet in het gareel van de opvolgende VS regeringen liepen en lopen, maar die zich terecht verzetten tegen foute wet- en regelgeving, waarmee mensenrechten worden geschonden, oorlogsmisdaden worden begaan en ons aller thuis de aarde en alles daarop naar de kloten worden geholpen...... (waar een aantal van die organisaties al te maken hebben met censuur en beperkende maatregelen.....) Ofwel het recht op vrije meningsuiting en andere burgerrechten als het recht op privacy (waar al bijna niets van over is) zullen een harde klap krijgen, anders gezegd daar zal zo goed als niets of helemaal niets van overblijven........ Kortom dan zullen we belanden in een (fascistische) politiestaat.......

Lees het artikel van Caitlin Johnstone en zegt het voort, ook hier klinkt de roep steeds harder om censuur in te voeren op de sociale media en de rest van het internet, alsook het pleidooi voor het afbreken van burgerrechten, alles in het kader van (valse) veiligheid... In Duitsland spreken politici de laatste dagen over het inruilen van burgerrechten voor veiligheid, waar deze politici (en een fiks deel van de reguliere media) vergeten dat nog geen honderd jaar geleden de nazi's met dezelfde pleidooien kwamen........ (al had men toen uiteraard nog niet de beschikking over het internet)

Consent-Manufacturing For Patriot Act II Continues

It's been obvious for a long time that the best way to stop the rise of right-wing extremism in America that everyone's so worried about today is not to pass a bunch of authoritarian laws, but to reverse the policies of soul-crushing neoliberalism and domestic austerity which led to Donald Trump. Instead of doing this, the next president is already pushing a Patriot Act sequel and reducing the stimulus checks he'd promised the public before he's even been sworn in.

President-elect Biden promised unambiguously that if voters gave the Democratic Party control of the Senate by electing Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in Georgia earlier this month, checks of $2,000 would "go out the door immediately". Warnock blatantly campaigned on the promise of $2000 checks if elected, literally using pictures of checks with "$2000" written on them to do so. This was not an unclear promise by any stretch of the imagination, yet when Biden unveiled the “American Rescue Plan” on Thursday, the number 1400 was written where the number 2000 should have been.

The argument being pushed out at the moment is that when Democrats were blatantly promising stimulus checks of $2000 what they really meant was that Americans would receive $1400 on top of the $600 checks they'd received earlier, and everyone should have just known this somehow (perhaps via some sort of psychic precognition or sorcery). Which of course makes as much sense as someone hiring you to do a job for a given amount of money and then paying you the amount promised minus the amount you'd made at your last job.

It's just so emblematic of US austerity policies, which are so normalized they don't even use that word. Keep people stretched so thin that even a paltry $2000 after months and months of nothing can be spun as an excessively exorbitant indulgence which must be scaled back to keep it reasonable. In reality a grand total of $2600 in the richest nation on earth after all this time would still be a huge slap in the face, but generations of media spin have gone into keeping Americans from attaining that level of rightful entitlement.

So as of this writing the internet is full of angry Americans actually typing the words "$1400 is not $2000", which is totally bananas. People should not have to say that the number 1400 is not the same as the number 2000. It feels like if my Twitter feed was full of people saying "Cars are not birds", or "Pogs are not iPhones", or "Mimes are not salad". People should not have to make such self-evident clarifications.

But they apparently do need to make such clarifications, because scumbags like Adam Schiff are looking them right in the eye, sharing information that says "$1,400 checks" on it, and telling them that it says "$2000 relief checks".

2 + 2 = 5.

So again, it's pretty clear that America isn't going to attempt to reverse the conditions which created Trump and all the extremist factions that everyone's been freaking out about since the Capitol riot. Obama led to Trump, and the strategy going forward is to just keep tightening the neoliberal screws like both Obama and Trump did throughout their entire administrations. And, of course, to advance new "domestic terrorism" laws.

As we discussed previously, Biden has often boasted of being the original author of the Patriot Act years before it was rapidly rolled out amid the fear and blind obsequiousness of the aftermath of 9/11. Now in the aftermath of the Capitol riot we are seeing a push to roll out new authoritarian laws around terrorism, this time taking aim at "domestic terror", which were also in preparation prior to the event used to manufacture support for them.

In a new article for Washington Monthly titled "It’s Time for a Domestic Terrorism Law", Bill Scher argues against left-wing critics of the coming laws like Glenn Greenwald and Jacobin's Luke Savage saying such "knee-jerk reactions" against potential authoritarian abuses fail to address the growing problem. He opens with the acknowledgement that "Joe Biden’s transition team was already working on a domestic terrorism law before the insurrection," and then he just keeps on writing as though that's not weird or suspicious in any way.

Scher lists among the growing threat of domestic terror not just white supremacists and right-wing extremists but "extremist left-wing domestic terrorism" as well. He approvingly cites Adam Schiff's Confronting The Threat of Terrorism Act, which "creates a definition of domestic terrorism broadly encompassing plots that carry a 'substantial risk of serious bodily injury' along with an 'intent to intimidate or coerce a civilian population' or 'influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion.'" The ACLU has unequivocally denounced Schiff's bill, saying it "would unnecessarily expand law enforcement authorities to target and discriminate against the very communities Congress is seeking to protect."

Known CIA asset Ken Dilanian has also been trotted out to make the case that Americans have too many rights for their own good, co-authoring an NBC article titled "Worried about free speech, FBI never issued intelligence bulletin about possible Capitol violence".

"FBI intelligence analysts gathered information about possible violence involving the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6., but the FBI never distributed a formal intelligence bulletin, in part because of concerns that doing so might have run afoul of free speech protections, a current and two former senior FBI officials familiar with the matter told NBC News," the article warns, making sure to inform readers that "experts say the lack of a domestic terrorism statute constrains the FBI from treating far-right and far-left groups the same as Americans who are radicalized to violence by Al Qaeda or ISIS ideology."

We can expect to see more such articles going forward.

The only way to sincerely believe more Patriot Act-like laws will benefit Americans is to believe that the US will only have wise and beneficent leaders going forward, and the only way to sincerely believe the US will only have wise and beneficent leaders going forward is to be completely shit-eating stupid. The trajectory has already been chosen, and that trajectory is the one that has already given rise to Trump. Continuing along that same trajectory can only give rise to something far uglier, and that something far uglier will have whatever new authoritarian powers are added by Joe Biden.

They're not actually worried about "domestic terror", they're worried about any movement which threatens to topple the status quo. They want to make sure they can adequately spy, infiltrate, agitate and incarcerate into impotence any movement which provides a threat to America's rulers and the system which funnels them wealth and power at the expense of everyone else. The movements which most threaten this are not rightists, who are generally more or less aligned with the interests of the oligarchic empire, but the left.

This is who they'll end up targeting going forward, and whatever Biden and Company wind up rolling out to fight "domestic terrorism" will help them do so.

2020 het jaar dat de vrijheidsboom in brand werd gestoken

John Whitehead heeft een artikel geschreven waarin hij betoogt dat 2020 het jaar is waarin de overheid (beter: overheden) de definitieve stap heeft gezet om onze vrijheid af te nemen. Hij begint met een mooie uitspraak van John Lennon waarin deze betoogt dat mensen niet bewust leven, niet opgeleid zijn om te beseffen dat ze macht hebben. Het systeem werkt zo dat iedereen gelooft dat de overheid alles zal oplossen. Eindigend met : “Wij zijn de regering” (als we dat willen, Ap).

Nog even het volgende : vergeet niet dat de situatie in de VS, waarover Whitehead spreekt, in feite nog een stuk erger is dan hier, hoewel we in sneltreinvaart achter de VS aangaan en en paar zaken die Whitehead aanhaalt zal je ongetwijfeld zelf al hebben bemerkt in ons land, of welk land dan ook waar je woont, waar je leeft.

Volkomen terecht merkt Whitehead op dat 2020 'een vreselijk, verschrikkelijk slecht jaar was voor vrijheid', waar dit jaar 'een optelsom was van het laatste vreselijke, verschrikkelijk slechte decennium voor ons aller vrijheid.......'

Corruptie op regeringsniveau (hier beter verborgen, maar aanwijsbaar bestaand), tirannie en misbruik, gemixt met een Big Brother weet alles mentaliteit, samen met de COVID-19 'pandemie' hebben deze zaken ons op 'warpsnelheid'* gebracht in de richting van een politiestaat, aldus Whitehead. Daarna noemt hij een aantal zaken die nu al als normaal worden gezien in de VS: hele staten die op slot zijn gegaan middels een lockdown, enorm uitgebreide bewaking (van alles en iedereen), veel fouilleringen langs de kant van de weg, politiemoorden op meerdere ongewapende burgers, censuur, arrestaties als vergelding, het criminaliseren van tot nu toe gewoon geoorloofde zaken, oorlogshitserij, het 'oneindig vasthouden' van mensen (bijvoorbeeld ook in Nederland als het gaat om vluchtelingen), overvallen door arrestatieteams, het in beslag nemen van zaken (door de politie en/of deurwaarder ), politiegeweld, winstmakende privé gevangenissen (die in de VS zelfs aan de beurs zijn genoteerd....) en alom aanwezige corruptie, zelfs in het Witte Huis......

Terecht is volgens Whitehead het voorgaande een waslijst aan vergrijpen >> die wreed, brutaal, immoreel, ongrondwettig en onacceptabel zijn. Zaken waarmee de regering de laatste 2 decennia en zeker het laatste jaar het volk heeft belast......

Door de Coronacrisis zijn een aantal van onze burgerrechten gesneuveld, we zouden die terugkrijgen zo werd beloofd, echter de geschiedenis laat zien dat regeringen, ook in ons land, zaken van dergelijke omvang (ook qua lengte in tijd) niet snel of helemaal niet terugdraaien. Immers zaken als ons recht op privacy waren we al bijna kwijt voor de Coronacrisis en daar blijft nu bijna helemaal niets van over en uiteraard is dat een geschenk voor diezelfde overheid, politie en geheime diensten waarmee de schending van ook andere burgerrechten heel makkelijk wordt gemaakt**.

Verder is het ons een stuk moeilijker gemaakt om ons voor één doel te verenigen, niet alleen dat: zelfs als zou je daadwerkelijk verzetsdaden willen verrichten is dat door de enorme controle en de meer dan schandelijke spoedwet een heel stuk moeilijker geworden en voor velen zelfs onmogelijk.......

Whitehead gaat uitvoerig in op een aantal onderwerpen, zoals het onvermogen van de overheid om ons leven, onze vrijheid en ons geluk te beschermen. Ook schenkt hij aandacht aan het feit dat de opvolgende presidenten in de VS zich meer en meer gedragen als een keizer van een imperium (nu moet ik zeggen dat dit al heel lang het geval is in het hysterische VS, het geschreeuw, gefluit en applaus alsof de president van de VS een beroemde popster is, hier zie je dat trouwens ook bij een figuur als de GroenLinks oplichter Jessias Klaver......). En vergeet niet dat de VS in feite als het Vierde Rijk kan worden gezien...... Verder noemt Whitehead de gemilitariseerde politie in de VS, een macht op zich, die de bevolking terroriseert en beschikt over wapentuig dat op het slagveld thuishoort...... Ook lijkt het wel of de politie in de VS willekeurig mensen neerschiet, willekeurige arrestaties uitvoert en mensen fouilleert waarbij 'de zoektocht' zelfs doorgaat tot in het lichaam........

2020: The Year the Tree of Liberty Was Torched

December 29, 2020 "Information Clearing House" - No doubt about it: 2020—a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year for freedom—was the culmination of a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad decade for freedom.

Government corruption, tyranny, and abuse coupled with a Big Brother-knows-best mindset and the COVID-19 pandemic propelled us at warp speed towards a full-blown police state in which nationwide lockdowns, egregious surveillance, roadside strip searches, police shootings of unarmed citizens, censorship, retaliatory arrests, the criminalization of lawful activities, warmongering, indefinite detentions, SWAT team raids, asset forfeiture, police brutality, profit-driven prisons, and pay-to-play politicians were accepted as the norm.

Here’s just a small sampling of the laundry list of abuses—cruel, brutal, immoral, unconstitutional and unacceptable—that have been heaped upon us by the government over the past two decades and in the past year, in particular.

The government failed to protect our lives, liberty and happiness. The predators of the police state wreaked havoc on our freedoms, our communities, and our lives. The government didn’t listen to the citizenry, refused to abide by the Constitution, and treated the citizenry as a source of funding and little else. Police officers shot unarmed citizens and their household pets. Government agents—including local police—were armed to the teeth and encouraged to act like soldiers on a battlefield. Bloated government agencies were allowed to fleece taxpayers. Government technicians spied on our emails and phone calls. And government contractors made a killing by waging endless wars abroad.

The American President became more imperial. Although the Constitution invests the President with very specific, limited powers, in recent years, American presidents (Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc.) claimed the power to completely and almost unilaterally alter the landscape of this country for good or for ill. The powers that have been amassed by each successive president through the negligence of Congress and the courts—powers which add up to a toolbox of terror for an imperial ruler—empower whoever occupies the Oval Office to act as a dictator, above the law and beyond any real accountability. The presidency itself has become an imperial one with permanent powers.

Militarized police became a power unto themselves, 911 calls turned deadly, and traffic stops took a turn for the worse. Lacking in transparency and accountability, protected by the courts and legislators, and rife with misconduct, America’s police forces continued to be a menace to the citizenry and the rule of law. Despite concerns about the government’s steady transformation of local police into a standing military army, local police agencies acquired even more weaponry, training and equipment suited for the battlefield. Police officers were also given free range to pull anyone over for a variety of reasons and subject them to forced cavity searches, forced colonoscopies, forced blood draws, forced breath-alcohol tests, forced DNA extractions, forced eye scans, forced inclusion in biometric databases.

The courts failed to uphold justice. With every ruling handed down, it becomes more apparent that we live in an age of hollow justice, with government courts more concerned with protecting government agents than upholding the rights of “we the people.” This is true at all levels of the judiciary, but especially so in the highest court of the land, the U.S. Supreme Court, which is seemingly more concerned with establishing order and protecting government agents than with upholding the rights enshrined in the Constitution. A review of critical court rulings over the past two decades, including some ominous ones by the U.S. Supreme Court, reveals a startling and steady trend towards pro-police state rulings by an institution concerned more with establishing order and protecting the ruling class and government agents than with upholding the rights enshrined in the Constitution.

COVID-19 allowed the Emergency State to expand its powers. What started out as an apparent effort to prevent a novel coronavirus from sickening the nation (and the world) became yet another means by which world governments (including our own) could expand their powers, abuse their authority, and further oppress their constituents. While COVID-19 took a significant toll on the nation emotionally, physically, and economically, it also allowed the government to trample our rights in the so-called name of national security, with talk of mass testing for COVID-19 antibodies, screening checkpoints, contact tracing, immunity passports, forced vaccinations, snitch tip lines and onerous lockdowns.

The Surveillance State rendered Americans vulnerable to threats from government spies, police, hackers and power failures. Thanks to the government’s ongoing efforts to build massive databases using emerging surveillance, DNA and biometrics technologies, Americans have become sitting ducks for hackers and government spies alike. Billions of people have been affected by data breaches and cyberattacks. On a daily basis, Americans have been made to relinquish the most intimate details of who we are—our biological makeup, our genetic blueprints, and our biometrics (facial characteristics and structure, fingerprints, iris scans, etc.)—in order to navigate an increasingly technologically-enabled world.

America became a red flag nation. Red flag laws, specifically, and pre-crime laws generally push us that much closer towards a suspect society where everyone is potentially guilty of some crime or another and must be preemptively rendered harmless. Where many Americans go wrong is in naively assuming that you have to be doing something illegal or harmful in order to be flagged and targeted for some form of intervention or detention. In fact, all you need to do these days to end up on a government watch list or be subjected to heightened scrutiny is use certain trigger words (like cloud, pork and pirates), surf the internet, communicate using a cell phone, limp or stutter, drive a car, stay at a hotel, attend a political rally, express yourself on social media, appear mentally ill, serve in the military, disagree with a law enforcement official, call in sick to work, purchase materials at a hardware store, take flying or boating lessons, appear suspicious, appear confused or nervous, fidget or whistle or smell bad, be seen in public waving a toy gun or anything remotely resembling a gun (such as a water nozzle or a remote control or a walking cane), stare at a police officer, question government authority, appear to be pro-gun or pro-freedom, or generally live in the United States. Be warned: once you get on such a government watch list—whether it’s a terrorist watch list, a mental health watch list, a dissident watch list, or a red flag gun watch list—there’s no clear-cut way to get off, whether or not you should actually be on there.

The cost of policing the globe drove the nation deeper into debt. America’s war spending has already bankrupted the nation to the tune of more than $20 trillion dollars. Policing the globe and waging endless wars abroad hasn’t made America—or the rest of the world—any safer, but it has made the military industrial complex rich at taxpayer expense. The U.S. military reportedly has more than 1.3 million men and women on active duty, with more than 200,000 of them stationed overseas in nearly every country in the world. Yet America’s military forces aren’t being deployed abroad to protect our freedoms here at home. Rather, they’re being used to guard oil fields, build foreign infrastructure and protect the financial interests of the corporate elite. In fact, the United States military spends about $81 billion a year just to protect oil supplies around the world. This is how a military empire occupies the globe. Meanwhile, America’s infrastructure is falling apart.

Free speech was dealt one knock-out punch after another. Protest laws, free speech zones, bubble zones, trespass zones, anti-bullying legislation, zero tolerance policies, hate crime laws, shadow banning on the Internet, and a host of other legalistic maladies dreamed up by politicians and prosecutors (and championed by those who want to suppress speech with which they might disagree) conspired to corrode our core freedoms, purportedly for our own good. On paper—at least according to the U.S. Constitution—we are technically free to speak. In reality, however, we are only as free to speak as a government official—or corporate entities such as Facebook, Google or YouTube—may allow. The reasons for such censorship varied widely from political correctness, so-called safety concerns and bullying to national security and hate crimes but the end result remained the same: the complete eradication of free speech.

The Deep State took over. The American system of representative government has been overthrown by the Deep State—a.k.a. the police state a.k.a. the military/corporate industrial complex—a profit-driven, militaristic corporate state bent on total control and global domination through the imposition of martial law here at home and by fomenting wars abroad. The “government of the people, by the people, for the people” has perished. In its place is a shadow government, a corporatized, militarized, entrenched bureaucracy that is fully operational and staffed by unelected officials who are, in essence, running the country and calling the shots in Washington DC, no matter who sits in the White House. Mind you, by “government,” I’m not referring to the highly partisan, two-party bureaucracy of the Republicans and Democrats. Rather, I’m referring to “government” with a capital “G,” the entrenched Deep State that is unaffected by elections, unaltered by populist movements, and has set itself beyond the reach of the law. This is the hidden face of a government that has no respect for the freedom of its citizenry. This shadow government, which “operates according to its own compass heading regardless of who is formally in power,” makes a mockery of elections and the entire concept of a representative government.

The takeaway: Everything the founders of this country feared has come to dominate in modern America. “We the people” have been saddled with a government that is no longer friendly to freedom and is working overtime to trample the Constitution underfoot and render the citizenry powerless in the face of the government’s power grabs, corruption and abusive tactics.

So how do you balance the scales of justice at a time when Americans are being tasered, tear-gassed, pepper-sprayed, hit with batons, shot with rubber bullets and real bullets, blasted with sound cannons, detained in cages and kennels, sicced by police dogs, arrested and jailed for challenging the government’s excesses, abuses and power-grabs, and then locked down and stripped of any semblance of personal freedom?

No matter who sits in the White House, politics won’t fix a system that is broken beyond repair.

For that matter, protests and populist movements also haven’t done much to push back against an authoritarian regime that is deaf to our cries, dumb to our troubles, blind to our needs, and accountable to no one.

So how do you not only push back against the government’s bureaucracy, corruption and cruelty but also launch a counterrevolution aimed at reclaiming control over the government using nonviolent means?

You start by changing the rules and engaging in some (nonviolent) guerilla tactics.

Take your cue from the Tenth Amendment and nullify everything the government does that flies in the face of the principles on which this nation was founded. If there is any means left to us for thwarting the government in its relentless march towards outright dictatorship, it may rest with the power of juries and local governments to invalidate governmental laws, tactics and policies that are illegitimate, egregious or blatantly unconstitutional.

In an age in which government officials accused of wrongdoing—police officers, elected officials, etc.—are treated with general leniency, while the average citizen is prosecuted to the full extent of the law, nullification is a powerful reminder that, as the Constitution tells us, “we the people” are the government.

For too long we’ve allowed our so-called “representatives” to call the shots. Now it’s time to restore the citizenry to their rightful place in the republic: as the masters, not the servants.

Nullification is one way of doing so.

America was meant to be primarily a system of local governments, which is a far cry from the colossal federal bureaucracy we have today. Yet if our freedoms are to be restored, understanding what is transpiring practically in your own backyard—in one’s home, neighborhood, school district, town council—and taking action at that local level must be the starting point.

Responding to unmet local needs and reacting to injustices is what grassroots activism is all about. Attend local city council meetings, speak up at town hall meetings, organize protests and letter-writing campaigns, employ “militant nonviolent resistance” and civil disobedience, which Martin Luther King Jr. used to great effect through the use of sit-ins, boycotts and marches.

The power to change things for the better rests with us, not the politicians.

As long as we continue to allow callousness, cruelty, meanness, immorality, ignorance, hatred, intolerance, racism, militarism, materialism, meanness and injustice—magnified by an echo chamber of nasty tweets and government-sanctioned brutality—to trump justice, fairness and equality, there can be no hope of prevailing against the police state.

We could transform this nation if only Americans would work together to harness the power of their discontent and push back against the government’s overreach, excesses and abuse.
