Protesten Hongkong krijgen veel media aandacht, terwijl protesten in landen die westers gezind zijn vaak worden genegeerd.....

Caitlin Johnstone schreef een artikel over het verschil in media aandacht voor de protesten in Hongkong en protesten in niet westerse landen die braaf doen wat het westen (lees; de VS) nodig acht, voor de eerste is er enorm veel aandacht en voor de tweede is amper of totaal geen aandacht.......

Niet verrassend is het feit dat het ministerie van BuZa in de VS gebruik maakt van deze gespleten aandacht voor protesten, wat zeg ik: die aandacht in de media wordt mede ingegeven door de overheid van de VS*. Zo liet Brian Hook, een hielenlikker van oorlogsmisdadiger Bolton, in 2017 aan Rex Tillerson (die toen net VS minister van buitenlandse zaken was) weten dat mensenrechtenschendingen in Rusland, China, Iran, Venezuela en Noord-Korea met extra veel aandacht veroordeeld moeten worden, terwijl diezelfde schending van mensenrechten in bijvoorbeeld Saoedi-Arabië, Indonesië, Filipijnen, Honduras en Israël het liefst (zo lang mogelijk) uit de media moeten worden gehouden......... Een en ander bleek uit een gelekt memo....... 

Johnstone stelt terecht dat wanneer er een protestbeweging als de Yellow Vests in de VS tekeer zou gaan, deze zo lang mogelijk verzwegen zou worden door de media en dat men bij wel publiceren woorden voor de demonstranten zou gebruiken als fascisten, antisemieten of Russische pionnen (of Russische trollen).....

Overigens is er maar weinig aandacht voor het uiterst gewelddadige karakter van de demonstraties in Hongkong, tja dat past niet zo in het plaatje dat men het volk wil voorhouden: een gewelddadig China dat op het punt staat 'vreedzame demonstraties' de kop in te drukken......

Het voorgaande, de aandacht die de westerse politici en massamedia wel hebben voor demonstraties in Hongkong, Iran of Venezuela, is ook in Nederland de manier van berichten in de reguliere media (Telegraaf, Volkskrant, NRC, Radio1 enz. enz.). Journalisten van die media hier hebben al te vaak laten zien zaken te laten liggen als deze niet in het belang van de Nederlandse regering, de VS of de NAVO zijn, of als ze negatief uitpakken voor de bestaande neoliberale status quo..... 

De volkomen ten onrechte over een paardendrol getilde hufter Max van Weezel (als was hij een journalist van formaat), liet een paar jaar geleden op Radio1 geheel parmantig weten bepaalde zaken zeker niet te zullen brengen (als deze bijvoorbeeld onrust in de maatschappij zouden kunnen veroorzaken).......

Vanmorgen hoorde ik Paul van Gessel, oud-grofgraaier van AT5, op Radio1 zeggen: “Geef ons brood en spelen”, toen men na 10.00 u. zat te zeuren over 'oude formules' als 'Man bijt Hond' dat weer uitgezonden schijnt te worden........ Ofwel de zich journalist noemende van Gessel wil 'brood en spelen', een uitvinding van waarschijnlijk de Romeinen om onrust onder het volk te sussen en zo protesten te voorkomen..... 'Brood en spelen' houden de mensen weg van wat er echt gebeurt in de wereld en juist dat, het vertellen wat er werkelijk gebeurt is nu juist precies wat de reguliere media dag in dag uit zouden moeten brengen....... Maar nee, geef van Gessel en een heel leger andere Nederlandse 'journalisten' maar 'brood en spelen', dan kunnen ze daar de kranten, websites, radio en tv mee vullen......

De NOS op Radio1, ziet het dan ook als haar taak om in het Radio1 Journaal 's morgens zoveel mogelijk sport te proppen, dit nog naast ellenlange reclameblokken en muziek waar niemand op wacht......... (brood en spelen) De gasten die te horen zijn in het Radio1 Journaal hebben maar al te vaak weinig of niets te brengen, waarbij de presentator de onderwerpen zo lang mogelijk probeert uit te melken (onderwerpen als die 'Van gewest tot gewest'), niet vreemd dus dat een presentator, zoals Jurgen van den Berg regelmatig vragen stelt waarop de gast eerder in het gesprek al een antwoord heeft gegeven (niet zelden zelfs al 2 keer)........ De eerder prima presentatoren van dit programma, Marcel Oosten en Frederique de Jong, moesten het veld ruimen voor minkukel van den Berg en daarmee werd het Radio1 Journaal een orgaan dat de status quo bewaakt en onrust moet voorkomen......**

Kortom: de westerse reguliere media zijn verworden tot propagandaorganen van het grootkapitaal, de neoliberale status quo en voor de illegale oorlogen die de VS met hulp van haar oorlogshond NAVO voert tegen landen waar de VS en de rest van het westen niets te zoeken hebben...... Overigens stelt Johnstone terecht dat er wel degelijk goede redenen kunnen zijn dat men demonstreert, waar je wel op moet letten of protesten niet zijn georganiseerd door de CIA, zoals deze terreurorganisatie dit bijvoorbeeld ook in Iran en Oekraïne heeft gedaan (en dat protest was dan ook in die landen uiterst gewelddadig)

How To Make Sense Of Foreign Protests, Conflicts And Uprisings

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation, our government-funded media outlet, has published an article titled "Australian expat living in Hong Kong throws off business suit to join protest movement". The entire story is in the headline: some random guy, who ABC keeps anonymous but for the name "Daniel", has joined the protests in Hong Kong. That's it. That's the whole entire bombshell newsworthy news story.

"In Australia we have proper democracy but in Hong Kong, democracy is being slowly eroded away and I'll try to do whatever I can to try and help the cause," the anonymous guy told ABC.

This sort of enthusiastic empty non-story cheerleading is typical for western media coverage of the Hong Kong protests so far, while these same media outlets consistently ignore or downplay protests against the government of France, Israel, Honduras, India, Indonesia and any other region that happens to fall within the US-centralized power alliance. It's an amazingly reliable pattern: the entire western political/media class finds protests and uprisings endlessly fascinating when they are in opposition to governments which haven't yet been absorbed into the imperial blob like China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, Syria, pre-collapse Libya, or then-Moscow-aligned Ukraine, but any protests or uprisings within that empire are ignored at best or demonized at worst.

If dissidents in the United States began donning yellow vests and holding aggressive demonstrations in the current media environment, you could safely bet your bottom dollar that they would be ignored for as long as possible and then smeared as fascists, antisemites and/or Russian pawns thereafter. This would happen with absolute certainty.

This very reliable trend in the western media is very interesting, because it also happens to be the known position of the US State Department.

In 2017 a memo was leaked to Politico in which the sniveling John Bolton lackey Brian Hook explained to DC neophyte Rex Tillerson how to perform his job as Secretary of State with regard to human rights violations. Hook explained that the US government must downplay and ignore the human rights violations of US allies like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Philippines while aggressively targeting unabsorbed governments like China, Russia, Iran and North Korea for any allegations of human rights violations on their part.

"In the case of US allies such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines, the Administration is fully justified in emphasizing good relations for a variety of important reasons, including counter-terrorism, and in honestly facing up to the difficult tradeoffs with regard to human rights," Hook explained in the memo.

"One useful guideline for a realistic and successful foreign policy is that allies should be treated differently -- and better -- than adversaries," Hook wrote. "Otherwise, we end up with more adversaries, and fewer allies. The classic dilemma of balancing ideals and interests is with regard to America’s allies. In relation to our competitors, there is far less of a dilemma. We do not look to bolster America’s adversaries overseas; we look to pressure, compete with, and outmaneuver them. For this reason, we should consider human rights as an important issue in regard to US relations with China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran."

This State Department memo is really all you need to understand what's going on whenever there's any kind of uprising or conflict in a foreign nation. Hell, it's almost all you need to understand the dynamics of empire in general. And, combined with the consistent pattern we've seen in coverage of protests and uprisings against empire-absorbed governments versus unabsorbed ones, it certainly tells you all you need to know about the state of the western media.

In theory the US Department of State was meant to serve as a counterpart to what was then called the Department of War (later falsely re-titled the "Department of Defense"). In theory the State Department was meant to specialize in peace and diplomacy in the same way the War Department specialized in war. In practice the warmongers just got two war departments.

Understand this one basic concept and you can understand all the hot topic foreign policy issues of any given day: there is an alliance of nations, centralized around US military and economic power, which effectively functions as a single empire. This empire works tirelessly to either absorb unabsorbed governments into its blob, or at least to undermine and marginalize them so they can't impede the empire's growth. The goal of the empire is total global domination without causing a nuclear war and without the public noticing that they're living in an empire. In this sense it's essentially a silent, slow motion third world war.

I see some of my readers voicing confusion about the protests in Hong Kong, but if you understand the basic dynamic I just described you'll see that this is really no different from the protests and uprisings we've seen in Venezuela, Iran, Syria, Libya and Ukraine: the western political/media class are backing an uprising which benefits the imperial blob and undermines an unabsorbed government. This doesn't mean that the protesters don't have grievances or that none of those grievances are legitimate, it just means that you're being told to cheerlead for an agenda by empire narrative managers solely because your doing so benefits that empire.

So don't. Refuse to be a pro bono CIA propagandist. This doesn't mean you need to oppose the protesters in Hong Kong, Venezuela or anywhere else, it just means that the only people who benefit from westerners cheerleading a CIA-approved uprising against an unabsorbed government are your rulers, who work endlessly to manufacture support for pro-empire agendas.

People who don't get this sometimes tell me that we should "support" the protesters in a given unabsorbed region, but they're always very reluctant to say what they mean by "support". Do they mean simply joining the western mass media in uncritically cheerleading for an uprising which benefits western power structures? Do they mean send them money? Weapons? An emotional thumbs-up? Prayers? Getting someone to say what they mean when they say we should "support" the Hong Kong protesters or whomever is like pulling teeth, because it would bring up a lot of cognitive dissonance to actually turn and examine what's behind the impulse they're following: narrative management. They're promoting pro-empire narrative management, and nothing more. 

And they're doing this because the empire narrative managers trained them to.

"Centrist" empire loyalists tend to ignore the protests in places like France while amplifying and cheerleading the protests in places like Hong Kong. Right-wing empire loyalists sometimes do it a little differently, actively conflating the Yellow Vests protests with protests in places like Hong Kong despite the very different forces that are at play in those two situations. But in both cases they're effectively mirroring the same State Department posture that Brian Hook tried to educate into Rex Tillerson in 2017.

Don't subject yourself to such indignities. If the political/media class is going to propagandize the masses into supporting the advancement of the agendas of the empire, at least make them do it without your help.

Australische politie valt kantoor ABC binnen vanwege gelekte documenten

De westerse politici en de reguliere westerse media hebben al decennialang veel kritiek op landen waar geen of weinig persvrijheid bestaat, echter de laatste jaren en eigenlijk al veel langer, grijpen westerse landen naar het instrument van censuur, vooral als het gaat over gelekte officiële documenten, die men geheim wilde houden voor het volk...... Terwijl men de laatste jaren de bek vol heeft van zaken als openheid en transparantie, worden documenten geheim gehouden over oorlogsmisdaden die zijn begaan door westerse landen......

Het is uiteraard schunnig dat men oorlogsmisdaden begaan door het eigen leger onder de pet wenst te houden, waar in een democratie het volk wel degelijk het recht heeft te weten wat haar overheid uitvreet, of dit nu in eigen land of een buitenland is...... Voorts zou je verwachten dat je in een democratie mee mag praten over waar belastingen voor worden aangewend, ook of misschien wel juist als het gaat om (peperdure) oorlogsvoering....

Intussen kennen westerse democratieën ook censuur, al laat men dit nu nog over aan bedrijven als Google, Facebook en Twitter..... 'Laat men over aan' zijn in feite niet de juiste woorden, daar westerse politici deze bedrijven onder druk zetten en eisen dat men bepaalde berichten en/of sites blokkeert, of accounts verwijdert.......

Gezien het voorgaande zijn klokkenluiders van levensbelang voor een democratie, daar zij misstanden openbaren, misstanden die ten koste gaan van die democratie........ Daar houdt het niet mee op: zo zijn er misstanden die ten koste gaan van de humaniteit (bijvoorbeeld in het geval van martelen, wat westerse landen liever onder de pet houden, mocht men zich daaraan beschuldigd hebben, zoals de VS en andere grote westerse landen als GB en Frankrijk......)

Nu heeft de Australische politie een inval gedaan bij ABC, daar deze zender gelekte documenten heeft geopenbaard waaruit blijkt dat Australische militairen zich in Afghanistan zwaar hebben misdragen...... In plaats van excuus te maken voor gruwelijke oorlogsmisdaden kiest ook de Australische overheid ervoor de klokkenluider en ABC te beschuldigen van een misdaad.....

De echte journalisten die nog werken voor de reguliere media zijn intussen wakker geschrokken, nadat Assange werd besmeurd door die media, zien ze nu dat werkelijk niemand veilig is voor de oprukkende censuur in de zogenaamde democratieën in het westen......

Het voorgaande geeft al aan dat wij ons niet op de borst hoeven te kloppen, ook Nederland houdt officiële documenten over oorlogsvoering onder de pet en reken maar dat hier hetzelfde zal gebeuren, mocht een klokkenluider van Defensie documenten openbaren waaruit blijkt dat Nederland zich schuldig heeft gemaakt aan oorlogsmisdaden, misdaden die de zittende regering niet geopenbaard wil zien..... 

Nog even dit over het Klokkenluidershuis: de toestanden bij dit huis zijn mede het gevolg van een belachelijke opstelling, afgedwongen door de politiek, waar klokkenluiders die zich melden bij dat Klokkenluidershuis moeten tekenen dat ze verder met niemand over de zaak zullen spreken...... Totaal belachelijk uiteraard, immers de meeste klokkenluiders willen nadat ze een zaak al lange tijd voor zich hebben gehouden, deze uit frustratie in de openbaarheid brengen, logisch dus dat zij geen zin hebben te tekenen dat ze met niemand verder over deze zaak zullen spreken....... 

Daarnaast is het Klokkenluidershuis een totale sof geworden, na twee jaar is er nog geen zaak afgerond, waar ik moet opmerken dat het een wonder is dat er nog mensen zaken aanmelden bij dit 'huis..'

Australian Police Raid National Broadcaster Over Leaked Afghan War Crime Stories

(ZH) — Australian federal police officers raided the Sydney headquarters of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) over a series of 2017 reports known as The Afghan Files, which exposed crimes committed by special forces in Afghanistan based on hundreds of pages of leaked defense documents marked AUSTEO (Australian Eyes Only).

The incident marks Australia’s second such move against journalists in just two days, after police raided the home of a News Corp editor over an April, 2018 Exposé on government spying.

According to the police, the raid was “in relation to allegations of publishing classified material, contrary to provisions of the Crimes Act 1914,” while the warrant names the authors of the report, Dan Oakes and Sam Clark, along with ABC news director Gaven Morris.

“It is highly unusual for the national broadcaster to be raided in this way,” said ABC Managing Director David Anderson in a statement, adding: “This is a serious development and raises legitimate concerns over freedom of the press and proper public scrutiny of national security and defense matters.”

During the raid, ABC staff members were rounded up and asked to assist in examining their email server to look for “a series of key words.” Others searched a hard drive, according to ABC executive director John Lyons – who live-tweeted the raid.

After four hours, authorities had collected more than 9,200 files and were deciding which ones were allowed to be seized under the warrant, according to RT.

Marcus Strom, president of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance trade union, said over Twitter that the two raids in recent days were “just outrageous.”

“Police raiding journalists is becoming normalized. It has to stop,” he added.

The ABC raid was in relation to a series of broadcasts in 2017 about alleged misconduct by Australian troops in Afghanistan, the broadcaster said.

The raid on the News Corp editor related to a 2018 newspaper report that said Australian intelligence agencies wanted to carry out surveillance by accessing people’s emails, bank accounts and text messages, domestic media reported.

News Corp called the raid on its employee “outrageous and heavy handed”, and “a dangerous act of intimidation”. –New York Times

In a statement, New Corp said that it had “the most serious concerns about the willingness of governments to undermine the Australian public’s right to know about important decisions governments are making.”

Hillary Clinton en haar oorlog tegen de waarheid........ Ofwel een potje Rusland en Assange schoppen!

Oorlogsmisdadiger Hillary Clinton* heeft een boek geschreven, het kan u bijna niet zijn ontgaan. In dit boek durft deze leugenaar de schuld voor het verlies van de VS-presidentsverkiezingen bij anderen te leggen, terwijl ze van meet af aan een heel smerige campagne leidde tegen haar mede democratische kandidaat Sanders.........

Een lid van haar campagneteam, Seth Rich was het niet eens met deze smerige campagne en hij lekte documenten naar Wikileaks, die aangaven dat Clinton de boel had belogen en bedrogen, dus niet de Russen zoals de reguliere media en het grootste deel van de westerse politici tot op de dag van vandaag volhouden....... Deze Rich werd na het lekken van de documenten 'toevallig' vermoord, volgens de politie een roofmoord, hoewel er niets van Rich werd gestolen, zelfs zichtbare sieraden niet....... Je zal begrijpen dat deze moord Clinton wel heel goed uitkwam.......

De reguliere (massa-) media staan voor het overgrote deel nog steeds achter Clinton, ondanks al haar bewezen leugens..... Voorts zou Clinton een kampioen vrouwenemancipatie zijn, dit terwijl het haar geen reet interesseert, dat ze een groot aantal vrouwen in diepe ellende heeft gedompeld en zelfs een groot aantal vrouwen heeft vermoord, middels het vermaledijde en grootschalige terroristische VS buitenlandbeleid.......

Zoals je waarschijnlijk wel weet, gebeurde dit in de illegale oorlogen tegen Afghanistan, Irak, Libië en Syrië...... Wat betreft die laatste: van meet af aan, heeft Clinton in haar functie ingezet op het onrust stoken in Syrië, daar Assad moest verdwijnen (een VS plan dat in 2006 weer uit de koelkast werd gehaald). Waar nog aan toegevoegd moet worden, dat Clinton één op één verantwoordelijk was voor de illegale oorlog tegen Libië, een oorlog die aan naar schatting 40.000 mensen het leven heeft gekost (moorden) en waarin de Libische leider Khadaffi gruwelijk werd vermoord.......

Libie is nu één grote chaos en alle ellende die bijvoorbeeld de vluchtelingen uit conflictgebieden in Afrika overkomt (mensen die naar Europa willen vluchten), zoals verkrachting, marteling en slavernij zijn te danken aan het ingrijpen van Clinton........ Onder Khadaffi was Libië het rijkste land van Afrika en waren huisvesting, energie, gezondheidszorg, scholing en zelfs studie (ook voor vrouwen) in het buitenland, zo goed als gratis.......

Daarnaast was er nog de coup tegen de democratisch gekozen Hondurese regering in 2009, een coup die tot een berg geweld leidde en waarvoor Clinton één van de hoofdverantwoordelijken is.........

Mensen ik snap niet waar Clinton het gore lef vandaan haalt, om zichzelf als slachtoffer uit te roepen, ongelofelijk, ongeloofwaardig, onverdraaglijk en ronduit schunnig!!

Julian Assange, Hillary Clinton and the War on Truth

Australia’s public broadcasting network gave Hillary Clinton an open mic to defame WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange as “a tool of Russian intelligence” without giving him a chance to respond.

(CN) — On Oct. 16, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation aired an interview with Hillary Clinton: one of many to promote her score-settling book about why she was not elected President of the United States.

Wading through the Clinton book, What Happened, is an unpleasant experience, like a stomach upset. Smears and tears. Threats and enemies. “They” (voters) were brainwashed and herded against her by the odious Donald Trump in cahoots with sinister Slavs sent from the great darkness known as Russia, assisted by an Australian “nihilist,” Julian Assange.

In The New York Times, there was a striking photograph of a female reporter consoling Clinton, having just interviewed her. The lost leader was, above all, “absolutely a feminist.” The thousands of women’s lives this “feminist” destroyed while in government — Libya, Syria, Honduras — were of no interest.

In New York magazine, Rebecca Trainster wrote that Clinton was finally “expressing some righteous anger.” It was even hard for her to smile: “so hard that the muscles in her face ache.” Surely, she concluded, “if we allowed women’s resentments the same bearing we allow men’s grudges, America would be forced to reckon with the fact that all these angry women might just have a point.”

Drivel such as this, trivializing women’s struggles, marks the media hagiographies of Hillary Clinton. Her political extremism and warmongering are of no consequence. Her problem, wrote Trainster, was a “damaging infatuation with the email story.” The truth, in other words.

The leaked emails of Clinton’s campaign manager, John Podesta, revealed a direct connection between Clinton and the foundation and funding of organized jihadism in the Middle East and Islamic State (known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh). The ultimate source of most Islamic terrorism, Saudi Arabia, was central to her career.

One email, in 2014, sent by Clinton to Podesta soon after she stepped down as U.S. Secretary of State, discloses that Islamic State is funded by the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Clinton accepted huge donations from both governments for the Clinton Foundation.

As Secretary of State, she approved the world’s biggest ever arms sale to her benefactors in Saudi Arabia, worth more than $80 billion. Thanks to her, U.S. arms sales to the world – for use in stricken countries like Yemen – doubled.

This was revealed by WikiLeaks and published by The New York Times. No one doubts the emails are authentic. The subsequent campaign to smear WikiLeaks and its editor-in-chief, Julian Assange, as “agents of Russia,” has grown into a spectacular fantasy known as “Russiagate.” The “plot” is said to have been signed off on by Vladimir Putin himself. There is not a shred of public evidence.

Smear and Omission

The ABC Australia interview with Clinton is an outstanding example of smear and censorship by omission. I would say it is a model.

“No one,” the interviewer, Sarah Ferguson, says to Clinton, “could fail to be moved by the pain on your face at that moment [of the inauguration of Trump] … Do you remember how visceral it was for you?”

Having established Clinton’s visceral suffering, Ferguson asks about “Russia’s role.”

CLINTON: I think Russia affected the perceptions and views of millions of voters, we now know. I think that their intention coming from the very top with Putin was to hurt me and to help Trump.

FERGUSON: How much of that was a personal vendetta by Vladimir Putin against you?

CLINTON: … I mean he wants to destabilize democracy. He wants to undermine America, he wants to go after the Atlantic Alliance and we consider Australia kind of a … an extension of that …

(The opposite is true. It is a combination of Western armies massing on Russia’s border for the first time since the Russian Revolution 100 years ago.)

FERGUSON: How much damage did [Julian Assange] do personally to you?

CLINTON: Well, I had a lot of history with him because I was Secretary of State when, ah, WikiLeaks published a lot of very sensitive, ah, information from our State Department and our Defense Department.

(What Clinton fails to say – and her interviewer fails to remind her – is that in 2010, WikiLeaks revealed that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had ordered a secret intelligence campaign targeted at the United Nations leadership, including the Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon and the permanent Security Council representatives from China, Russia, France and the U.K. A classified directive, signed by Clinton, was issued to U.S. diplomats in July 2009, demanding forensic technical details about the communications systems used by top U.N. officials, including passwords and personal encryption keys used in private and commercial networks. This was known as Cablegate. It was lawless spying.)

CLINTON: He [Assange] is very clearly a tool of Russian intelligence. And, ah, he has done their bidding.

(Clinton offered no evidence to back up this serious accusation, nor did Ferguson challenge her.)

CLINTON: You don’t see damaging negative information coming out about the Kremlin on WikiLeaks. You didn’t see any of that published.

(This was false. WikiLeaks has published a massive number of documents on Russia – more than 800,000, most of them critical, many of them used in books and as evidence in court cases.)

A ‘Nihilistic Opportunist’

CLINTON: So I think Assange has become a kind of nihilistic opportunist who does the bidding of a dictator.

FERGUSON: Lots of people, including in Australia, think that Assange is a martyr for free speech and freedom of information. How would you describe him? Well, you’ve just described him as a nihilist.

CLINTON: Yeah, well, and a tool. I mean he’s a tool of Russian intelligence. And if he’s such, ah, you know, martyr of free speech, why doesn’t WikiLeaks ever publish anything coming out of Russia?

(Again, Ferguson said nothing to challenge this or correct her.)

CLINTON: There was a concerted operation between WikiLeaks and Russia and most likely people in the United States to weaponize that information, to make up stories … to help Trump.

FERGUSON: Now, along with some of those outlandish stories, there was information that was revealed about the Clinton Foundation that at least in some of the voters’ minds seemed to associate you ….

CLINTON: Yeah, but it was false!

FERGUSON: … with the peddling of information …

CLINTON: It was false! It was totally false!  …..

FERGUSON: Do you understand how difficult it was for some voters to understand the amounts of money that the [Clinton] Foundation is raising, the confusion with the consultancy that was also raising money, getting gifts and travel and so on for Bill Clinton that even Chelsea had some issues with? …

CLINTON: Well you know, I’m sorry, Sarah, I mean I, I know the facts….

Generational ‘Icon’

The ABC interviewer lauded Clinton as “the icon of your generation.” She asked her nothing about the enormous sums she creamed off from Wall Street, such as the $675,000 for speaking to Goldman Sachs, one of the banks at the center of the 2008 crash. Clinton’s greed deeply upset the kind of voters she abused as “deplorables.”

Clearly looking for a cheap headline in the Australian press, Ferguson asked her if Trump was “a clear and present danger to Australia” and got her predictable response.

This high-profile journalist made no mention of Clinton’s own “clear and present danger” to the people of Iran whom she once threatened to “obliterate totally,” and the 40,000 Libyans who died in the attack on Libya in 2011 that Clinton orchestrated. Flushed with excitement, the Secretary of State rejoiced at the gruesome murder of the Libyan leader, Colonel Gaddafi.

“Libya was Hillary Clinton’s war,” Julian Assange said in a filmed interview with me last year. “Barack Obama initially opposed it. Who was the person championing it? Hillary Clinton. That’s documented throughout her emails … there’s more than 1,700 emails out of the 33,000 Hillary Clinton emails that we’ve published, just about Libya. It’s not that Libya has cheap oil. She perceived the removal of Gaddafi and the overthrow of the Libyan state — something that she would use in her run-up to the general election for President.

“So in late 2011 there is an internal document called the Libya Tick Tock that was produced for Hillary Clinton, and it’s the chronological description of how she was the central figure in the destruction of the Libyan state, which resulted in around 40,000 deaths within Libya; jihadists moved in, ISIS moved in, leading to the European refugee and migrant crisis.

“Not only did you have people fleeing Libya, people fleeing Syria, the destabilization of other African countries as a result of arms flows, but the Libyan state itself was no longer able to control the movement of people through it.”

This – not Clinton’s “visceral” pain in losing to Trump nor the rest of the self-serving scuttlebutt in her ABC interview – was the story. Clinton shared responsibility for massively de-stabilizing the Middle East, which led to the death, suffering and flight of thousands of women, men and children.

Ferguson raised not a word of it. Clinton repeatedly defamed Assange, who was neither defended nor offered a right of reply on his own country’s state broadcaster.

In a tweet from London, Assange cited the ABC’s own Code of Practice, which states: “Where allegations are made about a person or organisation, make reasonable efforts in the circumstances to provide a fair opportunity to respond.”

‘Putin’s Bitch’

Following the ABC broadcast, Ferguson’s executive producer, Sally Neighbour, re-tweeted the following: “Assange is Putin’s bitch. We all know it!”

The slander, since deleted, was even used as a link to the ABC interview captioned ‘Assange is Putins (sic) b****. We all know it!’

In the years I have known Julian Assange, I have watched a vituperative personal campaign try to stop him and WikiLeaks. It has been a frontal assault on whistleblowing, on free speech and free journalism, all of which are now under sustained attack from governments and corporate Internet controllers.

The first serious attacks on Assange came from the Guardian, which, like a spurned lover, turned on its besieged former source, having hugely profited from WikiLeaks’ disclosures. With not a penny going to Assange or WikiLeaks, a Guardian book led to a lucrative Hollywood movie deal. Assange was portrayed as “callous” and a “damaged personality.”

It was as if a rampant jealousy could not accept that his remarkable achievements stood in marked contrast to that of his detractors in the “mainstream” media. It is like watching the guardians of the status quo, regardless of age, struggling to silence real dissent and prevent the emergence of the new and hopeful.

Today, Assange remains a political refugee from the war-making dark state of which Donald Trump is a caricature and Hillary Clinton the embodiment. His resilience and courage are astonishing. Unlike him, his tormentors are cowards.
