Israël gebruikte passagiersvliegtuig als menselijk schild tijdens aanval op Syrië

Rusland beschuldigt Israël ervan een passagiersvliegtuig met 172 inzittenden te hebben gebruikt als menselijk schild voor haar gevechtsvliegtuigen tegen luchtafweerraketten en zo aanvallen met raketten op Damascus en doelen in Zuid-Syrië veilig uit te kunnen voeren.....

Het spelen met levens van mensen is blijkbaar een 'hobby' geworden in Israël, dat gebruik moet hebben gemaakt van het vluchtplan van het passagiersvliegtuig dat tijdens de aanval van Israëlische gevechtsvliegtuigen werd gebruikt als 'menselijk schild'. Dit vliegtuig zette de landing in, precies in de baan van Syrische afweerraketten...... Door snel ingrijpen van vluchtverkeersleiders kon het vliegtuig koers zetten naar een ander vliegveld, om zo uit de baan van de luchtverdedigingsraketten te geraken......

Onbegrijpelijk dat men Israël door laat gaan met haar laffe terreuraanvallen, maar ja wat wil je, de VS, de grootste terreurentiteit ter wereld, steunt deze fascistische apartheidsstaat van A tot Z (en omgekeerd), een terreurentiteit en haar beschermeling die beiden tot aan de neus in het bloed van onschuldige slachtoffers staan........... 

Overigens is het zo dat Israëlische gevechtsvliegtuigen wanneer zij doelen in Syrie aanvallen, dit altijd doen vanuit Libanees luchtruim, een (oorlogs-) misdaad van formaat, waar de westerse wereld echter van wegkijkt, het gaat immers om Israël en dat staat blijkbaar onder en boven de wet en de internationale wetgeving........

Volgens Rusland heeft Israel deze laffe en uiterst gevaarlijke manier van aanvallen eerder meermaals gebruikt, september vorig jaar nog werd zo een Russisch vliegtuig met 15 inzittenden geraakt door Syrisch afweergeschut....... 

Wat mij betreft zet dit nog eens extra vraagtekens bij het neerhalen van vlucht PS752, immers dit Oekraïense passagiersvliegtuig werd uit de lucht gehaald op een moment dat Iran een tegenaanval van de VS kon verwachten...... Voorts zou de luchtafweerradar van het Iraanse leger van buitenaf zijn gestoord en als er één land moet worden aangewezen die de hand niet omdraait voor een dergelijke smerige en laffe streek is het de VS wel, de grootste terreurentiteit ter wereld....... 

Je moet je dan ook afvragen wie er belang bij had om vlucht PS572 uit de lucht te halen en je komt vanzelf bij de Trump administratie (en Israël) uit, waar de VS al lang een enorme stok zoekt om Iran mee te slaan en Israel Iran het liefst zou willen aanvallen met kernraketten........ (op zeker dat de fascistische apartheidsregering van Israël opgetogen moet zijn geweest met zoveel slachtoffers, waaronder Iraniërs......)

(MEE) — Russia accused the Israeli army of using a civilian flight carrying 172 passengers as a shield during its air strikes on targets in Syria on Thursday.

According to Russian defence ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, the passenger plane was flying from Tehran to Damascus International Airport, but made an emergency landing at Russia’s Hmeimim air base near Latakia in northwest Syria after coming under fire from Syrian air defences.

“The recourse to civilian aircraft as cover or to block a riposte by Syrian forces during military air operations has become characteristic of the Israeli air force,” the ministry spokesperson said in a statement published by Russian media on Friday.

Israeli radars have “a clear view of the situation in the skies around Damascus airport”, Konashenkov said, accusing Israel of “making a total mockery of the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians”.

Syria on Thursday said it had intercepted Israeli missiles on military targets in Damascus and the south of Syria.

An opposition group said 23 Syrian and foreign soldiers allied with President Bashar al-Assad’s government were killed in the attacks.

Israel has yet to comment on the air strikes, but it has repeatedly bombed Iranian militia targets in Syria, which it says aim to end Iran’s military presence in the war-torn country.

Konashenkov said the civilian plane landed safely after diverting to Hmeimim.

“At the time of the attack by Israeli planes… an Airbus-320 airliner was on approach to landing… in the death zone of air strikes and artillery,” he said.

The “quick reaction” of air traffic controllers at Damascus airport enabled the A320 to leave the zone “which was in the firing line of Syrian anti-aircraft defence systems”.

While Russia did not name the airline, data from Flight Radar indicated it was a Syrian Cham Wings plane.

Last month, Iran said it unintentionally shot down a Ukraine International Airlines civilian flight in Tehran, killing all 176 people on board.

The disaster took place in the midst of heightened tensions in the region after the US killed Iran’s top military commander Qassem Soleimani in Iraq on 3 January.

Iran and its allied Lebanese group, Hezbollah, have backed Assad in the devastating nine-year war that has killed half a million people and displaced millions more.

Russia joined Assad and his allies in 2015, supplying his army with its S-300 air-defence system after Syrian defence systems shot down a Russian aircraft by mistake during an Israeli raid last September, killing all 15 people on board.

De Iraakse generaal Ahmed Adnan, hoofd van de geheime dienst van de federale politie op luchtmachtbasis K-1, stelde dat alles wijst op een aanslag van IS, of Daesh zoals hij deze terreurgroep aanduidt.......

De VS heeft onbeschoft genoeg (zeker naar de overheid van Irak) geen enkel bewijs overgeleverd waaruit blijkt dat de Hezbollah militie verantwoordelijk was voor de raketaanval. Bovendien moet niet vergeten worden dat de VS ook met deze Iraanse militie heeft samengewerkt tegen IS, precies zoals het leger van de VS (dat in feite niets te zoeken heeft in het Midden-Oosten) samenwerkte met generaal Soleimani in het bestrijden van IS........

De Hezbollah militie is zelfs al sinds 2014 niet meer in de Iraakse provincie Kirkoek geweest, de provincie waar de raketaanval plaatsvond, terwijl IS daar nog kort tevoren aanvallen uitvoerde.... Voorts werden de raketten afgevuurd uit een gebied dat wordt beheerd door soennitische terreurgroepen.... Uitermate vreemd te moeten lezen dat de VS in november en december vorig jaar werd gewaarschuwd voor een IS aanval op luchtmachtbasis K-1, een Iraakse luchtmachtbasis die door de VS wordt gebruikt, maar daar blijkbaar niets mee heeft gedaan.

Kortom IS heeft de VS aangevallen en als gevolg daarvan was het bijna oorlog tussen Iran en de VS (dat overigens al jaren een fikse stok zoekt om Iran mee te slaan en wat dat betreft blijft de VS het Midden-Oosten destabiliseren, verder is het niet ondenkbaar dat Trump zal besluiten om Iran alsnog aan te vallen...... 

Vergeet niet dat alleen de sancties van de VS tegen Iran in feite al een oorlogsverklaring vormen aan het adres van het Iraanse volk, dat moet leiden onder de sancties zodat ze in opstand komen tegen het bewind, een tactiek die de VS al zo vaak eerder heeft gebruikt...... Benieuwd hoeveel slachtoffers deze smerige VS sancties tegen Iran al hebben gemaakt onder kinderen, chronisch patiënten en ouderen in dat land......

Als nu nog naar buiten komt dat de VS de luchtverdediging van het Iraanse leger heeft gestoorde tijdens het neerhalen van vlucht PS752, kan het zich weer op de borst kloppen voor een groot aantal extra doden (waaronder een flink aantal Iraniërs) op de meer dan 2,5 miljoen door de VS vermoorde mensen sinds 2001.....**

De VS, onbetwist verreweg de grootste terreurentiteit op onze kleine aarde........

(CD) — In a “bombshell” revelation that calls into question one of the Trump administration’s stated justificiations for assassinating Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani—a move that nearly sparked a region-wide military conflict—Iraqi intelligence officials told the New York Times that they believe ISIS, not an Iran-linked militia, was likely responsible for the Dec. 27 rocket attack that killed an American contractor at an air base near Kirkuk, Iraq.

The Times reported Thursday that “Iraqi military and intelligence officials have raised doubts about who fired the rockets… saying they believe it is unlikely that the militia the United States blamed for the attack” was responsible.

“All the indications are that it was Daesh,” Brigadier General Ahmed Adnan, the Iraqi chief of intelligence for the federal police at the K-1 air base, told the Times, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS. “We know Daesh’s movements.”

The Trump administration has not released a single piece of evidence showing that the Iraqi militia Khataib Hezbollah, which has ties to Iran, was responsible for the attack on K-1. The group has denied carrying out the attack.

The U.S. responded to the rocket attack days later with deadly airstrikes on Khataib Hezbollah targets in Iraq and Syria, setting off a dangerous escalatory spiral that brought Iran and the U.S. to the brink of war.

On Jan. 2, the U.S. assassinated Soleimani with a drone strike in Baghdad ordered by President Donald Trump. Following the assassination, which was widely condemned as an act of war, the U.S. Department of Defense issued a statement claiming without evidence that Soleimani “orchestrated attacks on coalition bases in Iraq over the last several months—including the attack on December 27th—culminating in the death and wounding of additional American and Iraqi personnel.”

But Iraqi officials told the Times that “based on circumstantial evidence and long experience in the area where the attack took place,” there is good reason to be skeptical about U.S. claims that Khataib Hezbollah was behind it.
As the Times reported:

The rockets were launched from a Sunni Muslim part of Kirkuk Province notorious for attacks by the Islamic State, a Sunni terrorist group, which would have made the area hostile territory for a Shiite militia like Khataib Hezbollah.

Khataib Hezbollah has not had a presence in Kirkuk Province since 2014.

The Islamic State, however, had carried out three attacks relatively close to the base in the 10 days before the attack on K-1. Iraqi intelligence officials sent reports to the Americans in November and December warning that ISIS intended to target K-1, an Iraqi air base in Kirkuk Province that is also used by American forces…

These facts all point to the Islamic State, Iraqi officials say.

“We as Iraqi forces cannot even come to this area unless we have a large force because it is not secure,” Brig. Gen. Adnan said of the area from which the rocket attack was launched. “How could it be that someone who doesn’t know the area could come here and find that firing position and launch an attack?”
In response to the Times report, Jamal Abdi, president of the National Iranian American Council, tweeted: “Al-Qaeda attacked the U.S. on 9/11 and we went to war with Iraq. If this report is true, ISIS attacked the U.S. and we nearly went to war with Iran.”

U.S. officials insisted to the Times that they have “solid evidence” showing that Khataib Hezbollah carried out the attack, but they have not released any of this evidence to the public or to Iraqi officials.

“We have requested the American side to share with us any information, any evidence, but they have not sent us any information,” Lt. Gen. Muhammad al-Bayati, chief of staff for former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, told the Times.

Ilan Goldenberg, Middle East security director at the Center for a New American Security think tank, tweeted that the U.S. Congress “must ask questions about this and get the intel.”
Responsible Statecraft managing editor Benjamin Armbruster agreed.

KLM vliegt weer over oorlogsgebied Iran - Irak, terwijl andere maatschappijen waaronder Air France het gebied mijden

Vanmorgen op BNR (rond 8.43 u.) het bericht dat de KLM weer over het oorlogsgebied Iran - Irak vliegt. Een expertgroep beoordeelt van dag tot dag of het veilig is om over dit gebied te vliegen....... De partner van de KLM, Air France, vliegt als andere luchtvaartmaatschappijen niet over dit gebied.......

Blijkbaar heeft de KLM niets geleerd van het vlucht MH17 neerhalen, toen men van de luchtvaartautoriteiten toestemming kreeg om te vliegen, ondanks dat alle Oekraïense radarposten waren uitgeschakeld en het vliegtuig een iets andere route moest nemen dan men gewend was, een route recht over het oostelijke Oekraïense oorlogsgebied (beide zaken doet men normaal gesproken nooit!)....... 

De luchtmacht en de marine van de VS hebben een technologie ontwikkeld waarmee radar gefopt kan worden, dus ofwel men ziet niets of men ziet een vliegtuig dat er niet is..... The Guardian heeft bericht dat de VS al langer bezig is met de ontwikkeling van een technologie waarmee op afstand de beschikbare Iraanse raketten kunnen worden gemanipuleerd...... Moch e.e.a. hebben plaatsgevonden is het vrijwel zeker dat de VS erachter zit, het zou dan de zoveelste false flag operatie zijn van deze wereldwijd verreweg grootste terreurentiteit........ (de VS heeft vorig jaar al erkend dat de CIA al jaren bezig is de boel te verstoren in Iran en op zo'n manier probeert een staatsgreep te forceren......)

Meer dan schandalig dat de KLM weer over oorlogsgebied vliegt....

Over deze vreselijke vliegramp gesproken: Information Clearing House bracht op 20 januari het bericht (origineel van de 'American Herald Tribune') dat de Iraanse luchtverdediging ten tijde van het neerhalen van vlucht PS752 met opzet werd gestoord.... Verder schrijft Giraldi o.a. over de videoopnames die 's morgens vroeg op afstand werden gemaakt, 'toevallig precies op het goede moment' en dan ook nog 'geheel toevallig' op het deel van de lucht gericht waar te zien is dat vlucht 752 wordt getroffen.... Iran Shot It Down But There May Be More to the Story

January 20, 2020 "Information Clearing House" - The claim that Major General Qassem Soleimani was a “terrorist” on a mission to carry out an “imminent” attack that would kill hundreds of Americans turned out to be a lie, so why should one believe anything else relating to recent developments in Iran and Iraq? To be sure, Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 departing from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport on the morning of January 8^th with 176 passengers and crew on board was shot down by Iranian air defenses, something which the government of the Islamic Republic has admitted, but there just might  be considerably more to the story involving cyberwarfare carried out by the U.S. and possibly Israeli governments.

To be sure, the Iranian air defenses were on high alert fearing an American attack in the wake of the U.S. government’s assassination of Soleimani on January 3^rd followed by a missile strike from Iran directed against two U.S. bases in Iraq. In spite of the tension and the escalation, the Iranian government did not shut down the country’s airspace. Civilian passenger flights were still departing and arriving in Tehran, almost certainly an error in judgment on the part of the airport authorities. Inexplicably, civilian aircraft continued to take off and land even after Flight 752 was shot down.

Fifty-seven of the passengers on the flight were Canadians of Iranian descent, leading Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to point the finger both at the Iranian government for its carelessness and also at Washington, observing angrily that the Trump Administration had deliberately and recklessly sought to “escalate tensions” with Iran through an attack near Baghdad Airport, heedless of the impact on travelers and other civilians in the region.

What seems to have been a case of bad judgements and human error does, however, include some elements that have yet to be explained. The Iranian missile operator reportedly experienced considerable “jamming” and the planes transponder switched off and stopped transmitting several minutes before the missiles were launched. There were also problems with the communication network of the air defense command, which may have been related.

The electronic jamming coming from an unknown source meant that the air defense system was placed on manual operation, relying on human intervention to launch. The human role meant that an operator had to make a quick judgment in a pressure situation in which he had only moments to react. The shutdown of the transponder, which would have automatically signaled to the operator and Tor electronics that the plane was civilian, instead automatically indicated that it was hostile. The operator, having been particularly briefed on the possibility of incoming American cruise missiles, then fired.

The two missiles that brought the plane down came from a Russian-made system designated SA-15 by NATO and called Tor by the Russians. Its eight missiles are normally mounted on a tracked vehicle. The system includes both radar to detect and track targets as well as an independent launch system, which includes an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system functionality capable of reading call signs and transponder signals to prevent accidents. Given what happened on that morning in Tehran, it is plausible to assume that something or someone deliberately interfered with both the Iranian air defenses and with the transponder on the airplane, possibly as part of an attempt to create an aviation accident that would be attributed to the Iranian government.

The SA-15 Tor defense system used by Iran has one major vulnerability. It can be hacked or "spoofed," permitting an intruder to impersonate a legitimate user and take control. The United States Navy and Air Force reportedly have developed technologies “that can fool enemy radar systems with false and deceptively moving targets." Fooling the system also means fooling the operator. The Guardian has also reported independently  how the United States military has long been developing systems that can from a distance alter the electronics and targeting of Iran’s available missiles.

The same technology can, of course, be used to alter or even mask the transponder on a civilian airliner in such a fashion as to send false information about identity and location. The United States has the cyber and electronic warfare capability to both jam and alter signals relating to both airliner transponders and to the Iranian air defenses. Israel presumably has the same ability. Joe Quinn at Sott.net also notes an interested back story to those photos and video footage that have appeared in the New York Times and elsewhere showing the Iranian missile launch, the impact with the plane and the remains after the crash, to include the missile remains. They appeared on January 9^th, in an Instagram account called 'Rich Kids of Tehran'. Quinn asks how the Rich Kids happened to be in “a low-income housing estate on the city's outskirts [near the airport] at 6 a.m. on the morning of January 8^th with cameras pointed at the right part of the sky in time to capture a missile hitting a Ukrainian passenger plane…?”

Put together the Rich Kids and the possibility of electronic warfare and it all suggests a premeditated and carefully planned event of which the Soleimani assassination was only a part. There have been riots in Iran subsequent to the shooting down of the plane, blaming the government for its ineptitude. Some of the people in the street are clearly calling for the goal long sought by the United States and Israel, i.e. “regime change.” If nothing else, Iran, which was widely seen as the victim in the killing of Soleimani, is being depicted in much of the international media as little more than another unprincipled actor with blood on its hands. There is much still to explain about the downing of Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752.

Mijn excuus voor de vormgeving, krijg het niet op orde.

Soleimani moord: VS pleegde een daad van oorlog

De moord op Qassem Soleimani is een daad van oorlog, aldus Philip Giraldi, waar ik aan toe zou willen voegen, dat het ronduit een oorlogsverklaring is aan het Iraanse bewind en het Iraanse volk...... De VS probeert al jaren een opstand te ontketenen in Iran, NB toegegeven door de VS, dat vorig jaar liet weten dat de CIA inderdaad al jaren werkzaam is in Iran en daar probeert een opstand te organiseren, terwijl de door de CIA georganiseerde gewelddadige demonstraties* daar, 'helaas' voor de VS, snel doodbloeden....

Na het voorgaande is de hoofdleidraad nu een stok te zoeken om de 'Iraanse hond' te slaan.... Hoewel 'nu?' De VS zoekt al sinds dat Trump aan het bewind is een reden om Iran aan te vallen, niet in de laatste plaats omdat Israël dat wenst.....

De negatieve reacties n.a.v. de moord op Soleimani heeft de Trump administratie verrast, ook al hebben een aantal hielenlikkende westerse staten, waaronder Nederland, deze oorlogsverklaring gesteund..... De verrassing was zo groot dat de VS niets heeft ondernomen nadat Iran 2 VS bases in Irak heeft aangevallen met raketten....

In eerste instantie stelde de VS dat Soleimani aanslagen voorbereidde op VS doelen en dat men hem daarom heeft vermoord, uiteraard lulkoek, immers met de dood van Soleimani zou een dergelijke militaire operatie niet zijn gestopt, integendeel men zou die waarschijnlijk onmiddellijk hebben uitgevoerd..... 

Het voorgaande terwijl Iran voor haar wraakactie n.a.v. de moord op Soleimani, de Iraakse overheid van tevoren waarschuwde een raketaanval uit te zullen voeren op 2 militaire bases van de VS, waar uiteraard ook Irakezen werken..... (daarmee werd ook het militaire apparaat van de VS in Irak gewaarschuwd)

Een paar dagen na de moord op Soleimani stelde de VS dat deze een aanval wilde plegen op de VS ambassade in Bagdad, dit werd een paar uur later vervolgd met de mededeling dat Soleimani ook andere westerse ambassades in Bagdad wilde aanvallen..... Tja als je hulp wilt van je partners in oorlogsmisdaden, ofwel de andere NAVO-lidstaten, vertel je simpelweg dat men ook de ambassades van deze lidstaten wilde aanvallen, zeker nadat een aantal van die staten kritiek hadden op de moord die de VS op Soleimani pleegde (en nee, tot die staten behoort Nederland niet, de hielenlikkers hier durfden te stellen dat het een goede zaak was dat Soleimani werd vermoord, ook al was hij één van de grote strategen die IS enorme klappen toebracht, zelfs al voor de VS daadwerkelijk iets deed tegen IS, anders dan wapens, munitie en rollend oorlogstuig leveren aan deze terreurgroep.....).....

Het neerhalen van vlucht PS752 was een enorme blunder van het Iraanse bewind, al zijn er nu redenen om aan te nemen dat de luchtverdediging van Iran werd gestoord tijdens het opstijgen van deze rampvlucht. Voorts moet niet vergeten worden dat het neerhalen van dit vliegtuig een aantal uren gebeurde nadat Iran 2 VS bases in Irak met raketten heeft bestookt, ofwel de luchtverdediging was in opperste staat van paraatheid en de kans op ongelukken is op dat moment bepaald niet ondenkbaar....... Gelukkig heeft Iran toegegeven het vliegtuig te hebben neergehaald.....

Daarover gesproken: de VS had in 1988 heel wat meer moeite met toegeven dat het een Iraans passagiersvliegtuig met 290 inzittenden uit de lucht had geschoten, t.w. vlucht IA655, zogenaamd per ongeluk, terwijl onderzoeken later uitwezen dat de VS wel degelijk wist dat het een passagiersvliegtuig betrof......

Het artikel hieronder, zoals gezegd geschreven door Giraldi, verscheen eerder op Strategic Culture (CS) en werd door mij overgenomen van Anti-Media. Giraldi gaat vooral in op de illegaliteit van de moord op Soleimani (al is een moord uiteraard altijd illegaal, denkt de VS het recht te hebben mensen te kunnen vermoorden zonder enige rechterlijk proces, neem ook de drone aanvallen van de VS, waarbij meer dan 90% van de doden niet eens werd verdacht...). Voorts stelt Giraldi volkomen terecht dat de tactiek van Trump, het vermoorden van leidende figuren als Soleimani, zich wel eens als een boemerang kan keren tegen de VS, ofwel dat men VS burgers, politici en militairen als doelwit zal nemen en dat in veel grotere getale dan tot nu toe ooit vertoond.......  

Lees het artikel en geeft het door, zeker daar met de zoveelste terreurdaad van de VS de de boel in het Midden-Oosten nog verder heeft gedestabiliseerd dan je voor mogelijk had gehouden (behalve dan natuurlijk het eventueel beginnen van een volledige oorlog door de VS tegen Iran)..... De VS, de terreurentiteit die het Midden-Oosten al in vuur en vlam heeft gezet en daarbij vanaf 2001 fors meer dan 2,5 miljoen mensen heeft vermoord, dan wel daar de hoofdverantwoordelijke voor is, waar wij lullig genoeg ook een steen aan bij hebben gedragen (overigens bij die > 2,5 miljoen moorden, worden ook de slachtoffers van het agressieve VS buitenlandbeleid in Afghanistan, Libië en Pakistan gerekend):

(SC Op-Ed) — Once upon a time there was a Constitution of the United States. In Article II, Section 2 it stipulated that only the U.S. Congress has the power to declare war, which means the American president has to go to the legislative body and make a case for going to war against an enemy or enemies. If there is a vote in favor of war, the president is empowered as commander-in-chief to direct the available resources against the enemy.

There is also something called international law. Under international law there are situations in which a head of state or head of government can use military force defensively or even preemptively if there is a substantial threat that is imminent. But normally, a country has to go through a procedure similar to that in the U.S. Constitution, which means making a case that the war is justified before declaring war. The Nuremberg Tribunals ruled that starting a war of aggression is the ultimate crime.

The president has already declared that he needs no approval from Congress or from anyone else to initiate further military operations against Iran in the Middle East, even if the action taken is “disproportionate.” Meanwhile he, the State Department and the Pentagon are all stating, without presenting any evidence at all to the public, that Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani was planning attacks that would kill “hundreds of Americans” as a casus belli justifying his assassination. The White House is also asserting that the killing was done to “stop a war,” which makes no sense even coming from the addled tweet-conditioned brain of Donald J. Trump. And if one still harbors suspicions that Trump might actually be of sound mind, it is possible to listen to him on the day after the assassination while speaking to a gathering of his supporters at an evangelical church in Florida. He told the cheering crowd that “God is on our side” and that Soleimani “…was planning a very major attack, and we got him.” The audience went wild in approval, chanting “four more years.”

Such chest beating moments of pretend strong leadership coming from president bone spurs as well as similar justifications for an assassination that will be surfacing over the next few days simply do not pass the smell test. Take the window dressing away from the Pentagon and media propaganda and all one has left is that the United States illegally and openly killed a senior official from a country with which it is not at war and did so without the consent of the third country where the assassination took place with which the U.S. is also not at war. The assassination was not in reality based on any imminent threat and is therefore illegal under international law and is undeniably an unconstitutional act of war directed against both Iran and Iraq.

What is particularly bizarre about Trump-think on this issue is that the assassination was carried out right in the open in a country with which the United States has had of late a friendly relationship and which allows American soldiers to be based on its soil. Judging from the crowds of protesters gathered in Baghdad to protest the killing, that somewhat comfortable arrangement is about to end. And it will also end American involvement in neighboring Syria, which will be unsustainable without a presence in Iraq. That is the only good news to come out of the assassination.

To be sure nations at war will try and sometimes succeed to assassinate enemy leaders, and the intelligence services of various countries also have been known to kill foreign politicians who are considered to be threatening. America’s best friend Israel leads the world in that statistic. But spy agencies work their mischief on a basis of plausible denial, which means that the countries that carry out assassinations make every effort to obscure their role and permit deniability.

The difference in what the White House has done now is that another page has been turned in the process of the United States going completely rogue. It all started when George W. Bush warned that “you’re either with us or against us.” Barack Obama subsequently labored over his Tuesday morning kill lists, which included American citizens, and the Trump White House has now expanded that license, asserting that it can act with complete impunity and out in the open to kill anyone at any time anywhere without due process or any actual demonstrated cause or accountability.

Donald Trump should be aware that there is considerable downside to the tiger than he has let out of its cage. What will he do if “enemies” all over the world decide to copy the Trump example and kill American diplomats, soldiers and tourists because they oppose U.S. policies. And what about if they up the ante a little bit and kill senior Ambassadors, Congressmen, and even succeed in killing a presidential cabinet member or two. Trump in his foolishness has invited reciprocity and has even granted those who do the killing a certain immunity if they are claiming that they are doing it to stop something worse, i.e. war.

Finally, if the target of the assassination had been anyone but an Iranian, Israel’s enemy, one can count on there being hell to pay with Congress and the media over Trump’s having gone completely off the rails. Assassinating a foreign leader as a new United States government policy has to be an impeachable offense. Forget about obstruction of justice and collusion with foreigners: assassination is the real deal and if it does not constitute a high crime, it is hard for one to imagine what does. By all means let’s impeach Trump based on what he has actually done, not on speculation over what he might have connived at.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has repeatedly justified the U.S. “extreme pressure” directed against Tehran, demanding that Islamic Republic take steps to become a “normal country.” The real question should be, “When will the United States of America become normal?”
