De minste van 2 kwaden: een niet bestaand concept als het om de verkiezingen in de VS gaat

Caitlin Johnstone heeft in een kort en bondig artikel uitgelegd, dat 'the lesser of two evils' (de minste van twee kwaden) een niet bestaand concept is als het gaat om de presidentsverkiezingen van a.s. november in de VS, immers of een land nu wordt aangevallen door een Republikeinse of Democratische administratie, maakt geen verschil in de ellende waarin het 'slachtoffervolk' terechtkomt, ook al zeggen die administraties dat ze e.e.a doen voor het eigen bestwil van dat volk en 'het brengen van democratie' (en daarbij wordt maar al te vaak een land aangevallen dat een democratische gekozen regering heeft en waarbij die regering werd verkozen in verkiezingen die werden gecontroleerd door internationale waarnemers en door hen werden goedgekeurd...)..... 

Ook de schending van mensenrechten wordt vaak als argument aangevoerd om een land aan te vallen, terwijl de VS de grootste schenders van mensenrechten steunt, zoals Saoedi-Arabië en Israël..... In alle gevallen blijven VS bommen en raketten dood en verderf zaaien...... 

Overigens bleek tijdens de Democratische Conventie van vorige week dat Biden een veel agressievere buitenlandpolitiek voorstaat dan de Trump administratie heeft laten zien, doelen o.a. het Midden-Oosten, Rusland en China (en reken maar dat Biden onder het Midden-Oosten ook Iran rekent......) Kortom het feit dat de VS in feite het Vierde Rijks is en daarmee de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde, zal niet veranderen met oorlogsmisdadiger Biden...... In een later bericht zal ik wat verder ingaan op die Democratische conventie.

Lees dit korte schrijven van Johnstone, waarin ze ook nog even ingaat op religies die in feite zijn bedacht om mensen koest te houden en netjes in het gareel te laten lopen, ook al is dat gareel in het grootste deel van de gevallen dood en vernietiging brengen, zo heeft de geschiedenis iets te vaak laten zien...... Vergeet bijvoorbeeld niet dat de genocide op de 'indianen' in de VS werd uitgevoerd met de bijbel in de hand!! I really don't mean to be a pest about this but we are still trapped on a planet where people without functioning empathy centers are waving literal armageddon weapons around in the name of a made-up concept called unipolarism. We should probably put a stop to that.

If you see two separate mainstream political parties, it looks like one is the lesser evil. If you see two oligarchic sock puppets held by the same oligarchy, it looks like they're both being used to bully you into consenting to an entire system which isn't designed to serve you.

If you see the latter, what is the correct response? What is the correct response to someone saying you must beg them to punch you with their left hand or they'll punch you a bit harder with their right? Is it to beg for the left fist? Or is it to knock your abuser the fuck out?

When the oligarchy tells you "Vote for my left party or my right party will take away your civil rights", the correct response is not bowing to its demands, nor voting right-wing out of spite, nor even merely voting third party. The only correct response is to tear down the oligarchy.

De 'geheime oorlog' van de VS en Israël tegen Iran

Gewelddadige aanvallen, inclusief enorme explosies in Iran en dat op regelmatige basis, geven aan dat hier sprake is van een georganiseerd plan om Iran op de knieën te krijgen..... Zoeken naar de daders is niet nodig: de VS en Israël hebben zich het recht toegeëigend om in het Midden-Oosten op te treden zoals het hen belieft. intussen houdt Israël zich bezig met een enorm aantal illegale aanvallen op landen als Irak, Syrië en nu dus ook Iran..... (alles illegaal via het luchtruim van Libanon......) Het is dan ook duidelijk dat de VS en Israël hier een stiekeme illegale ooorlog voeren tegen een soeverein land.......

Al wat misgaat in het Midden-Oosten als gevolg van de illegale overheersing van dat gebied door de grootste terreurentiteit op onze kleine planeet de: VS, wordt in de schoenen van Iran geschoven...... Neem alleen al de genocide die nu al een aantal jaren gaande is in Jemen, verantwoordelijke daarvoor is de Saoedische terreurcoalitie, met intussen meer dan 500.000 slachtoffers, een aantal dat met de dag stijgt (zeker nu ook het Coronavirus huishoudt in dit land met zo enorm veel verzwakte mensen.....) Ondanks alle bewijzen van deze door het westen gesteunde genocice, blijft het westen met de VS voorop naar Iran wijzen, zonder ook maar een flinter aan bewijs te leveren...... Dit terwijl de VS en Groot-Brittannië deze genocide ook militair steunen.......
  
Naast het feit dat de VS en GB deelnemers zijn van die Saoedische terreurcoalitie, steunen de andere westerse landen met Frankrijk voorop deze terreurcoalitie met wapens in de breedste zin van het woord, dus inclusief rollend, varen en vliegend oorlogstuig, verder worden wapenonderdelen geleverd door o.a. Nederland, ook al is het internationaal verboden om landen als het reli-fascistische Saoedi-Arabië met wapens te steunen, juist door haar illegale oorlog die het tegen de sjiitische bevolking van Jemen voert...... (nogmaals: een oorlog die als genocide wordt uitgevoerd, het kan niet vaak ngenoeg gezegd worden)

Maar zoals gezegd: als je de westerse reguliere media moet geloven is daar vooral Iran de schuldige, terwijl men dit land alleen met bewijzen 'kan aanklagen', die aangeven dat die hulp van humanitaire aard was........ 

Onbegrijpelijk dat de reguliere westerse (massa-) media niet uitvoerig berichten over de gehieme illegale oorlog tegen Iran, immers als de vlam echt in de pan slaat staan die media ongelofelijk voor paal (al zal men dan ongetwijfeld spreken over de 'plotselinge Iraanse agressie', uiteraard zonder de eerdere geheime oorlog en sancties tegen het Iraanse volk te noemen.....).

The undeclared war against Iran

July 20, 2020 "Information Clearing House" - A series of violent attacks, involving explosions and fires, has been hitting Iran. The incidents have been too frequent and intense to be random accidents. They are part of an organized effort.

Caution is always advisable in attributing responsibility for such unclaimed acts, especially for all of us outside the government channels that possibly have better information about what is going on. But circumstances point strongly, as some mainstream press reporting reflects, to either or both of two suspects: the Netanyahu government in Israel, and the Trump administration in the United States.

Both of those suspects have track records that point that same way. The most conspicuous relevant act by the Trump administration was its assassination in January, with a drone-fired missile at the Baghdad airport, of Qassem Soleimani, one of the most prominent political and military figures in Iran. The Israeli record of aggressive acts against Iran has included a series of assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists.  Those murders were part of a larger, longstanding Israeli campaign of assassinations throughout the Middle East. That campaign is in turn part of an even larger Israeli record of acts throughout the region — including, over the past couple of years, scores of aerial attacks in Syria.

Neither the Israeli government nor the Trump administration has formally declared war against Iran, but the rhetoric of each has stopped only slightly short of such a declaration. 
The Trump administration has made clear its intention to inflict as much pain as possible on Iran, including but not limited to economic sanctions. The Netanyahu government’s voluminous rhetoric on Iran has been every bit as hostile as what has come out of Washington, or as what has come in the opposite direction from Tehran.

Make no mistake about what is going on. This is not a set of actions “short of war,” as some would put it. It is war. We certainly should worry about escalation of the conflict into something so big that everyone would call it war. But that does not make what already has transpired anything less than acts of war.

In this regard, do not be deceived by the Iranian regime’s downplaying of the recent attacks and its restraint — so far — regarding retaliation. A date circled on Iranian policymakers’ calendars is January 20, 2021. The Iranians can read American polls, and the dominant thread at the moment in Iranian thinking about security policy is to tough it out until there is regime change in Washington. Iranian leaders don’t want to be suckered into the sort of October — or July — surprise that would generate a rally-round-the-flag effect in America and could rescue Donald Trump’s fading re-election chances, although they realize the restraint does risk making them appear weak.

No justification for the war

Although the current war has not been formally declared, it ought to be assessed by the same standards as one that has. Per international law and the United Nations Charter, war would be justified only in self-defense, as a response to, or possibly pre-emption of, an attack in the other direction.  That is not the current circumstance with Iran.  There is no sign that Iran is about to attack either Israel or the United States. Given that Iran would be hopelessly outclassed militarily against either of those foes, it would be foolish for Iranian leaders to contemplate such an attack.

Nor does self-defense come into play when considering proxies or other asymmetric means through which Iran might want to impose its will. A salient aspect of the large amount of ordnance that Israel has been flying across the border and dropping on targets in Syria — many of those targets reportedly connected to Syria’s ally Iran — is how there has been almost no ordnance crossing the border in the other direction, other than an odd air defense missile or two.

The weakness of any U.S. case based on self-defense was underscored by the confused official justifications for the killing of Soleimani. Hints dropped publicly about pre-empting a supposedly imminent Iranian attack never led to any evidence to that effect.  In the end, the U.S. administration’s rationale rested mainly on Soleimani’s past role in supporting Iraqi militia operations that incurred American casualties during fighting in Iraq. That fighting was a direct result of an offensive war — an act of aggression — that the United States launched in 2003.

Iran’s nuclear program has been a focus of attention in recent years, and one of the most publicized of the recent attacks on Iran was at the nuclear facility at Natanz. But the multilateral agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) , which placed severe restrictions on the Iranian program, did a far better job of keeping a possible Iranian nuclear weapon out of reach than anything the Trump administration has done since reneging on the agreement two years ago, after which Iran accelerated its nuclear activity. 
As Mark Fitzpatrick of the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) observes, the JCPOA did a better job in that regard than attacks such as the one on Natanz.

The attacks also do nothing to deter aggressive or otherwise undesirable Iranian actions.  Deterrence requires conditionality: pain is inflicted after bad behavior and avoided after good behavior. But the U.S. and Israeli governments seem determined to inflict pain no matter what Iran does — as underscored by the Trump administration’s reneging on the JCPOA and launching its “maximum pressure” campaign even though Iran was fully complying with its obligations under the agreement. Iran is being given an incentive only to retaliate, not to behave well.

Eventual retaliation, despite Tehran’s relative restraint so far, is one of the risks of the current undeclared war. Escalation into something bigger and more destructive is another risk. Even without such escalation, the current campaign extends indefinitely one of the fronts in America’s “forever war” in the Middle East.

Nor is any good coming out of the attacks in terms of weakening Iran or shifting a regional balance of power in America’s favor. Instead, it strengthens Iran’s reasons to find support from — and in so doing foster the influence of — the likes of Russia and China.

Israeli objectives

To the extent the Trump administration is condoning, turning a blind eye toward, or even colluding with Israeli attacks on Iran, this is bad news for U.S. interests. U.S. interests are different from those of Israel, and even more different from those of the current Netanyahu-led government.

That government has an interest in perpetuating high tension with Iran to keep Iran as a bête noire blamable for all the ills of the Middle East, to preclude any rapprochement between Washington and Tehran, to promote Israeli relations with the Gulf Arab states, and to distract attention from issues that bring international scrutiny and criticism on Israel. At the moment, Netanyahu’s incentives in this regard are stronger than ever, which may help to explain the timing of the recent wave of attacks. The distraction value of stoking the conflict with Iran has increased as Netanyahu contemplates formal annexation of parts of the West Bank and the international condemnation that will come with it.

Netanyahu also, like the Iranians, is aware of the U.S. electoral calendar and American opinion polls. He may see the next few months as an optimal and limited time for stirring the regional pot even more than Israel has in the past, while his friend Donald Trump is still in power. To the extent the stirring helps his friend’s re-election chances, so much the better from his point of view.

Netanyahu is unlikely to be worrying about escalation into a bigger war, which would serve his purposes even more dramatically. Goading Iran into retaliating in a way that would spark such a war may have been one of the objectives of the recent attacks. And it would not be Netanyahu’s job to count any ensuing American casualties.

Israël wil blijkbaar graag dat het Midden-Oosten in haar geheel ontploft, zijn ze nu helemaal gek geworden??!!! Bovendien is het uiteraard levensgevaarlijk om een werkende kerncentrale te bombarderen, dit is dan ook zonder meer een ernstige oorlogsmisdaad!!

Onbegrijpelijk dat de reguliere westerse media geen aandacht aan deze zeer ernstige zaak hebben geschonken.....

De fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël denkt onder en boven de wet te staan: hoe lang staat de wereld nog toe dat deze terreurstaat door gaat met haar bloedige etnische zuivering van de Palestijnse gebieden en dat met methoden die ronduit een misdaad tegen de menselijkheid zijn? Hoe lang laat de wereld het toe dat Israël naar goeddunken doelen bombardeert alsof het daarvoor een resolutie van de VN heeft? En hoe lang laat de wereld toe dat Israël bloedige regimes volpropt met wapens en desgevraagd zelfs chemische wapens levert, die Israël nog steeds ontwikkelt en verkoopt........ (Israël heeft als Egypte het verdrag tegen ontwikkeling, fabricage en verspreiding van chemische wapens dan 'ook niet' getekend...)

Kritiek hebben op de uiterst gewelddadige fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël heeft niets maar dan ook helemaal niets met antisemitisme te maken, hoe dom of slecht moet je zijn om dat te zeggen??!!!! Elk ander land dat handelde als Israël was al lang aangeklaagd bij het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC*) en was al lang en breed doelwit geweest van een fikse boycot...... Vandaar ook dat de wereld al decennialang overtijd is met het voor het gerecht slepen van Israël en als dat niet lukt bijvoorbeeld door tegenwerking van terreurstaat VS, dit land volledig te boycotten, zoals eerder de apartheidsstaat Zuid-Afrika werd geboycot en dat met groot succes!!!

Het is 2020 en het moet eindelijk afgelopen zijn met de verdrukking van het Palestijnse volk en met de illegale bombardementen die Israël uitvoert waar het maar uitkomt!! (illegale bombardementsvluchten en dat meestal door eerst het Libanese luchtruim te schenden, Libanon een land dat hier niets tegen kan ondernemen......)

Helaas kunnen wij de petitie niet tekenen, het staat ons echter vrij de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël te boycotten, dus koopt geen artikelen uit dit uiterst gewelddadige land!! (en nogmaals: ook dat heeft niets met antisemitisme te maken!!)

Israel just bombed Iran. How can we stop a war?

Last Thursday, Israel bombed Iran. Not only did they attack Iran, but they targeted and hit the Natanz nuclear facility located about 200 miles outside of Tehran. 

Last Thursday, Israel exploded a massive bomb at the Iranian Natanz nuclear site. It doesn’t get more dangerous than this and we have to act fast to prevent Israel from starting and dragging the U.S. into war. It doesn’t get more dangerous than this. Iran could retaliate at any moment and Netanyahu could achieve his goal of dragging the U.S. into another disastrous Middle East war. Act now. The explosion at the Natanz nuclear facility was the third incident of its kind in Iran recently. 
There was also an explosion near the Iranian Parchin military site in northeast Tehran and a fire at a Tehran medical clinic that killed 19 people. A Middle Eastern intelligence official told the New York Times that Israel was behind the Natanz attack — Israel has not denied it — and it is possible that Israel was behind the two other recent explosions as well. Iran says that they have and will soon release the details of what happened at Natanz, but one thing already seems to be clear: despite the COVID-19 pandemic raging throughout the world, Israel seems hell-bent on war. 

Trump (and other U.S. presidents before him) have sent Israel the message that if they go to war — even a war that they outright provoke — the massive U.S. war machine will back them. “If we think for a minute that the Trump administration isn’t ready and willing to go to war, think again,” Senator Udall stated upon introducing his amendment. On June 30, 2020, Brian Hook, the Trump administration’s Special Representative for Iran, affirmed that “The military option is always on the table.” “With this kind of continuing saber-rattling,” Udall said, 

“We must send a clear message to the president and his administration that initiating war against Iran is beyond the powers this president or any president holds.”

The Trump administration doesn’t actually have the sole power to go to war. In 1973 Congress passed The War Powers Act to limit the Executive branch’s power to drag the U.S. into an armed conflict. The War Powers Act states that a president can only commit the U.S. military to action abroad through a congressional declaration of war or "a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces."

Without the promise of U.S. military support, Netanyahu may think again about starting a war with Iran. W.F. Hermans en VPRO programma 'Nooit meer slapen'

Hoorde een paar dagen geleden nog eens een stukje van het Radio1 VPRO programma 'Nooit meer slapen', en beste bezoeker dat was van korte duur, wat een waardeloos programma met vooral oeverloos gezwets!

Als W.F. Hermans zou weten dat de VPRO de titel van zijn boek misbruikt voor een flutprogramma, zou hij zich bij wijze van spreken omdraaien in zijn graf........

Overigens het buitenlandprogramma van de VPRO, 'Bureau Buitenland' was en is o.a. een propagandaprogramma voor NAVO ingrijpen in het Midden-Oosten (uiteraard met terreurentiteit VS voorop) en daarmee lobbyist voor het militair-industrieel complex........ Overigens geeft het voorgaande al aan dat het programma het liefst Rusland en China demoniseert, alsof Stalin en Mao nog de scepter zwaaien......

VS gaat door met destabiliseren Irak: 5 aanvallen, waarvan één op een Iraakse militaire basis

Nadat gisteren bekend werd gemaakt dat de VS bij een aanval op een militie die zou worden gesteund door Iran, meer dan 25 strijders heeft vermoord, strijders die met succes IS (ISIS) hebben bevochten......* Dit vanwege een aanval op een militaire basis van de VS, waarbij 2 VS militairen en 1 Britse militair omkwamen..... Niet dat de VS wist dat deze militie daar verantwoordelijk voor was, maar omdat deze militie wordt gesteund door Iran, ofwel de VS schuift de schuld weer eens in de schoenen van Iran......

Vannacht om 03.00 u. meldde BBC World Service radionieuws al dat de VS 5 doelen onder vuur had genomen, waar 1 van de aanvallen op een Iraakse militaire basis, waarbij 3 Iraakse militairen, 2 politieagenten en 1 burger werden vermoord...... Volgens de nieuwslezer was dit een reactie van de VS op de hiervoor aangehaalde aanval op een VS basis... Met geen woord werd nog gerept over de aanval van de VS waarbij meer dan 25 strijders om het leven kwamen..... Ook in het nieuws van 13.00 u. vanmiddag kwam de BBC met hetzelfde bericht, zonder de 30 vermoordde militiestrijders nog te noemen (30 militieleden, want om zoveel gedode strijders ging het volgens een later BBC bericht....) ...... Ofwel: die 3 doden bij een aanval op een militaire basis van de VS, zijn blijkbaar 100 keer belangrijker dan de 30 door de VS vermoordde militieleden......

Ach ja, echte witte mensen zijn 'uiteraard' veel belangrijker dan een stelletje half gekleurde militieleden, zo kan men het volk dusdanig manipuleren dat ze geloven dat de VS goed bezig is in Irak en het Midden-Oosten in het groot..... De bevolking van Irak wil in overgrote meerderheid dat de VS en andere NAVO-partners, waaronder Nederland, vertrekken uit Irak.... Eerder vielen door schuld van de VS al meer dan 300 doden bij demonstraties tegen de grootschalige VS terreur, protest dat tot gigantische proporties groeide nadat de VS de Iraanse generaal Qassem Soleimani en een Iraakse militiegeneraal vermoordde op een vliegveld bij Bagdad....... (beide generaals waren uiterst succesvolle strategen tegen IS.....)

Waar dit weer toe zal leiden weet ik niet, maar het Iraakse volk zal nu helemaal laaiend zijn en eisen dat de terreurcoalitie van de VS het land verlaat.....

Irak: niet Iraanse militie, maar ISIS verantwoordelijk voor aanval waarvoor VS de Iraanse generaal Soleimani vermoordde

Volgens Iraakse geheime dienst medewerkers werd de raketaanval van 27 december jl., die aan een VS aannemer het leven kostte*, niet uitgevoerd door de Iraanse militie Kata'ib Hezbollah, maar door IS (ISIS)...... De Iraakse generaal Ahmed Adnan, hoofd van de geheime dienst van de federale politie op luchtmachtbasis K-1, stelde dat alles wijst op een aanslag van IS, of Daesh zoals hij deze terreurgroep aanduidt.......

De VS heeft onbeschoft genoeg (zeker naar de overheid van Irak) geen enkel bewijs overgeleverd waaruit blijkt dat de Hezbollah militie verantwoordelijk was voor de raketaanval. Bovendien moet niet vergeten worden dat de VS ook met deze Iraanse militie heeft samengewerkt tegen IS, precies zoals het leger van de VS (dat in feite niets te zoeken heeft in het Midden-Oosten) samenwerkte met generaal Soleimani in het bestrijden van IS........

De Hezbollah militie is zelfs al sinds 2014 niet meer in de Iraakse provincie Kirkoek geweest, de provincie waar de raketaanval plaatsvond, terwijl IS daar nog kort tevoren aanvallen uitvoerde.... Voorts werden de raketten afgevuurd uit een gebied dat wordt beheerd door soennitische terreurgroepen.... Uitermate vreemd te moeten lezen dat de VS in november en december vorig jaar werd gewaarschuwd voor een IS aanval op luchtmachtbasis K-1, een Iraakse luchtmachtbasis die door de VS wordt gebruikt, maar daar blijkbaar niets mee heeft gedaan.

Kortom IS heeft de VS aangevallen en als gevolg daarvan was het bijna oorlog tussen Iran en de VS (dat overigens al jaren een fikse stok zoekt om Iran mee te slaan en wat dat betreft blijft de VS het Midden-Oosten destabiliseren, verder is het niet ondenkbaar dat Trump zal besluiten om Iran alsnog aan te vallen...... 

Vergeet niet dat alleen de sancties van de VS tegen Iran in feite al een oorlogsverklaring vormen aan het adres van het Iraanse volk, dat moet leiden onder de sancties zodat ze in opstand komen tegen het bewind, een tactiek die de VS al zo vaak eerder heeft gebruikt...... Benieuwd hoeveel slachtoffers deze smerige VS sancties tegen Iran al hebben gemaakt onder kinderen, chronisch patiënten en ouderen in dat land......

Als nu nog naar buiten komt dat de VS de luchtverdediging van het Iraanse leger heeft gestoorde tijdens het neerhalen van vlucht PS752, kan het zich weer op de borst kloppen voor een groot aantal extra doden (waaronder een flink aantal Iraniërs) op de meer dan 2,5 miljoen door de VS vermoorde mensen sinds 2001.....**

De VS, onbetwist verreweg de grootste terreurentiteit op onze kleine aarde........

(CD) — In a “bombshell” revelation that calls into question one of the Trump administration’s stated justificiations for assassinating Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani—a move that nearly sparked a region-wide military conflict—Iraqi intelligence officials told the New York Times that they believe ISIS, not an Iran-linked militia, was likely responsible for the Dec. 27 rocket attack that killed an American contractor at an air base near Kirkuk, Iraq.

The Times reported Thursday that “Iraqi military and intelligence officials have raised doubts about who fired the rockets… saying they believe it is unlikely that the militia the United States blamed for the attack” was responsible.

“All the indications are that it was Daesh,” Brigadier General Ahmed Adnan, the Iraqi chief of intelligence for the federal police at the K-1 air base, told the Times, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS. “We know Daesh’s movements.”

The Trump administration has not released a single piece of evidence showing that the Iraqi militia Khataib Hezbollah, which has ties to Iran, was responsible for the attack on K-1. The group has denied carrying out the attack.

The U.S. responded to the rocket attack days later with deadly airstrikes on Khataib Hezbollah targets in Iraq and Syria, setting off a dangerous escalatory spiral that brought Iran and the U.S. to the brink of war.

On Jan. 2, the U.S. assassinated Soleimani with a drone strike in Baghdad ordered by President Donald Trump. Following the assassination, which was widely condemned as an act of war, the U.S. Department of Defense issued a statement claiming without evidence that Soleimani “orchestrated attacks on coalition bases in Iraq over the last several months—including the attack on December 27th—culminating in the death and wounding of additional American and Iraqi personnel.”

But Iraqi officials told the Times that “based on circumstantial evidence and long experience in the area where the attack took place,” there is good reason to be skeptical about U.S. claims that Khataib Hezbollah was behind it.
As the Times reported:

The rockets were launched from a Sunni Muslim part of Kirkuk Province notorious for attacks by the Islamic State, a Sunni terrorist group, which would have made the area hostile territory for a Shiite militia like Khataib Hezbollah.

Khataib Hezbollah has not had a presence in Kirkuk Province since 2014.

The Islamic State, however, had carried out three attacks relatively close to the base in the 10 days before the attack on K-1. Iraqi intelligence officials sent reports to the Americans in November and December warning that ISIS intended to target K-1, an Iraqi air base in Kirkuk Province that is also used by American forces…

These facts all point to the Islamic State, Iraqi officials say.

“We as Iraqi forces cannot even come to this area unless we have a large force because it is not secure,” Brig. Gen. Adnan said of the area from which the rocket attack was launched. “How could it be that someone who doesn’t know the area could come here and find that firing position and launch an attack?”
In response to the Times report, Jamal Abdi, president of the National Iranian American Council, tweeted: “Al-Qaeda attacked the U.S. on 9/11 and we went to war with Iraq. If this report is true, ISIS attacked the U.S. and we nearly went to war with Iran.”

U.S. officials insisted to the Times that they have “solid evidence” showing that Khataib Hezbollah carried out the attack, but they have not released any of this evidence to the public or to Iraqi officials.

“We have requested the American side to share with us any information, any evidence, but they have not sent us any information,” Lt. Gen. Muhammad al-Bayati, chief of staff for former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, told the Times.

Ilan Goldenberg, Middle East security director at the Center for a New American Security think tank, tweeted that the U.S. Congress “must ask questions about this and get the intel.”
Responsible Statecraft managing editor Benjamin Armbruster agreed.
“Congress needs to investigate ASAP,” Armbruster tweeted.
