US Export-Import Bank financiert een grote levensbedreigende kolencentrale in India

De VS en Australië zijn wereldwijd de grootste kolenexporteurs, al jaren lang dumpen ze steenkool op de wereldmarkt tegen afbraakprijzen, vandaar ook de totaal onverantwoorde beslissing van kabinet Balkenende 4 (CDA en PvdA >> inclusief de vals groene milieu goeroe Timmermans) voor de nieuwbouw van 4 kolencentrales en het stilleggen van de Nederlands gascentrales......

Keer op keer blijkt dat de VS zich ook bemoeit met de bouw van kolencentrales in arme landen, zoals een grote kolencentrale in Sundarbans een natuurgebied in Bangladesh en India, e.e.a. met toestemming van de 'groene vredesduif' Obama.....(het gebied aan de rand van de Sundarbans waar deze centrale staat is grondgebied van Bangladesh)

 

 

Nu blijkt dat de US Export-Import Bank (USEIB*) een heel smerige kolencentrale financiert in India..... Een eerdere ramp veroorzaakt door die centrale was oorzaak voor het overlijden van 6 mensen die in de buurt van die centrale woonden.....

Sierra Club is een petitie gestart met het doel deze bank te bewegen te stoppen met de financiering deze gevaarlijke centrale.... Helaas kunnen wij niet tekenen, echter het gegeven is ernstig genoeg om de petitie over te nemen, zo blijkt nogmaals dat de VS niet alleen mensen in massa's vermoordt middels haar grootschalige terreur in diverse buitenlanden, maar ook nog eens zorgt voor de dood van velen en het vernietigen van natuur door het bouwen van het soort centrales als hierboven beschreven.....

Uiteraard zorgen die kolencentrales ook voor het verder aanjagen van de klimaatverandering....

Ten overvloede het bewijs dat de VS verreweg de grootste terreurentiteit is op ons aller huis de aarde........

Stop your tax dollars from funding a deadly power plant in India.

Tell the U.S. Export-Import Bank to terminate its involvement with a deadly Indian coal plant and to seek justice for those who died in a recent coal ash disaster.

As our country continues to grapple with police brutality and structural racism, recent events in India remind me that corporate polluters and those that fund them often show a similar disregard for human life that knows no borders.

An ash pond at the Sasan coal plant burst in April, creating a massive flood of coal ash that led to the deaths of six people in the remote district of Singrauli, India.¹ Despite calls for justice from local activists, these deaths have gone largely unnoticed in India and abroad. Months after the initial burst, ash continues to pollute water and community land.

Even less scrutiny is being given to the role that the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) plays in enabling the continued operation of this deadly plant.² In 2010 EXIM provided Reliance Power $917 million in long-term financing to construct and operate the plant, supporting exports of mining equipment from U.S. corporations.

Take Action: Tell EXIM to terminate its involvement with Reliance Power and the Sasan coal plant and mine and to hold Reliance accountable for the deaths, including paying reparations to the families of those lost.

EXIM has been repeatedly notified about the negligence at the plant and the destruction it has wrought on the local community, villagers, and habitat.

Back in 2015, the Inspector General of EXIM issued a report revealing a stunning 19 fatalities at the facility.³ This followed a 2014 report from Sierra Club and NGOs that revealed forced resettlements, occupied houses being bulldozed in the middle of the night, labor abuses including employees handling hazardous materials without protection, and rampant environmental contamination of the local community.⁴ Since the 2015 report, monitoring reports have revealed an additional eight deaths at Sasan, but the actual death count is probably even higher.

EXIM has done little to address the consistent abuses at the plant and its ongoing investment and involvement in the project makes it complicit in the recent disaster and any that may occur moving forward.

Tell EXIM: Enough is enough! Cut ties with the deadly Sasan coal plant and its negligent operator, Reliance Power.

Thank you for demanding justice for those whose lives have been impacted in India and demanding our tax dollars not be used to fund these continued abuses.

The COVID-19 crisis has not passed and continues to disproportionately harm  Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people and other communities of color. The pandemic has revealed how the communities hardest hit are often the same communities that suffer from high levels of pollution and poor access to healthcare. The fight for environmental justice cannot be separated from the fight for racial justice.
