Green New Deal, ofwel linkse tak van de Democraten niet verantwoordelijk voor mager resultaat dat de partij boekte (bij de verkiezingen) voor het Congres

De Democraten hebben weliswaar de presidentsverkiezingen gewonnen, maar ondanks een keer zo hoog budget voor die verkiezingen dan de Republikeinen, hebben ze geen extra senaatszetels gehaald en daardoor zelfs zetels verloren in het huis van afgevaardigden....... Kortom je zou kunnen stellen dat Biden als nieuwe president bitter weinig voor elkaar zal krijgen.......

Binnen de Democratische Partij wijst men met de vingers naar de links kant van die partij als schuldigen voor dit negatieve resultaat in het congres...... Linkse Democratische politici die o.a. achter de Green New Deal staan, hebben het wel degelijk goed gedaan tijdens de verkiezingen, ofwel de conservatieve tak van de Democraten wijst volkomen onterecht naar de progressieve krachten in de partij als schuldigen voor dit verlies aan macht in het congres..... 

Als die conservatieve Democratische tak van de partij zo doorgaat bestaat de kans dat de partij zal worden gespleten en er een nieuwe wat meer linkse Democratische Partij zal ontstaan. Gezien het resultaat van die progressieve, meer linkse tak zou die wel eens de oude Democratische Partij kunnen overvleugelen en dat zou een hele verademing zijn, daar er nog amper verschil bestaat tussen de Democratische en Republikeinse Partij, wat voor de wereld betekent dat Biden door zal gaan op het illegale oorlogspad en dat wellicht op een heel wat fanatiekere manier dan de Trump administratie.......

99% of Green New Deal Co-Sponsors Won Their Races This Cycle: Analysis

"Saying progressive policies held Democrats back from expanding their House majority/taking the Senate just doesn't hold water with data available so far."

Shedding more light on a significant electoral trend that progressives have drawn attention to in the aftermath of the 2020 U.S. election, a new analysis by Earther found that of the 93 House co-sponsors of the Green New Deal resolution who ran for reelection this year, only one lost their congressional race. 

"Simply put," wrote journalist Brian Kahn in Earther, "the Green New Deal is not a political loser," including for representatives in swing districts.

Kahn identified four House co-sponsors who represent districts that "range from very slightly Democratic to moderately Republican," according to Cook Political Report's Partisan Voting Index. 

Of those four, three—Reps. Mike Levin (D-Calif.), Jahana Hayes (D- Conn.), and Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.)—have already "decisively won their reelection bids," while the fourth, Rep. Tom Suozzi (D- N.Y.), is projected to win handily "once all mail-in ballots are counted."

"This quick-and-dirty analysis," Kahn said, "aligns with other data showing that representatives who have sponsored and voted for progressive policies were not punished by voters."

As Common Dreams reported this weekend, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and others pointed out that every single congressional member who ran for reelection this year as a supporter of Medicare for All won their race. 

Ocasio-Cortez hinted that her team would be "running numbers" on the Green New Deal—of which she is the lead House sponsor—next. As Earther's analysis showed, the reelection rate for representatives who co-sponsored the Green New Deal resolution was nearly 100% as well, with 92 out of those 93 congressional members retaining their seat.  

"Saying progressive policies held Democrats back from expanding their House majority/taking the Senate just doesn't hold water with data available so far," Kahn noted on Twitter.

As Common Dreams reported last week, the blame game within the Democratic Party began immediately in the wake of its lackluster showing in down-ticket contests, with officials from the right and left flanks of the party pointing fingers at each other. 

The New York Times allowed Ocasio-Cortez to make the evidence-backed case for the positive role played by the left in the 2020 election, but for the most part, corporate media outlets over the weekend did their best to cement the right-wing narrative that progressive policy ideas are to blame for the party's underwhelming performance in down-ballot races.

So-called moderate Republicans like former Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, as well as moderate Democrats like South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn, were given airtime on CNN to falsely claim Americans don't back egalitarian policy proposals.

These assaults continue despite recent polling, including surveys commissioned by Fox News, that indicates the majoritarian popularity of left-wing policy ideas eschewed by Democrats and Republicans alike, including an expanded role for the government in the provision of healthcare and the creation of green jobs in energy and infrastructure. 

In Georgia, for instance, where Democrats have a chance to secure a Senate majority if they win both runoff races, voters prefer a universal public option to the Affordable Care Act. 

Since voting ended last week, however, numerous corporate-friendly politicians have advocated for shifting the nation's political center of gravity rightward, despite the fact that politicians who supported popular redistributive policies, such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, were reelected at higher rates than ostensibly centrist Democrats, including in swing districts. 

"The people who actually back progressive policies came through the election largely unscathed and, in many cases, fared better than their more conservative Democratic counterparts in swing districts," Kahn wrote.

"For all the complaining about progressive policies sinking Democrats' chances of expanding their hold on the House and overtaking the Senate," he added, "the data available so far just is not there."

John Nichols, The Nation's national affairs correspondent and author of The "S" Word: A Short History of An American Tradition... Socialism, tweeted that "the Democratic Party's problem is not Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez."

The economic crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic has given immense power to central banks, which have spent hundreds of billions to keep the world economy afloat. The European Central Bank (ECB) alone approved a €750 billion stimulus program in March, followed by an additional €600 billion in June.

We now have an opportunity to tell the ECB that people around the world expect action, not just words. The ECB has launched an online consultation process seeking opinions as they revise their new strategy. Allies at Reclaim Finance, SumOfUs, and 350 have developed an online survey to allow you to participate easily in this process.

Fill out this online survey and it will be sent directly to the head of the European Central Bank.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, European leaders have pledged to make the recovery green and to focus efforts and resources on climate-friendly solutions. However, the ECB continues to operate as if the climate crisis did not exist. Since the beginning of the crisis, it has already handed at least €7 billion to fossil fuel companies, supported corporations active in coal, oil, and gas, and resisted calls from the public to integrate strict climate safeguards in its policies.

Christine Lagarde, the President of the ECB, recently committed to “explore every avenue” to fight climate change. As governments around the world continue to massively support the fossil fuel industry through stimulus packages, despite the industry’s abysmal climate, human rights, and financial track record, the European Central Bank has a responsibility to lead by example and to put its money where its mouth is.

It’s crucial that the ECB hears from as many concerned individuals as possible. If we can push them to integrate strict climate considerations in their policies, other central banks are likely to follow suit. As the climate crisis intensifies, it is more urgent than ever to deprive the fossil fuel industry of the oxygen it runs on: cheap public money.

Coronavirus: Bruno Bruins (minister Medische Zorg): geen reden om grote evenementen te verbieden

Zijne VVD leeghoofdigheid Bruno Bruins, godbetert minister Medische Zorg en Sport zei afgelopen vrijdag dat het niet nodig is om grote evenementen af te gelasten als maatregel om de verspreiding van het Coronavirus tegen te gaan...... Eerder zei deze prutser dat de kans bijzonder klein is dat het virus Nederland zal bereiken...... Het leven moet gewoon doorgaan aldus Bruins...... Overigens zijn woorden horend kan je niet anders dan de conclusie trekken dat Bruins ook boodschappen doen als evenement ziet.... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! 

Ook carnaval zou geen probleem zijn geweest voor verdere besmetting, aldus Bruins, daar het eerste geval van besmetting in ons land, een man is die aan het carnaval mee heeft gedaan, maar niet besmettelijk zou zijn geweest tijdens diens aanwezigheid op dat feest ter ere van de dodelijkste harddrug in ons land, t.w. alcohol..... Deze man meldde zich een dag na het carnaval in het ziekenhuis, het lijkt me dan ook niet verstandig te stellen dat hij het virus niet over heeft kunnen brengen (zeker als je ziet dat mensen die dronken zijn, met veel mensen om zich heen, echt niet doorhebben dat ze bijvoorbeeld koorts hebben)...... In Duitsland heeft het carnaval zeker extra besmettingen veroorzaakt, zo geven de autoriteiten daar toe.... Ook in Limburg denkt men anders over het Coronavirus dan Bruins doet, daar heeft men afgelopen zaterdag dan ook twee evenementen afgelast die veel mensen trekken.

Bruno Bruins, ach als wethouder al een ramp en zijn functioneren in de landelijke politiek is daarvan een voortzetting..... Trouwens een rare combinatie zijn ministerschap, deels op Medische Zorg en Sport, het is dan ook niet in het belang van sport om evenementen af te gelasten vanwege het Coronavirus (al zal men daar natuurlijk heel anders over denken als ten gevolge van dit soort evenementen mensen overlijden.......)

In Standpunt NL was dezelfde afgelopen vrijdag de Belgische 'geluksprofessor' Leo Bormans te horen, deze liet weten dat het belangrijk is dat we goed omgaan met Corona.... Dit is zo ongeveer hetzelfde als een wijd openstaande deur van 3 meter breed intrappen, allemachtig wat een kwezel!! En nogmaals: dat net na het carnaval........

John Sellers  van 'The Other 98%' liet op dezelfde vrijdag weten dat Mike Pence door Trump is aangesteld als coördinator voor het bestrijden van het Coronavirus...... Pence gelooft niet in de wetenschap en was gouverneur van Indiana toen de HIV-crisis op het hoogtepunt was, waar hij de meer dan misdadige beslissing nam fiks te snijden in de budgetten voor de gezondheidszorg...... Nee, echt een te gek idee om Pence dan nu aan te stellen als de hoogste autoriteit die over de bestrijding van het Coronavirus gaat.....

CET) dat de bevolking van de VS niet ongerust hoeft te zijn; Pence vervolgde met te zeggen: "We doen alles om verdere verspreiding van het virus te voorkomen....." ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Nee, echt een hele geruststelling als je ziet wat deze ploert in het verleden heeft geflikt en zelfs als moordenaar kan worden aangemerkt, daar door zijn snijden in de budgetten voor gezondheidszorg een fiks aantal met HIV besmette mensen moet zijn overleden aan AIDS......

In hetzelfde BBC nieuws het bericht dat er in de staat Washington minstens al 1.500 mensen moeten zijn besmet en dat de eerste gevallen van besmetting al dateren van 6 weken geleden. De autoriteiten zouden deze gegevens hebben achtergehouden voor de bevolking (en dan durft het westen China de les te lezen over de omgang met het Coronavirus....)....

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez grilt Zuckerberg over misleidende advertenties op Facebook: liegen in verkiezingstijd is toegestaan

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), een politicus van de Democratische Partij, die als vertegenwoordiger van het 14de kiesdistrict van New York fungeert in de federale politiek, had Mark Zuckerberg onlangs bij de ballen........(jakkes!!).

Zuckerbergs Facebook heeft al een fiks aantal accounts geblokkeerd of zelfs verwijdert, daar men fake news (nepnieuws) dan wel andere desinformatie zou hebben gebracht of nog brengt en als dat ook nog eens de verkiezingen zou beïnvloeden, 'vliegt het dak van het Facebookpand', zie wat Zuckerberg eerder in een hoorzitting wist te vertellen n.a.v. Russiagate*.

Alsof Zuckerberg knettergek is heeft deze onlangs gezegd dat politici mogen liegen en doen in advertenties voor de verkiezingen van 2020 en daarna..... AOC bracht dit te berde en probeerde uit te vinden tot hoever je dan kan gaan. Ze gaf als voorbeeld een advertentie waarmee zwarte kiezers op het verkeerde been kunnen worden gezet door over de datum van de verkiezingen te liegen...

Dat scenario is verboden aldus Zuckerberg, daar je van Facebook niet het stemrecht mag belemmeren. AOC vervolgde met de vraag of je dan wel in een advertentie mag zeggen dat een aantal Republikeinse politici voor The Green Deal hebben gestemd. Ze verduidelijkte e.e.a. door te stellen dat Facebook politieke advertenties niet zal checken op de feiten (fact checking) en ook daarbij wilde AOC weten tot hoever ze kan gaan. Je gelooft je ogen niet: Zuckerberg antwoordde dat hij dit niet weet..... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Zuckerberg gaf even later toch nog antwoord door te zeggen dat het waarschijnlijk wel mag....... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Zuckerberg zei nog wel dat liegen eigenlijk niet mag en niet netjes is, alsof de politiek en zeker die in de VS de meest 'ethische en normenvaste politiek' is van de wereld..... Het is daar zo'n leugenachtig zootje dat ik keer op keer verbaasd ben dat men nog steeds achter de VS aanloopt, het is gvd algemeen bekend dat er meer wordt gelogen in Washington (en niet alleen op Capitol Hill, maar bijvoorbeeld ook in het Pentagon en niet te vergeten alle leugens geventileerd door de vele geheime diensten) dan dat men de waarheid spreekt.....

Elizabeth Warren heeft e.e.a. uitgeprobeerd en een advertentie op Facebook laten plaatsen waaruit zou blijken dat Zuckerberg persoonlijk de herverkiezing van Trump steunt. Dit is niet bekend dus een leugen, toch werd de advertentie geplaatst (nu vraag ik me af of Zuckerberg toch al niet zijn steun voor Trumps herverkiezing heeft uitgesproken.....)

Eén ding is zeker, ondanks alle gezeik over Russiagate is het meer dan duidelijk dat je wel degelijk de kiezers kunt beïnvloeden op Facebook, als je maar betaalt voor de leugens!! Fake news (nepnieuws) bestaat ook uit leugens, zie de berichtgeving in de reguliere (massa-) media, voorafgaand en tijdens de illegale oorlogen van de VS (propaganda) en dat mag dan weer niet..... uh, oh ja dat mag ook!! Het gaat eigenlijk om de waarheid >> immers als de sociale media de waarheid vertellen en die is in tegenspraak met wat de reguliere media je aan leugens serveren, wordt de waarheid als fake news of desinformatie neergezet door Facebook, Twitter, YouTube en een groot aantal van de reguliere mediaorganen, als dat gebeurt loopt die waarheid een grote kans om weggecensureerd te worden (door simpelweg accounts te blokkeren, of informatie van het net te halen, dan wel accounts geheel op te zeggen..)..... Ongelofelijk!!!

AOC Grills Facebook CEO Over Lies in Political Ads

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been under fire of late for allowing politicians to put outright lies in ads on the platform, and Capitol Hill lawmakers took their turn to grill the social media site founder on Wednesday.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., reportedly went after Zuckerberg in an attempt to force him to answer why Facebook’s team can fact check certain things but not political ads in an attempt to crack down on election interference.

Ocasio-Cortez presented a scenario where an ad targeting black voters could offer up the wrong election date to try and trick them.

“You announced recently that the official policy of Facebook now allows politicians to pay to spread disinformation in 2020 elections and in the future,” she said. “So I just want to know how far I can push this in the next year.”

Zuckerberg then said such a scenario isn’t allowed because of a Facebook rule banning voter suppression.

“So there is some threshold where you will fact-check political advertisements. Is that what you’re telling me?” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Would I be able to run advertisements on Facebook targeting Republicans in primaries saying that they voted for the Green New Deal? I mean, if you’re not fact-checking political advertisements, I’m just trying to understand the bounds here, what’s fair game.”

Zuckerberg said he didn’t “know the answer to that off the top of my head.”

“You don’t know if I’ll be able to do that,” she asked.

“I think probably,” Zuckerberg replied.

“Do you see a potential problem here with a complete lack of fact checking on political advertisements?” she asked.

“Well, Congresswoman, I think lying is bad, and I think if you were to run an ad that had a lie in it, that would be bad,” he answered, “That’s different from it being in our position, the right thing to do to prevent your constituents or people in an election from seeing that you had lied.”

“So you won’t take down lies, or you will take down lies?” she said. “I think this is a pretty simple yes or no.”

“It depends on the context that it shows up,” Zuckerberg answered.

Facebook has come under fire a lot recently regarding the political ads and its use of private user data and the security of that data.

Democratic primary hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s campaign ran an ad directly targeting Facebook with a lie — that Zuckerberg had personally endorsed President Donald Trump’s reelection — to see if it could pass the fact checkers, which it did.

“You’re probably shocked,” that ad said. “And you might be thinking, ‘how could this possibly be true?’ Well, it’s not.”

Warren said she ran the ad to “see just how far” the company’s policy goes.

“We intentionally made a Facebook ad with false claims and submitted it to Facebook’s ad platform to see if it’d be approved,” she tweeted. “It got approved quickly.”

Facebook’s stock has been left largely unharmed by the recent controversies, with shares down about 2.7%, or $5.10 a share, over the past week. Shares are still up just over 20% for the year at $185.22.

De VS moet stoppen met het demoniseren van vluchtelingen en de noodtoestand uitroepen over de klimaatverandering

In plaats van vluchtelingen te demoniseren, die NB op de vlucht zijn geslagen door VS bemoeienissen met Latijns-America, zou de regering van de VS de noodtoestand moeten afroepen over de klimaatverandering!

De democratische politici Earl Blumenauer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez en Bernie Sanders wijzen de Trump administratie op de vreselijke gevolgen van de klimaatverandering, gevolgen waar de VS nu al mee te maken heeft, gezien de steeds vaker optredende bosbranden en de steeds heviger en vaker optredende verwoestende orkanen. Niet vreemd dus dat de voornoemde politici aan de bel trekken, waar zij stellen dat Trump de vluchtelingen die de VS willen bereiken, wel heeft uitgeroepen tot noodtoestand (waarbij hij hen afschildert als misdadigers...) en de ogen sluit voor de klimaatramp die zich voor zijn ogen (en de rest van zijn administratie) voltrekt. 

Uiteraard is het afroepen van de noodtoestand over vluchtelingenstromen door Trump te belachelijk voor woorden*, waar Trump en zijn administratie keer op keer durven te stellen dat de klimaatverandering een leugen is van linkse krachten..... Dit terwijl zoals gezegd de gevolgen van de klimaatverandering al velen in de VS in diepe ellende hebben gestort en deze verhevigde natuurrampen het volk van de VS al honderden miljarden dollars aan belastinggeld hebben gekost.....

De VS wordt in feite deels bestuurd door het bedrijfsleven, inclusief de oliemaffia, waar de grote bedrijven op z'n zachtst gezegd grote moeite hebben met maatregelen die de klimaatverandering nog enigszins kunnen afremmen, daar hun winsten daar onder zullen leiden en zelfs zouden kunnen leiden tot het sluiten van hele bedrijfstakken die niet anders doen dan de klimaatverandering aanjagen.......

The US Government Should Declare Climate Emergency

The havoc that will soon be wrought by climate change is unfathomable. It's a crisis — one which Reps. Earl Blumenauer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Sen. Bernie Sanders demanded yesterday the US government recognize. It's a needed step towards winning a Green New Deal.

To justify his administration’s barbaric actions at the Southern border, Donald Trump is using the language of crisis. In May 2019, a scaremongering statement from the White House declared that the United States “has been invaded by hundreds of thousands of people coming through Mexico.” This “sustained influx of illegal aliens” is “overwhelming our schools, overcrowding our hospitals, draining our welfare system, and causing untold amounts of crime,” the administration said.

This, of course, is bullshit.

The United States is currently seeing a net outflow of undocumented immigrants. And even if we weren’t, these people have a right to migrate in order to create a life free from wanton violence and economic devastation — chaos largely created by the United States.

Immigrants do not “overwhelm” us; they are us, and their presence in this country does not constitute a crisis. Their abuse at the hands of our government, however, absolutely does.

The Trump administration recently invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to justify its inhumane treatment of immigrants on US soil. This struck Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon as unjustifiably hypocritical. What if we used the language of crisis to instead describe an actual mass emergency: the looming threat of climate disaster, which the Trump administration categorically neglects and which, unlike the presence of undocumented immigrants, requires drastic and immediate political action in order to ensure public safety?

Blumenauer has teamed up with Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to propose legislation declaring global warming a national and international emergency.

The resolution was submitted to the House of Representatives on Tuesday. In order to address the crisis at hand, it calls for “a national, social, industrial, and economic mobilization of the resources and labor of the United States at a massive-scale to halt, reverse, mitigate, and prepare for the consequences of the climate emergency and to restore the climate for future generations.”

The legislation may have been inspired by Trump’s duplicity, but the idea did not spring fully formed from Blumenauer’s mind. It is a response to climate activists, who have been increasingly demanding that national, state, and local governments around the world declare the climate crisis an emergency.

In April, the new group Extinction Rebellion occupied central London for ten days. “The science is clear: It is understood that we are facing an unprecedented global emergency,” says the group. “We are in a life or death situation of our own making. We must act now.” Extinction Rebellion’s first demand is that governments “must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.”

Declarations of emergency are also the most urgent demand of The Climate Mobilization, a US-based climate activist group waging a campaign to pressure governments to sign on. The group states that “declaring Climate Emergency is the critical first step to launching the comprehensive mobilization solution required to rescue and rebuild civilization.”

In response to the Extinction Rebellion protests, the United Kingdom House of Commons declared emergency in May. Similar declarations around the world are pouring in. To date, climate emergency has been declared by 740 jurisdictions globally, one of which is New York City, which declared emergency in June. Los Angeles appears set to follow suit. The joint resolution proposed by Blumenauer, Ocasio-Cortez, and Sanders would make the United States the seventeenth and largest nation to heed the crisis declaration call from climate activists.

It remains to be seen whether the US federal climate emergency resolution has the support needed to pass into law. The United States government sustains intimate ties with the fossil fuel industry, ties that have so far prevented political representatives from touching anything that opens the door, as this resolution does, to a national mobilization to cease fossil fuel extraction and transition to a zero-emissions economy. Even though the resolution is nonbinding, it clearly gestures toward the implementation of a Green New Deal (GND) which, as envisioned by Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders, would spell the end of the fossil fuel era.

There’s another reason legislators may be hesitant, despite clear evidence that we are indeed facing a climate emergency, to vote for a bill that paves the way for a Green New Deal. The GND isn’t just about saving the planet: it’s about doing so in a way that builds the power of working people and erodes inequality, on the basis that the current capitalist system brought us to the brink of destruction to begin with.

To this end, the GND would create millions of green jobs, and insists that they come with “a family-sustaining wage, adequate family and medical leave, paid vacations, and retirement security to all people of the United States.”

American politicians aren’t just beholden to the fossil fuel industry; they’re beholden to the capitalist class writ large. Reducing unemployment and building worker power — including providing universal healthcare, education, and housing, also outlined in the GND — makes exploitation harder, which means profits for the few will sink even as living standards for the many improve. There’s no doubt that the GND will face tremendous pushback in the halls of power, and that pushback may begin with shooting down this declaration.

The best shot we have at muscling this bill through is to raise hell in the streets. It’s sound politics: when the people in power don’t want to budge, the majority must create pressure from the outside to force their hand. It’s no easy task. But if people fight hard enough, we might be able to get the United States — the biggest carbon polluter in world history — to formally acknowledge the real crisis at hand.
