Coronacrisis: Australische militairen moeten de straten en huizen van o.a. moslims in Sydney controleren

Het Australische leger, bekend van hun oorlogsmisdaden in Afghanistan, gaan de arme buitenwijken van Sydney controleren i.v.m. alweer meer dan belachelijk strenge Coronamaatregelen die de Australische regering heeft genomen.....* Het leger moet de buitenwijken controleren waar met name veel moslims wonen, alsof het leger terug is in Afghanistan........

Caitlin Johnstone heeft een artikel geschreven over deze zaak waarin ze de Australische regering terecht verwijt smerige politiek te voeren waarbij de bevolking wordt voorgelogen en gemanipuleerd, terwijl diezelfde regering zich als Joe Biden druk maakt over een groot aantal mensen die hun regering niet meer vertrouwen en een vaccinatie tegen COVID-19 weigeren, mensen die men aanduidt als anti-vaxxers en complotdenkers, terwijl deze mensen ten eerste volkomen terecht hun regering niet meer vertrouwen en ten tweede bestaat een groot deel van de mensen die zich niet willen laten vaccineren tegen COVID-19 niet uit anti-vaxxers, maar uit mensen die hun hersens gebruiken, daaronder bevinden zich artsen, microbiologen, virologen en verpleegkundigen .....

Volkomen terecht stelt Caitlin dat niet deze mensen verantwoordelijk zijn voor hun wantrouwen als het om hun regering gaat, maar is het juist de regering die verantwoordelijk is voor het gekweekte wantrouwen onder een groot deel van de bevolking..... 

Ook deze zaak geeft aan dat regeringen meer en meer wijzen naar niet gevaccineerden als de oorzaak van oplopende 'besmettingen' (lees: met de waardeloze PCR test positief geteste personen en dat is heel wat anders dan besmette personen**)...... Steeds vaker hoor je dat regeringen een vaccinatieplicht willen instellen, de reguliere radiostations van meerdere landen hebben in hun inbelprogramma's stemming gemaakt tegen niet gevaccineerden en uiteraard zijn de reacties onder het Coronacomateuze volk meestal ronduit agressief, immers de meesten van hen hebben zich al laten vaccineren en willen verder geen kritiek meer horen op deze vaccinaties..... Ofwel: men schreeuwt om dwingende maatregelen als niet gevaccineerden uitsluiten van openbare gelegenheden zoals winkels, horeca, musea, enz. enz... 

Schoft Macron, de president van Frankrijk, heeft ultimatums gesteld aan mensen die zich niet hebben laten vaccineren, waarbij hij verplegend personeel zelfs heeft gedreigd met ontslag en het niet ontvangen van een uitkering als zij worden ontslagen vanwege die weigering...... Eén en ander gaat zelfs in tegen EU wetgeving, zo heeft men in Brussel geconstateerd, verplichting tot vaccineren mag niet en dreigen met ontslag is al helemaal verboden...... VS opperploert en oorlogsmisdadiger Joe Biden, heeft in de VS hetzelfde geopperd........ De rechter in de VS heeft intussen goedgekeurd dat werknemers verplicht mogen worden zich te laten vaccineren....... Dit soort dwang hoort thuis in een fascistisch geregeerd land, al kan je stellen dat dit in de VS in veel gevallen al lang het geval is en bepaald niet alleen onder Biden, Trump en Obama!!

Het meest lullige is wel dat nu ook gevaccineerden wordt voorgehouden dat zij zich aan de Coronamaatregelen moeten houden, daar blijkt dat zij wel degelijk besmet kunnen raken met het virus en dit makkelijk kunnen doorgeven aan anderen...... Kortom het maakt niet eens uit of je wel dan niet bent gevaccineerd...... Daarnaast is het sprookje allang doorgerpikt als zouden niet gevaccineerden zorgen voor mutaties van het virus, juist vaccinaties zorgen voor mutaties, en dat is logisch immers het vaccin probeert andere manieren te vinden om gevaccineerden te besmetten en dat lukt aardig, zo heeft de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël besloten dat mensen van boven de 60 jaar zullen worden gevaccineerd met een derde injectie.......

De hoogste tijd dus dat regeringen stoppen met het demoniseren van niet gevaccineerden en eindelijk open kaart spelen over de werkelijke cijfers, want ook daarmee wordt schandalig gemanipuleerd, neem alleen al de overlijdens die men heeft toegeschreven aan COVID-19, terwijl deze mensen niet eens werden getest op het werkelijk aanwezig zijn van het virus en dat kan alleen middels een bloedonderzoek, de PCR test is zoals gezegd meer dan waardeloos**. Voorts is meer transparantie gewenst over de bijwerkingen van de Coronavaccins en het aantal mensen dat overleed na een vaccinatie >> stop met de dooddoener dat deze mensen onderliggende klachten hadden, als dat zo is hadden deze mensen niet gevaccineerd mogen worden..... Dit waardeloze excuus zou alleen mogen worden gebruikt als mensen verborgen onderliggende klachten hadden......

So there are going to be soldiers policing Australia's streets.

In what was already being called the harshest pandemic restrictions in Australia, New South Wales police have requested 300 Australian Defense Force troops to help enforce lockdown rules in eight local government areas in the suburbs of Western Sydney.

"The personnel will deploy on Friday, Defence Minister Peter Dutton said, and will begin assisting police with ensuring compliance with restrictions next week," Reuters reports.

"Army troops will door-knock homes of people who have tested positive to COVID-19 and those deemed to be close contacts to ensure they are isolating in a crackdown on Sydney hotspots after NSW reached a record number of new infections," the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

This would be the same ADF*** which has been committing horrific war crimes in Afghanistan, by the way. These are the wonderful people who will be going door to door through Sydney's poorest and least-white neighborhoods "ensuring compliance with restrictions".

I haven't felt comfortable writing about many aspects of the worldwide government responses to Covid-19 for a number of reasons, but it doesn't take a scientific genius to understand that once you've got a war criminal military force patrolling the streets of your country, things have gone too far. With the US president toying with the idea of nationwide vaccine mandates and protests erupting in France over vaccine passport policies, things are clearly heating up around the world.

This is coming as more and more aggressively manufactured stigma is directed at unvaccinated people and "conspiracy theorists", up to and including widespread support for banning vaccine skeptics from social media at the US government's direction. The way unvaccinated people and conspiracy theorists are being increasingly blamed for society's problems is beginning to look a lot like the liberal version of blaming poor people and immigrants for society's problems, which is very convenient for the powerful people who are actually responsible for society's problems.

It's outrageous how we all know our governments and institutions lie to us all the time about important things, yet when people are distrustful of those institutions they get treated like they belong in a straight jacket. I mean sure, this distrust sometimes manifests in ways that are not well-informed or truth-based, but expecting all rank-and-file members of the public who work full time to have a perfectly erudite understanding of every situation is absurd. The distrust is reasonable, and it's not their fault.

If people distrust their government and institutions, the blame rests exclusively on the shoulders of the government and institutions who created that distrust in the first place. You can't create distrust and then act like people are crazy for distrusting you. That's not a thing.

If those in power weren't lying and propagandizing all the time and concealing what they are doing behind thick walls of government secrecy, distrust would never be an issue. The issue of "trust" would never come up at all, because there'd be no need for it: people would just be shown what's happening in a straightforward and honest way, as should happen with any power structure, and the people would conduct themselves accordingly.

Instead we're getting increasingly authoritarian measures slammed down upon us for being insufficiently obedient, up to and including soldiers patrolling our streets. This is very concerning, and we should all pay close attention.

Zo wil AKK Duitse militairen op het door Turkije illegaal bezette Syrische grondgebied om daar 'de vrede te bewaken......' (ha! ha! ha!) Kortom AKK heeft lak aan het feit dat Turkije illegaal Syrië is binnengevallen en daar grondgebied bezet houdt, sterker nog met haar pleidooi legitimeert ze de Turkse agressie, waarvoor de reli-fascistische psychopaat Erdogan de hoofdverantwoordelijke is.........

Duitsland is als Turkije NAVO-lid en als zodanig had ze de illegale Turkse inval in Syrië moeten veroordelen, i.p.v. deze te legitimeren.......

AKK ziet de NAVO als een organisatie die de wereld over moet opereren, waarbij ze het blijkbaar voor lief neemt dat de VS in feite de grote baas is van de NAVO, sterker nog: AKK wil de VS agressie tegen China steunen en wil een Duits fregat in de Zuid-Chinese Zee (tegen 'Chinese agressie', Ap)...... Blijkbaar wil ze een wit voetje halen bij Trump in de hoop dat de VS soepeler omgaat met de Duitse auto-industrie en als Duitsland daarvoor een agressieve politiek moet voeren tegen China dan zij het zo......

Het voorgaande is ongelofelijk dom als je ziet hoeveel Duitse auto's er worden verkocht in China, een aantal dat zonder de door Trump begonnen handelsoorlog, nog veel groter zou zijn...... Het zou niet ondenkbaar zijn dat zonder de handelsoorlog de export van Duitse auto's naar China en de in China geproduceerde Duitse auto's, het aantal Duitse auto's dat in de VS wordt gefabriceerd, plus de import van die auto's in de VS, binnenkort zou hebben overtroffen. Kortom: AKK schoffeert China, waarmee ze de voor de Duitse toekomst steeds belangrijker wordende handelspartner China kan doen omzien naar een andere handelspartners (dan Duitsland...).....

AKK wil de NAVO politiseren en dat schijnt ook de bedoeling te zijn van Heiko Maas, de Duitse minister van BuZA (SPD)...... Voorts wil AKK het militaire apparaat meer integreren in de Duitse maatschappij en dat 74 jaar na het einde van WOII..... Zo wil AKK o.a. dat militairen die in hun uniform reizen dat gratis mogen doen in het openbaar vervoer...... (weet niet of AKK deze militairen ook bewapend rond wil laten lopen, het zou me niet verbazen van dit onzinnige fuifnummer.......) Heiko Maas wil voorts de NAVO hervormen, daar deze op sterven zou liggen, zoals gezegd wil hij de organisatie meer politiseren...... Alsof de NAVO al niet teveel (rechts) is gepolitiseerd en men in deze ronduit terroristische organisatie als vanouds geen probleem heeft met dictatoriaal geregeerde NAVO-lidstaten, zoals nu weer Turkije.....

Dan kom ik terug bij de vraag hoe het in godsnaam mogelijk is dat de NAVO niet aan de bel heeft getrokken toen Turkije illegaal de grens met Syrië overtrok...... Artikel 5 van deze terreurorganisatie zegt dat wanneer een NAVO-lid wordt aangevallen dit als een aanval op alle NAVO-lidstaten wordt gezien ('de 3 musketiers regel')...... Waarom heeft de NAVO geen bepaling voor agressieve lidstaten??? Simpel (en nogmaals): de VS is de grote baas en deze terreurentiteit wil militair en op andere manieren in kunnen grijpen, wanneer en waar het haar uitkomt..... Dat heeft de VS deze eeuw al minstens 6 keer laten zien, waarbij het officieel 4 illegale oorlogen is begonnen, zonder ook maar 1 NAVO-lid te consulteren...... (daarbij zijn intussen meer dan 2,5 miljoen mensen omgekomen, in feite vermoord in naam van de VS en meestal vermoord door de VS....) Achter gesloten deuren voert de VS de druk op zodat andere NAVO-lidstaten haar militair steunen bij haar illegale acties over de wereld, waarbij de VS openlijk keer op keer eist van de andere NAVO-lidstaten dat zij minstens zoveel uitgeven aan defensie, uh oorlogsvoering dan zij zelf doet..... Terwijl de VS de ene illegale oorlog na de andere begint en dat tegen gigantische kosten, waar dezelfde VS jaarlijks een enorm kapitaal kwijt is aan de meer dan 800 militaire bases die het buiten de VS heeft.......

De VS behandelt de EU-NAVO-lidstaten dan ook als zijnde de 51ste staat van haar imperium..... Niet voor niets dat de VS buiten de NAVO om een raketschild heeft geplaatst in Polen en Roemenië, zogenaamd tegen inkomende raketten uit Iran. De raketten van dit schild kunnen in een mum van tijd worden voorzien van kernkoppen en dan staan er dus kernraketten vlak voor de grens met Rusland, kernraketten die verboden waren volgens het INF-verdrag met Rusland..... Het was dan ook niet Rusland die dit verdrag schond, maar de VS zelf!! Intussen is de VS bezig om steeds meer manschappen naar Europa te zenden en de NAVO-lidstaten vol te proppen met wapens, munitie en ander oorlogstuig (zoals een paar honderd tanks in Limburg)

Conclusie: AKK, Maas en andere Duitse politici willen niet alleen Erdogan helpen met de illegale bezetting van Syrisch grondgebied, maar ze willen ook de VS helpen bij de grootschalige terreur die het her en der uitoefent en bij de gevaarlijke spelletjes die de VS uitvoert langs de grens met Rusland en de territoriale wateren van China..... Bovendien willen ze de NAVO nog meer als oorlogshond van de VS laten fungeren, waarbij niet vergeten moet worden dat het Duitse leger tot de grootste legers van de NAVO-lidstaten behoort.....

VS ontwikkelde wapen tegen demonstranten dat o.a. de huid op grote afstand aantast.....

Hoe godvergeten smerig en slecht moet je als wetenschapper zijn om een wapen te ontwikkelen dat in de hoogste stand uiterst pijnlijk de bovenlaag van de huid doet verdampen, dwars door kleding en zelfs leer heen, dit wapen wordt aangeduid als SCUPLS wat staat voor: Scalable Compact Ultra-short Pulse Laser System........

Met dit wapen in een andere stand kunnen mensen tijdelijk blind of doof worden gemaakt......

Dergelijke wetenschappers zouden voor het Internationaal Strafhof moeten worden gedaagd, immers als de doos van Pandora eenmaal is geopend is deze welhaast niet meer te sluiten zeker niet in de VS, waar men mensen die terecht demonstreren afschildert als terroristen, ook al zijn deze mensen geweldloos bezig....... 

Het openen van die doos is al gebeurd met het ontwikkelen van dit afschuwelijke wapen, al moet het nog verder worden 'geperfectioneerd....' Wetenschappers in de VS moeten toch intussen wel weten, dat de VS elk ontwikkeld wapen zal gebruiken, de (ook recente) geschiedenis staat vol voorbeelden.....

At its highest setting, the new laser weapon would painfully vaporize the outer layer of skin from 100 meters away. Also, this so-called “non-lethal” weapon can kill people.

(CD) — From wood batons to stun batons to water cannons to sound cannons to. . .  frickin’ plasma lasers that can “vaporize” your skin?

Recent reporting out of the Pentagon reveals that the U.S. military is working on perfecting what they called a Scalable Compact Ultra-short Pulse Laser System (SCUPLS)—or plasma gun, for short—intended for mounting on a truck or a tank.

Billed as the military’s latest “crowd control” technology, what this has typically meant is a new “non-lethal” weapon designed for use by militaries or police forces against unruly demonstrators or those standing against powerful state actors or corporate forces.

According to U.S. government documents, the aim of the ongoing project is to develop “a lightweight and energy efficient next-generation Ultra-Short Pulse Laser (USPL) system that can produce sustainable and controllable plasma at range capable of inducing a full spectrum of scalable non-lethal effects.” As a so-called “scalable” weapon, it will be able to shoot not only piercing sounds, but also “burn off” or “vaporize” human skin, and ultimately could be used to kill its target.

As the Daily Mail recently explained, the weapon will be able to “produce a range of effects”:

• At the lowest setting, the weapon can produce speech, and it will be able to warn people up to 3,200 feet (1,000m) away by delivering voice messages.
• When it gets closer, the weapon will  deliver a ‘Flash-bang effect’ by sending an ‘acoustic blast of ~ 165+ dB at minimum distance of 100 meters’.
• It will also be able to send a ‘Flash blind effects (6-8 million candela)’ momentarily blinding people at minimum distance of 100 meters
• The highest setting of the current model will let loose ‘Full scalable thermal ablative effects’ through common natural clothing (i.e., fabric, denim, leather, etc.) at minimum distance of 100 meters. This would painfully vaporize the outer layer of skin – rather than burning it will be turned into gas.

Vaporizing skin? Yes, that’s precisely what “scalable thermal ablative effects” means.

Ultimately, as the government’s program plan lays out, the weapon would “have direct application to many other U.S. Government agencies as well as civilian law enforcement. The Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, Department of Justice, the Secret Service, and Customs and Border Protection also desire this full spectrum of effects capability. The ability to non-lethally interdict a threatening person or persons has utility in many security and crowd control applications to include several municipal applications.”

Of course, what this often means is using such a weapon—as has long been true with other “crowd control” technologies—in order to intimidate or put down public protest or organized demonstrations that are seen as threatening to powerful interests.

Pentagon Report Points To US Preparations For Total War

October 11, 2018 "Information Clearing House" -  Over the past two weeks, with next to no media coverage, the United States has moved substantially closer toward open military confrontation with both Russia and China, the second- and third-ranked nuclear powers in the world.

On October 3, the United States threatened, for the first time since the Cold War, to directly attack the Russian homeland. UN Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison accused the country of violating the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty by developing a nuclear cruise missile and said that Washington was preparing to “take out” the weapon with a US strike.

This statement came just three days after a Chinese warship set a collision course with a US destroyer carrying out a so-called “freedom of navigation” operation in the South China Sea, forcing the American ship to maneuver to avoid a collision and the potentially deadliest military clash in the Pacific in decades.

Behind such hair-raising incidents, the United States is undertaking serious, long-term preparations to restructure the American economy to fight a major war with a “peer” adversary, entailing radical changes to American economic, social and political life.

This is the essential content of a 146-page document released by the Pentagon last Friday, titled “Assessing and Strengthening the Manufacturing and Defense Industrial Base and Supply Chain Resiliency of the United States.” It makes it clear that Washington is preparing not just for isolated regional clashes, but rather for a massive, long-term war effort against Russia and China under conditions of potential national autarchy.

The document made clear that a major restructuring of the American economy will be necessary to reach the United States military’s stated goal of being prepared to “fight tonight” against a “peer adversary.” The United States must “retool” for “great-power competition,” the document declared.

“America’s manufacturing and defense industrial base,” observes the report, creates the “platform and systems” upon which “our Warfighter depends.” This complex encompasses not just the government, but the private sector, as well as “R&D organizations” and “academic institutions.” In other words, the entire economy and society.

It warns that “The erosion of American manufacturing over the last two decades… threatens to undermine the ability of U.S. manufacturers to meet national security requirements. Today, we rely on single domestic sources for some products and foreign supply chains for others, and we face the possibility of not being able to produce specialized components for the military at home.”

Correcting this strategic deficiency, the report concludes, means that “support for a vibrant domestic manufacturing sector, a solid defense industrial base, and resilient supply chains is a national priority.”

The report squarely targets China, declaring, “China’s economic strategies, combined with the adverse impacts of other nations’ industrial policies, pose significant threats to the U.S. industrial base and thereby pose a growing risk to U.S. national security.”

The promotion of US manufacturing dominance, in other words, is vital for promoting military dominance.

The protection of heavy industry goes together with the administration’s efforts to defend America’s high-tech sector, the source of a vast portion of US profitability.

As the report notes, “One of the Chinese Communist Party’s primary industrial initiatives, Made in China 2025, targets artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, autonomous and new energy vehicles, high performance medical devices, high-tech ship components, and other emerging industries critical to national defense.”

It warns that “Chinese R&D spending is rapidly converging to that of the U.S. and will likely achieve parity sometime in the near future,” and worriedly points to the fact that the Chinese manufacturer DJI dominates the commercial aerial drone market.

The Pentagon’s plans for protecting and expanding the US high-tech sector include its backing for the administration’s efforts to limit the admission of Chinese students to US universities through visa restrictions. The report complains that, with as many as 25 percent of “STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics] graduates in the U.S. being Chinese nationals… American universities are major enablers of China’s economic and military rise.”

The vision in the document, in other words, is the concrete expression of the conception outlined in the latest US national security strategy, calling for “the seamless integration of multiple elements of national power—diplomacy, information, economics, finance, intelligence, law enforcement and military.”

A leading element of this equation is the American corporate technology sector, which has scrambled for fat Pentagon contracts to develop the latest generation of weapons systems. In exchange for these payouts, and aggressive protection from their international rivals, they have worked closely to implement what one leaked internal Google document called a “shift towards censorship” in cooperation with the demands of the US military and intelligence agencies.

The logic of this growing fusion between the repressive apparatus of the state and increasingly powerful monopolies is the necessary correlation between “total war” and a “totalitarian” society, in which key constitutional provisions are rendered effectively meaningless.

The central target of such measures will be the forcible suppression of the class struggle in the name of promoting “national security.” The escalation of global US militarism has coincided with a major upsurge in the class struggle, including the rejection of a concessions contract by workers at UPS, the logistics giant whose powerful workforce is capable of crippling not just America’s industrial base, but substantial sections of the wartime economy.air

De ruiten trilden in de sponningen en alles stond te rammelen in m'n huis, dit nabij het centrum van Den Haag...... (waarom mag men met dit soort oorlogstuig over stedelijk gebied vliegen???)

De evolutie van politiestaat VS o.a. te zien in het buitenspel zetten van burgerrechten in steden als Boston en Charlottesville

Gisteren bracht John Whitehead een opiniestuk op de site van The Rutherford Institute, waarin hij aangeeft 'hoe makkelijk' hele steden op slot kunnen worden gedaan.....

In zijn woonplaats Charlottesville maakte hij het zelf mee: een jaar geleden waren er rellen in Charlottesville waarbij een fascist een moord pleegde op een demonstrant die zich tegen de fascistisch parade in Charlottesville keerde*. Dezelfde dag een jaar later werd voorafgegaan door het met veel bombarie op slot gooien van de stad, waarbij de bewoners werden geacht zoveel mogelijk in huis te blijven. De noodtoestand en de staat van beleg werden afgekondigd, zonder dat daar ook maar één aanwijsbare reden voor was (bijvoorbeeld de aankondiging van de neonazi's dat ze weer een parade zouden houden in Charlottesville...).... 

De politie in de VS is in hoge mate gemilitariseerd, inclusief automatische wapens die de VS o.a. gebruikt in haar illegale oorlogen in het Midden-Oosten en Afrika...... Hetzelfde geldt voor een deel van het rollend materieel van de politie: pantserwagens en zelfs een klein soort tank..... Dit nog naast de National Guard, in feite een paramilitaire organisatie met reservisten, die bij grote rellen e.d. regelmatig te zien is in de straten van de VS en de beschikking heeft over een veel groter deel van het oorlogstuig dat de VS in het buitenland gebruikt (zoals gezegd in illegale oorlogen), dus ook tanks en 'oorlogshelikopters.......' 

Al moet aan het voorgaande worden toegevoegd dat de 'gewone' politie meer en meer wordt gemilitariseerd en daarmee de beschikking krijgt over steeds meer oorlogsmaterieel en er steeds minder verschil is te zien tussen de politie en de National Guard..... Uiteraard 'met dank' aan de lobby van de wapenfabrikanten............

De VS is dan ook verworden tot een politiestaat en dat al enige jaren, het ontbreekt nog net aan volledige censuur, al wordt daar met hulp van Facebook en Google hard aan gewerkt.....** Hoewel de VS keer op keer als excuus voor militair ingrijpen aanvoert dat het democratie wil brengen, terwijl in eigen land 'de democratie' wordt gekocht met enorme bakken geld en het buitenspel zetten van grote groepen (arme en veelal gekleurde) kiezers......

De schrijver van het hieronder opgenomen artikel van The Rutherford Institute, John Whitehead, is het 'niet helemaal eens' met het voorgaande, hij ziet de VS transformeren in een politiestaat. Whitehead gaat o.a. in op de manier waarop de bevolking monddood wordt gemaakt en op bepaalde momenten zelfs geen vrijheid van bewegen heeft in de eigen stad...... Voorts noemt hij o.a. Göring die na WOII op het proces van Neurenberg aangaf wat er nodig is om een bevolking te manipuleren.

It takes a remarkable force to keep businesses closed and cars off the road, to keep playgrounds empty and porches unused across a densely populated place 125 square miles in size. This happened … not because armed officers went door-to-door, or imposed a curfew, or threatened martial law. All around the region, for 13 hours, people locked up their businesses and ‘sheltered in place’ out of a kind of collective will. The force that kept them there wasn’t external – there was virtually no active enforcement across the city of the governor’s plea that people stay indoors. Rather, the pressure was an internal one – expressed as concern, or helpfulness, or in some cases, fear – felt in thousands of individual homes.” — Journalist Emily Badger, “The Psychology of a Citywide Lockdown”

(RI) — It has become way too easy to lockdown this nation.

Five years ago, the city of Boston was locked down while police carried out a military-style manhunt for suspects in the 2013 Boston Marathon explosion.

Four years ago, the city of Ferguson, Missouri, was locked down, with government officials deploying a massive SWAT team, an armored personnel carrier, men in camouflage pointing heavy artillery at the crowd, smoke bombs and tear gas to quell citizen unrest over a police shooting of a young, unarmed black man.

Three years ago, the city of Baltimore was put under a military-enforced lockdown after civil unrest over police brutality erupted into rioting. More than 1,500 national guard troops were deployed while residents were ordered to stay inside their homes and put under a 10 pm curfew.

This year, it was my hometown of Charlottesville, Va., population 50,000, that was locked down while government officials declared a state of emergency and enacted heightened security measures tantamount to martial law, despite the absence of any publicized information about credible threats to public safety.

As Tess Owen reports for Vice:

One year after white supremacists paraded through the streets, the face of downtown Charlottesville was transformed once again – this time with checkpoints, military-style camps for National Guard, and state police on every corner. When residents woke up Saturday, all entrances to the downtown mall were blocked off, apart from two checkpoints, where police looked through people’s bags for lighters, knives or any other weapons. Up above, standing atop a building site, two national guard members photographed the individuals coming in and out… A National Guard encampment was set up in McGuffey Park, between the children’s playground and the basketball court, where about 20 military police officers in camouflage were snoozing in the shade of some trees. A similar encampment was set up a few blocks away.

Downtown Charlottesville felt like the green zone of a war-torn city Saturday. More than a thousand local and state police officers barricaded 10 blocks of the city’s popular pedestrian district, the Downtown Mall, to prepare for the one-year anniversary of the white supremacist rally last year that left dozens injured and one dead. To enter, people had to submit to bag checks and searches at one of two checkpoints… Preparations aside, unlike last year, no white supremacist groups had said they were going to visit the city, and, by week’s end, none had. Instead, it was a normal day on the mall except for the heavy security, a military helicopter constantly circling overhead, and hundreds of police officers milling around.

Make no mistake, this was a militarized exercise in intimidation, and it worked only too well.

For the most part, the residents of this city—once home to Thomas Jefferson, the nation’s third president, author of the Declaration of Independence, and champion of the Bill of Rights—welcomed the city-wide lockdown, the invasion of their privacy, and the dismantling of every constitutional right intended to serve as a bulwark against government abuses.

Yet for those like myself who have studied emerging police states, the sight of any American city placed under martial law—its citizens essentially under house arrest (officials used the Orwellian phrase “shelter in place” in Boston to describe the mandatory lockdown), military-style helicopters equipped with thermal imaging devices buzzing the skies, tanks and armored vehicles on the streets, and snipers perched on rooftops, while thousands of black-garbed police swarmed the streets and SWAT teams carried out house-to-house searches—leaves us in a growing state of unease.

Watching the events of the lockdown unfold, I couldn’t help but think of Nazi Field Marshal Hermann Goering’s remarks during the Nuremberg trials. As Goering noted:

It is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country. (Goering was een vuile fascistische ploert, maar dit is wel een waarheid als een koe!!!)

As the events in Charlottesville have made clear, it does indeed work the same in every country.

Whatever the threat to so-called security—whether it’s civil unrest, school shootings, or alleged acts of terrorism—government officials will capitalize on the nation’s heightened emotions, confusion and fear as a means of extending the reach of the police state.

These troubling developments are the outward manifestations of an inner, philosophical shift underway in how the government views not only the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, but “we the people,” as well.

What this reflects is a move away from a government bound by the rule of law to one that seeks total control through the imposition of its own self-serving laws on the populace.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much for the American people to march in lockstep with the government’s dictates, even if it means submitting to martial law, having their homes searched, and being stripped of one’s constitutional rights at a moment’s notice.

In Charlottesville, most of the community fell in line, except for one gun-toting, disabled, 71-year-old war veteran who was arrested for purchasing cans of Arizona iced tea, a can of bug spray and razor blades, all of which were on the City’s list of temporarily prohibited, potentially “dangerous” items. Incidentally, the veteran’s guns (not among the list of prohibited items) caused no alarm.

Talk about draconian.

This continual undermining of the rules that protect civil liberties will inevitably have far-reaching consequences on a populace that not only remains ignorant about their rights but is inclined to sacrifice their liberties for phantom promises of safety.

Be warned: these lockdowns are just a precursor to full-blown martial law.

The powers-that-be want us acclimated to the sights and sounds of a city-wide lockdown with tanks in the streets, military encampments in cities, Blackhawk helicopters and armed drones patrolling overhead.

They want us to accept the fact that in the American police state, we are all potentially guilty, all potential criminals, all suspects waiting to be accused of a crime.

They want us to be meek and submissive.

They want us to report on each other.

They want us to be grateful to the standing armies for their so-called protection.

They want us to self-censor our speech, self-limit our movements, and police ourselves.

As Glenn Greenwald notes in The Intercept:

“Americans are now so accustomed to seeing police officers decked in camouflage and Robocop-style costumes, riding in armored vehicles and carrying automatic weapons first introduced during the U.S. occupation of Baghdad, that it has become normalized… The dangers of domestic militarization are both numerous and manifest. To begin with… it degrades the mentality of police forces in virtually every negative way and subjects their targeted communities to rampant brutality and unaccountable abuse… Police militarization also poses grave and direct dangers to basic political liberties, including rights of free speech, press and assembly.” (!!!)

Make no mistake: these are the hallmarks of a military occupation.

Militarized police. Riot squads. Camouflage gear. Black uniforms. Armored vehicles. Mass arrests.

Pepper spray. Tear gas. Batons. Strip searches. Surveillance cameras. Kevlar vests. Drones. Lethal weapons. Less-than-lethal weapons unleashed with deadly force. Rubber bullets. Water cannons. Stun grenades. Arrests of journalists. Crowd control tactics. Intimidation tactics. Brutality.

We are already under martial law, held at gunpoint by a standing army.

Take a look at the pictures from Charlottesville, from Baltimore, from Ferguson and from Boston, and then try to persuade yourself that this is what freedom in America is supposed to look like.

A standing army—something that propelled the early colonists into revolution—strips the American people of any vestige of freedom.

It was for this reason that those who established America vested control of the military in a civilian government, with a civilian commander-in-chief. They did not want a military government, ruled by force. Rather, they opted for a republic bound by the rule of law: the U.S. Constitution.

Unfortunately, with the Constitution under constant attack, the military’s power, influence and authority have grown dramatically. Even the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which makes it a crime for the government to use the military to carry out arrests, searches, seizure of evidence and other activities normally handled by a civilian police force, was greatly weakened by both Barack Obama and George W. Bush, who ushered in exemptions allowing troops to deploy domestically and arrest civilians in the wake of alleged terrorist acts.

Now we find ourselves struggling to retain some semblance of freedom in the face of police and law enforcement agencies that look and act like the military and have just as little regard for the Fourth Amendment, laws such as the NDAA that allow the military to arrest and indefinitely detain American citizens, and military drills that acclimate the American people to the sight of armored tanks in the streets, military encampments in cities, and combat aircraft patrolling overhead.

We’ve already gone too far down this road.

Add these lockdowns onto the list of other troubling developments that have taken place over the past 30 years or more, and the picture grows even more troubling: the expansion of the military industrial complex and its influence in Washington DC, the rampant surveillance, the corporate-funded elections and revolving door between lobbyists and elected officials, the militarized police, the loss of our freedoms, the injustice of the courts, the privatized prisons, the school lockdowns, the roadside strip searches, the military drills on domestic soil, the fusion centers and the simultaneous fusing of every branch of law enforcement (federal, state and local), the stockpiling of ammunition by various government agencies, the active shooter drills that are indistinguishable from actual crises, the economy flirting with near collapse, etc.

Suddenly, the overall picture seems that much more sinister.

The lesson for the rest of us is this: once a free people allows the government to make inroads into their freedoms or uses those same freedoms as bargaining chips for security, it quickly becomes a slippery slope to outright tyranny. And it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a Democrat or a Republican at the helm, because the bureaucratic mindset on both sides of the aisle now seems to embody the same philosophy of authoritarian government.

Remember, a police state does not come about overnight.

It starts small, perhaps with a revenue-generating red light camera at an intersection.

When that is implemented without opposition, perhaps next will be surveillance cameras on public streets. License plate readers on police cruisers. More police officers on the beat. Free military equipment from the federal government. Free speech zones and zero tolerance policies and curfews. SWAT team raids. Drones flying overhead. City-wide lockdowns.

No matter how it starts, however, it always ends the same.

Remember, it’s a slippery slope from a questionable infringement justified in the name of safety to all-out tyranny.

These are no longer warning signs of a steadily encroaching police state.
