Julian Assanges vervolging is de genadeklap voor klokkenluiders en (echte) journalisten

De hele wereld kijkt mee naar wat er met Julian Assange gebeurt nu hij is gevangengezet door GB, die hem tegen internationale regels in ontvoerde uit de ambassade van Ecuador.

Caitlin Johnstone publiceerde het hieronder opgenomen artikel op haar site, een artikel waarin ze uitlegt dat de gijzeling van Assange veel verder gaat dan de zaak waarvoor Assange vastzit. Deze zaak gaat elke (echte) journalist* aan, waar deze ook werkzaam is in onze wereld, hetzelfde geldt uiteraard voor klokkenluiders als Chelsea Manning, die volkomen terecht zware (oorlogs-) misdaden openbaarde en doorspeelde naar WikiLeaks.....

Met de informatie die Manning naar buiten bracht werd ten overvloede nog eens bewezen dat de VS zich gedraagt als een politiemacht van een bloedige dictatuur en waar die macht niet werd aangewezen door de wereldgemeenschap, maar door de opvolgende regeringen in de VS..... 'Een politiemacht' die niet opkomt voor mensenrechten en democratie zoals de VS keer op keer laat weten, maar die de belangen van de VS behartigen, zoals het veiligstellen ('stelen...') van grote olievoorraden voor eigen gebruik.....

Met het klokkenluiden van Manning werd ten overvloede nog eens aangetoond dat de reguliere westerse media aan de leiband lopen van de plutocratische eigenaren die deze media bezitten en van de westerse regeringen..... Het laatste daar die media en regeringen Assange afschilderen als een nep-journalist en WikiLeaks beschrijven als een site die een groot aantal mensen in gevaar heeft gebracht. 'Natuurlijk' wijzen deze media Manning aan als een landverrader.......

Dit alles waar deze media* juist het werk van Assange hadden moeten doen en hem uit en te na hadden moeten beschermen en helpen tegen de neoliberale willekeur en zucht naar censuur.... Niet vreemd dus dat de reguliere westerse media negatief commentaar gaven op Assange na diens ontvoering uit de Ecuadoraanse ambassade in Londen....... Assange wordt gegijzeld in een gevangenis die het Britse Guantanamo Bay wordt genoemd...... 

Het gaat om HM Prison Belmarsh, een gevangenis waar Assange zelfs niet met zijn familie en advocaten mag spreken, een schande van formaat en een gang van zaken die in een dictatuur thuishoort, hetzelfde geldt voor de hernieuwde gevangenschap van Manning in de VS, Manning die ook al geruime tijd in isolatiefolter wordt gehouden........

Johnstone heeft het gelijk aan haar kant, waar ze stelt dat de ontvoering en gijzeling van Assange een waarschuwing is voor iedere klokkenluider die zaken naar buiten wil brengen en voor iedere journalist die van plan is deze gelekte documenten te publiceren, zoals Assange dit deed op WikiLeaks...... Jammer dat Johnstone stelt dergelijke zaken niet te zullen publiceren, daar ze te bang is voor gevangenschap en zij is daarin jammer genoeg bepaald niet alleen........ 

The Prosecution Of Julian Assange Is Infinitely Bigger Than Assange

Julian Assange's mother reported yesterday that the WikiLeaks founder has not been permitted any visitors during his detention in Belmarsh Prison, including from doctors and his lawyers. Doctors who visited Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy have attested that he urgently needs medical care.

Belmarsh is a maximum security prison sometimes referred to as "the UK's Guantanamo Bay".

And yet we're asked to believe that this has something to do with an alleged bail violation and a US extradition request for alleged computer crimes carrying a maximum sentence of five years. If you zoom out and listen to the less-informed chatter of the overt propagandists and the brainwashed rank-and-file western mass media consumers, you will also see that people believe this has something to do with Russia and rape allegations as well.

Actually, none of these things are true. Assange is being imprisoned under draconian conditions for journalism, and for journalism only. The Obama administration declined to prosecute him after WikiLeaks' publication of the Manning leaks out of concern that doing so would endanger press freedoms, and the Obama administration didn't have any more evidence at its disposal than the Trump administration has now. The "crime" Assange is accused of consists of nothing other than standard journalistic practices that investigative journalists engage in all the time, including source protection and encouraging the source to obtain more material. The only thing that has changed is an increased willingness in the White House to prosecute journalists for practicing journalism, and there are an abundance of reasons to believe that he will be hit with far more serious charges once extradited to US soil. They're not going to all this trouble for a bail violation and a five-year maximum sentence.

But if you zoom out even further, in the grand scheme of things this barely even has anything to do with Assange. Sure, he has of course been a thorn in the side of those who operate the transnational western power alliance, and given the choice they would of course prefer him to be locked up or dead than free and alive. But that's not what the corrupt influencers who are strangling our world are shooting for here. They are making a grab for something much, much bigger. Assange just happens to be a stepping stone along the way.

As we've discussed previously, the prosecution of Assange is really designed to set a legal precedent which will enable the US government to imprison journalists for trying to hold it to account using journalism. The reason you are seeing the phrase "Assange is not a journalist" bleated constantly by empire lackeys all around the world today is because they need a counter-narrative for the indisputable fact that this precedent poses a threat to journalists around the world, the argument being that since Assange isn't a journalist (pure bullshit by the way), this isn't setting a precedent for journalists. As though their personal definition of what a "real journalist" is will be the one used by the US government when determining whether or not to prosecute other people for doing things similar to what Assange did, instead of whatever definition happens to suit US government agendas in that instance.

But in order to get the really, really big picture perspective of what these bastards are going for, we need to zoom out even further than that.

In the sci-fi novel Ender's Game, the young protagonist applies a vicious beating to one of his bullies, killing him. When asked why he did this by his handlers, the boy, who has been bred and raised to become a strategic savant, explains that he did it not out of malice toward the bully, nor only to win the fight, but to win all future fights as well. If the kids at school see what savagery he's capable of and know he's not to be trifled with, he won't ever have to fight them.

If this sounds a bit sociopathic to you, that's because it is. And, with the notable difference of the bully and victim roles being reversed, this is exactly the principle we are seeing exercised with Assange.

The entire world is watching what is being done to Assange currently. No matter how propagandized you are, no matter how much you hate the man personally, you're watching that happen and learning a lesson from it. And that lesson is, never do anything remotely like what that guy did, or you'll meet the same fate. This is the real goal of Assange's persecution, and it doesn't impact merely one Australian publisher in a UK jail cell, nor even merely the investigative journalists around the world who are interested in practicing the lost art of holding power to account using journalism, but everyone in the world who consumes news media.

And it works. I know it works because it works on me. I'll say right here and now, if you've got information that incriminates the most powerful people in the world, keep it the hell away from me. Give it to someone else, literally anyone else, because I myself am far too cowardly and have far too much to lose by getting involved in anything that could lead to me rotting in some overseas prison cell. I've got kids. I'm in love. I cannot and will not go down that path. And if this is true for me I know for certain that it's true for countless others as well. They've brutalized whistleblowers to the point that it's surely had a severe chilling effect on those who would otherwise become key leak sources, and now they're brutalizing the journalists who publish those leaks as well. The odds of someone willing to blow the whistle on real power meeting a journalist who is willing to help them are rapidly diminishing to zero.

They're winning this fight against Assange in brutal fashion to ensure that they win all future fights as well.

Which is why it's absolutely stupid that this conversation so often gets fixated on Assange the man, whether it's smears or praise.

The other day I published a massive mega-article attacking the major smears about Assange I've encountered. There are 27 of them in total so far, and I'll be adding more soon. This mountain of smears exists because instead of paying attention to the world-shaping dangers I just outlined which threaten to make it impossible to oppose the leaders of the US-centralized empire who are marching us towards either extinction or dystopia, people are babbling about Assange's personality, or whether or not he cleaned up after his cat while at the embassy.

The flip side of this is people who fixate on Assange as a hero, which can of course help draw attention to his plight and therefore be of some benefit, but ultimately that's also missing the forest for the trees.

This is so very, very much bigger than Assange, and we need to oppose it for reasons that are far, far more significant than the individual characteristics of one man who, depending on what we've heard, we may or may not believe is a nice person.

Never lose sight of this: the intimidation of whistleblowers and leak publishers threatens to stop truth from informing the behaviors of our entire species, leaving only the whims of the most powerful to decide our fate. The most powerful people are those most dedicated to pursuing power, those sociopathic enough to step on anyone's head and do whatever it takes to secure as much control as possible over as many humans as possible. That's who we're handing the steering wheel of our world to if we allow truth to be intimidated into silence.

And never lose sight of this, either: with the imprisonment and prosecution of Julian Assange, these same sociopathic oppressors have exposed themselves. They have ripped off the friendly Big Brother mask and exposed the dark infernal entities which squirm and hiss underneath. This sudden interest in the legal technicalities of bail protocol and journalistic source protection protocol happen to look exactly the same as prosecuting a journalist for publishing facts because that is exactly what is happening. Don't ever let anyone gaslight you into believing otherwise, and don't you dare miss this rare opportunity to point out to your fellow humans how our oppressors have revealed their true nature.

Rapport maakt duidelijk dat VAE 23 gevangenen hebben vermoord in Jemenitische gevangenissen

Om nog eens duidelijk te maken aan de wereld dat men in de Golfstaten en als je Saoedi-Arabië daartoe wilt rekenen, totaal schijt heeft aan mensenrechten, e.e.a. blijkt uit een door gevangenen geschreven document, gericht aan de Jemenitische minister van binnenlandse zaken* al-Maisari.... Uit dat document blijkt dat in de door de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten** (VAE) geleide gevangenissen in Jemen 23 gevangenen werden vermoord door dit geteisem......

Voorts maken gevangenen in 4 gevangenissen, melding van de verdwijning van 23 gevangenen...... (4 gevangenissen inclusief 3 van de 6 gevangenissen waarin de hiervoor aangehaalde moorden werden gepleegd)

Gevangenen in een andere gevangenis zijn al 4 weken in hongerstaking terwijl het bestuur van de gevangenis daar niet op reageert.......

Tijd voor een koninklijke reis van W.A. en pampakoningin Maxima naar de Emiraten en Saoedi-Arabië, uiteraard bijgestaan door VVD hufters Blok en zijn grijnzende collega, tevens topleugenaar Rutte, die zich godbetert premier van dit land mag noemen.......

Vreemd dat er in het hieronder opgenomen artikel niet wordt gesproken over het martelen van gevangenen, terwijl dat dagelijkse praktijk is in de door de VAE geleide gevangenissen (zie wat dat betreft o.a. de laatste van de drie links onderaan het hieronder opgenomen artikel).......

Report: 23 detainees killed in UAE-run prisons in Yemen

Al-Khaleej Online reported that it had obtained a document revealing that as many as 23 Yemeni detainees had been executed in secret prisons run by the UAE in the southern Yemeni city of Aden.

In a letter sent by detainees at Bir Ahmed Prison to Yemeni Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Maisari said the prisoners had been killed in Shallal, Abu Al-Yamamah, Saleh Al-Sayyid, Yasran, Bir Ahmed Al-Qadim and Mansoura prisons.

In another handwritten document, the detainees revealed that 23 detainees are missing in the prisons of Shallal, Abu Al-Yamamah, Yasran, Saleh Al-Sayyid and Al-Tahalof.

According to the document, as many as 26 detainees from the National Army and Popular Resistance Forces are detained in Bir Ahmed prison.

The detainees explained to the interior minister that they had been on hunger strike for four weeks without any response to their demands and held him responsible for anything that happens to them because he is in charge of prisoner affairs.

Alan Johnston (BBC correspondent) geeft Israël de stok om 'de Libanese hond te slaan'

Alan Johnston, de BBC correspondent die in 2007 werd ontvoerd en die door de 'militante tak' (woorden op Wikipedia*) van Hamas werd bevrijd, is intussen een brave correspondent geworden, die vooral de door de BBC gewilde Israëlische propaganda uitdraagt.....

In het BBC World Service nieuws van 11.00 u. (CET) gistermorgen was Johnston te horen met een sensationeel verhaal over Hezbollah tunnels, die deze groep zou hebben gegraven vanuit Libanon onder de grens met Israël, om zo aanslagen te kunnen plegen op Israëlisch grondgebied.....

Jammer voor Johnston, maar 'het nieuws' dat hij bracht, letterlijk overgenomen van een woordvoerder van het psychopathisch gewelddadige Israëlische leger, is een 'nieuwtje' van een aantal weken geleden, waar toen al van werd gezegd, dat dit bericht onbetrouwbaar was.... Onbetrouwbaar daar Hezbollah in het grensgebied wel tunnels heeft gegraven, maar dat deze dienen als bescherming voor burgers en Hezbollah leden, dit tegen de agressie van dat Israëlische leger, men stelde destijds dat de tunnels niet onder grens door in Israëlisch grondgebied eindigden......

Ofwel: Johnson laat zich door de fascistische apartheidsstaat Israël gebruiken, om propaganda tegen Libanon en Hezbollah in het bijzonder te maken........ Het voorgaande, terwijl Israël de laatste maanden al troepen en militair materieel aan de grens met Libanon heeft samengetrokken (en dat nog schijnt te doen, overigens nu ook op de Golanhoogten)........ Kortom Johnston helpt Israël de stok om de Libanese hond te slaan

Ach ja, de BBC heeft al heel lang niets meer van doen met onafhankelijke journalistiek en neemt het telkens weer op voor terreurstaat Israël, ongeacht de massamoorden die de regering van dit van de Palestijnen gestolen land begaat..........

Guantanamo Bay, de schande van de VS, 10 jaar na de belofte deze illegale gevangenis te sluiten

Activisten hebben afgelopen donderdag in Washington gedemonstreerd tegen het zonder een eerlijk proces voor onbepaalde tijd vasthouden van verdachten, dit in concentratiekamp Guantanamo Bay op Cuba......

Nog 40 verdachten zitten vast in Guantanamo Bay, 17 jaar na het installeren van dit concentratiekamp en 10 jaar nadat Obama een onmiddellijke sluiting beloofde.......

In feite gijzelt de VS de gevangenen op Guantanamo Bay, een smerige misdaad (waar hun gevangenneming al illegaal was en ze daarna ook nog eens werden ontvoerd door de VS....)...... Aan het voorgaande kan je toevoegen dat de behandeling van de gegijzelde verdachten in dit concentratiekamp zonder meer als geestelijke en fysieke marteling kan worden gezien....... Guantanamo Bay waar de verdachten werden gemarteld met o.a. martelwerktuigen, martelingen waarna een paar verdachten werden veroordeeld, alsof het normaal is om mensen te martelen voor een verklaring (die zoals wetenschappelijk bewezen, van nul en generlei waarde is....)

De VS bewijst met Guantanamo Bay, of zelfs men het daar noemt Gitmo, geheel ten overvloede nog eens dat het de grootste terreurentiteit op aarde is.......

Hoe is het in godsnaam mogelijk dat de wereld de VS laat begaan, niet alleen met het concentratiekamp op Cuba, maar ook met alle andere vormen van grootschalige terreur die de VS uitoefent over de wereld, zoals: -illegale oorlogen, -staatsgrepen, -geheime militaire moordacties, -standrechtelijke executie van verdachten middels drones (waarbij meer dan 90% van de slachtoffers niet eens werd verdacht....), -het organiseren van opstanden het liefst middels economische oorlogsvoering en -het beïnvloeden van de politiek en verkiezingen elders..... Voor al deze zaken bestaan bij wijze van spreken kilometers aan bewijsmateriaal.......

WASHINGTON - Guantanamo Bay inmate Tolfiq al-Bihani has been cleared for release, but 10 years after former President Barack Obama signed an executive order to shut down the detention facility, he and 39 others remain imprisoned without the prospect of freedom or a fair trial.

On Thursday, dozens of activists gathered at a park across from the White House to demand closing the detention facility, which operates outside the US legal system.

Protesters in orange jumpsuits with black bags covering their heads, symbolising the abuse that Guantanamo prisoners have faced, stood with their backs to the White House as activists and legal experts denounced the continued detention of 40 people at the prison.

The facility, built on US-controlled land in Cuba, was set up to house suspected dangerous militants from US wars after the 9/11 attacks.

The demonstration marked 17 years since the detention facility opened and 10 years since Obama signed a decree to close it down "promptly".

Jessica Murphy and Leila Murphy, two sisters whose father was killed in the 9/11 attacks, said instead of ensuring justice for the victims Guantanamo has "compounded the tragedy of 9/11".

"We abhor the government's disregard for rule of law and its flagrant human rights abuses in the name of our father and other victims," they said, taking turns reading a joint statement.

'Source of shame'

British journalist Andy Worthington said the detention facility has been open for 6,210 days.

"That's 6,210 days of shame for every decent American… Every day this prison is open is a source of shame for all decent people," he told the crowd.

"This isn't an ordinary prison where people have been tried and convicted. This isn't a war prison where people are taken off the battlefield and held, protected by the Geneva Convention until the end of hostilities."

What Guantanamo is, Worthington said, is a place where people can be held without "any rights whatsoever as human beings".

He called the detainees political prisoners who have become political tools for President Donald Trump.

Indeed, the US president has repeatedly brought up Guantanamo to project an image of strength in the face of supposed danger from what he calls "radical Islamic terrorism".

Trump even mentioned the prison in his 2018 State of the Union, an annual speech to the nation in which presidents highlight their accomplishments and lay out their vision for the forthcoming year.

Furthermore, under his administration, the process of finding countries to transfer five inmates cleared for release, including al-Bihani, has been frozen.

As a candidate, Trump promised to keep the prison open and load it up with "bad dudes".

Civil rights advocates have criticised the abuse and lack of due process at the detention facility, where inmates have few legal resources and face no charges from which they can defend themselves.

Last year, Trump revoked Obama's executive order to shut down the prison, proclaiming that the US can detain "certain persons captured in connection with an armed conflict for the duration of the conflict".

Critics say Trump's decree opens the door for indefinite detention of suspected militants, as the "War on Terror" has been going on for 18 years and has no end in sight.

For his part, Obama blamed lack of political consensus for his failure to follow up on the promise to down the facility.

"He wasn't bold enough," said Daphne Eviatar, Amnesty International USA's director of security with human rights, of the former president. "He could have done it at the very beginning. He had the support of Congress."

In the process of being "extremely careful", Eviatar told Middle East Eye, Obama slowed the process of transferring detainees, and when Republicans took over Congress in 2011, they refused to transfer suspects to the US for trial.

'Immoral and inhumane'

"This prison is unconstitutional, it is illegal and more importantly it is immoral and inhumane," said Aya Saed, who works at the Center for Constitutional Rights, which legally represents Guantanamo detainees.

While acknowledging the difficulty of progress under the Trump administration, Saed called for collective action on behalf of the prisoners.

"What I do hope is that their perseverance, their resilience, their will to get up every day to participate in hunger strikes inspires us to continue dreaming of a different world, imagining of a different reality," she said at the protest on Friday.

At an event organised by the Congressional Progressive Caucus and rights groups in Washington earlier on Friday, Mohamedou Slahi, a former in Guantanamo inmate who was held from 2002 until 2016, described the abuse he endured in the prison.

"In an attempt to force me to confess to crimes I did not commit, I was subjected to torture and to cruel and inhumane treatment," he told the attendees via video conference from Mauritania, where he was transferred in 2016, "as if losing my freedom, my livelihood and being forcibly separated from my loved ones wasn’t cruel enough."

The human rights activist and author of Guantanamo Diary, which he wrote when he was in the prison, added that his release in did not end his suffering.

"I am still not free," he said, explaining that he has been denied a passport and can’t leave Mauritania.

"I am a prisoner in my own country," Slahi said. "I am being denied my freedom of movement" despite never having been charged with or committing any acts of terrorism or other crimes.

Joseph Kabila Kabange, is de illegale president van de Democratische Republiek Congo, illegaal daar hij in 2016 de verkiezingen al eens heeft uitgesteld........ Nu heeft dezelfde Kabila besloten om districten in Congo waar ebola heerst, of waar onlusten zijn, uit te sluiten van de verkiezingen....... 'Toevallig' zijn dit districten waar de oppositie sterk is vertegenwoordigd........

CET) dat Kabila de Congolese bevolking heeft verzekerd dat het niet uitmaakt dat men in 3 districten pas over 3 maanden kan stemmen....... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Inderdaad, maakt niet uit, immers de partij van Kabila, de People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD) zal en moet de verkiezingen winnen!!

Kabila heeft na de grote demonstraties in Congo, over zijn beslissing de verkiezingen van 2016 uit te stellen, beloofd af te treden na de komende verkiezingen en heeft zich dan ook terecht niet kandidaat gesteld voor deze verkiezingen. Het voorgaande beste bezoeker is al heel wat als je ziet hoe autocratisch (en corrupt) deze Kabila de laatste bijna 18 jaar het land heeft 'geregeerd'.

Bedroevend te zien hoe weinig aandacht er in het westen is voor Congo, een enorm groot land waar als zoveel landen in Afrika de westerse kolonisators de grenzen voor een groot deel met linialen hebben getrokken, het recept voor moord en doodslag......... Het land pacificeren op de huidige grootte is zo goed als onmogelijk en lullig genoeg profiteren daarvan vooral de vroegere westerse kolonialisten, in dit geval (de grote) westerse bedrijven, warlords, radicale jihadstrijders en fundamentalistische christenen, waar zoals je begrijpt vooral het volk keer op keer als (het dodelijke) slachtoffer achterblijft.......

Araceli Ramos Bonilla is one mother very nearly lost her two-year-old daughter, Alexa, to an American family. She was arrested after crossing the border into Texas, and Alexa was taken away. Months later, she was denied asylum and deported to El Salvador without her baby. 

Alexa was eventually sent to live with a temporary foster family in Missouri. But through various legal loopholes, Alexa's guardians decided to seek custody even though they weren't supposed to. After 28 minutes in a courthouse, that Araceli had no idea was taking place, a judge granted them custody.


After a long and expensive fight, Araceli did eventually get Alexa back, but by that time, Alexa hardly recognized her mother. They were eventually able to bond, but the stress of separation has left an indelible scar on both of them.

Araceli and Alexa may have been reunited eventually, but many other families won't be that lucky.
