Blok (VVD 'minister' van BuZA) wenst in VN geen oproep tot wapenboycot te doen i.z. Jemen, in de VS blokkeerde huis van afgevaardigden een debat over de genocide in Jemen

Hoorde gistermiddag in het BNR nieuws van 17.30 u. dat VVD opperkloot Blok met tegenzin in de VN zal oproepen tot een wapenboycot tegen Saoedi-Arabië (Nederland is tot het eind van het jaar deelnemer aan de VN-Veiligheidsraad)........ Logisch, daar het ministerie van deze VVD schoft export van wapenonderdelen naar Saoedi-Arabië heeft goedgekeurd, simpel door in de vergunning het woord 'wapen' geheel weg te laten......

Uiteraard is dit bekend in het buitenland en Blok zal dan ook fiks voor lul staan (één van de zaken waar Blok pas echt goed in is!) als hij het pleidooi voor een wapenboycot aan de orde zal stellen in de VN......

Blok stelt dat een expert groep, die na inspanningen van Nederland 'schrijnende toestanden' in Jemen heeft onderzocht, tot de conclusie is gekomen dat er 'terughoudendheid' moet worden betracht met wapenleveranties aan de strijdende partijen, maar dat een wapenembargo niet nodig is.......... ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Er wordt door de Saoedische terreurcoalitie een genocide uitgevoerd in Jemen en juist die terreurcoalitie ontvangt wapens uit het westen, de Houthi's krijgen geen wapens uit het buitenland, hoe hard het westen o.l.v. de VS ook roept dat Iran wapens levert aan de Houthi's, is daar geen enkel bewijs voor geleverd en dat kan 'ook niet' daar het je reinste nonsens is!! 

Benieuwd wie deel uitmaakt van die expertgroep, maar dat daar lobbyisten inzitten van het militair-industrieel complex, met een zwak voor Saoedi-Arabië, lijkt me meer dan duidelijk! Dit is wat Blok verder nog durfde te zeggen over deze 'expertgroep': "Voor de effectiviteit van het panel is het goed als Nederland als moedernatie zich aansluit bij haar keuzes....." ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! Welke effectiviteit?? Oplichter, Nederland heeft daar al lang op geanticipeerd, al voor de inzet van een 'expertgroep', dit middels de eerder genoemde wapenleveranties uit Nederland; daarover zo nog meer.

In het BNR bericht werd gesteld dat de Kamer Blok de opdracht gaf e.e.a. aan de kaart te stellen in de VN-Veiligheidsraad (met steun van regeringspartijen CDA, D66 en de ChristenUnie) vanwege de mensenrechtenschendingen in Jemen, i.p.v. te zeggen waar het echt om gaat in Jemen: een genocide die sinds 2 jaar ten uitvoer wordt gebracht door de Saoedische terreurcoalitie........... 

Trouwens waar blijft dezelfde Kamer met haar kritiek op Blok voor het verlenen van exportvergunningen naar Saoedi-Arabië t.b.v. onderdelen van wapensystemen, verleningen gedaan door 'gewoon' niet te spreken over wapens in die vergunning, dat is smerige fraude!! (en dat door een Nederlandse minister, waar deze voor vervolgd zou moeten worden!)

Beste bezoeker, het kan nog veel smeriger: in de VS hebben de republikeinen in het huis van afgevaardigden weten te voorkomen dat er een debat over Jemen gevoerd zou worden, door de stemming vast te maken aan een wet om grijze wolven af te kunnen schieten, zodat men kon zeggen dat men stemde voor een wet waarmee grijze wolven kunnen worden vermoord en niet te hoeven spreken over de onpopulaire situatie van de door de Saoediërs geleide oorlog in Jemen, die is uitgemond in een genocide...... (overigens doet de VS de coördinatie voor de bombardementen die de Saoedisch terreurcoalitie uitvoert op internationaal verboden burgerdoelen in Jemen.....)

Hoe is het mogelijk dat men met zulke smerige trucs belangrijke zaken als een genocide van de agenda weet te krijgen, een genocide waar de VS tot over de oren bij betrokken is........ Overigens zal de zaak waarschijnlijk keren als de democraten in het huis van afgevaardigden de meerderheid krijgen, hoewel de steun voor de genocide die S-A uitvoert in Jemen, al dateert uit het 'tijdperk' Obama, je weet wel de valse vredesduif.....

Dat noemt men democratie, waar men bij elke VS verkiezing weer probeert grote groepen (arme) VS burgers de toegang tot het stemlokaal te ontzeggen en waar het geld bepaald wie er wel of geen kandidaat kan zijn (dit nog naast de onofficiële verplichting gelovig te moeten zijn....).......

On Wednesday, in a vote heavily along party lines, the House passed the Manage our Wolves Act 201-187. The vote effectively blocked all debate on the war in Yemen, and precluded that conflict from coming up for a future vote.

This is the second straight year that an attempt to challenge America’s unauthorized involvement in the Yemen War under the War Powers Act has been derailed by House leadership through last minute rule changes. This time, it required tying the rule change to a vote about gray wolves.

This led to a bizarre situation where they were debating the constitutionality of the Yemen War on one side, and the desire to shoot gray wolves on the other side. This was meant to give cover to lawmakers, to say they were voting because of the wolves instead of the unpopular Saudi-led war.

The close vote, and near universal 6-172 vote by House Democrats, may suggest that there will be a shift in a future vote on the Yemen War when the Democrats take over the House next year, though their leadership has been similarly inclined to let the wars go unchallenged in Congress.

De PKK is uiteraard niet zo dom om lijsten aan te maken waar haar leden opstaan, laat staan dat ze die rond zouden laten slingeren, zeker gezien de terreur van de Turkse staat tegen haar partij en de Koerden in het algemeen.....

Weet je nog hoe de reli-fascistische Turkse dictator Erdogan tekeerging, nadat bekend werd dat Khashoggi werd vermoord in het Saoedische consulaat in Istanbul? Dit terwijl hij zelf schijt heeft aan de pers en de gevangenissen van Turkije o.a. gevuld zijn met kritische (echte) journalisten, die daar weg mogen rotten...... Het is duidelijk dat iedere kritiek op de Erdogan dictatuur kan rekenen op zware straffen, zelfs politici zijn niet meer veilig als ze zich kritisch opstellen aangaande Erdogan, waar nu ook zangers/zangeressen op de Turkse verdachtenlijst staan......

Hoe is het mogelijk dat deze Turkse terreurstaat nog steeds deel mag uitmaken van de NAVO?? Ach ja, met het valse voorwendsel een einde te maken aan dictaturen, voert de NAVO o.l.v. de VS, terreur uit in landen waar het niets te zoeken heeft en worden regimes gesteund die overduidelijk dictaturen zijn, dan wel regeringen die zich fascistisch profileren, neem Saoedi-Arabië, Egypte, de Golfstaten, Marokko en Israël......

Neem alleen al het gelul en hysterie over 'fake news' ('nepnieuws'), met het voornemen van de drie eerder genoemde terreurstaten, ook het nieuws te manipuleren, laat men daar zien dat men dit middel al eerder heeft ingezet..... Op zich geen nieuws, immers er zijn voorbeelden te over van liegen door bijvoorbeeld de geheime diensten van de VS, al is het erkennen van deze nieuwsmanipulaties elders, door deze drie staten, wel degelijk nieuws!

Saudi Intelligence Met with Trump Admin and Mossad To Discuss Iran Sabotage and Assassinations

A plan to use private intelligence operatives to sabotage Iran was developed by Trump confidant George Nade and Joel Zamel, an Israeli known for his “deep ties” to Israeli intelligence and security agencies.

WASHINGTON – A new report published in The New York Times has revealed that top Saudi intelligence officials with ties to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), in meetings with figures close to the Trump administration and Israel intelligence, expressed interest in using private contractors to “sabotage the Iranian economy” and to assassinate top Iranian officials.

The plan to use private intelligence operatives to sabotage Iran’s economy had been developed by George Nader, an American-Lebanese businessman close to Trump and the United Arab Emirates (Nederlands: VAE) and a convicted sex offender, and Joel Zamel, an Israeli known for his “deep ties” to Israeli intelligence and security agencies. The plan, at the time of the meeting, did not include the assassination component, though the Saudi officials present sought to probe whether such acts could be included in the campaign.

The Times noted that both Nader and Zamel “saw their Iran plan both as a lucrative source of income and as a way to cripple a country that they and the Saudis considered a profound threat.” The plan was said to involve operations like “revealing hidden global assets of the Quds Force; creating fake social media accounts in Farsi to foment unrest in Iran; financing Iranian opposition groups; and publicizing accusations, real or fictitious, against senior Iranian officials to turn them against one another.” The two met with Saudi officials in early January 2017 in order to secure funding for the plan, which they estimated would cost around $2 billion.

Both Nader and Zamel are now witnesses in the investigation led by Robert Mueller into Trump campaign practices and alleged collusion. It is unclear how Nader and Zamel – who are connected to the United Arab Emirates and Israel, respectively – fit into Mueller’s inquiry, which has been publicized as focusing largely on alleged collusion with the Russian government.

Nader and Zamel had enlisted Erik Prince – the former head of the private military company Blackwater (now Academi) and Trump adviser — in their efforts to secure Saudi financing for their plan. In their discussion with Prince, Nader and Zamel were informed of Prince’s “own paramilitary proposals that he planned to try to sell the Saudis,” though the details of Prince’s proposals are unknown.

However, during the meeting, Saudi intelligence officials were apparently more interested in using private companies to assassinate “Iranian enemies of the kingdom [Saudi Arabia]” than in sabotaging Iran’s economy.  

During the discussion with Nader and Zamel, Saudi Maj. Gen. Ahmed al-Assiri inquired specifically whether the plan could include the assassination of Qassim Suleimani, the leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force, and other senior Iranian officials. Notably, al-Assiri has been named the man allegedly responsible for the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey in early October. Al-Assiri is also known for being a close confidant of MBS, who was deputy crown prince and defense minister at the time of the meeting.

Al-Assiri’s interest in a privatized assassination scheme was met tepidly by Nader and Zamel, who offered to consult their lawyer on the matter. Although their lawyer promptly rejected the idea, Nader, eager to please the Saudi officials whom they were seeking to win over, nevertheless told al-Assiri and the other Saudi officials present that a London-based company run by former British Special Operations troops might consider the contract for such high-profile assassinations. The Times stated that it was unclear which company Nader had suggested.

Though their ambitions to use private contractors to assassinate top Iranian officials did not receive the response they had hoped, Saudi officials reportedly told Nader and Zamel that – while they were interested in the plan – it was so “provocative and potentially destabilizing” that they wanted the approval of the incoming Trump administration before financing the campaign.

Was part of the plan enacted?

Though it is unclear whether the plan drafted by Nader and Zamel was ever enacted, there is some evidence suggesting that aspects of their plan as well as al-Assiri’s separate, privatized assassination plan were ultimately enacted in some form.

For instance, in early June of last year, the CIA created a “new mission center” in Iran that focused on fomenting domestic dissent and gathering intelligence, as well as on “covert action.” That mission center has been headed by CIA officer Michael D’Andrea, a close associate of former CIA Director John Brennan and a convert to Wahhabi Islam. After D’Andrea was appointed to head the center, former CIA case officer Robert Baer told Al Jazeera that “All I can say is that war with Iran is in the cards,” given that D’Andrea’s aggressive anti-Iran approach was well known within the CIA. Notably, the center’s activities fit with aspects of the Nader/Zamel plan aimed at revealing key Iranian government assets through intelligence gathering and covert ops.

Furthermore, the aspect of the Nader/Zamel plan that sought to create fake social media accounts to foment unrest in Iran was ultimately enacted through the creation of an Albania-based “troll farm” of fake anti-Iranian government accounts that was managed by the Iranian terror group MEK. That “troll farm,” according to an Al Jazeera report, had been used by the MEK to orchestrate what appeared to be a wave of support for the group and its anti-regime message toward the end of last year, when Iranians took to the streets to protest adverse economic conditions largely caused by a mixture of domestic legislation and intense pressure by Washington.

As MintPress reported at the time, many of those social media trends had been fueled by fake accounts, or bots, that behaved in an automated fashion and amplified messages through swarm-like behavior such as retweeting, liking, and republishing videos and articles posted alongside hashtags such as #FreeIran and #IranRegimeChange. Many top officials in the Trump administration, including John Bolton and Rudy Giuliani, are close to the MEK and its leader Maryam Rajavi. The MEK has also been supported in the past by Saudi Arabia, Israeli intelligence, and the U.S. military.

In addition to the aspects of the Nader/Zamel plan that appeared to have been implemented, Iran has recently accused “foreign regimes” and U.S. allies in the region, particularly Saudi Arabia, of plotting terror attacks within Iran. For instance, in June of last year, a pair of terror attacks in the Iranian capital of Tehran were blamed on Saudi Arabia by the Iranian government.

In a statement at the time, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps noted:

This terrorist action, coming one week after the meeting of the president of the United States with the leader of one of the region’s reactionary governments (Saudi Arabia) … shows they are involved in this savage action.”

Daesh (ISIS), which Saudi Arabia is known to fund, officially claimed responsibility for the attacks.

More recently, a terror attack in late September targeted an Iranian Veteran’s Day parade in the city of Ahvaz, killing 25 – more than half of whom were civilians. After the attack, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated that “those who give intelligence and propaganda support to these terrorists must answer for it.” Rouhani’s comments were followed by a tweet from Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, who asserted that the attackers were “terrorists recruited, trained, armed and paid by a foreign regime,” but did not elaborate. He blamed regional countries and their “U.S. masters” for the attack, adding that Iran would respond “swiftly and decisively.”

Outsourcing assassination

Furthermore, it seems that some Gulf countries have used private military contractors for assassinations since al-Assiri first suggested the idea in the January 2017 meeting with Nader and Zamel. However, instead of targeting Iranian officials, the tactic has been used in Yemen.

A report published last month by Buzzfeed detailed how Green Beret, Navy SEAL, and CIA paramilitary veterans had been hired by the U.S.-based security company Spear Operations Group to serve as the “private murder squad” for Emirati Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ), assassinating prominent Yemeni clerics and political figures who had run afoul of the crown prince. At the time MBZ’s “private murder squad” was active, Saudi Arabia’s al-Assiri was overseeing intelligence operations in Yemen in coordination with the UAE.

Whether these tactics were influenced by the January 2017 meeting of al-Assiri, Nader and Zamel is unclear. However, the details of the meeting and the recent efforts by the U.S. government and its Middle Eastern allies to foment regime change in Iran clearly show that these governments are willing to use the dirtiest of tactics in order to topple Iran’s government and clear the way for U.S. hegemony in the Middle East and beyond.

In het volgende artikel vertelt Harvey Wasserman over de enorme branden in Californië een goed geschreven verhaal over een vreselijke gebeurtenis, waar intussen volgens de laatste berichten al meer dan 50 mensen het slachtoffer van zijn geworden........ Bosbranden die één op één te maken hebben met de door de mens veroorzaakte snelle opwarming van de aarde. Met deze enorme bosbranden komen er duizenden tonnen CO2 vrij en ook dat doet het klimaat verder opwarmen..... (om maar te zwijgen over de gifstoffen die ook bij bosbranden vrijkomen en de luchtvervuiling verder vergroten >> ook daar spreekt Wasserman over...)

Opperschoft Trump had het gore lef om de bosbouw in Californië de schuld te geven, terwijl de klimaatverandering ervoor heeft gezorgd dat de bossen kurkdroog zijn* en dus bij het minste geringste in brand 'vliegen....' Trump heeft een aantal natuurparken opengesteld voor commerciële activiteiten, waardoor de kans op bosbranden in de toekomst nog verder worden vergroot..... 

Dit alles terwijl Trump de door de mens veroorzaakte klimaatverandering een leugen durft te noemen, zelfs nadat al lang bekend is dat Exxon en Shell uit eigen onderzoek respectievelijk in de 70er en 80er jaren van de vorige eeuw wisten dat de verbranding van fossiele brandstoffen zorgt voor een relatief snelle klimaatverandering....... Deze georganiseerde misdadigers van de oliemaffia stopten deze rapporten diep weg in een kluis, waarna ze 'klimaatsceptische' wetenschappers inhuurden, die e.e.a. ontkenden...... (de top van die bedrijven zou moeten worden vervolgd door het Internationaal Strafhof [ICC] in Den Haag!!)

Wasserman spreekt ook over de ramp met de kerncentrales in het Japanse Fukushima, waar men voor de kust van Californië een paar jaar geleden al tonijn ving die fiks was besmet met radioactiviteit (en niet geschikt was voor consumptie), radioactiviteit die te herleiden was naar de Fukushima rampencentrales...... Terecht stelt Wasserman nog eens dat de ramp in Fuskushima in feite voortduurt, dagelijks nog stromen daar grote hoeveelheden zwaar radioactief besmet water in de oceaan....... 

Californië zelf heeft overigens nog 2 stokoude centrales in Diablo Canyon (toepasselijke naam), centrales die een enorme ramp kunnen veroorzaken bij een zware aardbeving en dat bijna op de San Andreasbreuk (-lijn)....... Eén van de vele feiten die pleiten tegen kernenergie is het feit dat er geen verzekeringsmaatschappij is die een (nieuwe) kerncentrale wil verzekeren, me dunkt een teken aan de wand......

Voorts haalt Wasserman ook de laatste schietpartijen in de VS aan (dagelijks worden er in de VS meerdere mensen vermoord met vuurwapens, echter alleen de meest 'sensationele schietpartijen' komen in het nieuws). Kortom Wasserman wijst op alle gevaren waaraan VS burgers dagelijks bloot staan.

Fifty years ago, in my twenties, I often hitchhiked the Pacific Coast Highway through Southern California. I slept on pristine beaches, swam in the ocean, and spent endless hours watching seals and dolphins ride the waves just a few yards offshore.

A favorite spot was in Santa Monica, where Sunset Boulevard meets the sea at Will Rogers State Park. This gorgeous stretch of white sand, framed by the Santa Monica pier to the south and the Malibu Hills to the north, seemed like paradise.

Today, fulfilling a lifelong dream, I live in the San Fernando Valley, a forty-minute drive from the Pacific, half of which is through beautiful Topanga Canyon.

This past Friday, I set off for my weekly bike ride along the beach. As usual, I parked at Will Rogers and rode my bike south down the concrete path about six miles to the Venice Pier. The final stretch, through Venice Beach, featured a constant cloud of the cannabis smoke that now flows free and easy in the land of legal pot.

At the end of a peaceful afternoon, I rode north back up to Will Rogers (always into the wind) to watch the sunset and take a dip in the ocean, which was, as expected this time of year, warmer than the air.

But this evening there was something else—an unwelcome terror. Over the ridge, in Malibu and Calabasas, fires were raging, engulfing the entire range of hills and valleys to the north in smoke. The flames were clearly visible as I rode along, all too aware that at that moment, fellow humans were dying, homes and livelihoods were being consumed, and for many people not much different from me, the world was ending.

Earlier in the week, in nearby Thousand Oaks, yet another crazed gunman shot up yet another bar, killing eleven people. Some of the victims were survivors of the Las Vegas shooting a year ago, where more than fifty people died. Now they died here.

I thought about the ocean waves, once so pure, now laced with unseen traces of Fukushima. The March 11, 2011, earthquake there caused three meltdowns and four hydrogen explosions that blew radiation into the air and water far in excess of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The three melted cores still seeth underground. A constant flow of liquid carries untold isotopes into the Pacific as Tokyo Electric has failed for nearly a decade to permanently cool them.

That witches brew of some of the world’s most lethal substances has long since arrived here. Years ago tuna caught off the coast of California were found to be carrying significant doses of identifiable Fukushima contaminants.

I swim anyway. I don’t know how much radiation is in those waves. But it’s there, as are the twin nuclear reactors just four hours drive north at Diablo Canyon near San Luis Obispo. Thousands of us have been arrested protesting those reactors, capable of making this entire region a dead zone, especially once hit by the “Big One” earthquake we all know will eventually come.

The awful glow of the deadly fires shine through massive clouds of soot and smoke. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen, a hellish reality in a paradise I once took for granted.

The following afternoon, I find solace in a few blessed hours with my darling grandchildren, playing in an idyllic suburban backyard under pristine blue skies.

And then it arrives. The soot and smoke of the Woolsey fire smacks us in the face. The flames have already torn through Santa Susana, a toxic wasteland whose lethal pollutants—including radioactive isotopes from ten small reactors—may be pouring over Los Angeles. At least twenty-five people have already died in the inferno, several of them roasted to death in their cars, caught by the rapidly moving flames. Many more are still missing.

Fallout from the fires cover us with a filthy, acrid fallout.

Only fate has thus far protected me and my family from the poisonous contamination and the killings—the sudden death that seems poised to strike at random anywhere we live, work, and play. In today’s America, random mass murder has merged with ecological devastation.

There is much we can do about both of these sources of terror. Meaningful gun control. Limiting fossil fuel and nuclear emissions. Finally switching totally to renewable energy.

But the path to security is narrowing. Breathe the air, look at your kids, think about being in a crowded public room, and know that the need for meaningful, powerful, and effective citizen action is more immediate than ever.

De republikeinse senator Chuck Grassley heeft al eerder gevraagd om openbaarmaking van de stukken, die uiteraard niets bevatten wat geheim moet worden gehouden, maar die wel aangeven dat de 2 vervolgd moeten worden en gevangen moeten worden gezet.... Aanvankelijk lukte het niet om deze documenten vrij te krijgen in de laatste 2 jaar van de Obama administratie, maar nadat de mensen van Obama waren vervangen door republikeinen, lukte het wel deze documenten boven tafel te krijgen.

De spionage bestond er uit dat men de commissies die de inlichtingendiensten controleren in de senaat hackte om zo achter de namen van eventuele klokkenluiders te kunnen komen, ofwel men heeft ingebroken op het email systeem van de senaat.........

Zo zie je ten overvloede nog eens hoe corrumperend en criminaliserend het werk van geheime diensten als de CIA in werkelijkheid is en dat de macht die deze diensten hebben, totaal onterecht is.....

Het voorgaande geldt ook voor ons land, met het hijgerig wijzen op islam terroristen krijgen de geheime diensten steeds meer macht en middelen, terwijl men een echte aanslag niet eens weet te voorkomen, zelfs niet als men één of meerdere daders in het vizier had........ Daarover gesproken: enige tijd geleden werden een aantal mannen opgepakt in Nederland voor het beramen van een aanslag, het was echter snel na dit bericht stil en ben benieuwd hoe het er met die zaak voor staat....... Immers eerder werden dergelijke zaken met veel tamtam gebracht, waar later bleek dat men een bok had geschoten en verdachten vrijgelaten moesten worden..... Het geval met de Russen die het OPCW gebouw zouden hebben willen hacken, is van een zo ongeloofwaardig niveau dat ik er niet eens op in ga.........

James Clapper and John Brennan Should Not Escape Prosecution

Recently declassified documents show that the former CIA director and former director of national intelligence approved illegal spying on Congress and then classified their crime. They need to face punishment, writes John Kiriakou.

(CN Opinion) — Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa made a dramatic announcement this month that almost nobody in America paid any attention to. Grassley released a statement saying that four years ago, he asked the Intelligence Community Inspector General to release two “Congressional Notifications” written by former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

Grassley had had his requests to declassify the documents ignored repeatedly throughout the last two years of the Obama administration. He decided to try again because all of the Obama people at the CIA and DNI are gone now. This time, his request was approved.

So what was the information that was finally declassified? It was written confirmation that John Brennan ordered CIA hackers to intercept the emails of all potential or possible intelligence community whistleblowers who may have been trying to contact the Congressional oversight committees, specifically to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Simply put, Brennan ordered his people to hack into the Senate email system—again. Grassley is the longtime chairman of Judiciary Committee, and he was understandably appalled.

First, let me explain what a Congressional Notification is. The CIA is required by law to inform the Congressional oversight committees whenever one of its officers, agents, or administrators breaks the law, when an operation requires Congressional approval because it is a “covert action” program, or whenever something happens at the CIA that’s potentially controversial and the Agency wants to save itself the embarrassment of explaining itself to Congress later.

Brennan apparently ordered his officers to spy on the Senate. Remember, back in 2014 his officers spied on Intelligence Community investigators while they were writing the Senate Torture Report. This time, he decided to inform Congress.

But Brennan and Clapper classified the notification. It was like a taunt. “Sure, I’m spying on Congress, which is illegal. But it’s classified, so what are you going to do about it?”

Grassley went through the proper channels. And even though Brennan and Clapper essentially gave him the middle finger, he didn’t say anything until the documents were finally declassified. He’s a bigger man than I.

I think Grassley missed an opportunity here, though.

First, it’s my own opinion that John Brennan belongs in prison. He has flouted U.S. national security laws with impunity for years. That’s unacceptable. In these declassified notifications, he’s confessing to hacking into the Senate’s computer system. That’s a violation of a whole host of laws, from illegal use of a government computer to wire fraud to espionage. There ought to be a price to pay for it, especially in light of the fact that Brennan was the leading force behind the prosecutions of eight national security whistleblowers during the Obama administration, almost three times the number of whistleblowers charged under the Espionage Act by all previous presidents combined.

Second, it’s a crime, a felony, to overclassify government information. Most Americans have no idea that that’s the case. Of course, nobody has ever been charged with it. But it’s a serious problem, and it’s antithetical to transparency.  The CIA Inspector General said of the notifications, “I could see no reason to withhold declassification of these documents. They contained no information that could be construed as sources and methods.” That’s an admission that the notifications were improperly classified in the first place.

Grassley added, “There is a strong public interest in (the notifications’s) content.  I do not believe they need to be classified at all, and they should be released in their entirety.”

Grassley went so far as to call out Brennan and Clapper by name. “What sources or methods would be jeopardized by the declassification of these notifications? After four-and-a-half years of bureaucratic foot-dragging, led by Brennan and Clapper, we finally have the answer: None.”

So why weren’t they declassified four years ago? Remember, it’s illegal to classify a crime. And it’s illegal to classify something solely for the purpose of preventing embarrassment to the CIA. Yet those were the very reasons for classifying the documents in the first place. It was because Brennan and Clapper think they’re somehow special cases. (Recall that it was Clapper who lied directly to the Senate Intelligence Committee about intercepting the communications of American citizens. He also did that with impunity.)

Brennan and Clapper think the law doesn’t apply to them. But it does. Without the rule of law, we have chaos in our country. The law has to apply equally to all Americans. Brennan and Clapper need to learn that lesson the hard way. They broke the law. They ought to be prosecuted for it.

John Kiriakou is a former CIA counterterrorism officer and a former senior investigator with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. John became the sixth whistleblower indicted by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act—a law designed to punish spies. He served 23 months in prison as a result of his attempts to oppose the Bush administration’s torture program.

Deze juwelen behoren tot het Franse volk en zouden niet mogen worden geveild..... Uiteraard zal de Franse regering hier geen woord aan vuil maken, immers dan zou het meteen de enorme hoeveelheid gestolen historische kunstwerken terug moeten geven aan de landen waar deze door Frankrijk werden geroofd.......
